"UPDATE"
I was a member at a Pure Gym in Manchester before moving to Greenwich. The Manchester gym was bearable, even just about in peak times, and initially I didn't think the Greenwich gym could be any less so. I was wrong. This is a relatively small gym which caters to a huge area, including some of the more impoverished areas of London. The relatively low cost would certainly be the most appealing feature to a large amount of people looking to join the gym here. However, it is a small gym in relation to this customer base and therefore becomes massively overcrowded during peak times. I would say a large majority of the clientele at this gym are men who want to do free weight training, however the free weights room is tiny, with only 2 power stations (which combine the separate squat rack, bench press and deadlift areas of most other gyms and are therefore always busy and backlogged with people) and 4 or 5 benches. The floor area is also very cramped, so it gets quite cosy in there and can get unbearably hot and smelly. The resistance machines such as the 8-way, lat pulldowns and rowing machines are missing vital pieces, such as snap hooks and handles. This can create a long wait even in the less busy times to use the machines. It's sometimes like a game of hide and seek trying to find every attachment and accessory you need, when they should all just remain in one place. I even resorted to buying my own snap hooks out of frustration as I got so tired of hunting around for them. I got 5 of them for £3. Which begs the question as to why the management hasn't just replaced the missing ones yet (I did submit several written requests, but they were never acted upon). I've had experience with similar 'budget' gyms abroad, including McFit in Germany, which is cheaper and way more organised than Pure Gym, without the long waits and the missing equipment. I have expectations, even from a budget gym, and these just aren't being met by Pure; often I feel my gym visits are counterproductive to my goals because I haven't had time to do everything or have had to skip exercises due to missing or busy equipment. Therefore I'll be cancelling my membership and moving to a more expensive, but hopefully way less stressful gym. If you want a cheap gym, feel free to try it (best feature is that you can cancel at any time). However if you're serious about your gym experience, and I'd say especially if you want to use free weights and weight machines, you might want to explore other options.
I just happily left Pure Gym after roughly 6 months of membership. The move was long overdue. The equipment at Pure Gym is clean and reliable, and the gym itself is outfitted with everything one would need to have a good workout. That said, the gym suffers from poor management, serious overcrowding, a misuse of floor space, and members who don't adhere to gym policy. The gym becomes far, far too overcrowded during peak times -- so much so that it makes finding reasonable space to exercise near impossible. I've belonged to over a dozen gyms in my life, and I've never seen the type of overcrowding I experienced at Pure. For example, no true bench press and only two squat racks mean that queues to use the "power movement" equipment frequently exceed five to ten minutes. Quite simply, there are too many members. At 26 quid/month demand is understandably high, but the gym isn't investing properly to adjust its supply or otherwise meet the demand. Membership fees are low because Pure keeps costs low -- particularly staffing costs. After 9pm staff are not present to monitor the floor, which nightly turns into a disaster (not a hyperbole) -- weights strewn all over the place, weights not re-racked, non-members entering on their friends' codes, weights being dropped, and a general loss of any "gym etiquette." Perhaps management would be wise to implement some kind of induction, during which policies (and adherence to them) are communicated to members from the get-go. Otherwise, the staff needs to do something to ensure basic policies are followed. So, during peak times, it's everyone for him/herself when it comes to finding an unused piece of equipment. During late evenings, it's everyone for him/herself when it comes to not tripping over the countless weights other members have thrown all over the floor. Personally I would never consider joining Pure Gym again. Good luck.
I'm a huge fan of this gym facilities and since the upgrades I would say it's even better. However there's still a couple of glaring issues that prevent it from being at a higher standard: -Messiness - Multiple signs all over the gym but it's become ridiculous in the evenings as if people don't fear being reprimanded. Weights all over the place. Water bottles etc.. -Customer service/Staff - Appalling to put it mildly. There's a tall Caribbean gentleman who is absolutely amazing and a credit to the gym. Always says hello and asks how I'm doing. There's also another lady named Bella who needs to be given a raise because I've heard other female members mention how it's nice to have a friendly, helpful female member of staff. As for the rest, it seems outside of their PT clients their customer service skills go out the window. I think the most infuriating moment for me was a recent trip to the gym resulted in me being kicked out of the functional area in the middle of my workout as the class was a priority. They weren't using the weight racks it seemed but I was still told to leave. The rest of the gym was busy as it was a peak period and there was no where else for me to continue squatting and I was put off the rest of my workout. The gym seems to be overrun with PT at the moment who give priority to the clients and make the rest of the paying members feel inferior. It's disgusting and needs to be addressed. Having worked in customer service retail role before I know dealing with the general public can be a chore at times but my goodness leave your sourness at home. It's already daunting enough for the average person to commit to coming to the gym. It's unfair to walk in to see staff who seem to act bothered when you ask a question or who only seem to be cliquey or friendly with their clients or other members of staff.
