I love this park! Its close by, it hosts many events/celebrations, and provides a variety of activities for children and adults. The area is calm, pathways are clean, and the waste bins are situated in visible spots (both recycling and trash). This place is wonderful to exercise in (running, sprinting, etc.), play Pokemon Go, and its a safe place to walk your pet. During the winter you can go ice skating in the designated spot and they rent out skates if you need them. This park has also upgraded their playgrounds and although I miss the old ones, the new equipment is bright and exciting for the kids. There is a public pool close to the community center and its safe for children, so long as the parents are there to watch over their kids.

Laid an old friend to rest in the park recently. What a long strange trip it’s been. It had been a decade or more since I last saw Chuck Dogg until the night on the light rail platform in DT Mpls. It had been enough time that Chuck didn’t recognize me. OK maybe it was the night of the zombie pub crawl and I had makeup on my face. It took me a minute to convince him of who I was. He looked the same as I remembered. He was the same as I remember. We shared pleasantries and small talk and made plans to link up in the future. Sadly we never made good on those plans and now we won’t be able to. Sorry about that old friend. You’ll be missed.

We live just a few blocks away and this has been THE BEST park for us with a growing toddler. It has a bunch of different play areas targeting different activities and age ranges and the walk around the pond/lake is a really reasonable distance around for a quick bit of activity. We love that it's got lots of areas of open grass, too, for picnics or just letting our 16 month old run around. It's also right around the corner from Mayday Cafe, which is such a cozy and wonderful neighborhood spot that always has a nice selection of baked goods and food we can grab for snacks.

A much loved park nestled within the Powderhorn neighborhood. This park seems to almost be the lifeblood of this neighborhood. It’s as if it’s everyone’s backyard and front porch where neighbors come to walk, talk, stroll, exercise, play with their children and walk their dogs. The park has beautiful rolling topography, a sweet lake with a concrete walking path that encircles the entire lake, a really cool splash pad, small wading pool, several nice playground, ball fields a and a small stage. The park is many acres and interspersed with lots of old trees. A lovely place.

Our neighborhood park is a gem in the city. There are several jungle gyms spread around the lake geared toward different age groups. There are fields for sports. The recreation building has a basketball gym and offers classes year round for tumbling, dance and my personal favorite - ceramics. The zero depth entry pool has water spouts and a mushroom falls (there is NO shade for the pool though... so bring sun screen). We bring our children here daily during the summer and meet our neighbors and make new friends all the time. A wonderful community gathering spot.

This park is great - I play pick up soccer and frisbee here, there's the amazing May Day parade - during COVID-19 distancing yourself from others is critical and there is TONS of space to pair off or host a small circle of friends. For me the kicker is the tennis courts - they're well maintained, there's 4 of them, so most anytime you'll be guaranteed a court immediately or with a short wait. The only issue with the tennis courts is that the high school nearby uses them after school during tennis season... good luck landing a court then...

This is such a nice and peaceful Park. I typically walk here anywhere from 1 to even four times a week even though I live two miles away. It's well worth the distance, and if you're on a walk anyway what's the big deal? Nearly every time I am here it is uncrowded and people are very respectful and friendly. You'll often see people walking their dogs or playing fetch. All the dogs are very friendly that I have run into here. There is a lot of waterfowl such as ducks and geese that fly in and out of the lake it's enjoyable.

There are a handful of parks in the TC with really unique atmospheres and narratives. Powderhorn Park is one of them. Look no further than the Mayday Parade to see the kind of vibrant community this space invites. There are plenty of benches, hills to challenge you if you want, gentle slopes to guide you if you don't. There are broad fields and basketball courts for sports. There's a humble parking lot, and plenty of on street parking if you can walk a bit. This is a good park. You should go here.

Beloved, well maintained park with mini lake. Shady and sunny areas. Great for short to medium walks, picnics/cookouts, biking with kids. Lots of city- and parkboard-sponsored activities. 2 big playgrounds that are very nice, and I think a smaller 3rd one. This is the home, for 44 years now, of In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater's May Day Festival (including the pageant), which has become one of the very finest things about Minneapolis. It is on the first Sunday in May every year.

