If you are planning a visit to Dublin, Ireland. It is paramount that you visit Glasnevin Cemetery before leaving the City. I highly recommended arriving early in the day and immediately purchase your tickets for the tour in the Visitors Center. These Tickets give you access to the Museum Exhibits in the visitors center. The visitors center staff are so very professional and helpful. They also have experts on standby if you are doing genealogy research. You can purchase gifts in the Visitor’s Center and also enjoy refreshments at the Cafe. I had planned for many years to visit the Museum and take the tour of Glasnevin. I had actually seen the tour featured in an amazing documentary called One Million Dubliners. The documentary discussed the day to day operations of Glasnevin and featured the tours. I watched it on DVD that was sent to me from a family friend back in Dublin, Ireland. After watching A Million Dubliners I could not wait to visit the Visitors Center and take the tour. I have being to Glasnevin Cemetery so many times in my life due to a lot of own family being there. Well my journey to Ireland this past March was a powerful one due to my Family bringing my Dad’s Ashes back to Ireland to buried at Glasnevin. The Glasnevin Trust were absolutely amazing and so professional in taking care of our family. I personally took the tour of Glasnevin the day before my Dad’s ashes were buried at our family plot. I arrived to the Glasnevin Visitors Center early in the afternoon and immediately purchased my ticket for the tour. I was informed by the staff that my ticket covered me to visit the Museum Exhibits that are located upstairs and in the basement of the building. Once I purchased my tickets I went to the Cafe. The Cafe was absolutely amazing. I purchased a Cappuccino and a slice of cake. Also they offer free WiFi Internet Access. I ended up touring the exhibits and I was so impressed with the attention to detail. When it was time for my tour I immediately went to the desk and met other visitors that were taking the tour. Our tour guide arrived on time and his name was Aerial O’Connell. He was so professional and passionate about his job. You could tell he really loved history and taking care of the visitors. We set out on our tour and even got to hear a Reenact-or that portrayed Jeremiah O'Donovan whom was a key participant in Ireland’s fight for Independence. We toured quite a lot of graves of people who contributed to the foundation of Ireland and got to hear about the history of Glasnevin. It would go with out saying that the tour ended at the Grave Of Michael Collins. I was so on top of the world after taking the tour due to waiting many years to take it. I ended my day by purchasing an other cappuccino at the cafe. Lastly I ended back up at Glasnevin Cemetery to bury my Dad’s ashes. One of the staff members immediately recognized me from the day before and gave me a huge hello. The Staff at Glasnevin are incredible and so professional . I highly recommended taking the time to visit Glasnevin and take the tour of this amazing cemetery. Cemeteries may seem like a macabre place to tour, but there is often so much history to discover, not to mention the ornate architecture involved in the memorials dedicated to those who have passed. This is the largest cemetery in all of Dublin and I was awestruck by the ornate memorials held within. I just LOVED being able to view all of these old and ornate headstones and memorials. Pictures, nor words can possibly do it justice. The “General History Tour” or the “Dead Interesting Tour” are both €13.50 per adult (read details about the tours on their website). You can climb to the top of the O’Connel Tower for an additional €9.20 per adult. But WAIT! That’s not all folks! If you have the Dublin City Pass, you can choose one of the two tours for FREE and then add the climb to the top of the O’Connel Tower for a discounted price of €7. There are quite a few of the executed rebels from the 1916 Easter Rebellion buried here, so the place is packed full of history for you history buffs. Unfortunately, we arrived after the last guided tour, so we were relegated to checking out their audio devices (for free with the Dublin City Pass) which kind of guided us around the cemetery and would tell us a little history about the person in each gravesite. We tried doing this for a little while, but the place is so huge, and not marked very well, and the maps aren’t very useful either. We found a couple of the spots and listened to anecdotes, but we both agreed that it would have been much better if we had gotten there in time for their guided tour. So, we ended up putting the headsets away, and just wandered around enjoying the beautiful architecture. There’s also a museum at the entrance that gives a bit of history, also a cafe located next door. The young people running the museum and entrance area were very polite, helpful, and courteous. They were able to give us advice on what to do and where to do. They were very patient, and I truly appreciate that. In summary, if you just want to walk around and explore on your own, it’s fun. But if you’re craving more history about the cemetery and the people resting here, get there on time for a guided tour. I think it is more than worth it!

