I've been with this teaching institution for 22 years and most of my doctors are located here. Individually, some departments are better than others in terms of customer service. They tend to be a lot less selective about the people they're hiring now due to the fact that so many people are resistant to returning to the workforce in person and demanding to work from home with higher pay. They've hired a lot of really young schedulers who lack customer service skill, or compassion and patience for older or unwell patients. This can make it difficult or frustrating to even get scheduled and I have often experienced hang ups or disconnects in the process. In my experience it can take weeks to get a return call from some departments such as the sleep clinic. As a result of lowered customer care standards, you may get some arrogance or rudeness when trying to schedule with certain departments. In addition, the level of care has gone down and it takes months to be seen by departments such as Cardiology and the Sleep Disorders clinic. Another change is the fact that if you need to see a specialist such as an actual Cardiologist, you will see a physicians assistant first followed up with an extremely short 3 to 5 minutes maximum with the actual Cardiologist.. which will take you 3 to 6 months to get into, depending on who you see. Staffing is an issue here and has been steadily declining for quite some time even though we have been on the tail end of COVID now for quite a while. It seems that covid has become a convenient excuse for continuing to remain short staffed and it doesn't appear to be improving. The ER is frequently diverting patients to other area hospitals so if all your physicians are at OHSU and you need emergency care, good luck. You have a good chance of being diverted to Good Samaritan, Providence or Legacy Emmanuel in NE Portland, among others, due to continued short staffing in the Emergency Department...and most other departments as well. The last few times I've had to be in for cardiac issues, patients on gurneys often line the hallway with little to no privacy while waiting for a room to open up. Consequently, the level of customer service and care has really gone down and it doesn't look like it will be improving anytime soon. Having said all that, their OHSU Richmond clinic out on SE 39th and Division does a fine job serving clinic patients. So if you are looking for a general physician you can try that OHSU affiliated clinic and you should receive quality customer care and service with a plethora of physicians to choose from and they also have an internal pharmacy at this location.

I worked for OHSU for 3 years. OHSU is a hospital that has many silos and upper management refuses to bust down those barriers. When I say upper management, I mean executives who have the power to enforce change. The union (ASCME) that supports the workers within OHSU are not leaders. I find this to be the issue across the board, too many followers and not enough leaders. I can guarantee that if someone truly whistle blows and show how their employees are treated, they would lose a lot a business. Don't be fooled that everything is going good. Because you see an adobe stock image of some happy people on a brochure, doesn't mean everything is peachy. CHH 2 would not get those beds filled! In defense for some managers they are overworked and stretched very far. Doctors are stretched as well and you can tell how the appointments are stacked. Let alone it is a cluster f*** on the hill and they charge some of the hardest working citizens a whole body for parking. I think it is like 15 bucks a day! I worked in logistics so I was constantly in and out of units so I seen and heard everything. Employees are very, very, very unhappy! Of course if asked on the spot, employees tremble with fear because they fear they might lose their job. You feel and see the classism everyday. Hard work should be rewarded in ways that keep your workforce motivated. Motivation will never happen if you have finance guys sit behind a desk and just say "we don't have the budget". That is a famous line that you will hear. My department wouldn't even order a mouse pad. On top of that we would bust our butts to put away medical supplies and they gave us chairs from the trash to sit on during our break. Oh, I'm sorry surplus. On a good note, I love my family medicine Doctor! All in all if you won't to work for OHSU, get your money, help a few patients and get the heck out of there. There are some places that will trample your soul in the dirt and this is just one of those places! Oh yeah don't let them full you with this diversity crap either. As an African American male it is hard to move-up.

WARNING- MENTION A PROMPT PAY DISCOUNT WHEN YOU PAY. DO NOT PAY ONLINE! My wife cut her finger cooking and needed stitches. We went to OHSU because they were the closest hospital. We had to wait over 2 hours to be seen. She was in pain but the nurses wouldn't give us an estimate of when the doctor would be there or do anything to comfort her. When we eventually did see a doctor they didn't stitch her hand correctly and it had to be redone. We ended up being at OHSU for close to 4 hours for a procedure that should have taken 20 minutes. We have health insurance through my work, but we got her bills in the mail and they were much more than we were expecting and our insurance was useless. When I called to explain how unreasonable the charges were, they said there was nothing they could do. She then went to see her new family doctor to establish a baseline of care at their family clinic, and they charged us another $200 for a visit which should have been covered under preventative care. When I called in to pay for that bill and explain my frustration with their system, I was told that I should have just asked for a prompt pay discount. If you pay your balance in full, you get 15% off but only if you call in and specifically request it. If you are having an emergency and need a hospital to go to that will give you prompt attention at a reasonable rate, keep looking. If you are stuck with an outrageous bill from OHSU despite having insurance, DO NOT pay on their website and don't pay the person who first picks up the phone. Ask to be transferred to the billing department and request the prompt pay discount. They won't tell you about it otherwise. I got 15% off for my smaller bill (that should have been covered by preventative care) but nothing for my large emergency room bill because they are much more concerned with profits than they are with patients.

