Questionable cross-cultural interpersonal skills. Good product knowledge. During a conversation with a member of their sales staff, my partner was asked where she was from. There was a lot of interest in the exact whereabouts, for whatever reason - before the staff member asked my partner how she says her name in her native language. After hearing this, and not understanding the surname, the staff member told her that she couldn't understand her because her 'accent was really thick'. Hearing that you've got a thick accent doesn't fit the bill of friendly or culturally accepting customer service. Especially after being lured into pronouncing your name in your native language. Luckily, there are quite a few other stores selling shoes in Hobart. The lack of understanding might have been caused by the nightclub-esque volume of the music in the store. In Tasmania, with its significant migrant population, it's hard to accept hurtful comments relating to linguistic differences in a customer-oriented business. We'll take our thick accents to a different store next time.
My kids and I came in maybe a week ago after a camping trip before heading back home to NSW. The young girl who helped us out was so helpful and she does her job so well. I believe her name was Hayley (Tall, brown hair, blue/green eyes, tanned). When she first approached us, she came with a warming smile and asked all of us how we were. Hayley really but in the effort to develop connections with my children and I by telling us her name, talking to my kids about school and their friends, asking me about work and what not. She even took the time to help my eldest (11) “keep up with the fashion” so she felt comfortable at school. At the end we were farewelled and my kids honestly didn’t want to leave her haha. All up, our platypus experience was great and we would definitely recommend visiting the store, and seeing Hayley especially :)
Terrible. After wearing a pair of shoes twice briefly which gave me bad blisters I took them back thinking it will be a simple case of an exchange of shoes. Nope. There ensued a farcical scene of stalling tactics, avoidance, no active listening as they had a well worn script ready, trying to sell me other products I couldn't take back and a general insult of my intelligence. I am now getting in touch with consumer rights, going to Drs today to get sick note for the week I can't work or ride my horses because of blisters, taking pictures of damage to feet, and taking platypus to small claims court if I can. For the record this will be the first time in my 50yrs of existence I will of had to go to these lengths. I quite frankly have better things to do than this. Do yourself a favour and don't go to that shop.
Very disappointed, I went in to the Hobart store this afternoon to purchase 2 pairs of shoes. I waited 5 minutes holding a shoe with no one approaching me and asking if i needed help. I then watched the 2 girls behind the count talking to themselves, a male finished serving someone and went and check himself out in the mirror, at this point i proceeded to walk out of the store and found another two staff members at the front of the store and only when i asked them if they worked there to, did they ask if they could help. Sorry but there were 5 staff members working and the store was not busy and no one offered to help. Very very pour service! I will not be returning to the store in the future.
Had the WORST experience ever.. there were two ladies working both were inside the reg area..was talking to some lady (may be someone they knew) I went there stood beside them to ask about the sizes they didn’t bother looking at me.. I called out and they went for the size check and I stood there while they still chatted with that lady..I was standing there like a fool.. finally the lady comes back to with a attitude and says we don’t have the size didn’t bother to say sorry or anything just that and went off… Felt worst
Managed to get the shoes I liked and was served by a really nice, hardworking lady. However, I had questions about the price and sales item - approached another lady who seemed like a more senior staff, since the lady who served me earlier was busy. The way she spoke to clarify the issue was very patronising & made comments like "if there was no price tag, don't make your own assumptions, you should have just asked us" - is that acceptable customer service ? If it is, it's really quite sad.
I returned here yesterday 6 months after a terrible experience. Happy to say the staff culture appears much improved. The young man serving me was very polite and thorough. He offered me a shoe horn and even checked my toe through the shoe! My only suggestion would be to display the prices somewhere or at least brief the staff on the price of the main displays so they don't have to spend time looking it up on the computer. Thanks for the positive experience and new shoes.
I walked in and out 3 times at different points of the morning- and was never acknowledged by staff. I do realise it’s Black Friday and everyone’s busy- but at one point the store was nearly empty and JR looking staff looked completely past me. One was too busy combing her fingers through her hair on floor to even look around to see me trying to get her attention.. made me feel invisible
Pretty much the only decent shop in Hobart to get kicks from. Decent selection of styles and colourways. Service can be a bit slack sometimes though. Had to laugh at the one star review from the customer with the blisters cause it ain't the stores fault if a shoe don't fit your wide foot. Should have tried it on before buying and know what your foot needs
Spent over 10 minutes in-store apparently not existing by the ignorant young staff. That's over $500 lost in a single sale due to poor service. I'd rehire if I were management. Won't be returning because of the appalling service, talking to friends is apparently more important! I had no idea this store was self serve!
Very minimal adidas orginals range, prices are also usually over and above for what you could buy from the UK even, including postage. Offer very little other than what Foot Locker have offered for the last decade, i.e Gazelle, Samba and Stan Smith. Would recommend J.D Sports or Sneakerboy anyday over this franchise.
Took my autistic stepson in to buy his first converse shoes and the lady, Myra, was so helpful in providing an inclusive environment for us. She turned the music down and made a little changing room for him and was great to deal with. Thank you for making it an easy experience for a kid who gets overwhelmed easily.
I stopped by on Sunday just to kill time as I was visiting for Dark Mofo. Even though the store was busy Myra ran back and forth taking care of me and the other customers as best she could. She was so helpful I ended up buying 2 pairs of shoes. Thanks Myra!
Bought a pair of shoes from the Hobart CBD store, didn’t know what I wanted, spoke with what felt like all the floor staff, they were all friendly and helpful, notably Thank you to Jaiden for bearing with me, top job mate, and I appreciate your assistance.
Deals are worthless. Staff are not attentive and if you’re lucky enough to find an attentive staff member, they’ll just tell you that what you’re searching for is unavailable or not in your size.
Bad service, a girl working there ignored me when I went to ask for a different size of shoes even though she wasn’t busy at all but she’d rather talk to another worker than help me
Bought a pair of shoes that were faulty(no fault to platypus). Super easy process to have the swapped over. No dramas. Thanks to all the staff at platypus!!! Would highly recommend
Didn't have what I wanted despite their website suggesting they did. Don't even stock the brand I was after. Kustom thongs people is where the action is.
Walked in, looked for about 10 minutes. No customer service. Walked out. I may be older than many costomers but my money is still of the same value.
no acknowledgement from staff As a previous Accent group employee, i know the service level and sad to see that it's not being upheld
Waiting for half an hour for service and staff were actively avoiding serving people. Ended up just walking out. Wont go back.
Kind staff, but most of the shoes are very poorly made. Not to mention music is played too loudly throughout the shop.
All staffs are polite. We were severd as soon as we entred the store. We got what we wanted quickly.
Ordered online they have great service will buy more shoes from these guys more often.
Much more range than the Northgate store worth the drive to the mall ☺️
Shoes are just great to look at whether or not you are buying shoes
Don't waste your time and money. Customer service is terrible.
Love this place friendly staff and yes I have a shoe addiction
Waited for service for ten minutes without being served.
