They're ripping off customers on feeder rats. My normal Petco is undergoing renovations so I had to come here for a feeder rat. They had one tank for rats, containing one rat. That alone is against their own policy as stated on a label on the rat tanks in the other store (rats are gregarious and do not do well in isolation). The tank had a label for "Large Rats," but the rat inside was clearly a juvenile. I jokingly mentioned to the attendant that the rat looked a little small and he brushed me off. When he retrieved it and I could see clearly it was a juvenile, I more sternly stated that it was not "large" and overpriced for its size (having worked at an independent pet store for years, their rats are already double our price). He leaned down, looked at the label, and said, "no, it says it's large." When I asked another employee about the size discrepancy, they also brushed me off. I went home and weighed the rat. It was 130 grams - the average adult rat weighs 250-300 grams. My snake effectively scoffed at it and was reluctant to eat it, but having no other option, it was all I could do for her. I should have talked to a manager, but this seems to be a trend. Even the regular Petco I go to often has juvenile or young adult rats sized up one, though they always have three tanks for three sizes.

We both purchased pet supplies and participated in a training here. Training: Our doggo was a rescue from a local shelter and came to the adult 1 class with many of those habits (or rather, lack of those habits). The lead trainer was shocked as our dog barked in the first class around the other three (smaller) dogs, despite a lack of introduction time. The other three dogs seemed pure bred and well trained already, so clearly there was a gad. The lead was accommodating and genuinely wanted to help so we switched to a private class where our dog was used with trainers in training. One of the assistants was great, but the lead spent most of the lessons commenting on how much our dog shed, her anxiety. Eventually class time was shortened in the "best interest of our dog" and by the end we were told our dog needed to be a vet and could not continue at Petco. Again, with the assistant our dog was fine. And all of the above behaviors are common of dogs. No refund was offered, we were simply asked to leave. I was very disappointed. I would give it one star but the assistant was great and if you need pet supplies, it is a Petco so they have it here. And I assume if your pet fits the above description, ie already trained, you'll find exactly what you need.

Employees appeared to be indifferent, with no smiles, no personalization, etc. I had purchased a few items and was asked if I would like a bag. It was obvious that I did not have a personal bag to put the items in. Was I supposed to juggle them out to my car when it had taken a cart to get them to the register? One item was still left loose for me to carry. It was a water bowl (gravity) that would not fit in the other bag, and I am guessing that they could not afford to give me a second bag that would make carrying the item easier for me. Did I want a receipt? Is there another way to have proof of purchase? Is the company struggling that badly that they cannot afford to give customers bags or receipts? It has been proven years ago that trying to cut costs in this manner has proven to be a really poor choice to maintain great customer service. Also, items were not in line with the correct pricing on the shelves (gravity feeders and water bowls). It was a guessing game to figure out the correct price.

Wish I could say that my experience was a good one. Went into the adoption center, saw a kitten get dropped off, fell in love and then everything just spiraled out of control. Long story short, I was denied the chance to even TRY to adopt a kitten while a white female character I created was more than welcome to adopt the same kitten and its siblings. We were told that kitten was injured and set to be euthanized on the same day it was promised to "Tabitha" who essentially doesn't even exist. When I called the store to inquire about Teddy, I was immediately hung up on. Apparently Petco doesn't care about affiliating with an adoption agency that practices racism and discrimination against people with disabilities. I have emails, voicemails, videos and text messages as proof. They can ignore me all they want but I'm not going to stop speaking out against this because they are wrong. Race should never be a factor in determining whether a person can provide a loving home to an animal.