The care I had by DR. Hills was great and he always responded to my messages I emailed him which was very helpful. What was not helpful was the staff who ran the front office. I have IIH that cause severe headaches and blindness if not treated. I started heavy doses of medication and had a lumbar puncture last year, I moved states and needed to get on OHP which was taking months! I am now 17 weeks pregnant and heard of the side effects of the medication for my baby so I haven't been taking any medication for over 4 months. I had to cancel one appointment and missed the next one because I could get approved on OHP and I couldn't afford to pay up front, I finally got approved today but when I called, they said I could not longer schedule any appoints because of the ones I had missed. Finding a Neuro-ophthalmologist isn't easy and it will take them months to get me in. Meanwhile my headaches are awful, my vision is getting worse every day and I am worried about the effects that is having on my baby. Its frustrating that they are not understanding of the OHP situation and the countless hours I spent on hold trying to get through to someone. To deny care to someone who has been trying and desperately needs some help is very heartbreaking, even when I was crying to them asking them if there was any way I could still come since my insurance would be backdated the first time I had to cancel and they offered no support or compassion. Of all the great things I thought of OHSU, this has changed my mind on so many. Its not like I didn't care and just didn't come, I was trying everything I could to get there and make it happen and it just makes me sick.

This review is for the 5th floor, internal medicine, with Dr. Evans being one of the resident doctors. Review on Dr. Evans himself: warm, friendly, relatively thorough, and informed. Overall two thumbs up on him. The actual practice on the other hand and OHSU's billing department: TERRIBLE. As I learned through my insurance company, OHSU charges premium prices for the work it does on its patients. I got some lab work done that cost an astronomical cost when the bill came in. Part of the reason why it was so high was that my insurance is so-so. But the other part is that they charge FAR above the smaller practices in the city. Then after learning of the ridiculous cost of the lab work, I put myself on a payment plan and was told that the first charge was going to kick in mid-June, basically about a month from now. Guess what? 3 days later I see the first charge on my bank account. I called their billing department who told me there was nothing they could do. That they couldn't refund the money, even though we explicitly came to the agreement of not having the first bill until a month after I had called in. Ridiculous. I told the agent I spoke to to adjust the plan so I was no longer on automatic billing and I would simply call in or pay per month online. I had to get going and asked her to please call me back and confirm the changes would be done. She said she would do it. Guess what? NO PHONE CALL BACK. Terrible, absolutely terrible. I am currently in the process of finding a new doctor. NEVER AGAIN will I see anyone from OHSU unless I have absolutely no other option.

after 5+ hours the ER person.doc talked to an 80+ year old man like he was another doctor. talked way to fast as the man was waiting for so long he fell asleep and was not all there.... mentally. Then after having him drop his pants to see the catheter the doc opened the door. DOESNT OHSU HAVE PRIVACY FOR PATIENTS.? I stated to the doctor either pull up his pants or close the door! I ended up closing the door. this young Doctor was in to much of a hurry to get out it was bulls***. made my father feel like crap for even coming in. In the last 60 days my dad has been in and out of OHSU hospital and and was near death on 2 occations, as well as major BP issues. Also the ecoli my dad got was from OHSU. this nearly killed him. People need to slow down, actually listen every once in a while, and dont start thinking of an answer while your patient is talking. Then i had to interupt a bull crap Session with the nurses, when i asked for the IV to get taken out of his are so we could leave. Then one wanted to then come in the room and do a make shift check up on my father. Where was she an hour earlier when we were sleeping in the room? why? the doc did already.... somewhat. what was her look going to do? what a waste of time. I am retired military, and wasnt treated in this manner in my 22 years. Do no harm, listen, help..... care I was a director of a counseling center, people you need to learn from this. caring is a basic Fundamental of the J.O.B. before this 6 hours of hell, it was nearly 5 stars, and many of your staff are in fact excellent Roger

Absolutely the worst patient service I have ever experienced. I was a patient at OHSU and have gone through seven surgeries and over forty office visits. Almost all the staff, doctors, nurses, etc were absolutely great. Except for one, he not only mislead us, we were lied to and threatened by this doctor. Now I am in a pain management program and will be on opioids for the rest of my life. Plus we owe OHSU for co-payments and a nerve generator that never worked and was removed. Unfortunately we found out that if everything goes well, it is a great establishment. If not don't waste your time trying to reach an agreement. You will go through their "Patient Relations Department", and then if any money is involved then it is turned over to their "Risk Department" . As this turns out, not knowing the legal process, I was mislead by them. OHSU is well aware of the legal aspects involved in these cases. The only thing they seemed concerned with is how much will it cost them! Not once did they offer to reduce or refund any charges. They didn't even offer to send me to their pain management program. If you have a problem don't contact them call a lawyer! I could go on for quite some time with everything that went wrong. If you doubt anything in this posting please google, OHSU law suits, and read some of issues. I wish that posting this negative review wasn't necessary but for now it is my only option. Nobody at OHSU will step up and resolve my issues.

I wish I could put negative a million stars. My father died here April 5th, 2017 at the age of 56. The hospital admitted him as the wrong patient when he arrived unconscious. By the time I arrived after driving 10 hours he was in a full blown coma and was being treated as the wrong patient. My dad remained in the ICU until I finally got them to stop "teaching" their students with his sick dying body. Aside from a few beyond outstanding loving and caring Employees this hospital is untrustworthy, unprofessional, and dangerous. I would never willingly take anyone I care about to this hospital. They made mistakes that can never be erased. After telling them repeatedly that I did not want lifesaving measures knowing my father's wishes and his prognosis I was judged and questioned for not wanting the students to practice techniques on him any longer. They refused to discharge and readmitt him as the correct patient. They had already mixed my dad's new information in with the wrong patient's medical records. My dad couldn't even die with dignity and respect. If you're ever in the position I was at 22 years old with little guidance or assistance from the hospital ask for the palliative team. They're supposed to offer it but never did. Apparently they're supposed to be helpful. Miss you Dad. Wish you didn't have to die in such a terrible place.