I had my membership randomly suspended without even knowing why. I only used this membership 3 times as i only started a month ago. Before that i was using Easygym when i never had any issues. Unfortunately due to a relocation, i had to cancel my Easygym membership and found another affordable one close to my new place (surrey quays) I found the Pure gym Lewisham being affordable, although 30min away from my house by walk. I also liked the fact it was 24/7. Returning to my story, after my 30min walk in the cold to reach the gym around 10pm, i receive a random message from Puregym saying that my membership was suspended, with no apparent reason. This was so frustrating after that long walk, especially with no prior warning or explanation why. Last time i managed to get in i saw a post written on the gym board boasting about the amount of clients that have been suspended this week only (it was written "11 and counting",I found this really shocking and unprofessional). The main reason was something as silly as people not putting the weight back, or putting it in the wrong place (personally if one client was not doing so, I would think the most customer friendly approach would be to approach him and discuss it with him) I was really surprised by this post but never thought this would happen to me!(i always put my weight back so i wonder what the reason was) Trying to call customer service, the number provided charges you extra to talk to them, giving you no other alternative. I found this way of operating being really cowardly, as no warning or explanation where given.Needless to say that i decided to cancel my membership and have already another gym to exercise at. I would recommend someone from Puregym HQ to investigate this issue before losing more and more customers.
UPDATE. I've now been here for 2 years and much has improved. Things are generally clean and there's vastly more weights equipment nowadays with a large dedicated area. The only real issue now is that the weights area is so damn untidy with the plates, bars, dumbbells and barbells everywhere. It's like a bomb hit it by morning. They keep trying to improve this and do ban some members, but nothing seems to work. The rest of my review below still stands. --- I've been a member for 2-3 months and my experience so far has been the opposite of Chris'. I'd not have bothered writing a review but what he said seemed unfair so I felt I had to balance things up. For me the staff - especially the morning crew - have always been friendly and say hello every time. The place is tidy and clean, the showers and lockers are plentiful, and the security is good. The gym has a huge number of members already but still they manage to keep on top of equipment repairs and things are rarely out of action for more than a week. The only real criticism I'd give is that the free weights and racks are stocked to a minimal level - versus the huge array of cardio and weights *machines* - which basically guarantees you can't use them at peak times. Regarding the staff being sales people... well, yes I suspect that *is* part of their job. But I didn't find them pushy and at £25 pcm or thereabouts the place pretty much sells itself. That and there's no other decent gyms for miles around ;)
Its a cheap gym and you go in knowing there will be some concessions as a result. You can get used to bringing your own towel and shower gel, working with silly showers that run off a timer that lasts only 10 seconds at a time and where you cant adjust the temperature! - but no matter what the price, I expect equipment to be in good condition and maintained regularly, PT's and instructors that enjoy what they do, are professional, knowledgeable and helpful and for the gym to have a good level of cleanliness. I also want to be able to book classes or use the gym equipment without it being a big hassle. Unfortunately you DONT get this. Equipment is always broken. At least half the spin bikes are always faulty. Some instructors are great but many give the impression they would rather be somewhere else. Often the instruction or advice you get from one instructor or PT will be completely contradictory from what another PT will tell you. No consistency and you have to question how knowledgeable some of the PT's really are and if they do in fact know what they are doing. Having to wait up until midnight to book a class is also a hassle, especially if you have to get up early in the morning for work. Getting some space during peak time on the gym floor can also be a hassle. Its a shame as I think it could be a good gym, unfortunately at the moment, in my opinion, its not and I would rather pay a bit more and just get the basics right somewhere else
Good points: ------------------ * Open 24/7 * Good value for money * Clean, including showers and changing rooms * Enough room in changing rooms * Good selection of equipment * Good location * Never feels too overcrowded Bad points ---------------- * If driving - nowhere to park. Parking wardens now randomly patrol area * System for booking classes is not user friendly - you have to wait up till midnight to book a place. Sometimes you wait up till midnight to book and system doesnt update at all - really really frustrating! * Lots of no shows at classes and absolutely no management follow up * No aircon in spin class, only 9 bikes and bikes always faulty. * Timetable for classes is limited, especially in evenings and instructors dont change music or routines much - it can get boring and unmotivating * You cant self adjust the temperature of showers - they are way too hot in summer, and freezing in winter * A few good instructors, but equally a few who could do with a bit more knowledge and a refresher in what it is to motivate their class. * Doing a class? Forgot water and left wallet at home? Sorry you will have to go to the complete other side of the gym to get a swig of water. There is no water supply near where classes are held, only a station for filling water bottles.
