I’ve been a client of Pet Sam for over ten years and feel that office and business practices have gone downhill since many changes in the last few years. The facility remodel is fine. It’s clean and comfortable. The front desk people are perfectly polite and responsive, and the vets seem to be okay. however….a few recent visits have convinced me to find somewhere else. Recently I took my two cats in, a 8yo for a wellness exam/vax and a kitten for wellness/vax. I think prices have def gone up as the entire visit was roughly $700. Fine, paid it. They did disclose pricing before ordering the vax and suggested labs. They do try to upsell you on every test imaginable for a kitten, which I don’t remember doing for past cats but whatever. They then tell me to come in a month to continue a couple vax boosters, fine. $45 per vax by the way (maybe this is standard). I come back in a month later, thinking that they will just give the cats a couple jabs and be done with it. Many vets do vax-only visits. When they brought me the bill, I find out that they decided to do two additional wellness exams on my cats, without my consent. Why would I have them exam my two healthy cats again a month later, especially if I didn’t have concerns. From the previous visit, I was sure they didn’t tell me that exams were necessary for getting vax, or I would have gone elsewhere to finish the series. As someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, and budgets hard for her cats, the additional $180 or whatever was not planned for. I totally felt scammed. Additionally, they will force you to drug your cats, even if they are well behaved during examinations. My older cat I guess scratched the tech during a vax and they gave me drugs to bring him back-which didn’t work anyway. He was was well behaved during the first exam. They backfired and my cat ended up being terribly anxious (way more than the previous visit). They wrapped him regardless to vax. I also was surprised that they did the first vax in their back room, but at the second visit, did them in the exam room. I dunno. Shop around. I guess ask every step of the way what you are getting charged for. I am so disappointed, and will be finding a new vet. Even if I pay more, I’d rather deal with somewhere transparent who are better with cats.

TL;DR (Updated) - Great people, and while a little pricey, they are upfront about it, which has been appreciated. Now has in-person or drop-off appointments, and while the schedule can get full, I've been able to get my pets in for appointments in reasonable time. UPDATE 2: I've been going back more and more to Pet Samaritan, and they've been very good about being upfront on pricing since my initial reviews. On top of that, now that they have the option of drop off or in-person appointments, it's helped deal with one of my dog's anxiety about being stuck at the vet. As before I've always liked the people there, and thanks to the changes, I'm adding another star to my review. UPDATE: Shortly after the issue with neutering, I was refunded the insurance fee since we didn't get to use it for the neuter. A small gesture, but it was appreciated. I'll start by saying that everyone I've dealt with there has been very nice and the facility is quite clean. Unfortunately, I've had a couple major problems with this place. First and foremost has been delays. I took my puppy to get his booster shots and other things, and had to drop him off in the morning since they weren't doing appointments at the time, being told he'd be done in four hours. Long story short, they couldn't see him until the very end of the day, which was very stressful for my pup. Second is price. If you get the pet insurance they offer, then prices are expensive, but manageable. If you don't get the insurance, though, then their prices are the most expensive I've ever seen. For reference, my dog's final bill for his neuter was over $850, which is far more expensive than I've ever seen. If we had their insurance, it would have been $400-500, which is still more expensive than I'm used to, but much more manageable. Third is how long it can take to get an appointment. I had gotten their insurance for the first year, but due to their surgery schedule being very full and the vet recommending waiting for him to be 13 months old, my insurance expired before I got to use it for his neuter. In short, while I appreciated this vet clinic being close and the people being pretty nice, the delays and the price make this clinic not a great option, so I'll be looking at other options in the future.

Tl;dr Pet Samaritan is a disorganized vet where the doctors will try to swindle you and nothing will be communicated. Go somewhere else! Talking to the vets Pet Samaritan is like haggling with used car salespeople. They'll try to upcharge you or sell you services you don't necessarily need and omit information to sway your decision. Some of the vets seem a little worn out on animals and lack empathy, and the receptionists lack inter-office communication skills. To illustrate: we brought our dog to update his shots before we surrendered him to a Humane Society (high anxiety dog living in a tiny home in someone's backyard with no space of his own and lots of triggers around, thanks Portland rent hike). The doctor tried to get us to renew his annual pet insurance (something like $120), telling us without it his vaccines were gonna be full price and insinuating that it would be expensive. Mind you, this is a dog who will be surrendered in a week so the insurance will be meaningless. After some back and forth, I finally spoke with a nurse who said skipping the insurance would be best as the vaccines were only $35 each. Like, why didn't the doctor open with that and instead skirt around the issue and pressure me into an insurance plan. During this same visit, while waiting to pick up my dog (he has to be sedated at the vet due to the anxiety), two different receptionists each called my partner's phone and mine within five minutes of each other to share the same information. Why didn't you communicate with each other and only call one of us once? Further, during this same visit they held my dog for about 8 hours. In those 8 hours, nobody could give me a quote for how much the day's services were going to be even after I asked four different people.

Update: prepare to also be bombarded with marketing emails begging you to review them. Unsubscribe from one survey provider, and they’ll send three more! Be careful what you wish for. Downgraded from 2 to 1 star. Mediocre first impression. I filled out all of the requested information with my new patient appointment request. Then they called and asked me to repeat everything. They said they didn’t receive the information, but I received a copy of it after submission. So they were missing vital information about my cat when we arrived. Repeatedly asked the same questions by different staff members throughout our visit. Terrible first impression of the clinic itself. Chaotic environment. Extreme, overwhelming body odor smell. Bad experience with the doctor/staff. I was asked to hold my cat still during the shot. I have never been asked to do this at another clinic. They usually have a vet tech to assist. Thankfully I was wearing long sleeves. Seems like they might have a staffing shortage. Unimpressed by the level of care. We are used to doing an annual fecal exam. These folks did not seem to think that was necessary. Extremely crowded lobby upon departure made for a lack of safe distance (re: COVID and re: pet comfort). I was hoping this place would work since it’s so close to my home, but we will look elsewhere.