Do not work within Medical Affairs/Credentialing Department if you value your sanity! I worked at OHSU for almost three years. The first year was fine, but then a new manager took over. Mirjana has no clue how to run an office. She has no credentialing experience and has even told the office she does not care about our jobs and does not wish to even learn what we do. She has screamed at employees in front of the entire office for no reason other than she was having a bad day. She has made sexual comments to employees about breast sizes and them needing to be more sexually active so they wouldn't be so depressed. This is not how a manager should be speaking to employees. Denal, the supervisor is a terror and is Mirjana's lacky. The two of them together is a complete nightmare. Over 8 employees have either left on their own or have been forced out because they will not play their childish games. The union will not help you, because they say it is hearsay and HR will immediately side with management and try to find a way to fire you so they will not have to deal with you anymore. I left on my own accord due to the horrible work environment. DO NOT WORK WITHIN MEDICAL AFFAIRS IF MIRJANA AND DENAL ARE STILL THERE. You have been warned.

Possibly some of the worst health care I have EVER experienced . I dropped my mother off at the OHSU Emergency Room because she was having side pains. 7 hours and some odd minutes later she was told it was probably a torn muscle and to take some Motrin. Even though this completely contraindicates her current medical condition. My mother has liver disease so the idiot doctor wrote her a prescription ibuprofen prescription. I'm not a doctor but even I know this is malpractice. Liver disease patients are not supposed to take NSAIDS or ibuprofen period! Aside from having to wait 7+ hours for the doctor to tell her that she "may" have torn a muscles and write her a dangerous prescription the experience was great! I don't care how busy your ER is, if it takes you 7 hours to see your patients there's something wrong. My mother was sick and fatigued, so they made her sit around for 7 hours to see a doctor. Their excuse, "we have a shift change". Pathetic! I can only wonder how these doctors would feel if their family members had received this sort of "health care". Coming from an institution which is billed as one of Portland's most "prestigious" I had to laugh at this assertion. Health care is more than a label and a degree, idiots!

Apparently the spleen expert is in this hospital or was here at ohsu years ago when I was hospitalized with a grade 1 ruptured spleen. They did tests and tests and "ruled out" physical trauma. And they asked me if I wanted to remove it!!??? Even though they couldn't prove what caused it. I did have trauma to my abdomen 3 weeks prior but they wouldn't take that into consideration. Here I am 7 years later and never had any issues again. And imagine having removed my spleen and risking every infection and disease (hello covid) for the rest of my life if I had said yes. This isn't a jab at this particular hospital because I loved the nurses in the ICU Because all of the medical community is a joke, they're not 100% certain on everything, but yet risk your life even though many more risks may come of it. By the way. They wasted so much time suspecting I was being physically abused by my fiance that I feel they didn't try to move past that and look for more answers. And that (physical abuse) has never happened to me in a relationship and especially not with my now husband. And I was hit in the abdomen and my nephew's birthday party when we were all playing ball. I don't even think my husband was there that day. ✌️

I had to bring my brother in law for surgery!! We live in Eugene, but they have an amazing hospital!! Very nice!! When you get there there's free parking to the right on Pavillion loop!! If you drive up the hill coming in by the backside.. It's such an amazing comfortable setting. They have waiting rooms with lit flames and chairs set around both sides of the fire!! It's sharp looking and looks super clean. I fell in love with the amazing artwork!! The staff was very nice at the front desk but when I dropped off my brother in law and walked him to his room at 5:00 a.m. I felt like his nurse was all business and a jerk!! I understand people have bad moods but as I professional myself I don't ever treat my customers that way. My brother in law was extremely worried and stressed and I would've liked to see the male nurse take a second to acknowledge my bro in laws stress and actual eye contact would've been nice to see!! He was there overnight and they did take great care of him!! That was just one jerk on the 6th floor!! Anyway it was an exciting place to go. I was excited when I saw Shriners hospital right next to this hospital!!

The doctors at OHSU are wonderful, and proficient. Their billing department is criminal. 2 years ago my wife had some procedures that were fully covered and verified by my insurance. OHSU charged me up front for everything. My insurance paid them immediately, but it took me 5 months after that to get my money back. Right now I’m in the middle of another billing issue with OHSU. Last year my wife had a series of treatments my insurance covered, but not fully. I got a third party loan to cover any overages. The last treatment was in November, and OHSU is still causing issues 6 months later. My insurance has verified OHSU has been paid and everything is fine. OHSU is saying I don’t owe anything, but they are charging another $600 to my loan ( that I have to pay ). According to my insurance, they have already paid OHSU for that, and all they are allowed to charge me is $40. I just got my insurance to realize today they are being defrauded along with me. If you have any option at all, go to a different hospital. A few hours drive a few times would have been far preferable to the months and months of phone tag, and delays.

Fantastic treatment, if you have good insurance. Prepare yourself for "conservative medicine" if you don't have the financial backing to be an appealing patient. My mother visited repeatedly, suffering from abdominal pain. A CAT scan would have show immediately that her appendix was ruptured, but it took three visits before an intern (not a doctor) managed to get the tests performed and diagnose her properly. She was hospitalized for 8 days before they agreed to perform surgery. I overheard a doctor (names omitted to protect the rat bastards) saying that they needed to get her out; she was costing the hospital money. I stayed with her as long as I could. Two hours after my flight left, they sent a 71 year old woman home alone, in a cab. Policy wouldn't allow them to do so if the drainage tube was still in place, so they pulled it out. They decided she didn't need a walker, she'd had a whole 36 hours to recover. I'm sure that OHSU has helped many people in the Portland community (and they have some terrific nurses), but I will never forget my experience, nor forgive the callous treatment shown to my family.

