I have never taken the time to write a review for a grocery store but this Ralph’s has consistently exceeded my expectations. Not only is there plenty of parking in the garage below the store (a gem downtown), but their customer service has been excellent with each of my encounters over the last 6 months. I usually walk to get groceries since I’m just a few blocks away, but the parking area is well lit and has an elevator should you need that accommodation. One time I dropped and shattered a jar of sauce right after checking out and they insisted on cleaning it themselves and let me get another jar. The security officer is always by the door and friendly, which is nice as the area can be fairly sketchy being right next to Gaslamp. When I do grocery pickup orders they call if they need to make any substitutions, and if I mark online that I’m on my way they will be standing outside ready to load everything into my car when I arrive (even with <10 mins notice). There’s a fancy escalator for the carts that stops the wheels from rolling while on the declining/inclining slope, and they’re open until 1am which is so convenient when you’re a night person like me. It’s a smaller sized grocery store so they don’t always have the best produce selection, but I can almost always get everything I need there. They’re also dog-friendly and have a good flower/plant selection, which always snags my attention. Plus a little Starbucks! I’m very happy to have this grocery store so close to me. Despite my neighbors saying they avoid this Ralph’s because of sketchy encounters they’ve had or seen reported, I have not had any negative experiences here thus far. The only downside is that there are a few homeless people that hang out/sleep around the building that can be uncomfortable to walk by when alone. But if you drive then you never have to deal with that, and it’s downtown so I don’t really expect more regarding that issue. Anyway, that’s all I have to say. I’m a content customer.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. After a long day of flight delays and traffic we finally made it to SD around 11:30 and I chose this location because it was the only place open that would sell toiletries. When I walked up all of the doors were locked (fire hazard?) and a note posted saying that you could enter through the underground parking garage. No indication where that was. Once I managed to find the garage entrance I then had to walk on the road while cars pulled in and out. The doors in the garage too were locked with ANOTHER note that said to take the elevator. Once again, no indication of where that was either. Finally found it and made it into the store only to find that they lock up the “pharmacy” at 10. I found the nearest supervisor and asked if she could please unlock the aisle or grab a bottle of contact solution for me and she responded in a condescending tone that it was locked and she wouldn’t be opening it back up. Her actual reasoning was that the cashier was gone for the night and when I pointed out that normally you could just ring it up yourself at self checkout she clammed up. I get it, you’ve got procedures in place but if you continue making it near impossible to get into the store, refusing to sell products and treating customers like trash then this location won’t survive much longer. TLDR : Don’t bother trying this store, especially at night.
Currently they are closing the front doors sometime in the evening because they are doing repair work, and making you enter the store through the elevator from their parking garage. This means that after walking around the whole building to get to the front door, you have to walk around the building, again, down the car ramp (The entrance of which is posted -Pedestrians- Do Not Enter) and through the garage which seems to be filled with sketchy people hanging around the elevator door. I understand the need for all this, but could you PLEASE update your sign to inform your regular customers the TIME you are shutting the doors in the evening and until what DATE this will continue. I asked on two occasions and the staff I talked to said they did not know. A sharpie and 5 seconds of your time adjusting the sign will save a lot of us (especially us old folks) unneeded walking and frustration. Signed, a customer who is there most everyday, and who is thankful for this downtown location.
I was at this store on 11/01/23 at 11:25 pm… getting some groceries before my surgery. I gave 3 stars because they lady on the floor walking around putting things away was amazing unfortunately I don’t know her name but she is the reason I did not give a lower rating… my cashier Gerardo was horrible he was not friendly and did not want to do his job like get my brother liquor from the liquor cabinet. He probably should be back of house because he is simply not a friendly person… you should be kind because you never know what people are going through like me having a major surgery the following day and being scared out of mind because of it. I honestly don’t know why he was so unfriendly to us maybe he is also going through something but when you are working you have to leave your problems at the door. I recommend some sensitivity training for your cashier and hopes in the future he will be more polite to your customers.
This was my first visit to a Ralph's store. This is a one-stop shopping center for all your needs. From fresh produce to gift cards, they have it all. The amount of options you have with each item is helpful. I wanted some bread, cereal, almond milk, a gift card, and snacks. Finding the things I needed was easy without any help from the staff. The self-checkout process at the kiosk was effortless, and it hardly took a minute. I'm glad my first experience at a Raph's store was enjoyable!
I was going through self-checkout when an employee started going through my bag without permission and accused me of stealing. I've never been so embarrassed in my life. I can't believe they treat their loyal customers like this! I filed a complaint with Kroger and they assured me that how I was treated was unnecessary and wrong. I suggest shopping at Grocery Outlet instead.
Ralph's is my favorite place to shop for food daily because I live right next door to it. I usually grab lunch there from the awesome Salad Bar. Sesame Ginger dressing is the bomb. I also like the hot meal center for like mash potatoes, onion rings and other great stuff. Ralph's is an intricate part of my life.
Ralphs Signature is a great supermarket, big and spaceous with overwhelmingly good selections of fruits, vegetables, food, drinks and household stuff. Mostly organic. Staff is nice and helpsome. I could walk around the aisles all day and dream of all the good food
Everytime I come to this store to buy medicine or vitamin c, the section where you purchase these items is closed and only opens during certain hours. It's so inconvenient and this has forced me to buy these items elsewhere. They were in a
Security guard on 12/9/23 is the biggest jerk of all time. I’m PREGNANT and begged if I could use the rr bc an employee told me to ask him, and I could NOT hold it, which he very rudely told me “no they close at 8pm”. What kind of business
I understand downtown is dangerous at night, and this location has a lot of theft an other security issues. That being said, it is NOT OK to lock all the doors and force everyone entering or existing to use the 40 yr old elevator to the
I USE TO LOVE THIS STORE.. BUT NOT ANYMORE ON JAN 6 2024 AT 6:24PM I'M LEAVING THE STORE... AND THERE LATEST CREEPY..PHYC EMPLOYER ANDREW REALLY. SHOWED HE'S SADNESS... SO HE'S COMING IN AS I'M LEAVING AND... HE COMES OUTSIDE.. YELLING
Good consistent food quality. Management needs to realize that do you need a shopping cart with wheels or a hand carried basket in order to purchase food. The majority of the time I go in there, neither one is available.
Great location, clean store, it has all you need while staying in the area, there is a deli where staff can make you a sandwich to go. Produce section is vast and the bread area has plenty of choices , meat
Everything is good there. Accept for the bakery department. When call to special order of fried Chickens. It seems like can't get any help at all. Or you get hang up on after 3 (three) transferred call.
David in customer service showed me how to use the Ralph's app for digital coupons. He only had to show me once and it is very easy once you know. Thanks 5 Star ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A+!
BEFORE YOU COME HERE PLEASE READ THIS FOR YOUR SAFETY THERE IS EVEN A TL;DR: They have been doing construction for weeks. They've locked all the doors, and
Nice and convenient shopping in downtown San Diego. I like that they have off-street parking below the store, so it's easy getting in and out.
