I took a few hours off to tour Pittock Mansion in December of 2023. This was part of their Christmas themed time so the rooms were dolled up with period-looking decorated trees, the living room, bedrooms, kitchen, music room, all of them made me feel like I could be on the set of Portland's echo of Downton Abbey. Your purchase gets you access; you're free to tour the mansion on your own. Each room has a brief historical display to put it in context, while you can see period pictures, including of the Pittock family, plus discussions of the construction and renovation of the house. Pittock Mansion was surprisingly easy to get to; because it's so popular, west Burnside Street has signs pointing the way. No frustrated bypassing of the turnoff. It's easy to pre-pay for your visit on their website, which gets you a QR Code and text confirmation in an email to show the greeter. At the lot, have a Parking Kitty account ahead of time so you just get your space, enter the Location Code right there in your car, pay for as long as you want to stay -I did All Day- it's only $8 so I didn't have to watch the clock. Have your selfie stick and friends with you. The rooms and the outside of Pittock Mansion provide many gorgeous backdrops for you to fill your phone and share online and with your friends. There's a small gift shop at the entrance where you can browse and buy remembrances and ornaments plus a selection of books, including one on the Columbus Day Storm that tore through Portland in October of 1962, downing trees on the Pittock property as well, as expected. One important word of warning: the access road is carriage-narrow, so expect to encounter-as I did- drivers coming at you in the middle of the street and way too fast. I just anchored it with one of these people coming uphill right at me. If you're prepared for it, you won't be surprised or risk over-reacting. Give yourself time to stroll the grounds as well, with the mansion you now know so well defining the scene.

I have always wanted to visit Pittock Mansion, and finally, I had the opportunity during my daughter's 4th-grade class field trip. What an incredible experience! It's hard to believe I've never been here in all the years I've lived here! So glad I came when it was all decked out for Christmas! Note: park in the pull outs up the driveway for free and hike up the road a tad to avoid the city's parking meter and minimal parking. You must use their parking kitty app or their meter, which was not working when we were there. Parking tickets are sky high if they issue you one for not paying so word to the wise! They do have an elevator, clean bathrooms, a gift shop, and a wonderful view of the city! The 16,000 Sq ft French Renaissance style home is characterized by its impressive architecture and 23 art- and antique-filled rooms, where you can learn about the fascinating success story of early Portland moguls Henry and Georgiana Pittock, instrumental in the city's development.

I used the local library's cultural pass to visit the Pittock Mansion. Huge kudos to the cultural pass and highly suggest investigating if your local library has that program to save yourself money. To be fair, I was hoping for opulence a la robber baron style for decor. I was disappointed. Everything seemed dingy and lackluster. To be fair, the place was clean and curated. It just felt sad. I visited on a rainy gray day when the views from the windows were limited. The cat portrait amused me and was the highlight of the house. I am told the mansion is decorated festively for the winter holidays and is worth experiencing then for the ambiance. The road to the mansion needs a refresh on paving.

A must see if you are visiting Portland, Oregon! I suggest hiking the Wildwood trail over to the Pittock mansion. It will give you a good sense of what the Oregon forests are like. And you only have to travel two miles to get there! Be sure to bring your camera, because the views from the Pittock mansion includes the beautiful city scape 1,000 feet up from the Portland skyline. It's the best view in town! And on clear days, you can marvel over the existential beauty of the Cascade Mountain! That's right folks! You get to see 5 different mountains from this view point! Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Mount Rainier, and Mount Jefferson!

Beautiful. The best views of Portland. We took the 20 bus from downtown Portland to the road entrance for the mansion, hiked up the road just over 1/2 mile (uphill, be prepared!), touted the mansion and grounds, walked to the entrance of the main trail leading to Washington park (Portland zoo, Japanese gardens, rose test gardens). It was an excellent hike through the rainforest, truly beautiful. We caught the free shuttle that runs through the park, saw the rose gardens and zoo, then it was a short walk to the entrance of the light rail yellow line back to Portland!

This place is so beautiful in and out. If you come here and don’t do the inside tour you’ll enjoy the surroundings just the same. The exterior and the landscaping not to mention the viewpoint of down town Portland are just amazing. There’s a trail as well if you want to go on a hike. There’s a gift shop and public restrooms. You’ll have to lay for parking and for the inside tour of the mansion. We enjoyed the tour and recommend doing it if your ever up here.

My friend took us here right before they were set to close to get a nice view of Portland at sunset. We arrived at the parking area at 8:50pm and the ranger told us that he closes the gate at 9pm. But he still let us go check out the view quickly and also look at the mansion. The mansion looks nice from the outside because we couldn't go inside. But the view from the backyard is priceless and was perfect at sunset. They have a decent amount of parking but I think it can get busy during the afternoon time.

