literally the most putrid appalling customer service from the manager (i think) with the bug looking aah curly front hair pieces and the grey beard. its giving misogynist, entitled, never-worked-customer-service-in-my-life, arrogant man. the girl working with the brown hair was an angel and a blessing and she was the only good part of my experience in the store. all me and my friend wanted was to look at a rug we were possibly buying unrolled, and the guy spoke to us as though we were children who didnt know anything, all the while basically trapping a small young girl trying to pass through in the corner and visibly making her uncomfortable. When i asked the girl (after like 3 mins of her just being uncomfortable standing there) (who obviously wanted to pass through the isle behind the man) “do you need to get past?” she said “yes please” but this awful freak man stared at her as though she didnt even exist and continued with what he was doing, without moving an inch so this 8 year old max girl could be set free from the corner she was trapped in by him. this man has repeatedly displayed the rudest behaviour when i have visited, and if not fired entirely he should be moved from the recovery shop to the tip face so he can be with all the other trash.
I came here from a far away drive for a look as I enjoy seeing what items people throw away and see if I pick up a bargain. I found a used outdoor item that had no price on it. I asked nicely how much is it? They said $12 I thought it’s not worth that so I offered $10. The salesman and owner was adamant the price stays and would not negotiate on $2! I couldn’t believe it. The owner then got her back up and said it’s a private business with rent and overheads to pay. This place is where peoples old used stuff is dumped and is being sold for ridiculous amount of $!.I went onto say your obviously no hurry to get rid of items. This woman said to me don’t bother coming back here! So rude. I can’t understand that we live in such a consumer world, people throw away stuff on a daily basis, and people are more concerned on making a profit than letting someone have a used old item at a reduced price that would only have been dumped into landfill anyway. So disappointed we live in a world of greed and we are trying to do our bit for the environment. Do not shop here.
This place is an absolute joke. I spent the 10 minutes of my life I wasted there with my mouth open in disbelief/laughing at the absurd prices. So many of the items I looked at had stickers recognising the item was damaged in some way, but the price tag didn't reflect that in the slightest. I picked up a kids plush dinosaur only to find a $15 price tag?? Maybe some really rich Glenorchy kids shop there.... It's such a shame as going to tip shops is one of my favorite pass times. I could easily have left with an armful of goodies, but the price point had me leaving empty handed. I hadn't been to this particular shop in a few years because it was expensive then, but obviously it's only gotten more ridiculous. Learned my lesson and won't be bothering again. The one star reviews don't lie.
Very very very disappointed with the service. Accidentally wandered into the 'staff only area' where a women and man came rushing in. The women asked very coldly that "did you know this is the staff only area" and I replied that I didn't realise as I hurried back out. But she didn't stop there she proceeded to speak to me in a very belittling tone saying "it's not that hard to tell." However it was for me since it looked just like any other room there just a little more unorganised and I didn't realise there was a door there until they shut it behind me as if I were some theaf or delinquent. It's a shame because I used to go there all the time as a kid and haven't been back there for more than 10 years. Definitely do not recommend going there at all.
Went to look around and found a heap of old watches. I wanted to buy them and the guy serving told me he would go and chat to tue older gentlemen working there to try and find out a price. He then returned to tell me that i cant buy them as the manager has to price them. I left my contact details to be called on monday/ tuesday and got nothing. I called back on friday to ask what was going on and got asked to call back in an hour which i did, only to be told i still cant buy the watches. It would appear that the manager may want to keep these for himself!!! Maybe making a little side profit at home with goods he thinks are too valuable for the recovery shop.. who knows. But its odd behavior from a shop of any sort.
Prices are more expensive than a secondhand / vintage / antique store. Getting items for free and charging a premium is downright wrong. Supporting a community to value second hand / reusing / repairing and respecting the environment requires affordable second hand shopping. After all no one who is shopping at the tip shop is cashed up!!!! You don't save stuff from landfill and waterways by forcing people to shop at Kmart and Bunnings because it's cheaper (which it is). I saw an old man in the middle of winter be denied a discount on a massively over-priced old leather jacket. The man left cold and empty handed. The jacket stayed unused. How sad.