So i was a member of this gym since it opened but left not too long ago. The most appealing thing?....the price and that's it. The space is small and always overcrowded. The smell in the men's changing rooms is unbearable ITS DIRTY AND NOT CLEAN. The showers last 10 seconds (who washes in 10 seconds) . Then add the fact that its a nightmare to use anything (other than a treadmill) . The other members are rude and my partner and I have even been threatened and squared up too because we wanted to use a machine and one man thought this was his own personal gym and could claim 6 machines at once for his bulking regime. Ive also had people n the free weights area pressure me to finish with one set of weights while they have 4 or 5 again to complete there own weight training programme.....since when was this their gym? there is just a horrible atmosphere a lack of space for stretching etc...its grim to say the least. Staff do nothing about the members disrespect for the gym either. Ive grown up in impoverished parts of London on council estates so i know hood when i see it and this is ratchet hood at its finest! avoid at all cost pay the extra 20 quid and go somewhere nicer thats what I say! Pure Gym if your reading this...sort it out mate!
I have only just joined this gym as I have started a new job in the area. I am a Personal Trainer myself so I know what I look for in a gym. Firstly I might add that the equipment in this gym is great and there are in my opinion the correct number of stations and areas to train in however, and here is my reason for leaving, the gym is overcrowded to say the very least. I was in the gym at 9pm and could not get on any equipment and I mean NONE. I approached a member of staff who was more interested in going home but did say that I should try coming outside of Peak hour. What?? 9pm!! I asked him what 'Peak' hour was...his reply was anytime after 9am and 9pm. So in other words the gym is overcrowded PERIOD. I asked him if the management cap the amount of members joining he said 'No' I said 'well there lies your problem. He then went on to tell me that it isn't a problem and I am the only person that has complained. I knew this wasn't the case and the reviews I have read on here back that up. I have now left and looking for another gym in the area. I don't mind paying more so I can actually train. If you are thinking of joining this gym to train and not just stand about chatting to friends then I would seriously reconsider. Best of luck.
The timing of a class is exactly when people finish work so I made an effort to leave work earlier but was slightly late to the class. The instructor was tight and gave no leeway. Now before anyone mentions the policy about missing warm up. PureGym has that as a failsafe policy for injuries and also not all instructors follow this disciplinarian policy. I ensured the instructor that I had rushed here by bike and I was warmed up. To no avail. Fine, I understand it's their discretion. The policy could also be a more flexible that informs members that participation is at their own risk. But perhaps the schedule is to blame? I considered to use the gym anyway but I found no lockers. People leaving their belongings in unlocked lockers is also frustrating, giving a false sense of availability. I then considered having my bag with me but just decided to go home. The overall experience after a few months hiatus reinforced to me the unwelcoming experience that can be had at these gyms. There used to be good management here but I discovered that the guy who used to be here is now gone. I know gyms get busy after work but it doesn't seem this place makes the effort nowadays.
I understand that this is a no frills gym and is certainly cheap but... Its disgustingly dirty inside, no air con and all the mats are covered in sweat. I saw three guys "cleaning" when I went last, all three were standing around a treadmill chatting while gently stroking a treadmill with a duster, rather than doing any actual cleaning. Most of the equipment is fairly good, but the balance between free weights and machines is totally wrong - there is a tiny fenced off free weights area (which is always packed), with only two squat racks and no deadlift area! As someone who is serious about training, I would suggest that most people should use 80% free weights and 20% machines, concentrating on large movements like squat, deadlift and Olympic lifting, but that is impossible in this gym. I would recommend taking out some of the cross trainers and treadmills and adding an Olympic lifting area plus another couple of squat racks, which would improve the gym a lot. They could also add paper towels (not available at the moment) so gym users can clean up after themselves.