Stopped by this location today to return an item, it was after 60 days. The cashier who initially helped us called over a guy to help, who I am assuming is the manager. He proceeds to tell me that he cannot accept the return because it’s been after 60 days. The guy then says he can only offer me a 20% discount on a future purchase when I asked if I could get a store credit since it’s been over 60 days, and since store credit ACCORDING TO PETCO’S POLICY, states that’s all you can get. It’s literally only been like 65 days (brought it early July) since I purchased this item. He was truly unhelpful and honestly wasted my time. Thankfully, another employee came and helped. Attached is Petco’s policy. Hopefully he’s not the manager because he needs more training on Petco as a company. The two stars are only because of the nice employee Jessica who helped my boyfriend and I today with the return. Kudos to her!

hey Petco, your regional management needs to get ahold of this store and reteach customer service. My wife has been planning a trip overseas which has been very stressful because she wants to bring our lovely dog and the laws and restriction (if you know anything about that) create a lot of stress. That being said, my wife was looking for a specific type of crate with specific size and ventelation requirements of which my wife attempted to explain to a member of your staff. After repeated assurance and ignorance of my wife's stipulations he convinced her to purchase a crate that was not within those vary standards that she tried to explain. She then had to take time out of a busy day to return the item in which there was no repentence of any kind. This particular sale and refund resulted in never returning to that particular store and purchasing the correct product via competitor. - and I'm pissed

I am still trying to wrap my head around why they continue to sell houseplants, such as pothos, ficus bejamina and a type of rubber tree, which are poisonous to cats and dogs, right next to cat grass and catmint. It’s a pet store, most of their customers are going to be people with cats and/or dogs. Why not sell exclusively pet safe plants??? Whoever came up with the idea of selling houseplants, but not pet-safe ones, at the pet store, should be fired; for potentially harming pets by implying that they’re pet-friendly, but also for missing the opportunity to sell houseplants on account of them being safe for households with pets. There’s not even a sign saying some of them might be toxic to pets, which I recall seeing in the past but was not there today. Nothing even on the labels saying toxic to pets. Whose idea was this and what is wrong with them???

I went to petco at this location for Ferrets. When I got to the store and lo aged the ferrets, what I saw and smelled was WOW! and not in a good way either! The ferrets were extremely filthy, their cage was full of feces on both sides of the cage HIGH!!It smelled of urine so bad, that I couldn't breath because the urine smelled like ammonia. I do t know how the cage full of ferrets tolerated it. Why were they not being looked after or cleaned up After? I came to this store, not only to buy a ferret, but because it got good reviews. SOMEONE started the Lies, and others Followed!!!! UPPER MANAGEMENT Needs to step in and take names, this was HORRIBLE & UNEXCEPTABLE!!!! Needless to say that I didn't buy Nothing fro. this store!!!

I have been coming here for quite a while for all my fish needs. I have never written a review until now. I was shopping for frozen fish food when I overheard a male worker doing a water change tell a customer that Betta fish do not require oxygen and can be kept in a vase/bowl. I just knew I had to step in because this customer was about to get a betta & throw it in a vase as the worker told her it was okay. This was mortifying to hear as bettas need oxygen, a heater, a filter and so much more care. I told the worker and he seemed to not care about the misinformation he was spreading. This is just disgusting at this point but what do you expect out of a chain store.

I placed an order yesterday for 6 items all to be picked up at the Petco store on 5450 Weslayan in Houston, Texas. Before I picked up my items, I received an email that 2 of the 6 items were out of stock and cancelled. When I showed up to pick up the 4 items this morning at the store, I saw one of the cancelled items in the store so I asked the store manager, MJ, that why he cancelled this item on my order when it was in stock. MJ never resolved the issue for me. This was so inconvenient that this store does not work effectively to fulfill my order and it was its mistake and also had no attitude to resolve the issue at all.

I come here to get my dog groomed. They always listen to what I want and anticipate my needs when I can't express them. It's very hard for me to tell a groomer how I want my dog clipped. I have this image in my head of what I want, but it's hard to express it in a way that is helpful to them. For example, telling them that I want my dog's hair "short" isn't very helpful to them because short is relative to someone's definition of short. Anyways, they are good at understanding what I am trying to say. One point is that they do take a while to do the grooming, but I think it's due to the amount of customers they serve.