My partner’s initial experience with Pet Samaritan was great- Dr. Erickson was very personable, kind, and direct when conducting a wellness exam for our dog. However, our other experiences there were quite negative. Both consisted of a top-down approach, insisting that the worst was happening/could happen and then being pressured into conducting extensive tests. Only once the most expensive option was conducted was it suggested that we try the easiest and cheapest solution to help our dog’s symptoms. I will say that the first time this happened, our concerns over this method were heard and addressed. Our most recent visit, however, resulted in the same frustrating approach. After I mentioned a small, new growth in my dog’s toe, I was immediately bombarded with a to-do list of lung xrays, additional blood panels (though I just got the extensive one upon their vets referral two months prior), anesthesia, biopsies, and toe amputation. I had to repeatedly ask what I could do for the immediate future to prevent infection and provide comfort for my dog. While reception was always welcoming and I do think that the staff does genuinely care about animals, I do not care for their approach or the interactions I had with them during my visits.

I can not praise Pet Samaritan Clinic enough! For six years, my dog was a patient at a high end veterinary clinic on Powell and I was always impressed by how professional they were. When my dog needed an expensive procedure, I decided to get a second opinion from Pet Samaritan clinic and they were so good with my dog that I chose to make them my primary veterinarian. And the procedure cost about 40% less than I was previously quoted at my other vet. My dog is a rescue with a history of abuse, and he can become very nervous and agitated when going to the vet. On our first visit, the staff were very patient with my dog, and the veterinary technician allowed him to sniff all of the instruments before she used them. She used a calm voice and demeanor to put him at ease. I couldn't believe how well he did during his visit, and I will never take him back to his old vet. Dr. Klau was extremely patient and kind with my dog and kept me informed via phone throughout his surgical procedure. Pet Samaritan Clinic also offers an amazing deal on a pet health care plan, which reduced my dog's surgical costs by about 25%. The staff is thorough, patient, and so nice. Thank you Pet Samaritan Clinic!

I brought my kitten in for the first time yesterday. I was a bit apprehensive because of the covid protocol and having to leave Pumpkin there all day, but I understand and at the end of the day, wasn't really an issue. She was there for a routine check-up, and they do treat in order of urgency, so I was ok with it. When it came down to treating Pumpkin, they called and communicated very well what they saw and what they recommended. I asked a ton of questions, and I was able to talk to the doctor which made me feel even more comfortable than I already was. If I had one critique, it would be maybe a bit of miscommunication. When I dropped Pumpkin off I asked if she would be around other cats. The tech told me that if she gets along with the others, then yes she would, as there is a cat room. Later, when I was discussing treatment with another tech, she said that she would have been kept isolated from the others. that would have been my preference anyway, but just left me a little confused. Overall though, my experience was great and I felt comfortable with the process.I trust them to care for Pumpkin, and will definitely be back.

Our 10-year old cat has been going to Pet Samaritan for years and our 9-month puppy Baxter has been going there since we got him at 8 weeks. Dr. Ewing is our vet and she is thorough and thoughtful. We had to sign a spay/neuter contract for our puppy and she was willing to go to bat to get the contract deadline extended to 1-year for the health of our puppy given that recent research findings indicate later s/n results in better development and lower incidence of certain cancers. Luckily, the breeder extended the deadline upon request, but I was comforted knowing that Dr. Ewing feels so strongly about doing the right thing for our pets that she would call or write to advocate for us. The downside of Pet Samaritan Clinic is definitely parking - especially with recent new development in the area, but I've never had a huge problem. The care is great, the prices are affordable and they have a great insurance plan you can purchase for pets on an annual basis to significantly reduce costs. The insurance does not preclude pets with pre-existing conditions and has saved us lots of money on our cat's treatment. Highly recommended.

They are stacking up as many pets in the morning in kennels as they can fit and my dogs have to wait for about 7 hrs every time no matter how early I bring them. The last time was 9hrs!!! And the saddest part is she got her shots done hours before but they wouldn’t call me until the vet did her review. They didn’t call at all I finally just came and got her. They started this “walk-in” process for Covid and I understand they are busy and understaffed but they could give a two or even four hour window and accomplish the same thing it’s just easier for them to park all the animals in the morning then skeleton crew the front staff. This is abuse and every time my best friends get stuck in a tiny kennel for 5-9 hrs they become a little more timid, angsty, and aggressive. So disappointed that they’re allowed to do this and make the same tired excuses. Just call me or send a premade message that they will be ready in the next few hours and I will bring them immediately! It’s so easy but they act like it’s impossible not to torture them for a whole business day

Disorganized, incompetent and passive aggressive. I waited for 15 minutes after the time of my appointment with nobody acknowledging that I was there, even though workers were walking by and I was seated a few feet from the front desk and no other pets were waiting. The vet tech was incredibly bad with my dog, getting into his face with their body language, and moving him around by pinching his skin, and I’m worried he’ll have issues now with other vets. They were also incredibly passive aggressive towards me, having an expectation that I record his weight before the appointment, but nobody showed me where the scale was or asked me to do it, and the tech was super rude to me, I had to ask them what their expectations were, and even then they couldn’t be direct or say what the business asked people to do and how. Also they misdiagnosed the problem, and seemed misinformed based on what other vets have now told me. I left with a dog who had an undiagnosed contagious disease despite my suspicion of what was causing his problems. I don’t recommend.

