Horrible experience. Rotten foods. Super rude service from the owner. My friend always wants to try this place, so finally we went last Saturday. The cakes look amazing. And I order Mango A GoGo salad. While my friend is enjoying her cake. Took them 25 mins to bring me the salad. Ok fine, and it’s looks ok. So I started eating. When 1/4 way through the salad, most of spinach on the bottom were black yucky rotten and the mango were slimy. I tried my best to picked out the good leave, but it was not enjoyable when you paid $15 for a salad and picking through rotten vegetables. So I took the plate back inside to show them the rotten salad, and the guy at the counter looked at it and said “what’s wrong?”. I was kind of shocked, I said I can’t eat this, can I have something else instead? So he brought the plate into the kitchen. Couple mins later, the owner of the restaurant came out with the same plate to my face, asked me again “what’s wrong with the salad? It’s spinach!” I looked at him, and looked the rotten salad, and said “I know it’s spinach, but they are rotten!” Then he said, “If that is the problem, why you ate most of it? What do you want me to do now?” I responded, “I didn’t know when I started eating, and I didn’t see the rotten part until I ate most of the top good leaves. I want to order something different. May I please?” I told him I want to BLT sandwiches meal instead(by the way, the BLT combo is supposed cheaper than the mango salad. And supposed to come with soup/fries) So he walked away. Another 20mins later, he came out with the sandwiches, throw it on our table, i didn’t even have chance to say thank you, but he already walked away without saying anything. No soup nor fries… I honestly feel really horrible how he treated me as a paying customer. I am not a beggar begging for he foods.

When I use dot live in Calgary, this was my most favourite spot to go to for sitting, working and eating breakfast food or even just popping in for a nice snack. I love their scones especially the whitechcolate raspberry one! I am not keen on their coffee but because I really like their overall food and atmosphere and the staff are very friendly. I came back in May and this was one of the places I stopped to grab a coffee and my favourite scone plus came back here for a breakfast sandwich! As I review food places all over when travel, this one I didn't realized I hadn't yet written a review! So here it is! My favoutir split is the bench seat right next to the window - oh yeah! Met some awesome people while working there too! Highly recommend to come here and chill out or work if you can and try their food. I love that HUGE chocolate cake they have in on the counter but I have never tried it bc of calories and it is SO BIG .. haha I would bring someone with me to eat that thing! Highly recommend :) Read more only food blog at follow fauzia How to find us: Make sure you follow us, Follow Fauzia around Bangkok and beyond and of course we have now been going to Phuket quite a bit so we got some amazing reviews in Phuket, honest, authentic and real! Had a very average experience here. The food was good which was the only saving grace. A few initial observations: good food selection, great selection of sweet treats too which is pleasing. There are plenty of tables however very cramped. They could do with taking out 1/3 of their furniture, you can’t move in there just with the tables their chairs tucked in. There isn’t air con so not ideal for escaping the heat. The carpet inside could do with a deep clean. The customer service was not good. I ordered one handheld meal to share, one Nanaimo bar and two coffees in to go cups (so we could take them if we didn’t finish). The girl gave me the Nanaimo bar and a table bar when I paid and provided no instruction, I asked if that was all and said I could sit down. I sit down. I wait for my food. The guy who brought our handheld out could have been more pleasant when we asked for an extra plate (not a bit deal). Hand way through our food we realized we didn’t get our coffee, so I go inside and they’re sitting on the counter, pretty well cold. Boone told us they wouldn’t be brought out and they were in ceramic mugs. Anyway, a bit of verbal exchange bringing to their attention they need to explain this to customers orders are placed. I was with my mum and my newborn. Had my mum not been there, was I supposed to leave my newborn sitting alone on the patio while they made my coffee and I go and collect? How can you tip for this? Why bring out food but not coffee when dining in? I don’t understand. Anyway, if the staff had been more pleasant it would have made for a less negative experience good food, meh coffee