  • Joseph Davis (Captain Jose' Dirte')

This is one of my favorite urban parks I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. It's sloping hills are great for tobongi... It's summertime movies in the park... A park board tradition plus 4th of July fireworks... And other programming including the finale spot for the May Day parade... Nice cool waters offer great swimming... Plus good crappie fishing... Without the disturbing crowds that inhabit the lakes of Uptown provide for me a more serene setting to nap and enjoy long summer days...

  • Clif W

Love the park, we were at the play area where there were lots of kids in the pool and small groups of teenagers having a good time with what look like classmates from the past year. A few older people walking or strolling around the park area and guys playing ball on the court years and there was the ice cream guy, racking up bucket at the pool area. Sorry videos will not download to this posting .. You'll just have to go and enjoy as my granddaughter and I..

  • Caitlin

This is one of the best, and biggest, parks in the city. It's in the heart of hippy South Mpls, has newly renovated playgrounds, a kiddie pool, baseball & soccer fields, areas & grills to BBQ, volleyball nets and a lot of area to just walk, jog or bike around in. The pond in the middle turns into an ice skating rink during the winter and the hill on the east side turns into an outdoor movie theater in the summer.

  • christina marie Johnson

For a small park it has a lot to offer. There is a path around the small lake to walk around. There is also a baseball diamond. And even an area for children to play in the summer like a splash pad and there is a playground. There are also Biffs for you to use the restroom. Small parking lot on site but plenty of parking on the streets. Expect to walk a few blocks if there is a big event going on at Powderhorn.

  • Tazz Films

We go almost every day. Love the playground and kiddie pool. Lots of friends have been made here.
Playground
The old playset in the southeast corner is best for 3 and up. The newer playset on the Eastside is accessible for babies 1 and up.
Restrooms
The porta potties are gross most of the time and the building restrooms aren't open until 10am or the staff comes to open them.

  • Chris Huff-Hanson

Poowderhorn Park reflects well the diversity of the neighborhood it's located in. Lot's of picnic and grilling opportunities. Great hills for sledding or working out. A very active park building with a gym that supports various youth leagues, pottery studio, drumming classes, community events. It also has 3 playgrounds and a swimming pool. Nice path around the lake with lots of wildlife.

  • jenny thoennes

One of my favorite parks in Mpls. Great playgrounds! (Yes, plural. If you walk around the park there are 3 different playground sections. One with a pool.) It's a big park with lots of old trees. It's a big enough space to go for a scenic stroll and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Plus, they have a community center that offers pottery classes and other activities.

  • Tiara Brown

By far my favorite park in the cities. Great neighborhood park. It may not be as big or bougie as other places, but it's unique. Perfect size. Lots of cute dogs. Multiple levels. Multi-cultural and otherwise diverse. Friendky people. Usually not too crowded - even on good days. If you drive instead of walk here, there is always free street parking available.

  • Nance B.

I love this park....walking by myself or with my tiny boxer. So many great things here. Their rec center has a ceramic room still trying to get registered for classes. Theres zumba free in the park. Fishing and soccer. But I enjoy the Empty Bowls event in November and the art sled in winter. The Mayday celebration is fun for everyone. Come have a look-see.

  • Michael Freeman

Eagles and hawks need I say more! One of the best kept secrets in my neighborhood. All the different events that happened at this place the great start to the spring where the MayDay Parade ends. Art festivals and neighborhood Sports a super clean Park with tons of space to hang out in the shade. Here's a couple pictures of snowshoeing in the winter time.

  • Luke Ferguson

Big, beautiful, grassy, classic Minneapolis park. One of my favorites throughout the entire city, there's enough space for baseball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, or your game of choice. There's a park building, small parking lot and plenty of street parking around the permiter. There's a mile or more of paths within the park. Definitely worth a visit!

  • Travis Howard

What a quaint little green area right in the middle of the city. There are parts of the park where you might believe you were out in the wilderness were it not for the traffic noise. They should manage the lake a little better. It looks like it has an algae and snail problem, and the water has flooded the fishing pier. It's a bit disgusting.

  • Matthew H.

This is such a beautiful park and such a meaningful part of this neighborhood. I have lived in this area And even though I'm somewhere else now, I still come back here for the beautiful green grass and the water and the people. Parks like this are what make Minneapolis special. It's a great place to hang out or to exercise.