We have been at pet samaritan for a few years now and at first they were great. The last two times we have had concerns, they have suggested a drop-in appointment (drop off your pet between 8-10am) and said they would call us when they know what is going on and chat about a treatment plan. Great! but that’s not what happened. the first time, they never called us so at the end of the day we checked in and they said they were wondering where we were (checked to make sure they had the right number, they did but just “forgot to call”. This time, I took my senior dog in for severe limping. They kept him for 3 hours before calling to update and tell me they hadn’t given him an exam yet but recommended medicine and rest (for a $140 fee). I’m livid. I took my dog in because I wanted him checked out, not because I wanted him to sit alone in a crate for hours on end just to be prescribed a general pain reliever. I’m switching vets. and I recommend y’all don’t ever take your pet here for anything other than vaccines.

I am a new pet owner of two Siamese kittens, so don’t have much experience with the vets office. The hospital manager, Jenn, answered my initial call, was super friendly and explained how the new COVID-19 protocols worked, asked a lot of questions about my pets, and told me what to expect out of the appointment. I was super sad having to drop my new kitties off and leave them for the day, but the team got them inside out of the cold quickly and had all my paperwork ready at the drop off site. I expected them to be there all day, but was lucky enough to receive a call from Dr Shattuck at around noon. She laid out a treatment plan for them, talking me through all the options and what she recommended for the time being. I felt the staff was very friendly, efficient, honest and caring. My kittens Edie and Betty can be a little standoffish sometimes and I could tell they were a bit scared as I was dropping them off, but they came out seeming happy . I’m so glad I found Pet Samaritan!

I just adopted a dog and I took her for a general check up. They told me they were busy that day so the visit could take up to two hours. No problem. I left my dog with them and went home as they are not allowing people in right now. After 3 hours I called to check that everything was ok. They told me they had an emergency before so they were backed up but my dog was next and they were about to see her. One and a half hour later, I called again and they told me exactly the same. Really?! Even worst, after 5 minutes the lady admitted they had 6 other pets and she actually didn’t know when they would be able to see my dog. Maybe 1 hour, maybe 4. Long story short, 5 hours after I dropped the dog at the clinic she was still waiting to see the vet. I just picked her up and brought back home. Very frustrating experience, unless I have no other choice I won’t be taking my dog there.

Dropped our cat off for an 8 AM appointment for some quick shots. They didn't see him until 1 pm. He was alone, waiting to be seen, for 5 hours. No litter box to use, he peed all over his carrier when we picked him up. I understand that business is more complicated with COVID, but I don't understand how we can schedule an appointment weeks in advance and they can only give us a 6 hour window to get care. If we were waiting there with him there is now way they would make us sit for six hours, Pet Samaritan really does not care about your animal's well being. Please don't lie to us and say you have room for an appointment if it will take five hours for our cat to be seen. If you can't see him until 1, don't have us drop him off at 8! You can't simply can't just stack up a bunch of pets like cars at a mechanic and have them wait the entire day to be seen.

I was referred to Pet Sam by another veterinary clinic, and they were very helpful the day I got my puppy. They got me in a week before my appointment and what I love the most is they send you pictures of you fur baby while they are in care!!! Which means a lot that they take the time to do so. It confirms that my little Eeve is being loved and well taken care of. I also REALLY like that if I have a question I can send them a text and they get back pretty quickly! So far I am VERY happy with pet same the staff was alll soooo welcoming to me and Eeve. I know Eeve had a good time because when I walked by she showed signs of wanting to go back in! And usually from dogs in the past I know they get anxious going back to the vet. So, THANK YOU PET SAM STAFF/FAMILY for all the time/love/care you have shown Eeve. She very much appreciates it, and I do too!

Like pulling teeth (pun intended) to get any kind of ballpark quote. I totally understand that there are unknowns, but they were extremely reluctant to try and give me even some idea of the cost of a basic tooth cleaning and x-rays for a cat. Like a lot of other vets, they require an initial visit (in their case is prepaid). But unlike several others I've contacted, they acted like I was from mars because I wanted to have some idea of what I was looking at before I invested in the time/money of an initial appointment. I understand that vets are busy right now, but hell no am I about to sign a blank check. Especially when the costs at the other locations I contacted varied from around $200 to over $600. One star for customer service, another to give them the benefit about their actual services that I'll never have a chance to learn more about.

Very good Clinic for care of your pets. They maintain comprehensive animal records over many years, and this has been my go-to place for my cat's for the last 17 plus years. Both the support staff and the veterinarians are very kind and caring. They provide a wide range of prescription and over-the-counter medications and other supplies necessary for many stages of the animals lives, and medical and other kinds of care. I'm very happy with the service I have received over the years. They are always careful to explain the cost of the different kinds of services provided, and to Taylor and adjust what is provided to the budget that you either can't afford or are willing to spend on your animals, and to adjust treatments accordingly. I strongly recommend this Clinic for care of your animals for either short-term or long-term care needs.

I want to thank everyone that works in this office! I felt very comfortable leaving Harper for the day. She didn't have to wait long. In fact, minutes after arriving back home Dr. Watson called me with her thoughts and any tests she wanted to perform. She answered all of my concerns and really gave me all the time I needed to understand what possibly could be wrong with my girl. I was anxious about leaving her at first because Harper and I are very rarely apart. You see she's my emotional support animal and I'm her emotional support human. Everyone gave her love and attention when we arrived making my concerns go out the window. The icing on the cake was when they called me that she was ready to be picked up. She wasn't they very long. Thank you all again & your kindness did not go unnoticed!