My experience at OHSU was, in a word: Bizarre. I've never seen such a case of a doctor being completely oblivious to what their patient is relating to them. Don't know if it's a case of initiation into the 'getting medical treatment while economically shaky ' club or not, but I can definitely say I was never treated this way when using golden sparkly medical insurance. There are things that were written on my medical chart that I never said. I pointed out these inaccuracies in response in email, but they weren't acknowledged with any sort of relevancy. These things were written as a result of a doctor who clearly wasn't listening to and/or acknowledging most of what was being said to him. It really blew me away, that there could be such a place. They don't seem to know of a world outside of their own existence, and refuse to believe there even is one. Thankfully, there is an opportunity to return to my prior doctor, who was most caring, wrote doctor visit notes that pertained to actual doctor visits, and treated people with dignity and respect. So glad of that. So, so glad!

Never had 1 single issue @ this hospital. Its where my gpa Herb Stepper successfully had his heart transplant although he was given 6mo. To live prior. Due to a triple bi-pass surgery and other complications. This man just wouldnt quit. He poured his heart out to everyone and was getting involved with the oregon donor program. Getting people to sign up as donors. Since theirs a mass shortage of donors! Then herb finds out he has cancer and ends up fighting for his life again thru chemo & radiation treatments only chased the cancer around into more invasive areas until finally he passed after fighting for his life for 14+yrs after the docs gave him 6mo. To live. He was my father figure as i had no father he raised me well but after he died in november 2005 I died and ill never be the same again. Maybe i can help like he did. Im an organ donor because of him. Can i do more to help? Will i find worth in myself again?

The billing is ridiculous. I went to the ER in Jan and received my bill in Feb. I paid what I owed. Now 4 months later I'm looking at my account and it says I'm past due 120 days from that visit. I call and try to talk to someone and they tell me oh that first bill was just the doctor's fees. This bill is for everything else. Maybe someone could have mentioned that? Obviously I assume the bill I get in Feb is the entire amount. Not only that but they say they are still talking to my insurance and it might actually be over twice the amount listed! My ER experience wasn't exactly amazing either. After waiting nearly 3 hrs to be seen, I was put in a room and left alone for over 1.5 hrs while I writhed in pain and all the nurse could do was give me a blanket until the doctor saw me. I'm cancelling my appointments there and changing insurance. Providence has it's own issues but it's way better than this factory.

  • Chris Waine

After waiting half a day for a morning appointment I finally saw a neurologist. How exactly do you explain that, especially since I traveled clear from Hermiston, Oregon. I explained what could only identified as nerve pain. In short the Neurologist told me that I imagine the pain to be worse then it really is since I had a traumatic brain injury. Wrong! I asked for an MRI and the neurologist proclaimed that insurance would never pay for it because it's not justified. The only criteria for an MRI is if I was a surgical candidate and I'm not. Flash forward MRI ordered from my pain center Dr. shows I have a disk herniation in my thoracic spine that is compressing my spinal cord and venous plexus. Ya all in my mind, because chronic pain is not enough for an MRI and yes insurance paid for it. I will never forget how poorly I was treated at OHSU. I have never said this about a Dr. but what a quack.

  • Alesha Jans

My team of doctors we're very understanding and accommodaing to my bloodless surgery request. They talked as a team together and with me about options in case something went wrong. The team really sat down and worked with me and my family with our concerns. The hospital itself is very large, can easily get lost, but very clean and beautiful artwork brings smiles to your face around every corner. The nursing staff were kind, sensitive and helpful. Love the doctors bedside manners, even though it took a little getting used to an entire team of people surrounding me during morning rounds. The private room was cozy and roomy for my large family and friends who visited. Food service was really my only disappoinment. Menu was hard for me to find something with my food sensitivities and when ordered it took an hour to receive the food every time and the food was cold every time.

I've been bouncing from one elitest, arrogant, OHSU "Doctor" to the next for years. Despite a select few (Otolaryngology and Rheumatology are exceptional Dr's), they're all too full of themselves or unwilling to listen, to actually help me. If a patient is ill, without any easy diagnosis, it is either the patients fault, the doctor's fault, or the systems fault. It is easier to dismiss or blame the patient than to admit fault for OHSU and most of their staff. I hate OHSU. An unsupervised resident botched my femoral nerve block during a surgery, they watched me lose 60lbs of mostly muscle in a matter of months dismissing all of my attempts at communicating that I am/was getting ill, they refuse to put the time and effort in that it will take to diagnose somebody without a textbook illness. Overall they have caused me more harm then good.

This review is in regards to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery center. After being referred here by my denntist. My tongue was numb due to the removal of a mucocele on the bottom of my tongue. After several months with a numb tongue, they decide they can do nothing. I then got another mucocele on the inside of my lip. The Surgeon insisted there was no way removing it, would cause my lip to be numb. He lied, 3 months later, my lip is still numb. I tried to make an appointment with them to see if they could tell me what to do, but the receptionist said the surgeon would have to let them know when to could schedule me to come in. Well, every time I called the receptionist she would say the same thing and they would not let me make an appointment without him getting back to them. Which he never did.

It makes me sad seeing all the one star reviews on the ER. (this is long due) September 2014, I was in the ER for 3 days. Every day I had such an amazing team helping me get better. Not once did i feel scared... Okay maybe once... I had the football game on and the student nurse was doing a spinal tap while watching the game, after being told i had to lay really still or I could be paralyzed it wasn't easy watching the student stick a large needle into my back while he watched the game. Other than that the nurses and doctors who helped me all the way to a full recovery where AMAZING! My nurses even gave me my seizure medication twice a day, my night nurses gave me medication that would help with the pain while also helping me sleep through the night. Best hospital I have ever been too.