I enjoyed the visit to Pittock Mansion. I was able to avail of the Cultural Passes through our local library and get two free adult tickets and one child ticket. I paid for one more adult ticket and it was an easy process on the website. The house is delightful and the views from there look to be beautiful. We visited on a very foggy/overcast day, so sadly did not have the greatest vista views, but I can see they would be great on a sunny day.

I was passing through in 2017, and remember visiting here after going to Powell's Books. I don't know the history of the area, but enjoyed walking through the mansion, and imagining what it would have been like to live and work here back then. Needless to say, given the location, Pittock Mansion has a great view overlooking Portland below and there are trails nearby to enjoy as well.

Views of downtown Portland are awesome from Pittock Mansion. There are no amenities here, so if you want a snack, bring your own. Found some of the staff pretty rude and clearly disinterested, not sure why they chose to work there. Not as large as I thought it would be. Not sure I would bother to make a return visit. Overall pretty blah despite all the hype.

Really nice mansion with a lot of information on the origins of Portland and history of the city. The furniture is more representative of the period than actually from the mansion itself. Tickets can be purchased at the door, there was no wait on a Saturday. Museum is paid, although you can walk the grounds and go to the viewpoint for free.

06/10/23: this awesome mansion is near the Witch’s Castle and it definitely is worth a visit. It has an outstanding horizon view of the city of Portland. I did not buy a ticket to get inside the mansion but I heard so many great things inside. Please consider buying a ticket to have a full experience. The mansion is well-maintained, clean, and spacious. I enjoyed the beautiful view and historical meaning of this mansion. Worth a visit!!

Although it’s free to view, the parking isn’t free but not too expensive as you can spend 30 minutes for just a dollar! I recommend walking around the mansion and seeing the overlook of Portland from the backyard! It’s definitely the best view of the city! I highly recommend visiting!

Beautiful house on top of the hill, love all the flowers along the way. On a sunny day, blue sky, green grass, colorful flowers - the view is just fabulous. Looking at the mountain and the city, probably one of the best places to visit in the area. The Christmas decorations are beautiful.

Great place to visit. Very interesting mansion and had a great view of Portland. You have to pay to park and then another fee to pay to go inside. Probably spend a good hour here. I don't think you need to pay if you just want to look around outside.

Love visiting this place in the fall. So beautiful. It's free to just walk around the mansion and explore nearby trails. I believe it said tickets cost about $13 per person... Can't remember exactly, as we did not go in for a tour.

It was nice to see the property and learn a bit about the history. The Christmas decorations were fun for my wife and the views are great. During December they have live music which was nice. We got lucky with parking. Worth a visit or two. We would like to come back in the Spring / Summer to see the foliage and flowers in full bloom. More

The self guided tour during Christmas is the best as the mansion is decorated for the season. I would plan for good weather to tour the grounds and view point, at the front of the property, as it is best on a clear day. We were lucky enough to see portland and down town. Allow about an hour to tour the mansion.

We took the tour with about a dozen other people. Our guide took us to the basement areas and the top floor and every place in between. The cost was very reasonable for the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour interesting.

Beautiful place to visit. It’s fun to read about the history of the mansion. You do have a pay for parking and then tickets to the mansion were $14.50 a person. They also have a gift shop. The view that overlooks Portland was really nice. The rooms are set up and some of the pieces are originals but some are not.

A fun look back in time to see how wealthy people lived back in the 1910s and 20s. Worth visiting at least once. They offer self-guided tours and you can arrange for a guide as well. You can use the Parking Kitty app yo park, but the number of spots is limited. Coming early and on weekends is better. More

It’s a cool place, and it would be an impressive restoration but the entire mansion is covered in tacky modern Christmas decorations, a lot of which block some of the coolest parts of the house. I don’t know what it’s like the rest of the year but definitely miss it during the Christmas season.

I had such a wonderful experience. The scenery behind the mansion is breathtaking, and inside is just as wonderful. It's amazing how they still had some of the original pieces and furniture. I find the staff helpful and answered my questions about the mansion.

This place was beautiful, you can come on a sunny or rainy day. I will say when we went it was busy, so depending on how busy the place is it can vary in time. One thing that sucks is you have to pay for parking and the parking lot is small. More

A gorgeous representation of early nineteen hundred opulence. I left feeling as though I had absorbed the Era into my phsycy. The views are breathtaking. We took a mile walk down the trails. Forest bathing at its finest.