One particular worker at the counter up the top was very rude to us when we asked if prices were negotiable as we are not well off with money at the moment. We were asking if they could take $20, for a $28 small wooden tv cabinet, that was falling apart and had lots of scratches and indents on it. We were met with a smart attitude and a rude comment made very loudly “No you will have to pay that price like everyone else”. We respect this is out of our budget, and an explanation of unfortunately prices are not negotiable is all that was needed. We left feeling embarrassed as this comment was made in from of a lot of other customers.
Saw 2 clothes racks and one had $3.50 and then the other slightly bigger for $6.50.I decided I wanted the bigger one so we took it to the counter and then we walked around proceeded to shop and when we come back to the purchase our goods and the rack and the manager or the owner came out and changed the price to 16.50 and basicly accused us with price tampering and said we did something to the price when it clearly stated 6.50 . because she was so rude and accused me of that I will never be going back again. She just didn't want me to get a bargain she was very nasty and made me feel so small I still can't believe that women
I used to absolutely love going to this tip shop but of last 12 or so months the prices are ridiculous. Some things are priced at eBay prices (if not more!) yet they get less traffic than eBay. Unless they find someone who desperately wants the specific item or lacks knowledge in pricing it’s just not going to sell… Pretty obvious too that people are not willing to buy with the masses of trollies full of new stuff out the back and the shop being over crowded. I no longer visit due to their pricing… it’s really disappointing as this used to be one of my favourites. Mornington, South Hobart and Margate get my $$ now.
They get everything they sell for free, so why do they think they can charge the maximum possible amount for everything? They don't like bargaining like they used to either. Years ago, you could get some great deals on used items, but it seems lately that the staff have become greedy, hoping people will just pay up. Often building materials are only 30% less than the brand new alternative. Would not recommend this place or the Hobart tip shop.
You really have to hunt for a bargain their prices are pretty inconsistent and they won't budge on price. I have found some real treasures staff are nice and helpful. Again their prices are expensive for donated items it is a tip shop after all, you get better prices on most furniture at a second hand shop and it will be cleaner
Very, very expensive for a tip shop where they get their "stock" for free! They are hyper sensitive about prices as well. I had the manager/ owner?? speak inappropriately to me when I critiqued the prices, and then dismiss me with bigotry as he stormed out after asking my line of work. It was totally unacceptable behaviour.
Enjoy having a wander through this Tip Shop regularly. There are many good things to be found, and I have bought quite a lot there. On the down side, prices are high and the staff are not willing to negotiate. I would have thought moving stuff they got for free at any respectable price would be enough. Apparently not.
I don't recommend it the lady who served me was absolutely rude to the point where I ended up having to walk out n leave what I was about to purchase I will be making a proper complaint once I find out her details I have been a regular in the re-use shop I have spent thousands all the other employees are great
Incredibly disappointed at the pricing here. Cheaper to buy things new at bunnings. I'm all for reusing/recycling, but it's just insane here. It's like they think everything that is old is vintage or classic, and just add a zero to the price. It's a tip shop! Not some antique store. Never going back.
Staff are incredibly friendly, far more reasonably priced than the Mornington one. I find out the glenorchy tip shop they are accepting and engaging with people with disabilities. The Mornington tip shop tries to take advantage of people with disability and over change for often broken items.
If you can't get what you want anywhere else then you can get it here. And of course the prices are a fraction of anywhere else. Why not look here as your first port of call and then try your other usual shops for that kind of thing. I always find wonderful surprises there.
Have been a regular here for the last three years, now unfortunately the prices are just getting too expensive. Unable to warrant paying top price for an item that needs repair / work when same brand new item can be purchased at a DIY store for the same if not lower price.
I used to love this tip shop but prices have gone through the roof recently. Even items that have been on the shop floor for 12 months. Don't get me wrong, I still stop in frequently but it's certainly gotten much more expensive and am finding I'm purchasing fewer items
2x - 10x the price of things in the South Hobart tip shop - which has about the same quality of goods. Outrageous considering that the input material cost is $0 as we are donating stuff to them for free. Gumtree is often better deal for both buyers and sellers!
A well-organised tip shop, wear sensible shoes if you’re looking at the yard storage area (building materials etc). Fun decor with lots of artwork made from salvaged materials. Good range of collectable electronic items, but expect to pay more for these.