Good coffee and food at reasonable prices. Tea lattes have only one bag despite size differential, which led to it being too watery but latte good and milkshakes thick. Great selection, although only one gluten free-ish option. Carrot cake is a massive slice, well worth the money and big enough to share between two or three. It feels like there are too many tables crammed in, so it's difficult to get situated, and a few tables were very unlevel, so we had to try a few times to get a spot. Been going here for years. it's always a reliably good spot with a great patio and service, and we prefer to support local small businesses versus corporations and chains

I will not order again. I ordered the beef pot roast which was two slabs (burger like formation) of meat that was gelatinous and slimey. I was expecting a pot roast, not two peices of meat full of 70% fat that I could not eat. There was barely any gravy on the mashes potatoes and it came with beans that had a hard chunk not edible as shown in the pictures. I prefer Dennys potroast over this any day. Sadly. I also ordered a large gumbo that had 5 peices (I counted) of sausage and the rest was stewed tomatoes. I have to give an honest review and say that I did have my hopes up but was disappointed with my order. I will not order again but if it was good, it would have been perfect and I would have ordered over and over because the price is great if the quality was better. $16.99 for the potroast...please do not order it. Gumbo...don't do it. I used to go here for coffee and drinks daily, maybe stick to that because they do have great beverages. I'm just not going to be a returning customer after spending almost $30 on very low par food.

Purple Perk has always been a great place to grab a coffee or a bite. Lots of options for a hot breakfast/lunch and a wide selection of baked goods. It's a great place to have a solo coffee or meet with friends. If you're looking to have your coffee to stay, just be aware that it's a very popular spot and seating can be tight! The coffee is great, and they have extensive options for syrups as well, including many that are sugar free. Today I had an americano misto and it was excellent, a great espresso flavour nicely balanced with a perfect amount of steamed milk. I tried their "everything but the kitchen sink" muffin for the first time as well, but found it a bit underwhelming. While it was nice and moist with a lovely coconut topping, the batter was very plain and overwhelmed the muffin- it felt a bit light on the add-ins.

Don’t know why the reviews are so positive There were black flies flying around ( it’s freezing cold outside ) Atmosphere is very poor! We were asked if we were leaving, while still seated at a table... still drinking our coffee! Other customers were not asked that question! I asked the girl behind the counter why she asked us and no one else, she said: - Oh, just, no reason. She had an arrogant and rude attitude! There was an other customer ( with a partner) waiting/sitting on stools by the window, consuming whatever they ordered. A few times that customer was annoyingly standing way too close, hoping we would leave... Assuming they were regulars there, because they were giving us dirty looks as if they were (white!) privileged to have a table ASAP.... Purple perk, not my cup of tea/coffee! Way too expensive! And lousy and rude staff!!

  • John DiLallo

I had breakfast at the Purple Perk and I ordered the $12.95 special. Everything okay, a little too much salt, coffee good, but not great and then it happened, the reason for this review. I asked for glass of water and I was told they had no glasses so therefore no water...I know what you are probably thinking and I am telling the truth..They said no water! I coffee fill up was an additional $4.00.. Purple Perk we all have choices and you certainly can choose to service your paying customers not to provide water, the minimum you can provide. You list me for life and for you reading this please consider you decision to go there. Good luck and bring an extra glass for guys like me..

Staff were nice. Food overall wasn’t great, people in the party had the cheaper mac n cheese and a panini which were heated from sitting around in a glass cabinet presumably all day (we came around 2:00pm). Neither were great, nor were the chips. I ordered a more expensive sandwich from the kitchen with a salad which was over-dressed and soggy. The sandwich was also soggy and difficult to eat, but tasted pretty good. Coffee was alright, but on the expensive side. The vibe is okay but it feels run-down in a way that isn’t appealingly vintage or antique, just old and drab. Desserts look ok but also appear to sit in the glass cabinet at the front the entire day. Kind of disappointing.