I called a week ago to set an appointment as a new client. They said they were pre billing for appointments. I was caught off guard, so agreed. I’ve never been pre billed for an appointment by any business. I later found a better option and canceled the appointment. It took two calls to get the correct amount refunded. Then a few days later, the refund was reversed and I don’t know why. I called again and had to wait for a callback. I decided to file a dispute with my card company because I didn’t want to make at 4th call to get the refund. When the clinic called me back, I told them I filed a dispute with my bank. They were happy that I did that. This has all been very odd, especially since they asked for my full credit card number every time I called. Not a great experience at all.

  • Carrie Riley

Well, it's mixed. We are looking for a new vet, and the one we had is not it! I know they have a few there but the one we had is the one most pet owners hope they never get! She arrived at the room, barely looking at us, and the quickest exam ever! Very cold and uncaring. We felt her in a rush and didn't feel our senior dog or us were in the least bit important to her. But the vet tech Gwen was amazing! If not for her or the nice front desk girls, we wouldn't come back. The vet was in such a rush we had no time for questions and she didn't ask us hardly anything. Our dog is sick,so we are concerned. She literally spent less than 5 minutes with us! Our bill was nearly $700 for visit and blood work. We expect more service than we got for that! The pic is the sweet vet technician.

This is my second visit for my dog for a teeth extraction. Upon the first visit is where they told me that my dog needed this operation pains in his back molar. During the initial conversation I was told that the procedure would cost some where around $200. This morning’s drop off I was “estimated” it would cost $850+. I understand how estimates work but that difference is criminal and misleading. I’m not going to not pay for the operation but the person who quoted me the original cost is not capable and will lead others like me to find other vet clinics. They are handling COVID well, but if you are going to pay vastly different rates and can’t get feed back (visually - due to the pandemic), honestly I will take me and my buddy elsewhere. This is my last visit with them.

  • Emma Britton

My experience with Pet Samaritan Clinic is always wonderful. They clearly have so much care for animals and pet owners and this is evidenced with each step of the process; calling in for an appt, arriving for the appt and speaking with the vet tech (Gabriel is the one I've spoken with upon intake and he's amazing), speaking with the vet, and picking my pets up. I have two rats, and they treat them as carefully and respectfully as they would any cat and dog. This means a lot to me because some vet clinics don't really take as much care with rodents, but their lives have as much dignity as any other pet and the staff at Pet Sam treats them as such. I will continue to trust them with my rats and give them my business for as long as I am in the Portland area.

  • Sergio Fare

Our last visit to the clinic was the final straw. We took our dog because she was coughing and at the time their system was not working, so they could not check the records. The vet said she would review the records when the system is back up. Weeks to more than a month passed and nothing; no call. No follow up to see how our dog is doing. That is NOT customer service. In previous visits, we got the feeling that the staff that works there, including the vets, do not have a sense of care for their patients. We’ve had extremely long wait times, both waiting to be seen when we arrived early on time for our appointment and also for the medication. You may be walking distance for us, but we’re going somewhere else next time. Our pets deserve better.

  • Ciera Moberg

I just moved to the neighborhood and wanted to establish vet care in the area which led me to Pet Samaritan Clinic. I have a dog that is very anxious in veterinary settings and especially sensitive to needles. The front desk staff, vet tech/assistant & vet were all welcoming, kind, and personable. I greatly appreciate my vets willingness to let me do all of the required handling/ restraint while she administered vaccinations & that since it was a pretty routine checkup, we didn't have to be separated (which my dog also appreciates). She was very gentle & sweet with him & prioritized his comfort. As stressful as going to the vet is for us, this was one of our least stressful vet visits yet! They even offered him some cheese :)

  • Ali Martin

It is not too difficult to schedule an appointment last minute or get a walk In appointment. The office staff and technicians are nice and good with the animals. The check out process can be slow. Pet Samaritans prices are very high, I was quoted over 400.00 for a next day urgent procedure for my dog but ending being able to get the procedure complete the same day at Dove Lewis for half the cost. I had asked the vet about getting the procedure done at Dove Lewis same day and she said well you can do that if you want, you'll spend way more money going there though. At times I find the supervising veterinarian to be a bit condescending and passive aggressive which is disappointing. It is a small office that gets the job done.

  • Stefanie Folkerts

I've taken my cat previously to Pet Semaritan with a recommendation from my friend. I've been happy with the care he received. Though with their new COVID set up, I was not happy with my experience. I was told to bring my cat in as early as possible under the impression that he would be seen quickly. I was extremely anxious about dropping him off and leaving him. It ended up taking over 7 hours for him to be seen, only to find out later that I could have just scheduled him an appointment in the afternoon. The staff was kind and professional, but this situation was very stressful for me and my pet. I would think they would have a better set up, like time slots, that would be less scary for animals. I wont be returning here.

  • Jen Sotolongo

My dog is really not a fan of the vet and I felt confident that Dr. Shattuck and the vet tech heard me when I gave them instructions on how best to manage him during our new client visit. The fear-free approach is key to successful visits for us and the entire staff was understanding of my dog's needs due to his anxiety. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the reception desk is immediately behind the doors where dogs come and go, forcing them into the same very small space. It is not an ideal set up for reactive or anxious dogs or cats who are afraid of dogs, etc. If they one day renovate, I hope they'll consider moving the front desk elsewhere!

  • Margaret from Portland

I have been taking pets (cats and dogs) here since 1998, and have never had a bad experience. Some of my pets have had serious illnesses (including a cat with FIV and severe skin problems, a dog with chronic eye ulcers and spinal cord problems, and a dog with liver disease). The veterinarians and support staff have always been extremely competent, conscientious, and kind. They often go the extra mile doing things for which they are not reimbursed--for example, making lengthy follow-up phone calls to check on a pet, and consulting directly with veterinary sub-specialists--because they care. I have no complaints and recommend them highly.