I like this place, only problem us they have some dimwit person who keeps carrying food that my pets are used too. They used the silly reason that they want more organic. Really, the seed I had chosen for my parrots was organic and didnt carry the peanuts or sunflower seeds. Now I have to buy the one that has it wasting a lot of seeds. My parrots dont like the peanuts that come with it or the cheap sunflower seeds. I buy that separate for a reason. I heard the other day too, a lady frustrated that they stopped selling the dog food her dog has been on for years and loved it. I guess they have power trips too....

I needed some 5.5 gallons aquariums. I work at a competing pet store chain and we never have this size without purchasing the whole kit. I breed Thai guppies and prefer to buy the equipment separately to accommodate the small fry. The aquariums were very reasonably priced, and I will be back for more. The gentleman who helped me was very helpful and greeted me with a smile. He knew exactly what I wanted and brought me to it's location. I will shop here more often because of my experience in your store. I feel bad that I did not read his name badge because I hope to engage with him on my next visit.

The groomer was super nice and sweet. However, We discussed what I wanted which was a low trim because I like a little hair. My dog is half shih tsu so hair is nicer looking. He offered a teddy bear face and I agreed. Upon picking up my dog, all hair is gone and face is shaven down. He looked more like a terrier (which I dislike). I like more hair because I prefer fluffy dogs. I paid $81 tip included for a service I disliked. I am hesitant of going back to Petco because I’m not sure if I will continue to pay for something I could do myself which is take a pair of clippers and buzz cut my pet.

As with all pet supply stores, Petco welcomes shoppers' pets ... but goes beyond many others. Comfort stations inside the store with clean-up supplies handy are just an example. Shelves are generally well-stocked with items not always available elsewhere. Staff appear to be genuinely committed to customer service and to providing information or opinions when asked. This pet supply store is further from our residence, but we take the few extra minutes to drive a mile or two out of the way as an added assurance that items we need will be in stock.

I just took my dog to get groomed. He is a lab mix and he is shedding alot, so I got him the full bath and conditioner so he won't shed. they told me the process would take 3 hours, I came back in 3 hours and they told me he wasn't ready that he was being dryed. then I came back in 45min, the lady brought my dog soaking wet and he looked horrible. it looked as if they rushed to shower him in the last 45min and couldn't dry him or better yet didn't even try. this is my first and last time I take my dog to petco. PETSMART IS THE WAY TO GO!!!!!

I just left the store because the cashier was really rude. It would be less because of his attitude but the site won't let me. He had items in his hands that he threw on the floor when a customer went to the register, snatched the receipt from said customer and groaned as if he didn't want to be there. He then proceeded to call someone else up there so that he wouldn't have to deal with the customer. Definitely not returning to this location if the associates can't keep their work professional.

Love coming here, employees are always helpful and nice. If I ever have any returns, it's never an issue. Smooth sailing, only thing is I wish there were more sales. I do always end up coming back to get cat food and treats on occasion but they never really have sales. If they do, it's extremely minimal. Pet Smart gives better sales and incentives to shop at their store while Petco doesn't really have any price changing incentives. Overall, still a quality store but prices could be better.

They had the brand of cat food I needed and their selection is much better than I anticipated. I have a cat with CKD and needed a regular food that is low in phosphorus. And they had it. The store is clean, I did not specifically look at any animals or fish so can't fairly say yea or ney to their condition, care, but there were no off smells which is a good thing. This store has grooming but I dont think there are veterinary services at this location. Over all nice store for pet supplies.

Manager took the time to listen to my request and made all possible to help. Even though the product I was looking was discontinued, he keep trying to help in any possible way without being hesitant of me buying. He made great recommendations and told me that to try the new dog food and if the dogs did not like it to returned the open bag. Dogs loved the food and I am definitely a new Petco costumer. Well done Store Manager.

I was looking for a specific brand of dog food, they were out on the shelf. I asked for help from the cashier, who immediately called for help on the intercom. A young lady showed up within a couple of minutes and started checking Blackstock carts and the backroom. She said they had 4 bags on hand, she kept searching until she found the bags on display in front of the store. Great job, great customer service.