Generally really good gym with lots of equipment, clean, good prices and 24/7 availability which is great. Definitely worth making it a main gym if you enjoy free weights as lots of rascks and a deadlifting platform. Only thing I disliked were the instructor staff, who were a bit ocd about putting back weights even if it didnt make sense to. I did 5 sets of exercises, putting weights back on all except deadlift which I left at standard 60kg (otherwise its a pain to start at just bar with no trolley to load weights). Instructor came over and not only questioned why I didnt put it those weights back, but also started questioning me on nearby weights which were not mine. Quite aggresive and unsettling, especially given I had no issues otherwise and was putting everything back. Besides that issue, great gym and would recommend it to anyone, just watch out for the overly strict instructors.
I joined this gym as soon as it opened as I live just a few minute's walk away. I had previously used 7 other different gyms in the area, and this is much better than all the other gyms in the surrounding area. I was even advised by staff at nearby gyms that I'd be better off joining this gym, as I was interested in 'bulking up' with heavy weights and bench machines, and this gym has about 6 Smiths machines. Yes it is busy at peak times; I am fortunate enough to be able to train at off peak times, and avoid the evening rush (6-9pm). I have found the facilities to be adequately clean and efficient. Yes there is room for improvement, but again I would say this is head and shoulders above all the other gyms in the area. And it is a budget gym. And is open 24 hours a day, even, apparently on Christmas Day!
This is a no frills gym, it has all the equipment you need and for £25 you cant argue that its a great service and concept, brilliant value for money. The 24hr opening times is what sold it to me. The gym is very spacious and you dont get that feeling of claustrophobia like you do at some other gyms. BUT, please remember the price. If you want comfort and pampering then this is not the gym for you. It can get very busy down there, the weights room at peak time is almost impossible to get in. Im talking betweeen 6-9pm. I think the showers could be a little cleaner, with that said though, i do go there late and i have to keep reminding myself that it is only 25 bills a month. Just make sure you bring your slippers. If no frills is what you want or your on a budget then this gym is good.
Staff is friendly and overcrowding isn't really a problem as is with other puregyms such as Bermondsey, the big issue for this one is that there seems to be a refusal to update or even fix machines. A machine has been broken coming up to three weeks now, 2 out of 3 of the cable machines are rusted to the point where certain movements are near impossible, also, some of the attachments for the cable machines have gone missing or are in disrepair, mainly the singular straight bar that remains which has had it's grips removed for some reason. I don't know if it's lack of funding for management or some other reason, but its silly to be paying £35 a month for this, especially since the other gym I use in my uni town has their problems sorted within three days.
Very disappointed, I went to this gym at around 8pm ish, only to find that your automatic door was locked, therfore I could not gain entry, when I inputted my pin in the code box I got a generic text advising me to use the pod instead (even the pods are behind the automatic doors). The gym was clearly empty, which meant that it was clearly not open and explained why the automatic door was locked. I don't understand why you would advertise this as 24 hours yet no entry. This was a wast of my time and journey as I have to go to Charlton in the end. Sorry but this is making me think pure gyms is like this in general and I joined 2 days ago who know I may face the same issues with other gyms but definitely won't waste me time going there again.
Awful customer service - the staff and management are just sales people. I joined the gym before it officially opened, but found they started billing my account immediately for a service I couldn't use. My emails and phone calls requesting a refund were frequently ignored, and they even denied ever receiving any communication from me. Avoid this unprofessional gym and join somewhere else instead. Edit: I've noticed that the management has taken the time to respond to my review, and other customers like Jof have had quite different experiences to mine. I hope what I encountered were just teething problems with a newly opened business, and that they've improved since then, as the Greenwich area does need a decent gym.
Been going to this gym for 6 months now. Great gym, good equipment. It can get quite busy but if you go at the right times you'll be fine. I don't know what's been going on lately, but the gym has been incredibly warm lately. I don't know if the air conditioning is broken or anything, but it is starting to impact my workouts. It's been this way for about a month now, but hasn't seemed to improve. It seems as though this is worse in certain parts of the gym (near the squat racks). An additional point would be that I think the staff/personal trainers should be more involved. Too many times I see people doing exercises blatantly wrong, and nobody ever pointing it out to them.
The good; Convenient location, generally pleasant atmosphere, good value. The bad; Currently the gym is threatening is members by telling them they must put their equipment away or be banned, yet the gym does not have sufficient storage space for said equipment. Moreover, the gym's trainers leave equipment lying around. Cleanliness has slipped since the gym first opened. Equipment uptime is generally good but not always (e.g. the only scale has been broken for over 12 weeks now). I generally like this gym, however, the manager, Rebecca Cox, does not seem to take member feedback seriously. I will consider updating this feedback when these issues are addressed.