  • Quinn Z

I’m a new client since moving back to pdx. My cat just had her dental exam and bloodwork for an upcoming dental cleaning. She has an extra premolar, which needs to be removed, that her previous veterinarian did not mention! Everyone I’ve spoken to is super kind and thorough. Though she was there for several hours (because of covid, the animals are dropped off in the morning, and exams take place after surgeries, so the cats are in a kennel with a litter box), my cat was happy and only complaining slightly when I picked her up! I feel confident taking her back for her cleaning and extractions.

  • Izzy Scott

We took our dog, Doug, in for the first time a couple weeks ago when we discovered he had an infection on his paw. They were able to get him in the day that we called and were very thorough throughout the whole check-in process. Both the vet and the front desk staff were very complimentary of our pup, so it felt like he wasn’t just being treated medically, but was also making some new friends. His paw is doing much better with the meds and advice from the vet and they called us last week to make sure Doug was doing alright. We feel like he’s in good hands and will definitely be coming back!

  • Eileen Kennedy

My dog Kofi is well cared for here. The staff is very kind and very helpful. Kofi loves her vet doctor, Dr. Larson as well. My dog is 16 years old and I think I have received good care and important information on aging dogs. I also qualify for a health care plan each year which I take advantage of. I think it is helpful to get discounts on care. The neighborhood has changed and it is hard to find a parking place but they have a little parking right in front if your dog or cat cannot make the walk from elsewhere. The vets are willing to email you if you have questions.

  • Amber Williams

Pet Samaritan has been so great! Our older dog recently started having some medical issues. We were able to get her in right away, diagnosed and medicine in hand by the end of our visit! Excellent follow up as well over the next week to make sure she was doing well on the medication, feeling better etc. All staff were very friendly and answered all questions we had. Pet Sam isn't anywhere near where we live but I am happy to drive the 45+ minutes to have such great care for my pets! I would recommend Pet Sam to anyone looking for great care for their furry loved ones!

  • Erin Willems

The care we’ve received at Pet Samaritan has always been great. No complaints there. My only complaint is their prices. Of course, taking your pet to the vet is always expensive, but Pet Samaritan is the most expensive vet I’ve ever been to. Last week, our dog had some bloodwork, chest X-rays & a prescription for anti-anxiety meds & the total was just under $900. We went there because they were one of the few clinics accepting new patients when we got our dog back in Sept., but we are currently “shopping” for a different vet that is not so expensive.

  • Keryn Thai

We've been to several veterinarians in our short time with a pup, and this was by far the best experience yet. We've been dealing with emergency visits elsewhere for over two months and never felt like there was any clarity or direction for what was ailing our precious dog. After Dr. Kennedy examined him, she called me with very clear answers and put everything into terms that I understand. They also printed out an action plan which is SO helpful when you're so stressed by your dog's illness that it's hard to take in new information. Love this place!

I have been taking my fur babies here for about a year. They are caring and helpful. They offer an option to drop off my pets in the morning and they take care of of my pets' needs by the afternoon when there isn't an opening in their schedule. I am currently using their mail order pharmacy which is a cheaper long term medicine option. I feel that they are offering a great service for the price. My only complaint is it can be hard to find a close parking place but it is a busy part of town but that is out of their control.

  • Corinne Bart

Do not take your pet here as a new patient. They are accepting way too many new patients and the veterinarians are far too busy to give your furry one the care and attention they need, nor you your piece of mind. Also, there are so many vet techs, yet none of them have the decency to remember your name or your situation or any details about your pets health. I don’t even start on the cost of treatment. It’s frustrating to say the least. I will be looking for another vet, even if it takes me some time to find a good one.

  • Alexander Rebielak

Positive experience during difficult times. Dr. Kennedy and team provide an invaluable service given all the constraints during the pandemic. I found Dr. Kennedy to practice with grace and humility. Her staff was focused, courteous, and professional. I'm grateful to Dr.Kennedy and team for being able to see Felda and provide quality care and excellent patient experience. Start to finish with all staff members, THANK YOU we know you're working overtime and we appreciate your dedication and true grit!

  • Dustin Brady

I found a stray kitten running through traffic this week and brought him immediately to this clinic. They where able to help me get him connected to the proper services, and gave him food, water and a carrying case so I could bring him home safely. The front desk staff where extremely helpful and kind and it shows how caring and compassionate they are for animals. I would make them my regular vet if I lived closer, but I can't reccomend them enough for all your pets veterinary needs.

  • ashley pinkerton

I am so happy I brought my new little rescue to you for her checkup. Everyone was so friendly and I can’t think it’s just because my dog is so darn cute (though I’m sure it helps). Wonderful services. Attentive care. So happy to set my baby girl up with her veterinary care here. And thanks for teaching me about nail trimming and showing me exactly how much to trim! I’ve only done cat claws up until now. At least dog claws will be way less painful for me :) Thanks to all of you!

  • Mike P

The people seemed knowledgeable and very nice. My concern is about the treatment of my pet. The business model is to drop-off and leave the pet, rather than having an appointment. It took 7-hours to perform a checkup and such. After picking up my pet, he was ravenous for water (and maybe drank about a gallon of water after getting home). I suspect the vet left the pet locked in a little cage for 6-hours with no food, water, or method of relief. I'll think twice about returning.