  • James Broom Schweitzer

They’ve made some really great updates to all 3 of the playgrounds throughout the park. It’s a good sized park for a walk, short run, or just taking in the good old outdoors. Close to cozy coffee and tasty restaurants and it doesn’t get overwhelmingly busy aside from event days - May Day parade, powderhorn art fair, etc

  • JRob Zetelumen

The May Day celebration is legendary. I loved it so much that I bought a house nearby just to be a part of such a diverse and artistic community. It's also one of the most densely Pagan areas of the cities. The park is a popular place for rituals for Pagans, but popular for walking and playing for everyone else

  • Rasikanand Harvind

Family friendly park. Great facilities, easily accessible and good amount of parking. They have events occasionally in the amphitheater area. Went to the fire dancing show recently. Surprisingly not too many bugs. Place is clean and the people who visit are super nice. I really like walking around here.

  • A C

Great park but playgrounds are neglected. Missing safety rails and graffiti on everything. Crime as of early 2016 seems to be on rise. Gang tags on sidewalks. Park is well used. Fields always have something happening. Park building is great asset and always something for kids to do. Staff is wonderful.

  • Jamal Adam

Volunteered for the annual MLK Day Service and it was amazing. The people are absolutely wonderful, food was delicious, and the vibe was heartwarming and welcoming. There is nothing like an event that brings the community together and Powderhorn does it so well thanks to the great staff.

  • Jeffrey Hartfiel

The park itself was very nice. Went to the Mayday parade had a good time. Parking was one the hardest things to find. Did try food at Mayday. Meat was cold. Kind of disappointing. But overall good experience. Might be going back to park later this summer to have a picnic with friends.

  • Kimberly Bell

The community comes alive in this park. It is never empty, full of life, especially in the summer. Baseball, soccer and basketball games, new wading pool and playground equipment. Community center offers free Zumba and Yoga classes, among other services. A truly community-run park.

  • Alli Tripp

Yesterday was the great spring festival of Mayday, a parade and celebration performance in the park the first Sunday in May, well worth the effort to get there and see the amazing puppets dancers & musicians! Lots of food trucks and community for the first day of MN Spring!

  • Jer R

My wife and I had a casual stroll here on a Sunday and it was relatively empty except for maybe 15 people scattered about. Good place to chill n hang out, plus they have baseball feilds, a large pond (or small lake?) You can paddle a canoe around in, and lots of benches.

  • Ng'ang'a Muchiri

large, spacious, well-kept. Had our wedding ceremony - quick and simple - at the gazebo overlooking the lake. Lucky for us the State Fair was on so the park was mostly empty. Def worth spending an afternoon picnic or simply lying on the grass with a good read!

  • Jonas Goonface

This park is spacious scenic and nice. It's also shelter for many of the cities unhoused folks who've been weathing crisis after crisis over the last few months. Housing is a human right, but until that's realized you really couldn't ask for a nicer park.

  • Dionne Hollins

My favorite park. Post pandemic experience has been a true treat. Various activities. Very clean sanitary splash pad. My nine year old loves it. We easily send hours enjoying the summer program. Any child aged 18 and younger can receive lunch at 4:30 pm.

  • Mike D

Great place. Multiple parks for children. Beautiful lake with lots of places to grill or picnic. Also baseball diamonds, soccer fields and basketball court. Huge place with lots to do. A lot of events/festivities held here. Love living next to this park!

The annual Art Fair at Powderhorn Park should be added to your to do list. Located in Minneapolis the neighborhood beside the park is an interesting mix of cultures and lifestyles. There was a good selection of food available at this years Art Fair.

  • Cheryl W.

Stopped by Powderhorn park to sit and think of a good friend. Jesse and I would get some dairy queen and come sit enjoying each others company. We would bring board games or just people watch. The park is a peaceful setting to embrace the momentm

Nice park in the middle of the Powderhorn neighborhood. There are two playgrounds, a community center, 3 softball fields, a soccer field, plenty of open space, and an outdoor concert platform. Great for sledding in the winter.

This park is awesome. I'm from Salt Lake, and this is the size of some of our biggest (in city) parks. It was beautiful, and made for a great picnic. Four stars only because a few of the homeless camps were kind of trashy.