This gym is ok. I've been to far better PureGyms which is a shame because the standard appears to vary so much. The Greenwich one is fine but some of the equipment is really quite old/rusty/rickety which can be frustrating so it's definitely the worst out of all the ones I've been to and I've regularly used about 6 now due to moving around a lot. Also wish they would make more use of the stretching room upstairs and add a big mirror so people can train more free weights up there, which seems to be what a lot of people do up there anyway and would just make much better use of that space because downstairs gets really busy.
The value you get for the price you pay is excellent. And there are two different sites you can use with the same membership (greenwich movement and London Greenwich) . My only gripe is that none of the instructors seem to be permanently running classes- so you get used to one (excellent) instructor (e.g Bernard/burn hard!) and then they changeover...so some continuity or external class providers would be great, to offer a consistent service. Otherwise, visit outside peak hours and your experience should be great. Lots of cardio machines available off peak too as well as free parking. Friendly personal trainers!
Don't know why people are complaining about this gym! The classes are good, although some people stare at you while you work out but what gym doesn't have creeps? The instructors give you options for the different exercises in classes and there's a good amount of equipment to use! The classes range from good workout to sweatsville and Bernard, Elena and Nicholas are AMAZING instructors! I don't think I've been so motivated and pumped for class in ages! The downstairs is a little intimidating because of all the muscle heads, but there's a bit upstairs you can work out in if you want to lift weights without eyes!
One of the worst gyms I’ve seen so far. Would love to switch but all other gyms are further away and from the same chain. The gym can barely fit 90 people (which is the average number for this particular place) but it goes up to 160. There is so little space that it doesn’t just violate covid rules, it violates common sense. Probably because of that gym is never clean. The “variety of equipment” doesn’t really help when you have to wait 15-20 minutes for a single barbell. The only “decent” time to come is 1am when there’s ONLY 20-30 people. Awful even for a commercial gym.
Great place to workout. The PTs are very friendly and the managers are always willing to help. First review above was 2 years ago and is still true regarding the PTs (5 stars for them); however, the physical environment is a mess! As of yesterday, it was more like working out in a crime scene. Numerous buckets catching leaks from pipework, hazard tape everywhere, faulty lighting and the sewage-like smell. This has been the case for months. Now the cleaning station has been removed. It's a disgrace! Fix up Puregym. Your loyal members deserve better.
A FANTASTIC gym! I love how secure I feel when I am at gym late at night, the security is definitely a BIG plus! The fees are low but the service is HIGH - great!! :) The changerooms (ladies) are always clean and tidy - which suits me as a germ-a-phobe. There are LOADS of machines and there is always one free! The free classes are always so fun and the general vibe in the gym is friendly and welcoming! I feel at home in Pure Gym and will always recommend it for newcomers! Thank you Pure Gym Greenwich for making gym a fun and enjoyable experience!!
Relatively sizeable gym with plenty of equipment that is relatively new. It does get busy from roughly 5PM to 8PM weekdays, otherwise its pretty chilled and you will generally not have too much problems waiting. The pricing is the draw to this gym and is extremely affordable for what you are getting. It should be noted that you get access to the smaller gym down the road at the station. Only downside is that sometimes it is a bit of a mess with people not putting weights back
I was looking for a gym that didn't charge extortionate prices but that had the facilities and classes that I wanted. Having read a few not so great reviews I was a little skeptical when I joined but I have to say I've been really pleasantly surprised! The staff are all very friendly and helpful, the gym is clean and the machines in very good condition and I don't find that it gets too busy, I can always use the machines that I need. All in all, I would really recommend it!
It's an ok gym. I've been using it for approx 1 year - it's definitely best to go before or after peak times. It's not the cleanest, you can kind of feel how dirty equipment is, usually I visited at 5:30am and there were no signs of anything having been cleaned or put back properly - it certainly didn't adhere to Covid regulations when it was at it's peak. Most staff are friendly but quite loud/disruptive sometimes. If you can look past these things, it isn't too bad.
So far I've had good experience here. I feel that the price is average for the area but there are more expensive membership types to chose from. The changing rooms and showers are always clean and the equipment is well maintained. There are definitely a lot more men than women at the times that I go, however I always feel safe. It would be nice if the staff made sure that the weights were in the right places on the racks as it's sometimes hard to find a pair.