  • Dylan Sowers

Friendly, thorough, loves animals, proper procedures, but expensive and no payment plans for people with poverty level incomes they do take care credit and have an insurance plan but I wouldn't recommend it it only took 80 dollars off a 400 dollar neuter procedure and it costs 250 dollars so maybe in the long run it works a little I do not want to take away from the thoughtfulness of the employees but unless you make enough money it's probably not the place you wanna go

  • Kayla Maciel

We have a super unique vet situation in the fact that our pets are rats. Not only does this Clinic see exotic pets, in my experience they have been able to see rodents the next day…which is lightning speed compared to other clinics/vets. The staff is all very friendly and they’ve taken great care of one of my little guys each time we have taken him to be checked out. Even though it is about a 30 minute drive for us, we will continue to choose this clinic!

  • Nicole Ritz

I saw both Drs. Kennedy and Shattuck for the first time this week, and I was very impressed. Recently, I moved and decided to transfer the care of my cat, Sunny, from a mobile vet service, to a brick-and-mortar operation close by. I loved my previous vet, but the switch made practical sense. Luckily, I think it's going to work out. The clinic staff is respectful, helpful and responsive. The vets seemed extremely capable. And they were wonderful to Sunny.

  • Alexandra Cyrus

I will only be coming here for my veterinary needs from now on!! I took my cat here to get bandages changed on his broken leg and they not only did that but they also refilled his pain medication prescription, and gave him additional meds for swelling!! They even called to check on him the following day to make sure he was doing alright. My girlfriend also brings her dog here and she swears by this place!! Thank you guys so much for your great care

  • Justus Strong-Rico

I have a very anxious little pup and the staff was so good to her. They were polite of her boundaries and did their best to do their job while being safe for both them and Millie. They also had the opportunity to run test and charge me a few hundred extra, but they found a solution to my problem before testing was done and saved me a few hundred dollars. They looked after myself, my pup and my wallet. What more can u ask for in a vet visit?

  • Gayle Keller

It is hard to get an appointment in a timely manner right now and have had to go to the ER vet a few diffrent times due to not being able to get in within a few days or even a week. It seems like some of the vets are very experienced and some are not. Pleasant staff and unpleasant staff. It is good to be diverse. Some good vets. Parking is street parking and a limited parking lot. It can be hard to find a parking spot.Prices are reasonable.

  • Sarah Stanze

I've always had a positive experience here! They helped diagnose my dog with a chronic illness ~10 years ago and since then we wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! (Yes even now after we've moved out closer to Greshsm) I trust them with my animals because you can feel the love when you walk in. They absolutely care and do everything they can to help. I highly recommend them to anyone still searching for the right fit for their fur babies!

  • Aprille Teeter

Dr. Ewing and the staff at Pet Samaritan are AMAZING. Both of our Corgis and all of our Rabbits are seen by Dr. Ewing. We have one rabbit who has had a lot of medical problems since she was a kit and Dr. Ewing along with the wonderful staff have taken such great care of her. She went above and beyond to make sure Sally made a full recovery after a particularly bad illness. I have recommended several friends here and will continue to do so!

  • L. Rennick

I took my cat here for the first time since adopting him from OHS. The staff was kind and personable. They did a thorough check up on my cat and removed some stitches from his eyes. He looks and feels great! I wish that I'd had more time to chat about his visit and next steps with the vet at the end of the visit, but it was a great experience overall and I would absolutely recommend Pet Samaritan to anyone looking for a new vet.

  • Adam

Just remembering my brief experience there. Brought my coughing dog in. Fully communicated this to them in advance..dog coughed in lobby and I was told to stay outside after being in the lobby 10 minutes with other dogs (sorry to the other dog owners). Asked for no rectal temp, they said no other option and my dog snapped..then acted like it was her fault. Absolute horror show of a veterinary clinic. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE.

  • Rose

I hope You all stay forever!!! It’s been a difficult time for all and I know it will get better again and I will be able to get to know all the new people at the clinic. And see all the dear long timers that are still there that I love. And it will be great to see the faces of the Vets. Pet Sam you have weathered this storm marvellously.. I have been going to this clinic for over thirty years and will never go any where else!

  • Jessica Thompson

Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable and took good care of my pet. I am not a fan of the drop off/pick up procedure, however. I felt uncomfortable not being able to go in with her during her examination, and the first come first serve appointment time is not ideal. I may seek a different vet if Samaritan is still operating this way the next time I need to take her in. I mean no offense, it just doesn’t suit my style.

  • Jordan Wynne

We were THRILLED with our service at Pet Samaritan! We had so much trouble finding a vet clinic that was accepting new pet patients, but they were able to accept our two new kittens and book an exam for both within a month. From reception to exam room all staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and patient as we asked questions and retreived our kitten from jumping on a top shelf. Great experience, very happy!

  • Marie Schultz

Always great care for our pet Corgi's. We recently had to bring our sick pup, Nellie, in for care, Dr. Ewing, without hesitation, gave the plan of action to get Nellie feeling better and within 24 hrs, she was. Dr. Ewing cares for her patients as if they were her own. Can't ask for anything more than that from your pet's doctor. The rest of the staff have been nothing, but great too. Thank you Pet Samaritan!

  • Elizabeth Edgar

Chowder is just thrilled every time we go visit her friends at Pet Sam! This crew is so talented and caring that she never seems to realize she is there for shots or pokes and prods (they are very gentle, this is the whole reason we’re there!). Every person from checkin and reception to the techs and vets have been helpful, thoughtful, and focused on preventative care and Chowder’s wellness.

  • Santiago Pena

My dog started to have seizures so I brought her here, this place was hands down the most caring and cost effective. I highly recommend this vet..UPDATE ‼️ My wife brought our daughters cat here and they still are amazing They truly take the time to listen and help fix the problem.. once again most cost effective veterinarians.. I still stand behind my recommendation of this place..