My experience to use OHSU emergency room in last year was just awful! My wife had a strong depression affects which cause a spasm attack. We didn't know the reason and we came to hospital at 12:00 pm and wait in line till ~ 12:00 am by the reason that all rooms were occupied. My wife had a multiple strong spasm attack just in the middle of the waiting period and nobody even helped us. When we finally occupied the room in the middle of the night they provided us some regular procedure like check the blood pressure and blood diagnostic. Summary: the reason of spasm attack is not found and for waiting in line for 12 hours plus occupation the emergency room for one hour for regular medical procedure they charged us more than 1000 $.

I love my doctors here, I do not like the location or how confusing it is to navigate through the hospital. Also, my husband and I are in the process of applying for financial aid. This process is much harder to go through here and has so far taken a month. We just received our financial aid packet and at the same time a letter stating we were being sent to collections in 10 days. This was beyond frustrating. It seems for a facility packed with so many brilliant minds and sick people, there would be a system in place to prevent something like this happening and a bit more Grace for those in difficult situations, especially when we've been doing everything they've asked us to do. Hurtful and discouraging to say the least!

I have nothing but high praise. Was sent to Trauma unit 13A 09 rm with a view. Possible internal bleeding under sternum. Was at Kaiser ER for Clavicle fracture, rushed to OHSU Trauma 1. Just had open heart surgery several months earlier. Medical staff awesome!! RN, Laura was encouraging me all the way, her reassurance helped calm me down. Dr. Ranish Patel Surgeon/dr he was so compassionate & caring. He explained everything throughly. Multiple tests were run. Constant examinations by other drs. They even had a Swallowing therapist, my neck was swollen, hard time swallowing food & meds. She showed how to eat, swallow without having any problems. I was blessed to be under the care of the ER Trauma and unit 13A at OHSU.

  • T Jaem

The actual care I received was great. It's the billing office that is a huge problem! Even if you pay your bill, most likely you'll receive another bill as if you have never paid. I contacted the billing office (politely) and faxed a copy of the cancelled check. Although there were assurances the matter was resolved, another bill appeared. Again, another call to the billing office and the matter was "resolved". Now, I've just received my third billing for the same visit that was paid for over three months ago. What does it take to get the message across that once the bill is paid there should be no further attempts to collect on a satisfied debt? Unfortunately, I will have to move my care elsewhere.

  • D S

I am lucky enough to never have needed any services here but have visited the facilities and am in love! I cannot believe how well maintained everything appeared and just how large in scape everything was over all. While it is quite a trek maneuvering around on foot, and it can be some what of a hazardous drive if you prefer you own vehicle, the public transportation available is great. And do not forget the SkyTram is an option, if you want a little more adventure in your day. And maybe cost, since it is only free one way. The hills and dead ends abound here, so be warned! But do take in the scenery and just general serenity while you visit if you are able to.

  • Kail Greene

Entire hospital covers for mistakes to the point of ignoring peoples issues and claiming "nothing can be done" (which has since been contested by second opinions) when it would involve admitting they messed up. If I were you I would choose out of state care before coming to this joke, as pretty soon they are gonna be getting their funding cut for being grossly incompetent and/or ignoring people so they dont have to do the hard stuff. Disgusting. OHSU you should be ashamed of yourselves, you took oaths and leaving people to suffer so you dont have to face the music is breaking that oath on multiple levels. None of you deserve the title Doctor.

Friendly, only when they want to be. And very big hospital. My fiance had surgery on a rare tumor in his nasal cavity, causing breathing difficulties. But when he was in surgery we stayed in his room to watch and guard our stuff. Got kicked out so when he got out of a major surgery he had no room and they felt no need to keep him in the ICU. So talk to the board or top person of the hospital before letting them kick ypu out, yes there are waiting areas but they are always full. The tram is not recommended for someone who is deathly afraid of hights, I latched onto someone's leg. And yes I'm a chicken.

Having renal cancer & now a brain tumor, I have had MANY scans, all different types to. I have had them at the Providence Hospital in my hometown which is a few hours from OHSU, St. Vincent's Hospital & OHSU Hospital. OHSU was a great experience. I'm that person who kind of panics when getting MRI's because of the confined space, but they made me feel better & confident. The wait was short, the young gentleman who prepped me was very kind & the imaging lady who does my scans was so nice & caring. I will have to get frequent scans for life at OHSU & have no issue or reservations about going there.

I want to thank Kniight Cardiology, Dr Stephen Heitner's team & especially Dr. Howard Song & his team of cardio-thoracic surgeons for the work they did for my son, Alex! He has a better chance at a normal life now because of the surgical work ha had done for his heart on 08/24/2016! Its 08/29/2016 and my son is about to be released & sent home! I also wanted to thank everyone who staffs in ICU on the 12th floor of Koehler Pavilion, & also the staff of the 11th floor for taking such good care of my Alex while he is recovering from one of the most traumatic surgeries a body can have! OHSU rocks!!

  • Erika Stier

They saw to my health needs. I don't like the fact that they cut out my right hip leaving my leg a good 6-9 inches shorter than my left without informing me first. What I thought would be a quick antibiotics fix actually changed my world forever. Sometimes I feel like a guinea pig when I'm at OHSU. And the impact team here can be rather pushy. Some people don't have a life of their own I suppose. I'm on week 3 and it's been a ride. But the food is very very good I think. It's made from scratch and they even have their own bakery. The nurses are very nice and helpful and are happy to help.

