Super cool spot. Upon arriving, I had no clue where the entrance was. It was only when people came out of the building that I realized that was the entrance. Once inside, I was left in awe of the magnitude of the place. A huge old warehouse transformed into a book “store”? Absolutely amazing. REMEMBER, you put the price in the books, not the other way around. When I was here, the cashier tried to give me a price when it shouldn't be like that. Don't feel intimidated and pay whatever you think is fair. There’s also a Spanish section right by the entrance.

This is an amazingly genial place for people who love books and learning. There are walls full of stacks of books, all at amazing prices. The staff is very generous and friendly. Prices are extremely reasonable! While there may be a bit of a challenge to find parking, it's located in an easy-to-access neighborhood, though you may need to use your GPS if you are unfamiliar with Pilsen.

Open books is a huge warehouse that has a neverending input of books in good shape overall (there's plenty of books full of scribbles though) and the cheapest prices you can find in the neighborhood. You're guaranteed to spend at least an hour checking out their displays, you never know what you may find among their shelves which is part of the thrill of visiting in the first place.

Open Books is always a strange bookstore experience perhaps because it's a nonprofit organization and this Pilsen location is especially so, being in an old warehouse, however the fact that their prices have now become " pay what you can" is a welcome development as I've always found their prices a bit high. And as its a good cause, it's a good place to shop for books.

Just the shear joy of what makes a bookstore great these days: books in abundance. No frills experience. Just be thankful there is a place to tangibly exist within without the point and click option of online ordering (been there done that). Will be my go to weekend outing for a good paper or hardback. Tons of kids options too. ✌

Super-cheap ($3 for a hardbound), great selection, but pretty disorganized. I considered giving them 4-stars because of said disorganization, but remembered that the folks in charge are running this awesome used book shop not for profit but to benefit reading programs for Chicago's youth. A fantastic resource.

They have a very nice selection for kids and there only a dollar for the kids books!!!!. They also have lots of book for a adults with a nice section for spanish reads. The prices range for 1 to 4 dollars you can't beat that and if your like me and never have cash they do take card …

This is their warehouse but is open to the public. Friendly staff and a broad selection of books. We visited for a sale, and I'm uncertain how organized the books are usually, but you had to go through random piles loosely catagorized books. Not a big issue, but takes more time.

Stop by and browse the store -- Children's books are FREE at the warehouse location for this nonprofit used bookstore! Are you a teacher or part of a nonprofit organization that could use adult or children's books? Ask them about book grants! Are you a book lover? Volunteer!

This place is amazing. You can donate literally any book, even textbooks and study guides. They have a selection larger than a library! All children's books are free. All other books are $4 each. And they even have vinyl! Very pleasant atmosphere. Open 7 days a week.

I love this place!!! The store is always ready to receive unwanted, outdated, gently worn textbooks, novels, children's and reference books, too! All school districts and lovers of books should use this place. Instead of throwing books away....give them new life!

I love this bookstore - I bought 8 big books for $34. I donate here frequently and you should to. They have amazing city literacy programs for kids. And a surprisingly huge selection, just go up to the front and tell them what you're looking for.

A cool retail warehouse of books with a name your own price policy and free kids books. What else can you say. Definitely worth checking out for anyone who loves to read. Staff was friendly and into books which is what you want from a bookstore.

I really loved the place. My goodness there are lots of books there! It would have been nice to have seen better signs up to direct people to different sections. Maybe bigger and brighter signs, but other than that, free books for children!

A warehouse of books at cheap prices. If you're looking to get a classic book for just $4 this is the place to go. You may not find the more recently popular books here. They will probably be at the other Open Books location in West Loop.

This organization seems wonderful and they're providing a good service for the community. I inherited many, many books...so many, that it was difficult to find a place to donate them. I ended up donating 60 boxes of high quality

The books are quality and the store was well organized. I quite enjoyed the entire selection. The store was well spaced and you honestly can't beat the prices. You may not find what you want but you'll find what you need.

Support this amazing non profit. They give free books to children and have a “pay what you can” policy. If you are able, always pay full price (which is very cheap anyway) so this gem of a book place stays viable.

Huge bookstore with multiple selections of reads. Kids books are free from what I saw in my experience and not too sure about the other ones but they have a big collection here that you can peruse through.

Huge space of amazing and cheap books & vinyl records, where proceeds go to the best cause- children's literacy! They have some great events including kids story time. Also dog friendly to good dogs.

Great selection of books for bilingual readers. You also use to have story time in spanish which my little one love so much, hope it comes back soon again. Also different activities for the kiddos.

We went to drop off 5 boxes of books. We backed up to the garage door, they opened it, and helped me carry on the boxes. It went very quickly, the people were very nice.
