I forgot about this goldsmith and jeweler in the city’s west end. I always go to Chinatown to get my goldsmith and jewelry work done, but it takes more than half an hour to get down there, so it’s nice that there’s a place not too far away. I needed to get my men’s jade ring sized, and had called ahead of time to find out the cost. Mr. Nhon Phung, the owner, quoted $20, which in my opinion was a great price, considering that other places, like Paris Jewelers, charged five times (!) that amount at $95-$125. I went to see Nhon on a cool drizzly September morning just before noon (September 24, 2018), after picking up my girlfriend’s little 8 year-old boy from school and dropping him off at his mom’s place for lunch. The boy had been acting bratty that morning, and just before I got him out of my car he defiantly kicked me in the groin which really hurt, so much so that I didn’t know if I’d be able to see Nhon that morning. Fortunately, it was only a five minute drive to his shop from the West Edmonton Mall area where my girlfriend lives with her child. When I got there, Nhon was very friendly and inviting despite the agonizing discomfort I was feeling . I was still in excruciating pain, yet Nhon diffused the situation with humor and a few chuckles after I told him what had happened. “The boy kicked you in the balls?,” he asked me, with a devilish smile on his face. Yes, after I tried to pull him out of my car,” I said. “You are a man. He is a boy. He know where to kick you!,” Nhon replied with a giggle. I couldn’t help but laugh along, even though I was still twitching uncomfortably in my seat! Nhon quickly put me at ease and got to the task at hand. Every time I moaned, Nhon would check if I was alright. “How’s your balls? You okay?,” he asked. I told him, “I’m okay. It’s just the kid kicked me really hard.” Nhon replied, “What a naughty little boy!” I shook my head and let out a big groan. Nhon couldn’t help but giggle. At least he was sympathetic and concerned, which shows you what a kind person he is. He then told me my ring would be ready in a few hours, and even though the jade in my ring was “bezel set”, which can be a challenge to work with when resizing, he assured me that it could be done with no harm to the stone. He said he would cover and protect the stone, to shield it from the heat as the ring was being resized. In addition to resizing my ring, I also asked Nhon if he could polish my men’s 18k gold bracelet. After two years of wearing it, it had become scuffed up with scratches and wasn’t that shiny anymore. Nhon took my bracelet to the back, and in less than 5 minutes he made it as shiny as the day I bought it! I was amazed at how nice it looked. I left my men’s ring with Nhon and went back that same day, five hours later at 4:30 pm. to pick it up. The ring fit perfectly on my right ring finger. I was very happy. In addition to getting my jade ring resized and my bracelet polished, I bought a Citizen men’s Ecco watch from Nhon. He gave me a good price on the watch. Overall, I was very satisfied with both the workmanship and great customer service at this store, and especially with Nhon. The guy is easygoing, considerate, and has a sense of humour. Although he was amused that I got “kicked in the balls” by a small child, he still showed genuine concern and kept asking me if I was alright. I will no doubt go back to him for my goldsmith and jewelry needs in the future.

My wife recently took several old rings ( with diamonds) into phung and asked him to design a new ring using the old stones. He did an absolutely fantastic job and she was estatic with the finished product. His prices are so reasonable as compared to larger stores. For any repairs or to get a unique ring , go to his store. You will be happy you did. He & his wonderful wife also have a selection of necklaces, etc in the store We will return again John & Dolores

Took my engagement ring in there had too go up 2 sizes he got to work right away had my ring back within a few hours can't even tell that he added more gold to it came back absolutely gorgeous and very shiny he's very friendly very knowledgeable and would absolutely recommend him to anybody also I couldn't believe how inexpensive he is.

Mr. Phung and his wife are very kind people and they care about their customers. My family and I have gotten numerous pieces cleaned and fixed by Mr. Phung and he always does a great job. I have been going to Phung for over 10 years , since he was in superstore. hes one of the best goldsmiths in the city . fast and knows his alloys. he also has a great reputation with other gold smiths and jeweler shops all over Alberta use him . if you can get him to work on your stuff , do it ......