  • Deidra Collins

One of the worst hospitals I have been at. I don't know who this lady was or even what position she held. I do remember her name however ( Deanne) she was very rude and when we asked when our brother could get some water she had us do it. I asked her why she didn't do it. She said we could either wait or we could do it ourselves!!! I was like what Is this a joke? It's her job to help patient ,but we the visitors had to do her job for her. He is in ICU and is that really how they treat patients here? Really? I did ask her if that isn't her job? Shouldn't she be doing this?

  • Bob Asterino

My time here was excellent. Top notch professional health care facility. I would recommend them highly based on the excellent service and thoughtful way i was treated by literally every person. You know i also think its cool to see the sprawling campus just buzzing with students that are there to learn and will also become really good Doctors and Nurses and all others in the field of medicine. The whole place is electrifying with good medicine! The whole joint. Everywhere you go around here you can feel it. Nice work .All of you should be proud.thank you so much. Bob

  • Peg Gillis

The ER department is horrible! The front desk was run by young filthy mouth girls. The f word was used loudly over n over! The language was terrible. No compassion towards anyone that came in even. The er rooms were dirty. The dept was ran by students.. Never took blood pressure. When asked by physician questions in the hallway their answers were I cant remember. I dont know!! Turned away a patient that was very ill... After 7 hours... Not acceptable. Never will take anyone there again. Pray no one dies from their incompetence n laziness there...

I'd like to start by saying, I'm a small-town person and don't like traffic. On that note I thought the parking was going to be an absolute nightmare. Because the fact that I have a large truck I was concerned about parking in the parking structure. As I pulled up they assured me right to an oversized parking area that was right in front of the building. The staff was amazing. The rheumatologist there is an absolute dream. She was nothing but helpful kind and polite. A professional, kind, polite doctor, with a big heart, that actually listened.

  • Mike Hall

My disabled son showed up for his dental appointment and was turned away because they didn't have access to one of his test results. Considering he had a broken tooth, was in a lot of pain, and hasn't been sleeping at night, and asked no questions at scheduling to indicate there would be a problem, then offered no assistance that would be helpful, nor would they allow him to be seen for pain management until he could get the issue of the test sorted out. It was a very bad experience for him and a horrible way to run a clinic.

  • Coach S

Where to even begin.... The ortho 9 unit nurses were amazing in caring for my loved one. One Nurse on that unit overstepped boundaries but shout out to Hector! The rest of the "teams" are a complete joke. They don't have any concerns and truly mean the best for you as you are just a paycheck that is how it felt. The worst care from a hospital that I was under the impression that this hospital is supposed to be the best. Make sure that you don't attend here and if someone you know is then I wouldn't leave them unattended.

  • Kayla

The NICU almost killed my brand new baby girl! By giving her a blood infection. They also treat babies like rag dolls ! The nurses are to busy socializing to even care for the babies they are watching. The doctors poked my daughter 6 TIMES for failed spinal taps that apparently in the end she never needed! Every time they poked her they missed for drawing blood. It goes on and on!! I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE AGAIN DEFINITELY DISGUSTED WITH THERE “CARE”....ps I have worked in health care for over a decade be warned!

  • Gavinardo

My wife was in a car wreck just a few nights ago, and needed emergency spinal surgery. The brilliant minds at OHSU fixed her back and made her better, and she’s currently comfortable and recovering in a clean and cozy room. I can’t thank OHSU and their staff enough for their professionalism, kindness and care for my wife. Ben in ICU, and Julianne in Trauma 13A are the best, as well as all their coworkers. OHSU is world-class. Myself and my wife can rest easy knowing she’s safe, and in good hands.

  • Deb Wharff

They put this Ol Humpty Dumpty back together again after I blew out my L1 vertebrae completely. Two back surgeries later an Urogyno.also contribution w/interstem connected to my bladder nerve in spine acting like a tinge unit for my bladder spasms an in-continuance controlled better actually got in a pool to swim! This hospital has done so much great things to great people as myself! I praise God everyday an walked again after the wonderful work they had done for me.

  • maria Bowmer

The Er is horrible . They have treated me badly every time I have been there . I see my Dr there and I love her , but hate the Er. Worst one in Portland . However , internal med dept is great. I have a lot of issues and most people there are fantastic. The lab on third floor is good too. In fairness I havent been to the Er in years , but according to some reviews they are the same . Nannette Marty is the best doctor , and Lauren Myers in the liver dept is too.

  • Ashley Dupree

My best friend got a rapid COVID19 test here, and the woman aggressively shoved the cotton swab so far up her nose it started bleeding, and usually it wouldn't be too much of an issue except she didn't apologize but instead replied with 'I hate having to do these tests" and was very rude. I get it, people don't want to have to deal with any of the COVID19 stuff, but please don't hire people that do extra things to harm people just because you hate your job.

  • James Wright

I dislike giving OHSU a two star review. But as a current patient who just suffered a tonic clonic seizure, hospitalized. I'm a little shocked that as a long time patient of the neurology clinic I am told to wait 2 months for my appointment... after I'm told to see the neurologist ASAP.... upon calling the clinic the nurse essentially blows me off suggesting I might have a sleep disorder.. highly unprofessional, unethical. A bit shocked actually.

  • Jesse Phillips

They caused my grandpa a lot of suffering with their incompetence. Specifically, they radiated my grandpa's spinal column without warning us of possible damage to his esophogus. The radiation damaged his throat so bad that he couldn't eat. He starved to death as a result. The radiation was supposed to reduce his pain by shrinking the tumor size, but these incompetent doctors ended up causing him much more suffering and a premature death.