Took the tour. It was incredible and worth every penny. The tour was extremely informative on the history of the Easter Rising, the Irish Civil War and highlighted the role some of the more famous individuals interred at the cemetery played in those events. There is so much recent history of Ireland that, as an American, I never knew. It really clarified a lot of the common street, place and monument names that are found around Dublin. In addition to being informative, it was fun and engaging as well! Our tour guide was Niamh and she did a fantastic job. My nine and six year old were even kept entertained by her presentation of the cemeteries history. In addition to Niamh's wonderful presentation, there is a part of the tour which has an actor in costume give a FANTASTIC rendition of a famous speech that was given at Glasnevin that helped spark the Easter Rising. I did not catch his name, but he gave an UNFORGETTABLE recitation. He put an incredible amount of power, energy and spirit put into it. Excellent tour, I HIGHLY recommend. In addition to the tour, my nine year old and I also climbed the Round Tower which is the O'Connell Memorial. It is 198 steps and my legs were jelly after doing the tour and then climbing up, but it was worth it! Full view of the cemetery and the surrounding area. There are posters with historical information on landings on the way up, so you can take your time and still learn as you go. Also, climbing the tower is discounted if you have a tour so you might as well just tack it on if you are there anyway! To the folks at Glasnevin, keep up the good work and thank you!

My biggest criticism is the map of the cemetery being €2.50 and it is still like looking for a needle in a haystack for some of the graves. Managed to get most but was almost driven demented trying to find some. The map needs photos of the graves and there needs to be better markers for visitors. Cafe wasn’t too bag and toilets were clean. Parking is €2 and it’s across the road at the St Paul’s side where Luke Kelly, Christy Brown and Liam Whelan are. It must have cost a fortune for the ornate headstones and memorials as they’re fabulous. I think I expected flowers on key graves but there really weren’t many. Some parts are really old and the headstones are being restored or secured. Lovely that they take that approach rather than pulling the stones down and lying them flat. It felt quite safe inside even though there weren’t many people about. It’s almost like a destination cemetery with the cafe, tours etc. Go out one gate and you’ll get to Kavanagh’s Gravedigger’s Arms. Go out the bottom gate and you’re at the National Botanic Gardens. You can tour the graveyard free but there are some paid options. Lovely columbarium area with intricate tiles as works of art. The chapel looks fabulous outside but not on the inside. I was expecting an ornate church. St Paul’s section on the other side of the road is more your standard cemetery.

My husband and our three children (all under the age of 10) took the historical tour at 11:30 on a Tuesday; it lasted approximately 90 minutes. We preordered our tickets online. Daniel, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and provided comprehensive information not only about the prominent individuals’ resting within Glasnevin’s walls but of the cemetery’s history, too. The grounds are very well-maintained and even though we did not have enough time to walk through it on our own, we felt very satisfied by just doing the tour. I purchased a book in the gift shop (Glasnevin - Ireland’s Necropolis) and we also visited the little café to grab a couple of coffees and juices for the children. I highly recommend taking this tour, especially if you are not familiar with the story of Ireland’s independence movement. *** If you are nervous about parking, there is a small car park within the cemetery walls near the entrance. If you are unable to access it, there’s plenty of paid public parking on the street across from the main entrance.