From all the donations & what they salvage, their prices are exuberant. People go to these sort of place because they can't afford brand new. Just out to rip people off. Shame on you Glenorchy City Council. Definately not a place to go for a bargain
Really great stuff, you just gotta look around for it. I love how they've kinda made a museum/art gallery out of recycled bits. Slightly pricier than South Hobart Tip Shop, but they're better organized, and heaps more stuff. Well worth a browse.
Went for a look while killing time before a flight. Very expensive for a tip shop. Lots of stuff - but most of it should not have made it into the shop (damaged/missing pieces etc). Surprisingly busy, so maybe I was there on a bad day.
The pavers they got for free from Glenorchy council due to pavement renovations and theyre selling it for $1.60. Pavers from Bunnings similar sizes, $1.20. Recommend from Bunnings instead, cheaper, brand new, better customer service.
Was looking for an old work bench or table ( steel framed ) to use as a potting table. They had just the right thing and dirt cheap. They have a huge range of items. If you are handy, then this is the place to shop.
One worker very rude. Prices of some things are very now expensive. Was told they would have to check item price as it was an "antique" They now charge antique store prices on some items, not recovery tip prices.
V.expensive for stuff they got for free. V.Well organised and friendly staff however for the price, you may as well go literally anywhere else. Go to a second hand store, incredibly it will be cheaper.
Bad vhs shelves! They put like 2 rows behind the main one which makes it very hard to actually see what tapes they’ve got! It wouldn’t be so bad if they put the most collectable ones in front!
The Tip Shop is always a great place for your at home projects that you don't want to spend a fortune on or those that you want to look rustic! Great bunch of staff that are always friendly.
I bought very little and this is primarily because they are overpriced which is a real shame as they could do and help the reduce reuse recycle system greater if their turnover was far more
Nice stock but priced like antique shop and not a tip shop. Prices way too high. And not enough staff to handle donations and sales. Long counter wait times if you want to buy something.
One of my favourite places to shop, as I usually find what I'm looking for at a very cheap price. Staff go out of their way to help load items into car if they are large and help needed
Can find everything you never knew you needed here! They will sell anything and at reasonable prices too. Items are recovered and diverted from landfill, excellent form of recycling
Was very good as was looking for a small sheet of glass and found one , pays to look , didnt pay an arm and leg either .their also ready to help you and really friendly .thanks
Way too expensive. If I had money I’d be at high end stores. We come to the tip shop because we don’t have money to spend and hoping for a bargain. There are no bargains here.
One of my favourite tip shops. Querky and lots of interesting items. The staff could be a little more friendly but apart from that it is a great place to find old treasures.
Saturday 11.45 am. Was informed the top was closed due to weather issues and i will have to go somewhere else....not friendly informed nor was it a friendly service at all
Find alot of things that most other places dont have good place to get to if you wanna find something that you maybe looking for ..... plus good people good service aswel
Overpriced. Second-hand items at brand new (or above) prices. Can't expect people to reduce/reuse/recycle if they can buy it cheaper brand new at bunnings or kmart
Love the staff and have found some brilliant products here for a fraction of the price elsewhere. Really like how the separate room has been set up for clothing.
bro this wasn't even silver. wasn't even a complete piece. just a lid. a literal lid. for just over an hour of working minimum wage, you may purchase this lid.
Staff this morning was very rude. Have some good items there but don’t seem interested in customer service and working towards regular returning customers.
Way too over priced, most expensive tip shop ever. Would’ve bought so much but basically selling it at the same price as brand new furniture store. …
It is a good place to shop for just about everything you can think of if you don't mind second hand stuff it's really cheap I get lots of stuff from them.
The Recovery Shop has a second hand furniture and building materials. Filing cabinets to collectables and books. You can find something to buy for sure
Only visit when we need something of the obscure, that we are sure the tip shop will have. Sometimes they do, sometimes there prices are laughable.
Its unbelievable what people throw away when they could give it away. Check the Tip Shop, what you need might be there at a fraction of the cost.