I enjoy Training at this gyms a lot and particularly the gym in high Road because of how hands on the management team is, whenever I’ve had a concern with other members or training methods the PT team has shown positive attitude and helped me out. I also feel very motivated training here because of the high energy the rest of the individuals around the club generally. I will definitely recommend this gym any one experienced or advanced in their training.
UPDATE: AFTER I LEFT 3* REVIEW AND COMPLAINED ABOUT CLEANING, I'VE NOTICED THE NEXT DAY, WAS ALL CLEANED. WELL DONE! It's is not as igienic as should. On women toilet it's a blood stain, (see pic attached), from over 2-3 months. The entrance security code, are a quite dirty (see pic attached) And unfortunately for an reason, all the time it is a list one bucket collecting water from leaking spots. Overall its a good gym and well equipped.
Attended this gym for two years, always went really late at night to beat the crowds. During peak times there are at least 200 people inside, I wouldn't recommend to day/evening time gym goers. Was accused of taking gym equipment had my account frozen because of this accusation and never heard a response from customer service when I queried it. Very bad customer service, I now attend The Gym in Lewisham - best decision.
Not a great gym, almost aerobics classes, most of the group exercise classes short seem to be the same exercises in each class (all involving weights on a bar and a step) and in the staff have to focus on personal training so cant show you how to use the machines, hard any places to do floor work. Only good for cardio machines (which there are a lot of). I had very poor works outs sessions at this gym.
I've been at pure gym greenwich for over a year the management and p.t's are always friendly , if you had any problems they are always there to help you with a smile .It is a very good establishment always very clean it is always a great place to work out equipment is always clean i would recommend pure gym greenwich to anyone looking to keep fit. Again fantastic gym great management great p.t's.
Attempted to pop down three times to try and see the gym and decide whether I wanted to join. Each time I followed the instructions to call the buzzer for help, each time I waited for around 10 minutes and no one came - one time a member of staff was even standing outside on his phone and chose to ignore us waiting there - after the third time we have given up and signed up for a different gym.
Honestly not sure what time ppl that say it's overcrowded usually come - I'm in the gym just before 6, i come straight from work and it's definitely not overcrowded. You can see people coming more and more after 6 but that's to be expected. Even when I leave at about half 6 it's honestly not that busy. The gym is new so it's clean, for the price I have no idea what people complain about....
The gym is quite nice and big. The reason of my rating is due the changing room. Most of the time is messy, dirty and most of the lockers are useless because the lock system is broken in most of them. Lately you can even find rubbish on the floor. I do understand that the fault is not of the gym only, but due the members (wrong one); I believe that pure gym should apply a skimming stratey.
Unfortunately I had to cancel my membership because of the unbearable smell on the stairs/2nd floor. Every time I visited the gym the smell just made everything feel filthy and disgusting. The other issue is not having enough space for regular exercises or stretching, many machines are broken down/out of order. The place is just alway overcrowded, long waits for machines and equipments.
Avoid this gym! There are better options out there!!!!! SHOCKED BY THE NOTE ON THE WALL: PLEASE REMEMBER TO RETURN YOUR WEIGHTS OR FACE AUTOMATIC SUSPENSION. NUMBER OF PEOPLE SUSPENDED THIS WEEK: 22 AND RISING. Besides grumpy PTs- who just hang around the office, dirty machines and overcrowded busy hours...this gym has reached a new LOW! No need for this kind of treatment.
+ Offers a variety of equipment and quickly fixes any broken machine. - In the mornings and in the evenings the place is a disgusting mess. You spend a majority of your time walking around gym frustrated trying to find required dumbbell among a bunch of other scattered dumbbells and barbells on the floor. Annoying part of it is that staff does not do much about it.
I joined Pure Gym because of the cost - £26 a month for unlimted use is a bargain. I dont want frills. It is busy after work but still lots of machines. Only reason i gave it 4 stars is the spin and gym class area is a little cramped. But with free classes i can live with that. Best thing after 8 weeks still going two times a week which quite frankly is a miracle
Been going to this gym for years and I think the recent refurbishments are excellent. My major issue with this gym is that every now and again a group of regulars play their own amplified music and at least twice I have heard homophobic lyrics. Some member's of staff appear to know these people and do nothing about it. I would say it is not LGBT friendly gym.