  • John N. Healy

Solid ER, Eye Care and Physician care is great! Could have easily been a 5 star rating . . . however, calling to pay a bill one day after receiving it in the mail (yes, pay with cash out of pocket for services provided, doesn't get any better than that for a HealthCare provider, right??!!) and super rude billing office folks talking over me when I AM CALLING TO MAKE A PAYMENT. Very unprofessional back office service. Such a shame.

  • Nancy Stoll

My son spent a month in the Trauma unit after an accident which caused some serious internal injuries. We were sent from Children's because they were not equipped to deal with his rare injury. OHSU and the Trauma team there were miracle workers and became like family to us. Incredible knowledge, compassion and determination on the part of every single person that walked into his room. If you are at OHSU, you are in good hands.

  • Richard fuller

I had hernia surgery in general surgery dept. Very bad place to have surgery. The dept reception often don't answer the phone. God help you if you deslperately need help. Also, the nurses can take an hour or more to return your call. Also they would not give me a dose of painkiller that kept my pain under control. Honestly a sufficient dose for five days isn't going to cause addiction. Nobody made me feel taken care of.

  • Sean Parker

We just had our baby delivered at OHSU and received the most extraordinary care we could have ever hoped for. Every member of our sizable care team was lovely, enthusiastic, knowledgable and just plain joyful to be around. This experience, combined with a surgery I had here last year, tells me that OHSU is one heck of a good place, with a philosophy we need more of in the medical field. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  • Maile Reiniche

UPDATE: After many calls got a rep that was super helpful and fixed the situation. Was told I would be charged one amount prior to a telehealth appointment and was charged three times the amount. After inquiring I was told I'd get a call back in a week and did not. When I followed up they claimed there was no documentation of the inquiry in the notes. Doctors and nurses are great. Customer service and billing is not.

  • Lauren

Do NOT have your medical services done here. I was in and out in 15 minutes for a small procedure and they charged me nearly $3,000! When I called to ask if the charges were accurate, they told me that because they are an educational facility, procedures cost more. When I left my appointment, they made it seem as if it would be covered by insurance. I feel totally scammed by OHSU and will never go there again.

  • C Steelhead Heaven

Great programs when you are in the classroom otherwise, terrible! Administration can place a lot of stress onto a student. The employees in this office are not very well versed about their jobs, subpar. Like students don't have enough stress as it is. Can I be reimbursed for the times that they lost my transcripts., not once, not twice, but three times. Hello people, transcript being transferred cost money.

  • Lisa Fitzko

My experience with OHSU is wonderful, the Dr'S and nurses were very helpful with the meny questions I had with my knee and the surgery that was .needed. Personally, I 'am deathly afraid of going under , and what I will wake up and find. They were patient and walked me through what was going to be done. I thank ALL that was involved in the procedure, I would not hesitate if there was another surgery.

  • Patti J S

We use the Doernbecker Children's Hospital at OHSU on a regular basis. We've frequented so many departments. Every experience has been comfortable. The doctors, nurses and staff are helpful, friendly, caring and knowledgeable. Many of our appointments have been virtual, and those meetings have gone off without a hitch. We're so happy to have found such a tremendous community asset.

  • Hunter Gamble

I love OHSU! Quality care and happy staff. They really do make each child feel special. They saved my life. I had to have a spinal fusion due to a broken neck and was so close to becoming paralyzed. My neurosurgeon has never left my side and it has been 1 year since the surgery. They give outstanding service and don't be afraid to ask questions, that's why they are there!

OHSU is like a second family! I am a patient at the Diabetes Center, and I love all of the personnel I have worked with. JULIE STAHL IS THE BEST. She works so hard to help me manage my Diabetes easily and has gone above and beyond, even staying after her scheduled hours to help me get what I need. If you ever visit the Diabetes Center, you will not be disappointed.

  • Ann Gutwein

I have been a patient of OHSU for 3 years and my many experiences with the institution (including the Emergency section) have been totally positive. The medical personnel are focused on the whole patient not just the disease or problem. Having worked as a lab tech at UCLA Medical School and Cedars-Sinai in LA, I especially appreciate the care I have been given.

  • BRYNN FITZ

My dad had to have heart surgery and the whole entire staff was more then accommodating! They have been super amazing and even laughed at his bad jokes as he was coming out from his anthestisia. Thank you for going above and beyond for him! He means everything to me and you have left an everlasting impression on my entire family. I can never thank you enough!

  • Janice Hoffman

Gave my brother fantastic care last week. All the doctors, nurse practitioners and nurses were professional, friendly, and caring. In fact all the staff were very helpful and accommodating. They have "over-sized" parking for bigger vehicles and that was very helpful also. However it was not monitored well on weekends so was often full of smaller cars.

  • Dee Buckley

My wife went to OHSU for a kidney transplant on the 29th of March. Everyone from the surgeons to the nurses and staff were absolutely fantastic. My wife said she hated to leave (sort of) because she was so well taken care and pampered. Thanks to all of you at OHSU kidney transplant unit. Your professionalism is much appreciated.

  • Kathy McKenzie

I submitted a signed medical records release 3 weeks ago. Kept calling and was told I would receive them shortly. Called again today and was told I would get them in 7 days. I have a to have cataract surgery ASAP. This is totally ridiculous. Glad I don't live in Oregon anymore. Don't go to them if u need help w ur eyes!!!!!!