Love this store and especially the groomers. I have been using Terrance for both Tucker and now Louie which are Kerry Blue Terriers and require a certain style of grooming. Louie loves to go to Petco! The staff has always been helpful and courteous to me and my dogs. I am also working with a trainer at the River Oaks location and have been very pleased with the service there. The prices and service are five star.

I bring my dog here regularly to be groomed by Shanice. My dog is a shih tzu so her hair tends to require a lot of maintenance and I’m very picky with the styles. Shanice is patient with my dog who is very hyper and full of energy. She always has her looking and smelling good. The store is always clean, and the employees are friendly and helpful. I travel far and near for this location and will continue doing so

Rude staff. I was calling to confirm a product was available. I called 3 times, waited 10 minutes for someone to answer. When she finally answered, the product is not available (mice). She had no recommendation for another location. Stated "we don't know what our other stores have" and "I have no idea when the stock will be available". Very very rude! I think Tiffany or whatever her name is needs a hug.

the website worked smoothly, the store is close to me, I was notified VERY soon after ordering that it was ready for pickup, there was no line at pickup, and the staff was super friendly. he even apologized for initially saying that one of my items wasn't there but in fact it was -- I was completely cool with it either way, but he called himself out and apologized. super respectable!

I absolutely loved taking my dog here to Perla. She was amazing and treated my dog with so much care. He’s so nervous and hates strangers touching him but he had peace about getting shaved with Perla. There was an older gentleman there as well who gave great advice and also allowed me to stay and watch my dog at the window until I felt like he was fine. Great staff!

The times I’ve gone to this location the store has always been clean, well organized and the employees have been helpful. The layout of the store makes it easy to find what you need and get on your way. I’ve only purchased food and products for dogs, and the selection is always great. Only once has something I needed been out of stock and therefore unavailable.

Every time I come here I’m promptly greeted and have always received great customer service on the floor and at the registers. Today I brought my fur baby in for a trimming and Tenisha was her groomer. She was warm and friendly, knowledgable, and just overall had a great attitude. I’m glad I brought her in and that she was the one who attended her.

I went to 4 private training classes with Cara and she was amazing. She customized the class to the skills she thought my puppy needed most. Not only did she help train my puppy, she gave me many tips and examples of proper training that I found useful. I would definitely recommend booking classes with Cara. She was very kind and patient.

My visits are short. Short on time. But I have very much enjoyed my visits. I hope to visit and allow more time. We find what we need. My husband says the dogfood we buy is cheaper here than anywhere else. Excellent customer service. In Feb I found reduced Christmas dog toys. Great find. And I can find magazine PetTalk. It's a good read.

This location is my favorite. Most times I have questions about food, snacks, or something and they're so nice and ready to help me. All the cashiers I know there are very, very friendly. I know it sounds like oh wow what kind of review it’s this but nowadays it's very difficult to get friendly customer service. People are not as happy.

My order was due at my house YESTERDAY! Tracking information says it has not even been picked up by UPS and has been sitting at Petco for 6 days. Haylie did awesome w my 15 year old chihuahua "Cheech". I was turned down by others or charged too much. Terence (groomer) told me yesterday that they would try their best but also to not scare Cheech. I was so happy with the outcome today. Not only am I happy, my dog is as well! Thank you so much. We don't buy our pet supplies here, but sometimes I take my small kids here and use it like a free mini Zoo. They have a large variety of pets for sale and adoption, and my little ones get a real kick out of it. There is a fro yo spot in the shopping center, so it's a fun, cheap way to enjoy an hour with your kids.

I've been coming to this place for a while and I've always had good vibes from the staff. Cat is especially awesome and never disappoints with her service. I had some hiccups with their online booking before, but it seems they've fixed that now. All in all, a great spot with top-notch service. Highly recommend!