Was there today, the line up and wait time was ridiculous They had a older gentleman working only at the front end cash and serving food but the service was very slow especially for a Saturday they should have 2 people upfront (one on cash, one on the food) especially for sanitation purposes He didn’t seem too friendly towards me but to others he was nice Overall I might give it another chance, also I seen fruit flies by the glass case cakes I’ll give them another chance hopefully in the summer hopefully the customer service will improve He did make a mistake on my order I asked for the turtle slice of cheesecake and he gave me cherry (I hate cherries) but I’m already home now so I guess I’ll just eat around it

I know you’re supposed to like the purple perk. I was there Saturday and it was lovely efficient and well staffed. However the follow day looking forward to another lovely experience at the purple perk was a mistake. The service was lethargic, the girls working had a bad attitude even making a hot chocolate for my son the same way as the previous day. I requested my banana bread or cinnamon bun warmed and they denied my request only for me to watch them warm a cinnamon bun for another customer. It was truly disappointing experience. My recommendation would be to attend when the owner is present to ensure good service.

I ALWAYS love coming to this eatery. The service is impeccable and with humour. The food is amazing (they have a vast selection of both savoury and sweet foods and I haven't run into a dish yet that wasn't worth the calories! So good!). My family ordered my birthday cake from here. It was to die for. They are open late and they also have outdoor seating. The community feeling you experience here is real. It's ALWAYS an easy choice to decide to frequent this restaurant. Highly recommend.

I went to Purple Perk for the first time 2 days ago and the rating is more like a 3.5. The overall space is great for studying or any meet ups. The only downside was that during my time here, the person working didn't clean tables as much as I would have liked to see. Granted, only one worker was there however, you would expect especially during Covid tables would be cleaned between customers. It made me wonder if my table was even clean before I sat down or the bathrooms as well. I would definitely come back but I hope when I do, cleaning precautions will be a little better.

Eggs Benny and bagel took 40 minutes to arrive, and had to wait for clean cutlery, as the self serve bin was empty. Bagel was hardened like it had been through life for 30 years, eventually hurt my jaw to break it down enough to be digested, clearly I am weak and unworthy - just scraped off and ate the cream cheese for sustanence. Portion size was impressive but the eggs on the Benny were hard boiled rather than soft poached.

It's been a few years since I've been to Purple Perk since moving down south. This used to be my go to for breakfast sandwiches, not sure if it's the fresh bread or what makes these so good but it's the same consistently awesome breakfast sandwich that I've always craved. The potatoes that come with it are tops as well, everything else I've had there is good too but for me it's them dang breakfast sandwiches that keep me coming back. *Update: Went for Father's Day 2023, still the same great breakfast!

Best place in Calgary to enjoy food, company and get work done. My husband and I usually would go for their wraps and now have dipped into more of their delicious menu. Huge appreciation to their staff especially Ivy!! She’s always smiling and even went out of the way knowing out names and our usual order…. Staff and owners are so friendly! Other establishments need to take notes on the 12.99 3 egg breakfast with coffee. This is how breakfast and coffee should be done. I absolutely refuse to go to places like OEB, Reds, Beltliner etc. Never will I pay $25 for a 2/3 egg breakfast and a coffee. Purple Perks food is great and the price is what it should be! Excellent baked goods and laid back atmosphere.

Honest. I wanted to give this place a great rating. I phoned, yes they had carrot cake and cheese cake, so off I drove because of the positive ratings. I drove, spent 45$ for NO cream cheese icing on the carrot cake, the cheese cake was NO write home to mom, no whipped cream, and the tarts were made with ugly lard, NOT butter. No hand made items, here, I would suggest, with exception of hand moulded tart shells made with lard, it's all commercial. Very disappointed, and would never recommend.

  • Nicole M

lemon square was 90% crust 10% lemon filling. if you’re going to have a terrible owner with a disgusting attitude, you would think the food would at least be good to make up for it. the owner was interviewing a young lady for a job (in the middle of the cafe?) and i overheard him say “you must have lots of boyfriends” ??? what kind of sleazy, gross comment is that to make to someone looking for a job? if you’re in the area support a local business that isn’t run by creeps and has decent food.

  • Joie

Its been a few years since I came here, but starving & in area, this was the first place I thought of. Still a very busy place & still a lot of delish choices...actually they have added to their menu! Very happy with my lunch choice and now have to go back for the other two choices I didn't make THIS TIME! Parking can be a challenge as it is on the main street, & there is usually a line up, but worth it. I think they have wifi as I didn't stay.