There is a wide range of gym equipment here for use by all ages and experience. There are personal trainers that work here which can guide you for extra fees. There are vending machines and toilets here. It is very clean and everything is put back in its place. Parking is limited because it's London but if you take the tube and walk here it is very cheap.
This is a great gym. The staff and PTs are really friendly. I always feel safe and welcome. I reported a couple of problems to the manager over the last few months and they got sorted out straight away. I have used many gyms in my life; PureGym in Greenwich has helped me lose 14kg over the last few months. I’ve never had results like that before.
My gym!!. I love this gym, it has as near enough of everything you need to complete a great workout. Some staffs are nice, some are stuck up, but you get a good time and workout everytime you go in there. The only downside is that they have no accessibility for parking cars. I wish I could drive to the gym on some gloomy days
I used to use this gym when it first opened but had to leave due to the POOR management and attitude of Rebecca Cox. She is unbelievably rude to members! Other negatives include: - rude members - Poor parking facilities - sweaty machines Positives - Empty at lunch time - Clean locker rooms - Price - Variety of machines
Today was my first day at this gym, it was really nice, clean, a lot of equipments, the people there are very friendly. My only complaint is about the showers, too little water, it takes ages to take a proper shower, I definitely wouldn't mind paying more for a better shower service, and more benches would be nice.
Its a good gym overall. Was disappointed that it did not have a filling station for bottles of water. This is a important matter when training. Secondly the showers dont have an adjustment for heat its either warm or really hot. These are bad sides. The good sides are that it has a good variety of gym equipment.
This is a great gym with great facilities. I have been a member for a year now and I have no complaints at all. The staff are great also. I workout with one of their PT's called Kay and he's great, best PT I have had! Helped me get in shape very quickly so if you need a PT ask for Kay. Thank me later
Been going to this gym 5+ years now alternating with gyms closer to home, only come to this gym when doing a serious sesh, some things they can update on are the equipment some of the stuff are quited dated compared to their other gyms that I've visited but other than that no problem
Great gym. Not my usual gym, but used it as I had a bit of spare time at work. Plenty of equipment, every machine I could want, and not busy at all. But saying that, it was mid morning. So, not sure how busy it is at other times. But, for my experience, it’s 5 stars all day.
Nice gym, but some of the PTs really need to look at people's form and help them out. Some real back breakers in here. Watching one guy right now do bent over rows throwing the weight around, with his spine in a C shape about to snap and the PT is just watching him... Crazy.
Great locations and facilities really good quality for money. All the facilities are modern and clean and open 24 hours. I have trained at all times of day and it has never been too busy and I feel safe when training at night. Highly recommended especially for the money
Perfect for the price. It's a nice space, and has ample cardio machines and a ludicrously big free-weights area. I've never encountered any issues at this gym. If you're friendly, wipe down the machines, and put your weights away, you'll have no problems whatsoever.
The gym is great! They have all the machines to do exercise. Two floors gym I haven’t try any classes and the changing rooms are okay, don’t spect to much, not super clean and I would recommend being a lock and flats if you fancy take a quick shower …
This Puregym was spacious, well laid out with a variety of machines which were all working!! There were a few that were missing the quick attach couplings (this is why 4 stars), which was a little frustrating. The staff seemed friendly and it was clean.
Just so busy so as to make it truly unusable. Couldn't get a bench or any piece of equipment. Queues of three people waiting for equipment. More like a youth club than a serious gym. Cheap, yes but at what cost? Seriously let down by customer services.
Too often there's awful gym etiquette from people, especially in the weights area. Hoarding weights at peak times is common. Also the water fountains aren't good enough, I don't believe they are actively fixing them as a sign says. Staff are friendly.
Recently joined the gym for the first time and really enjoying. Thank you to Mahammad who took the time yesterday to give me some tips on form and show me where some bigger barbell weight were. It was really helpful and totally non-patronising …
I love this gym because is the gym I go to. HOWEVER, the hygiene of this particular gym is very much below average. I know they clean because I see the cleaners all the time but they’re job…very very poor in particular the women’s toilet
Better than the gym group in greenwich. staff are helpful and kind. They offer a off-peak membership which works out cheaper for people who train on less busier days. Clean and tidy and have everything u need. I came here the hack squat.
Why do trainers feel the need to 1. blast music from their speakers, 2. have background music playing on the gym's speakers and 3. shouting instructions over it? Im literally at the other side of the gym and can't listen to my earphones!
