Prairie Mill is honestly phenomenal! I have been a loyal customer ever since discovering this bakery early last year. To begin, they have an endless variety of breads to try: sourdough, cinnamon raisin, corn millet, muesli whole wheat, honey white, and the list goes on. Truly artisanal baking and unparalleled quality. Not only that, but they truly care about their customers and will treat you like family once you walk into the door. Tracy in particular is a genuinely warm person who is highly knowledgeable about her products and always willing to assist you. If you haven't stopped by this wonderful bakery, you must do so! Thank you Prairie Mill!
Every Bread is fantastic! So many delicious and unique selections all obviously made very well and with high quality ingredients. You can taste the difference unlike most bakeries I've tried. They also have very good and accommodating service! a couple times I came and the bread I wanted was sold out. The nice lady gave me what was left of their sample bread for free and told me that customers can reserve bread as well. You can tell when a business cares about their quality and their customers. In my opinion, this bakery is worth driving all across town for their selections and daily featured breads! I have yet to be disappointed.
Something interesting about this place: they have bread samples. This struck me as odd, as I’m not usually one to eat plain I toasted bread. The bread was alright, but nothing exceptional. Is it worth the $10 per loaf? Probably not, although they do have some interesting flavours I would like to try, just not buy an entire loaf. They had a small selection of sweets, such as cinnamon rolls and cookies, but I would not recommend either, as they were dry and overly sweet. The cinnamon roll more so resembled a giant rolled up bread crust covered in cinnamon sugar syrup and raisins, not exactly your typical fluffy cinnamon roll.
I was walking by this bakery and my eyes were drawn through the window at a cinnamon bun that I just had to have. Once I got inside, I was compelled to also buy a Banana Bread, which was so dense and yummy it only lasted 3 days before I ate the whole thing. I got a pizza bun, which ended up being my lunch and it was amazing. And I got a yummy cookie, which I ate on the walk home. And as for the cinnamon bun...it is in my top 3 cinnamon buns of all time. This place isn't close to me, but I'd gladly make the hour and a half walk to grab more goodies.
We went to this bakery to get some bread. We asked about the "9 grain multigrain." She didn't know what the 9 grains were. We said "does this contain buckwheat" because our son is allergic (anaphylactic) to buckwheat. To which she replied "no." Thankfully, my wife found another loaf with ingredients right there which listed buckwheat. Had we taken it home, we would have had a hospital visit! The ONLY response to questions like this is: "I don't know" or "let's check the ingredient list." We are not going back.
I absolutely love this place. This is one of the best local businesses to support in NW Calgary. Whenever we go here, the customer service is phenomenal. There is one blonde lady who is especially amazing and makes you feel so welcome. The bread itself is awesome. They are made with all local ingredients and are absolutely delicious. Their breads are also dense which makes them perfect for sandwiches. Their baked goods are also delicious. I would highly recommend going out of your way to visit here.
This is one of the best bakeries in town and last time my partner and I were there was before the pandemic. We were ecstatic to see it is still standing strong. We had to buy the Yukon sourdough which was 2lb and a multigrain bread. After one day, I’m happy to report the bread is almost gone. It is dense and heavier than your average bread from supermarket. Please support this local bakery, visit, buy some bread or cinnamon bun, you will never disappoint! Can’t wait to visit again!!!
I was walking by after my first day student teaching in the area and just happened to see the bakery, figured I’d pop in on my way home. The lady was so nice and welcoming, I ended up getting the pizza rolls, cinnamon, and the blueberry ones. I couldn’t stay out of them and it’s been an hour and I’m stuffed. This place is dangerous in all the best ways. Great customer service and delicious treats, excited to go back and try more.
I visited this bakery last week. I have been scouting for a local bakery after moving to NW. This is it.. Bought their 9 grain loaf and it is so good.. so filling as well as delicious. My son loves it❤️ Also, their service. When I bought a chocolate croissant for my son, she gave me one for me with no additional cost, and it was super delicious. I can't wait to go back to try their other types of bread and pastries.
Visited the bakery on a whim while visiting Calgary. I had read the great reviews, so I was excited to try it out. We got a rosemary and garlic sourdough..wow. it was delicious. We also grabbed some cookies, chocolate and oatmeal, that were just perfect and huge! Definitely going again next time we are in Calgary. Great bread and pastries, with amazing and generous service. Can't wait to go back!
I am a regular customer at the prairie mill bakery at north mount NW, Calgary. Tracy is a wonderful person. Recently I found that the spelt bread is very salty. I looked at the nutritional facts on the bread package and found that they increased the salt content from95mg to 270 mg (for portion size 50 mg). Hope they will make the bread less salty, as too much salt hurts the stomach.