Love this place. Food is always reliably tasty. Lots of variety. Very chill vibe with people chatting, reading or working. Service for food (heating up a sausage roll) between 11 to 2pm seems significantly slower for same approx number of customers in store/line during evening hours. I'm not sure the reasons why that happens...but that's the only negative for me: inconsistency with timing for properly planning my visit. I choose not to go here if I have a tighter schedule.

  • Jessica Petit

The barista guy was very kind, and hard working. I ordered a drip coffee which was ok, and I also ordered the smoked meat hash which was really bad. There was absolutely no seasoning, no salt or pepper on the sunny side egg even, and it was supposed to come with hollandaise, and they forget to add it. Wanted to love this place but it just didn't hit, esp for the price point. The baking in the cases looked good though, I might have just ordered badly.

Love the vibes of the shop. You can study here as well. The chicken fettuccine is salty to my taste. the cheesecake where great. Coffee is the right balance of mix. I saw the cookies and cake are huge portion. Must try local coffee shop. The spaces between chairs are tight. Kudos to the team for the great service.

Great welcoming atmosphere. Best coffee in Calgary. Great staff. The food is fantastic and reasonably priced compared to quality competitors. Come hungry and have the Guadalajara for breakfast! It’s only $14.95, compare to $19 elsewhere. Thick toast and tasty potatoes. One of the best cafes in the city with a full menu. Bring your computer as it’s work friendly. 100%

  • Philip Chang

Went here to have brunch and the food was decent. Wife had their jambalaya, I had their west coast Benedict, and our friend had their Nashville burger. Benedict comes with an extra poached egg which was nice, the fries were very good to compliment the burger, and Jambalaya was okay. This place has a very central perk feel to it, their coffee is actually amazing.

  • Marie-Noel Voyer

Very trendy local owned coffee shop. I enjoyed the items we ordered and consumed. I felt that the staff at that time could have been a little friendlier. Prices are not super competitive but I guess a small shop like that needs to charge more to survive in these trying times. I’d still go back. Hopefully the next customer service experience will add a star

I love Purple Perk! I have been coming here since I moved to Mission three years ago, the staff is always friendly, the food is delicious and their London Dog's are by far the best in the area. I bring my baby here will me sometimes and no one seems to mind if she gets a little fussy. So comfortable and welcoming. Absolutely love …

Food was good but oh man was their respect of covid protocol something to witness. Just disgusting behavior. Customers were unmasked. Not distanced. Owner was un masked preparing food. No screens or PPE to protect staff. As good as this place is, I will not be back. Very disappointing and selfish behavior. If I could give a 0 I would.

Always great service everytime I've stopped in or when I've purchased from a delivery app. Servers are friendly and kind and they go above and beyond. Also, if your a desert person this place is dangerous. They have cakes, cookies, tarts + lots of options for lunch or dinner or just a quick snack. It's my new favorite spot in Mission.

  • Ben Littlechilds

Solid locals cafe. I personally LOVE their Ruban...highly recommend it. Update 2022/10/22 - still a 5/5, but you can tell this place lost some of its clientele due to its covid stance. Also, the coffe breakfast, the bacon quantity is much lower, and smaller toast, the the cut backs are obvious, but I still like this place!

  • M0 Bo

Five stars for telling Dr. Karen off last year. But the food is great. Can't resist their veggie lasagne. The cake, the cookies the food is amazing in general. I can feel my waistline increase already. A curse on anyone who thinks that this place should shut down. It's a beautiful cafe in a historical part of down.

The line can get really busy on weekend mornings so get there early. Their latte wasn’t that good for the price of $5. Bland. Crew were nice and cheerful to customers. A lot of tables inside, as well as patio chairs. They have wide variety of food menu from lunch/bfast meals, handhelds, desserts and pastries.

Great vibe, good food, and all around pretty great little spot. The lunch meals are worth the price but $16 for two coffees and two bagels? Maybe a little steep. Because of the nice atmosphere you don’t really realize it’s actually pricer than Starbucks.

Good little coffee shop. Staff was friendly and it has a good vibe. Lots of seating inside, and a patio is built into the street during the summer. I got a bagel and a chocolate frape, the bagel was super thin and small for $4. The frape was delicious.