Past years visited two or three times annually No bargains to be found here , no fun Just no comparison to Mc Robies Gully mob Or Mornington
Always a large amount and varied goods in stock, I think they need to go on a chuckout spree sometimes to keep the stock tuning over though.
Over priced for junk thats been thrown out. Sales person would not reduce fish tank by $4 lost sale on something that cost you bugger all.
Love this place!! Amazing stuff, great prices, friendly staff, awesome art/deco. We love checking out tip shops on occasion, it's so fun!
Agree with the last review I have been in antique stores with better prices. People don't come here because they are full of money :(
Bargain hunting? Good range of well organised pre-loved items generally at good prices. A great place to browse for unusual items.
Horrible. Staff menber very RUDE. Not a nice place when a person like that works there. Just a horrible experience because of him
Get some great bargains here but some of the prices are over the top. They have to remember its a tip shop not a department store
Overpriced. Found nothing I would pay the asking price for & neither did my husband. Certainly not as good as other tipshops.
One person's trash is another person's treasure. So many treasures here to rummage through. Can easily lose a few hours here.
Got what I needed but sheesh the lego is massively overpriced . Also my son commented that it smells like grandma's house .
Priced waaayyy too high. Too expensive for those needing cheap items and too expensive for the pickers wanting to upcycle.
Upmarket licenced restaurant. Nice atmosphere with mid rage pricing. Steak, egg and chips with a pale Ale came to $38.50
The recovery shop is the first shop I go to if I'm looking for that something. I only know what it is when I find it.
Fun to scrounge through and nice people though badly damaged in recent floods. They'll be back on their feet soon.
It's big and good tip shop. Various types of products are being sold. In the shop, some art works will greet you!
For a tip shop a lot of stuff way over priced like cake tin's ,muffin tins cheaper go to big w buy brand new $3
Excellent coffee and the staff and owner are fantastic! Thank you for being so kind with your service, …
great place with staff that really care about reducing waste and making a circular economy. Keep it up!!!!
Visited to leave some usable stuff. Reminded that it was one of the last outings with my deceased dad. :-(
I wanted some scrap steel, but it cost more there than buying from metal land. Recycling should be cheaper
we went ro tip and recovery shop it was exspencive it too it wasnt like that before it use to be cheaper
Interesting but not many bargains - more of an antique store with some items cheaper new in store.
Cool place let me grab a small car part which had come off mine. Very helpful and friendly people
This is like Aladdin's cave for the second hand junkie. Everything. Worth a visit just to wander.
It's just a little unorganised to cluttered for my liking its still a good place to go though
Friendly staff, prices a bit high for some stuff but I did find what I was looking for …
Lovely service and I just love the bric a brac that is there I just can't help myself …
Treasure trove. Lots of stuff for projects. Found a great saxophone case once. Great staff.
Not a bad selection of stuff but the prices are way higher than the South Hobart tip shop.
Prices are ridiculous This place needs reporting to the consumer affairs and fair trading
I will never go back there any more they get things for nothing and sell for new prices
yes can be very expensive example pool glass panels $120 each or 3 for $100 on gumtree
Awesome place, with awesome stuff. You'll definitely find something that suits you.
Interesting mix of items, but a bit pricey compared to other tip shops in Hobart.
Things are so overpriced. You could spend an extra $5 on things to get them new.
Getting expensive. Most of the time can find something new at Bunnings for less.
One persons rubbish is another's persons treasure, but prices are a little rich
Found nice piece of steel.just what I needed for my project.weather station.
Lots of interesting and fun things- i take my children there for a fun walk
Fantastic selection of pre-owned tech. equipment. Well curated and priced.
This place has got some hidden treasures,if you have time to look around.
Prices have been sharply rising though good deals can still be found.
Great place to find and repurpose. Awesome staff with a friendly vibe
Not a bad selection of stuff Better prices than the Hobart tip shop.
Great range of items suitable for theme parties for decades : 1980's
Fair but some items are a bit over priced shop assistant well manner
Some prices r reasonable but most of the prices are like new retail
Things r pretty pricey in there considering they got it for nothing
Expensive for a tip shop. Amazingly expensive for limited quality.
Over priced and one female staff member had an arrogant attitude
I did a deal with the guy and he agreed 4 computers for 30 bucks