Decent for a puregym, obviously gets busy at peak times but it’s layout makes it fairly manageable. Compared to other puregyms I’ve visited this one is up there. Though vending machines were out of service for a long time and not fixed.
I'm so happy Pure Gym is open again after the long lockdown. The staff do their best to ensure everything remains clean, and my PT Abdullah works with me so I can keep training while following all the health and safety guidelines.
Moved into the area 2 months ago, great facilities. Go in the morning and theres always enough benches. Have been a member of various gyms and this as good as any of them and the price in my opinion makes them better.
Generally a nice gym. Cleaners are always present. The gym could do with some sanitizing spray and tissues for gym users to wipe down the machines. Lighting is required on the little walk leading up to the gym.
Great gym, but currently (April 2019) somewhat limited - most classes are not available at the moment, because they are going through reconstruction. So I guess it's gonna be better. Spacious, not overcrowded.
Great gym, but some people there don't follow basic gym etiquette which makes it difficult to find an equal pair of dumbbells. Like seriously guys, how hard is it to unload barbell weights and put them back ?
Studio musics are extremely loud! If there’s a studio class during the day, it’s impossible to focus on the training. Even with a headphone; i cant hear my Spotify music. Men toilets are complete mess.
Nice gym, but right now there is a problem with water pressure, so it can be difficult to refill water bottle or take a shower. Some trainers are really good, had some nice gym classes there.
personally very bad experience, some are rude, entitled, and racist .......... thought the gym is their own private gym with no common sense and respect, offended by one of the females there
Nice gym but please can you change the cross trainers to better ones like the other puregyms? They feel so weird and uncomfortable to use. They feel like I look like I'm trying to dance.
Great range of classes and equipment but the weights get quite busy on a weekday evening. One of the better pure gyms that I have been to, feels like you get a lot for your money here.
The classes are excellent and it’s open 24 hours. It has a good selection of weights and equipment, overall very happy! Have been a member for the last 3 Years and go 5 days a week.
It’s quite nice. You’ve got almost everything you need. The only thing I would say is that the lockers are not good, most of them are broken and it stinks really really bad …
Great staff, good facilities, some issues with a broken, dripping ventilation system but that will be fixed. Reasonably priced membership Will be back for more gym sessions.
Solid gym with great functional area. Can be a bit busy at times, but that's standard across the board. Only place I could find in SE with prowler for miles on end haha
Decent gym. I use PureGyms uk wide as I travel and was my first time here. Split level, great equipment. Wasn't over packed. Enough machines and free weights.
Very cheap but always horribly overcrowded. If you're in there to do any cardio, then great. There are plenty of cycles, elliptic cycles and treadmills.
First time here. Class instructor needed a bit more energy. Also warm up was too short to go on to deadlifts. Could feel an imminent hamstring injury.
24 hour gym, currently don't have to book to use the gym, friendly/ helpful staff, app is useful and you need to clean the equipment after it is used
It's gym closest to my home. Really good atmosphere, clean lockers rooms and a lot of equipment. Something, specially between 16 - 20 very busy.
+Usually not that busy, there is plenty of space (I think that's the most important thing here in the big city) + Helpful staff
This is one of the best puregym’s I’ve been to in London. Very spacious, loads of equipment, almost always clean and organized.
Robs a great PT highly recommend! Classes are good lockers always available changing rooms are clean and people are friendly
LOVED this gym. Clean, big, lots of space and loads of equipment and super tidy too! I didn’t notice any bad smells at all!
Paid for a day pass, came in, and the code didn't work. No staff members inside, none answers the calls, no assistance
Dear Pure Gym Please turn off the heating. Some of us actually come here to work out and sweat. Sincerely, Sweaters
The smell was disgusting.. moist and hot. They need to work on equipment quality and air conditioning
I just started recently to go and I really enjoy, even between 6-7pm still enough space to train!
Scam unable to access at 17:30 unable to contact anyone on the app, no refund, I am very gutted
Gets extremely busy after work. They've definitely taken on too many members at this point.
when its packed you can barely do anything. good gym tho. i beg use bermondsey instead.
Training space is small and it Doesn’t even have a changing room, terrible.
Smells like someone died in there. Some ventilation please..!
NEEDS TO RUN THE A/C. They removed the cleaning stations too
Today went well it wasn't very busy and it was really clean
Great equipment and big! They have a hip thrusts machine
Everything you need, doesn't tend to get too busy