  • Emma Wood

We adopted a dog in Washington but live in California. The breeder didn’t give our puppy any shots and so we stopped in Portland to start her on her vaccinations. Pet Samaritan was great especially with Covid they made us feel totally comfortable. Unfortunately we don’t live in Portland or else we would keep them as our permanent vet! Thanks for helping us out at such short notice!

  • Avery Leinova

The staff and doctors are always kind and compassionate. They work with me to find good health solutions that I can afford for my cat. I have taken my pets there for over 30 years. I now take my dog to Pet Samaritan. That is a testament unto itself. I will say that their care is expensive - they quoted almost $900 for teeth cleaning - a price definitely too steep for us to afford.

  • Marge Bazyuk

I love this Vet Clinic. Everyone is so nice and even with everything going on around COVID, they still remain patient and kind. We just started taking our new puppy there, and they have an incredible pet care plan, that covers so many different things and has a ton of discounts on various services. If you need a vet for your puppy or older dog, I highly recommend this clinic!

  • Deanna Epley

My rescue dog Smiley and I both are dealing with high anxiety issues. My spouse recently passed away. The loss of our loved one, moving three times and COVID concerns have made our anxieties worse. Okay Pet Samaritan helped me and Smiley during these difficult times. I am very grateful for their kindness and caring treatment for Smiley and toward me. Deanna and Smiley.

  • Ariel Rousseau

We recently took in an abandoned cat and the staff and doctor were very kind and helpful with answering all our questions. Our cat was very anxious and every person that interacted with her was so gentle and respected her boundaries. Another vet actually recommended Pet Samaritan to me so we could get our cat looked over as soon as possible, and I’m so glad they did!

  • Jill Fransen

Pet Samaritan has great front staff and the best docs. I love when they get down on the floor and talk to our girl face to face. Violet has never been afraid to go in and her tail wags the whole time. They are kind but even more importantly, they are knowledgeable! We love Pet Samaritan and are so glad we chose them when Violet came into our lives 2 years ago.

  • KJ Moore

I have never had a bad experience here. Every time I go in, I'm greeted with a smiling face and a treat for my dog. They've also been really kind about payment plans, since vet bills can add up. Shelley (the front desk assistant) is absolutely wonderful. I've had so many pets over the years and have never had a veterinary team this caring and compassionate.

  • Iris Gorman

I was basically called a liar by one of the vet techs about my pets health history when I was picking up them up. Being called a liar and being judgemental of a person trying to take care of their pet is disgusting. I've had Two interactions with this vet tech both have been terrible. If I wasn't on their discount plan I wouldn't bring my cat back there.

  • Beth Hefner

We took our 8 week old pup in for his first visit and had so many questions. The doctor was very patient and thorough. She made our baby boy feel comfy which made us very happy! Front end staff was cheerful, welcoming and efficient! Walked away knowing what he’ll need on the upcoming months and with all of our questions answered. Great experience!

  • Molly Tveite

Wonderful clinic! Compassionate, friendly and efficient. I was able to get in next day as a new client when my dog wasn't feeling well. The vet tech and veterinarian were very friendly, caring and helpful. The vet was able to diagnose the issue without a lot of expensive testing and provide medications with detailed instructions upon departure.

  • Aaron McFarland

They were so sweet with my kitty! Shes a bit overweight and they were so kind about it and helped me come up with a plan to help slim her down. Excellent vets and excellent front desk! The prices seemed alright too, though I'm not super familiar with vet pricing. When I came it was around 70 for a new patient appointment.

  • Emily Cook

The staff at Pet Samaritan have always made me feel that my pets are in good hands. They are up front about the needs of the animals, and are skilled at working with my anxious lad who likes to be the boss of everyone in the room. I have confidence that they are doing their best work for my fuzzy family members.

  • Danielle Jensen

Been searching for a knowledgeable rabbit vet for a few years! Dr Winston is amazing! We also just moved our Dogs over and i was extremely happy with their first visit. Next will be our cats! I really appreciate their knowledge, understanding and compassion ❤️ Thank you from Charlie(the bunny), Zues and Shilo!

  • Lila Manner

Absolutely stellar clinic! My pup was having an issue with her eye so instead of an emergency clinic I called around to local places to see if anyone could squeeze her in, Pet Samaritan fit her in same day! Got her all set with medication. Will definitely be switching to them for primary care from now on!

  • Shannon Koehle

I have been bringing my dog Lucy here for more than a year. Everyone from reception to the vets are helpful, responsive, engaging, personable, and will direct you to someone else as needed. I could not recommend this group enough and will happily return with my pup as long as I am living in the region.

  • Madeline Byers

The team at Pet Samaritan is attentive and thoughtful. During my recent visit, I had all my questions answered and Dr. Watson and her vet tech provided a range of options for the care our cat needed. Thank you to the whole team at Pet Samaritan! I highly recommend them for all your veterinary needs.

  • Marvin Lurie

The best recommendation we can give comes directly from our dog, Tasha. If we walk past the clinic she sits down in front of the door and won't move until we go in and she says hello to everyone and gets a treat. We human's feel she's always gotten excellent care from friendly and caring people.

  • Robin Nelson

The entire process was easy, from scheduling to the drop off and pick up. The doctor was very responsive and supportive in taking the time to answer all of my questions about my new puppy. As someone new to pet ownership, this was not something I ever expected experiencing from a Vet.

  • Harris Bittler

I LOVE everything about Pet Samaritan Clinic! I trust them completely with the health of my cats and bunnies. I had to be out of town and boarded my bunnies with them. The buns came back happy, healthy, and even better brushed and bathed than I could have hoped. 5 stars- always.