Finally found a groomer! My pup has high anxiety from being abused at the PetSmart on Shepard. So to find Terrance and Petco was absolutely a gift! The entire team is great, patient and gentle with dogs. My girl is still nervous and cries when she's dropped off but Terrance is so kind and gentle with her.

I shop for my cat here. Usually I'll buy litter and cat food. I buy their bulk litter as a refill as it's priced well, is decent clumping litter, and allows me to reuse the litter bucket. Their Whole Hearted brand cat food is priced nicely and is healthy (my boy really likes the wet chicken and pumpkin).

Thank you Petco for understanding that cats need a quiet adoption area and not small crates in the middle of everyone,which can be very stressful for them. Happy to see that today! Update: I wish you could be as thoughtful with the other animals, like ferrets and birds. Those cages are way too small.

Just your average pet supply store. They carry Merrick and Petsmart does not, which is the only reason I go here. That and they are located next to where I get massages. The people there are sometimes friendly and sometimes weird. But they are always a little slow away the cash register.

Weslyn Houston Terrance is an awesome groomer and he has a great staff! He can handle testy dogs. Staff is not anxious always more laid back seen it all temperment people. And I dont live in Houston anymore but I bring my testy male 9 yrs now to Terrance and staff no other groomers

I was not pleased with the amount I paid for the service however the service was great as always . I was charged an extra few per dog for supplies but didn’t smell anything on my dogs . In the past I paid $40-45 , I recently paid $66 which was not worth it for the same services.

Went there to buy a little parakeet only have like five to choose from and they were 40 bucks a pop but that was just a little too steep for a little bird and don't give you too much to choose from and no one offered you any kind of help first and last time ever going there

We visited this store to purchase a fish. While there were employees on the floor, no one was available to help us. We asked a young lady for assistance to purchase a fish. She said she'll get someone right there. Noone showed and we went to another location for a fish.

We’ve been here a few times, the staff here does a phenomenal job. They are super nice to the animals. Ms. Shaunise did a wonderful job. Very happy, definitely recommend! My little doggo was very happy while he was there. I saw him wagging his tail during the grooming.

I love this store. They have so many different and excellent brands available for my dog and my turtle. The store is always clean which is a plus. Also the people that work here are very kind and are extremely patient with the occasional argumentative customers.

I took my dog here to get a haircut and it looks absolutely horrible. Nothing is cut evenly, there are random bald spots on his body, and they didn't even trim his tail. I would highly recommend going literally anywhere else to do your dog grooming needs.

I like that Petco does 100% satisfaction guarantee on all products. This store is a lot smaller than other Petcos I have been to and it is not the easiest to get in and out of, but they do generally have the majority of what I am searching for in stock.

The grooming is the hest and very affordable. I bring my furbaby in regularly and they really take their time with him. He's so soft and smells so good when hes done, Myles, Ricky, and the entire staff are great! I cant see myself going anywhere else.

Probably the best dog grooming department I've ever gone to. We moved out of the neighborhood and still drive a half hour in to the city to get our three dogs groomed there. The rest of the store is great too. 5 stars.

Yours is a great store. In particular, this location has very friendly and helpful staff members. I can also easily find what I need for my little ones as the primary pet hooman. Great store, great people, great value.

Love this store! Everyone is always friendly and helpful. We got all of our ferrets from here, including the two we adopted. So anytime we need something we stop in and they have everything we need.

Good solid retail store for pets with good selection of all products. Good customer service. Not as fancy as some of the newer pet supply stores but a solid choice for all but ultra high end items.

Tried it for my large dog food as an alternative to PetSmart. Same selection but definitely at a higher price. I'm not thrilled with PetSmart either with their rolling prices on the same product.

Their Cat Market was great. Either I haven't looked hard enough or it is tough to find a good variety of items for cats. This Petco has a great variety of things for cats and kittens.

The collars and harness selection for dogs is mediocre. Good luck hunting down an employee to get assistance. I'd recommend driving a few more minutes and going to another location.

I come here every so often for a fresh supply of frisbees, raw hide bones and all natural beef treats. Their prices are great and the staff are helpful.