  • Adam Cain

Best doctors in the world. I go to Richmond Clinic on SE Division and 39th. It's a one stop shop with doctor's offices, pharmacy and social services all working together to give you the best health care possible. My primary care doctor is like a gift from heaven - believe it not, he actually listens! Definitely Recommend

  • Kelly Stinnett

The Orthopaedics Sports Medicine team, including Dr. Huff and Dr. Andrea Herska took my health care experience to a new level. My knee replacement is state-of-the art and my range of motion is exceptional at only 4.5 weeks out. Lucky You if you are reading this and need a new knee --you have found the right place.

  • P

The doctors are amazing but their billing department is AWFUL!!!! I have requested to dispute a charge that they can't explain the times and they never get back to me as they say. When I looked at BBB, I find I'm clearly not the only one that has had a terrible experience with their incompetent billing department.

  • Kevin Jones

The OHSU ER is typically a battle ground 24/7. The doctors, RNs, ED Techs, and RAD Techs all work extremely hard dealing with everything constantly thrown at them. If you have a serious emergency OHSU has the talent to mend you, that being said I would avoid the OHSU ER for an issue of smaller caliber.

  • ALICE PETER

Checking in was an easy process everyone was friendly & helpful, it was a fast process with no waiting they even called the Radio Cab for you when you're all done. I didn't get to take pictures of the place as we were in & out, but it was a great experience of being Down State's with my son.

  • Sydni Krieck

I will never go to get another ultrasound done by ohsu again. They made me wait 40 mins in the lobby past my appointment time and when I got the ultrasound done they lady was extremely rude. I went to st Venice for my first daughter and will now be going back there!

  • Suresh Sheth

It is very beautiful city and awesome weather.no tax, people are nice and friendly. It is very good energy among people.it is different feeling. This is as per I saw video..you can feel to go to study and share your knowledge and be a part

  • LeSean Lockridge

Great place to visit, whether ur a patient, family member, care-giver, medical service provider/staff/physician, or simply just a visitor of the beautiful views and ambience of PDX and it’s Oregonian topography. Excellent medical research

  • Charles William

I have lung cancer I was at OHSU from may 9 to may 22 of this year going through several tests and a possible surgery I was told that I have about five years to live maybe longer with or without the surgery. I saw no difference in quality

  • Evangeline Kippling

It appears that they have a very racist physician in their employment, Dr. Esther Choo. She made a very disparaging comment about a whole race of people on Twitter and the hospital's response was that this was "done on her own time". I am

  • Spencer Biddle

There are a lot of reasons why this place is so great. I can specifically speak for 10A. The nursing staff is wonderful and kind and eager to help. They are quick to help their patients and do it with a smile. The people make this place!

  • Bonnie Young

My son had eye surgery here last year when he was only 13 months old. The Dr and nurses and staff in general were all so accommodating and nice. They really helped us to feel better about the surgery. Also a beautiful building and view.

  • Lorraine Armstrong

I was treated so respectfully here and for the first time I didn't hear the word migraine. The neurosurgeon knew exactly the issue He sent me to the pain team. I still don't know the outcome yet, but at least I wasn't told I was crazy.

  • Nancy & Carlos

The best hospital in Oregon! I am a vent dependent quadriplegic and have experienced care at all the major hospitals in the Portland area. OHSU is the best . I wouldn't be here without the excellent care I have received there.

  • Angela C

The Dr was awesome!! and reassuring. We had was a little trouble to find where we needed to go the help helped and we were on our way and nobody said anything about being late . Maybe because it was a 4 hr drive. Great place

  • Kelly Anderson

What an amazing group of doctors and nurses here at OHSU. I have never been in a hospital of more compassionate, loving staff. The OB/L&D/NICU department’s are spectacular. I am so grateful we were lucky enough to be here.

  • A Thorne

I did not like having to be in the hospital, but since I had no choice I am glad it was at OHSU. A special thank you to all of the great people that made my stay so much nicer. If you end up there, you are in great hands..

  • Sonja Hoffman (LiL S)

They had helped my granddaughter Skylar from 3 days old wit her heart, wit 6 open heart surgeries & she is 15 today. They did a miracle & they do miracles everyday for children of all ages, they r wonderful pll

  • Gabe Smith

Having no idea my sweetheart of 13 years was on her deathbed, I was gently guided thru saying my last goodbyes before repeating the 4 hour drive home I'd just completed. The staff seemed quite caring.

  • Carl Anthony

The most professional and knowledgeable staff. This is an unparalleled medical institution. The cafeteria food is little a little on the pricey side but you can't put a price on good medical care.

  • Leslie Chadwick

Ohsu spine clinic is a great place to go. Never had I had a doctor say if anything comes up we will call you. They called me at 8am the next morning. That amazed me how quick they called.

  • James Goodyear

All interactions have been great. Everyone we met from people who work in the ER to medical staff to the valets all treated us very well and very impressed with the the medical staff.

  • Katlyn Owens

A current medical student assaulted me in Oklahoma City. Arrash Allahyar is a danger to women and children. Do not support this person. He will take advantage of you.

  • K G

As prestigious as this hospitals is claim to be. do not go for anything minor period. they will lie to you and lie when you're supposed to be next after 7 hour's.

  • Pat Kelly

Saw a vascular surgeon for update on my bypass in my leg. He was very knowledgeable, and was patient to educate me about changes in my condition.

  • Dawn Wolf

My son had an AAA at only age 32. The doctors and ICU staff at OHSU saved his life. It's a wonderful hospital.

  • Jonathan Eudy

Putting trans people on a pedestal isn't more important than someone's right to live.

  • Mark George

Still short on clinic staff. Long times to get an appointment made for care.

An evil evil university who tests on defenseless animals. Shame on you!