  • Stephanie Benedict

I love pet sam! We have taken our 10 year old wild pup there since he was 6 weeks old. There is no other clinic we trust to trim his nails (hes a bit wild) test any strange lumps and bumps and provide him with love and good care when he arrives. 10/10 stars from us and Leo

  • Rob Sauer

Very caring for my dog. They are always trying to help with her anxiety. Budget conscious. They could improve their confidence with diagnosing issues. As a first time dog owner, I would appreciate more direct guidance on steps I should take. I recommend Pet Samaritan.

  • Gayle Keller

We used to go here often because we have 6 dogs. We moved away for a few years. Just moved back to PDX. The front desk staff were not great. Well 1 was fine amd the other was grumpy. The doc was just okay. We miss Dr Davies who was there before. She switched clinics.

  • mark Melia

My wife and I have brought out dog to Pet Sam since the day we got her. The staff is wonderful from the front desk to the Vet techs and the actual Vets themselves. We moved but still drive across town to have them take care of our Domino, we wouldn't go anywhere else

  • Kailee Pirch

Everyone was so nice and Rosie my dog was so nervous but stopped shaking as soon as the treats came out and everyone did their best to get on her level and go at her pace. She definitely made friends and left there as a happy pup. They were great in every way!

  • Mattie Krall

We have been taking my pup to Pet Sam. for a few years now and we love them! They have never failed to get back to me immediately and make us feel cared for. My dog isn't even scared to go to the vet anymore! (ok, well not THAT scared. haha.) Highly Recommend!

  • julianne lau

It’s always a wonderful experience to visit with my 6 cats. The staff is amazing and Dr Shaddock is the best. We will follow her wherever she goes. Due to my cats being Savannah's they are very difficult to handle at times, but everyone is amazing with them.

  • Pam Poovey

This place treated me like I was abusing my cat before I had to put her down due to cancer. Horrible front desk staff, but a really sweet (traveling) doctor. They also overcharge wildly, you can get much better service and the same level of care elsewhere.

  • Jonah Poole

I had an amazing experience. Their attention and focus on the animals were truly refreshing in comparison to past vet experiences I've had. They made you feel comfortable, and communicated very effectively. I really appreciated the Burnside clinic team :)

  • Landyn Harper

I brought my cat here because she was experiencing symptoms of a UTI. They were quick to get me an appointment, were communicative, and the treatment was affordable. After a long acting antibiotic, my fur baby is finally acting like her normal self!

  • Abbie Lu

I have always had good experiences with this veterinarian clinic. I believe the prices are fair and the pet plan is very helpful. I would recommend this vet. They also offer drop off appointments which I find very helpful with a very busy schedule.

  • Tamara DeRidder

An Excellent choice after being at VCA Laurelhurst! We put our pup on the Pet Sam Plan for her first year and just had her spayed at 8-months. We paid less that $500 out of pocket and saved close to $700 due to this Plan!! Thank you Pet Samaritan!!

  • Reagan Ellis

This was my first visit to Pet Samaritan and I found them to be lovely. The online appointment system was easy to use. The staff was helpful, friendly and kept me in the know about my pet's condition and diagnosis. I would recommend their services.

  • maggie. t

We've been taking our cats here for a little over a year and they are great! . The prices are reasonable, they are always very honest and have always taken very good care of our cats. They can usually fit you in quickly, too! We <3 Pet Samaritan!

  • Sarah Emery

Our vet and team were so kind to us and our animals. They were so calm and helpful. We are and were very stressed about our animals conditions and they made it so much easier. They explained things in detail, and really took their time with us.

  • Emma Newman

Great vet! They've always made time for last minute appointments when something urgent has come up and haven't even charged me for rechecks. I really appreciate that they allow texts for questions and will take a look at pictures to give advice

  • Jim Prather

Brought our dog to the drop-in morning session to have a tick removed from her lower lip. She was admitted, treated and successfully discharge. The clinic staff practiced good covid procedures, were friendly and took excellent care of our dog.

  • A.B. B.

The doctor was compassionate and knowledgeable. Getting an appointment was easy, and the wait time in the lobby was minimal. This is one of the few places in the greater Portland area that will treat small animals and pocket pets like rodents.

  • Theodora Prue

I adopted a very (unbeknownst to me) sick kitty on a Tuesday and brought him in on the following Friday for a check up upon realizing that he was as sick as he was. We were both treated with kindness and compassion by everyone in this

  • Alisandra Brasells

I was fairly anxious about taking my cat to the vet, due to the new Covid restrictions, but was so pleasantly set at ease by the staff at Pet Samaritan. They were communicative & fairly priced. I would trust them with my cat again.

  • Kristin Boggs

Very friendly. Do everything they can to make an anxious dog feel comfortable. In case of an emergency, they try really hard to for you in their schedule. The drop-off appointments are very convenient for people with M-F/9-5 jobs.

  • Danielle Crockett

Great first experience for our little pup Bosa! They made the entire experience very easy from booking online to the drop off and pick up. Lucky we found such a great vet and didn't feel taken advantage of payment wise either!

  • Candy Emmons

We were long time patients at this practice and I’m sad to report that the quality of care, communication, and kindness we expect has completely deteriorated in the past year. We have transitioned our care to a new practice.

  • Shannon Walk

Great customer service. The staff was genuinely helpful in treating our boy with extra care because he is nervous at the vets. They won him over with affection and treats. They were rewarded with kisses from him. Well done!

  • Catherine smith

Have been our family vet for 20 years, can't recommend highly enough. When 2 days at emergency vet couldn't get our cats fever down, Dr. Erickson did in 4 hours. Very caring, and helped us learn how to do stuff ourselves.
