If I could give zero stars I would. Horrible service and manners. Zero empathy regarding my case as a foreign wife trying to divorce her Korean husband. Notice how every single positive review is a male who most likely committed a crime. Lawyer Simon Lee definitely has a soft spot for criminals. When I told him that my husband has three criminal charges which he hid from me for years, including the purchase of an illegal green card which got him BANNED FOR LIFE from the United States, another charge for DEALING DRUGS in Korea, and a third charge in which he served a ONE-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY, Mr. Lee responded by saying, “Lots of wives are married to criminals. So you think they have the right to divorce them?” Um, YES, if the husband purposely lied and hid these very important facts. I want to stress that Mr. Lee stated this as a personal opinion, and not from a legal perspective. Then he proceeded to defend my husband in pretty much every allegation I had—stating that my husband’s excessive alcohol intake, verbal and physical abuse, evidence of him hitting our daughter, the fact that he barely works and I supply a large portion of financial support from my savings—none of those matter because my husband works a few hours a week and brings home some money. Then, of course, I asked emotionally, “How can Korean law be so unfair?” And he responded by saying, “I’m your lawyer, not your therapist.” Wow, just wow. Then he followed up with, “Well, time is up” and hung up. I’ve spoken to many lawyers regarding a variety of topics throughout my life, and NOT A SINGLE ONE has ever said, “Well, time is up”—CLICK. I wasted good money on a useless consultation. I’m just grateful he won’t be representing me in court. DO NOT HIRE him if you’re female and looking for someone professional. If you’re male and a criminal, he’ll probably have your back, though. ZERO STARS.

I really want to thank Simon for answering my burning question and confusion of my Korean citizenship that I didn't know I had after finding out through the Korean Consulate Office in Los Angeles that I was a Korean citizen! The last thing I want happening visiting Korea with my mom as a tourist is to be detained and conscripted into the Korean military and not knowing I had to fill some form before traveling with the consular office. There really isn't enough information out there in English (in Korean it's more generic and murky), on the Internet or YouTube of Korean-American males on how to renounce their Korean Citizenship in order to visit S. Korea as a tourist. I may post a YouTube video on my personal experience after this experience is over. Simon was more helpful than the Korean Consulate Office in LA who gave me a frosty response to find somebody who speaks Korean to fill out a bunch of complicated Korean government forms and that I was "lucky" for not getting caught trying to enter Korea with a US passport even though I was born in the US and only had a US passport my entire life. Both my mom and I who speak, read, and write Korean fluently can possibly fill out Korean style government forms if we never had exposure (50 plus years for my mom) and myself who never seen one. Sounding out my American address in Korean and putting it in the Korean address format and simultaneously trying to write my mom and dad's Korean name in Hanja (Classical Chinese character) and their clan is not easy for anyone in the US. Simon was more helpful than the Korean Embassy in Seoul who gave me irrelevant information, and told me to seek legal help from a Korean attorney. They then followed up with automated emails saying due to the volume of high emails, they wouldn't respond. If I have any legal troubles in Korea, I will seek him for my legal representation as a foreigner! Thank you!

I cannot recommend Simon and his team at Pureum highly enough. I was falsely accused of a crime in while living in Korea, and the case was taken to trial. I switched lawyers to Simon before the first trial, as the lawyer I had initially worked with wasn't a good fit for me (if you're not confident with your lawyer, you should get a second opinion!). It was immediately clear that Simon was the right lawyer after the first consultation. He has a fantastic record with criminal cases and his communication skills are top notch. A different country's legal system is always confusing, but Simon broke down how the system would work, what would happen and be required at each stage and what we should expect.