The lady who helped us was incredibly kind and friendly. Worth going back just for the service alone! The food there was delicious! A definite step up from a grocery store or a coffee shop. I got all the buns and loved everyone! Though the best item I tried was the double chocolate cookie. There was some unique taste in it that I couldn't quite place but was almost addicting.
Very dissatisfied with the service today. The young girl at cash was completely disinterested in her job. While choose a loaf of bread, I commented that I didn't know what to try, no response. She was more interested in picking the polish off her nails and checking her phone than helping a customet
When I walked into the bakery, I was greeted with the aroma of freshly baked bread and exceptional service. Tracy gave suggestions and provided helpful descriptions of the different types of pastries, snacks, and breads in the store. Exceptional service. Highly recommended! 감사합니다 트레이시 사장님!!
I am gluten sensitive and the baker gave me a loaf of whole grain brain made with organic Canadian wheat. He promised I would not have a reaction to it as it is very low in gluten and - he was right!! On top of that, it was delicious. I am now a regular customer.
How does this place have a 4 7 rating. I just called because it came up on my phone as the closest highest rated place. Phoned talked to done kid who clearly didnt even care. All I asked was do they do any specialty items besides bread.
Tried this place for the first time today, and I absolutely love the honey white bread. So many to choose from. Can't wait to come by again in the future. The high quality ingredients make a huge difference and are excellent for sure.
Great hometown bread makes it feel like you are back home on the countryside! The owner is very nice too! Id recommend getting your bread from here instead of a big wholesaler like safeway. Quality is 10 times better!
I will never walk in nor, God forbid, shop in this place again. I wouldn't want to trouble the lady who works there, asking her to hand me a hot bun. Apparently, it gives her a reason to be unpleasant to the costumer.
Sadly, the 9 Grain sliced bread is not good. I bought this loaf at a premium price at a farmer’s market and was really looking forward to it. It is very tasteless, did not toast well at all, I would not recommend it.
Yukon sourdough is the best I've ever had. I'm extremely sensitive to additives and this was the only flour/salt/water/starter bread I could find. No bloating and only happiness after eating. Thank you.
I will probably regret posting this review I finally got to the store early enough that they had full shelves the wonderful lady who works their recommended the Stollen loaf it was amazing best ever !
Best bread in the city. They make fresh sourdough bread taste very good. They even have multigrain sourdough a must-try. They have good selection of breads you can check online. Everyday is different.
First off, Tracy's customer service is unreal and unparalleled. Second, this is the only place where I can get bread that tastes and feels like the stuff my mom used to make. Exceptional bakery!
Pro tip: get their awesome cinnamon bun, let it dry out a little over night. Make French toast with it in the morning with 2 eggs and classic egg nog for batter. You can thank me later.
So welcoming, with a wonderful variety of savory and sweet breads, along with bagels, croissants, pies and more. Everything I bought was delicious! Plus there's a loaf loyalty program.
So nice! Their bread is delicious and their baked goods are prime! Baked fresh daily and it’s small and community based so go support this local small business if you’re in the area!
To my mind, one of the gems of city with probably the best banana bread you have ever tried or yet to try. Everyone I have given one to has agreed and they have become customers.
So friendly! They have great samples and the bread is delicious. They have a nice stamp system for free loaves and the sampling was really generous! Definitely coming back.
Phenomenal bread and customer service. I love the honey white bread and the chocolate chip cookies. But the true joy of Prairie Mill Bread is Tracy, she is incredible!
Just bought a loaf of sourdough and it was without doubt the best bread I’ve purchased in Calgary. Defiantly going back to try more types of bread. Highly recommend.
Best bread in Calgary! We’ll drive across town to get it. Honey White and Ancient Grain are staples in our home. Thanks for all the deliciousness.
Great bread. I have a soy allergy cannot eat anything found in stores. So this place allows me to have bread!
Favorite bakery in Calgary. Their breads also freeze very well, so I always pick up several every time I go.
Best Choco Banana bread and Apple pie in City!! They use good ingredient too. Never disappointment for sure.
Unique and excellent breads. Proud that Calgary has local artisans / business owners of this calibre.
Always a deelishus spot to pick up sourdough and, for today, a Parmesan and garlic loaf… NOM!
Love their banana bread and cookies! The lady works there is super kind and lovely.
Got a spelt bread that tastes like bleach.
Great product & service. Worth the drive.