I went on the tour today in Glasnevin and it was absolutely superb! I went on the tour with a guy called Daniel, he was extremely informative, enthusiastic and friendly! I would have went on longer if the tour allowed me to. As a local, I found that I have came out learning way more than I ever anticipated. I always wanted to learn more about Glasnevin as I live down the road and always passed by, and I’m more than delighted I took the time out to visit a local gem. Daniel really knows his stuff and I think I learned more in the hour and a half than I did in school! The museum was interesting too, highly recommend! Friendly staff, great location, makes me proud to be Irish. Five stars from me!

If you're into history this is the place to go. The cemetery it's loaded with Irish history and Celtic architecture it's magnificent, i must admit that it's one of the best cemeteries I've seen and one of the cleanest and extremely well taking care. Every time i visit it i feel blessed that I'm still on this Earth and if I'm depressed for some reason it goes away after 15-20 mins in there. After visiting the cemetery you can go and take the museum tour and after when you're tired and need something to drink you'll find the restaurant heavenly! If you haven't visited the place go right ahead, you won't regret it and you'll see an amazing place and learn some great history, good luck.

Excellent visitor experience- through the people buried here the tour weaves through a very varied and rich history and culture of Ireland. Patrick Pearse graveside oration re-enactment at 2.30 every day is fantastic. Coffee shop is surprisingly pleasant considering you are looking onto a graveyard- that’s the suprising thing about the cemetery here it’s a very uplifting and beautiful place. At the back of cemetery you can walk into botanical gardens which are really beautiful- ‘the gravediggers’ pub closeby is good place to refuel after your walk around. Plenty bus options to city at the gates so all in all very convenient and definitely worth visiting.

Well it's a funny story since we didn't plan to visit the cemetery but a lady we met in a pub said that we must came here. So we came. What can I say except that it's a really impressive cemetery. I didn't visit a lot of them since I always find it a little creepy but it was truly nice. A lot of well knowned Irish are buried here but we didn't knew much about this country History so we just walked around to watch the differents graves. I don't have much to say about the cemetery. It was nice but if you come here you should also check the botanical garden and the pub Gravedigger.

Dublin's largest cemetery, it hosts more than a million Dubliners since the middle of the 19th century. All of recent Irish history is here and can be explored on foot or with one of the guided tours. It's quiet, respectful and fascinating. Visit the shop and read the book you bought in the excellent café. A great place to spend a morning or an afternoon... and don't forget, the National Botanic Gardens (the Bots) is just over the back wall.

What a great informative tour. Our tour guide Daniel was so knowledgeable we could have listened to him all day. How he remembers all the historic dates I really don’t know. Sounds strange when you suggest to anyone to do a tour of a graveyard, but you will realise how worth while it is if you go. Amazing to think that the graveyard has more people buried there than there is currently living in Dublin.

Visited Glasnevin Cemetery on a beautiful crisp October day and can’t recommend enough. We booked on to the tour and learned so much. Our tour guide was a superb storyteller and very knowledgeable. Would definitely advise booking on and taking time to do the exhibition, followed by a stop at the cafe or a pint of Guinness at the Gravediggers pub. Looking forward to going back and seeing the view from the Roundhouse. Thanks to all the staff for making it such a fantastic experience.

They turned it cheap and tacky its a resting place for the departed gift shop and cafes and my god trying to find a grave when nothing is marked to show you are in the right place walked round for hours to find the grave only to not find it at all mark things clearly and let family put markers of where ther loved ones are after over a hundred years they deserved to be known and remembered

Visited here with my Partner over the weekend. We did the Dead interesting tour, Warren was our guide. He mentioned that he is a history teacher as such he was very knowledgeable, informative and open to any questions. He made the tour interesting and he had some great stories to tell. I actually wanted to find the grave of my great great grandfather. Warren provided me with a map and instructions how to go about finding the grave. I would definitely recommend the tour.

We spent several hours wandering around this incredibly beautiful and peaceful resting place on our recent trip to Dublin. We did the guided tour and our eloquent and knowledgable guide gave us an in-depth lesson about Irish history. If you are interested in going to Kilmainham gaol, I would recommend that you come here first and swot up on your history. A fascinating experience and a privilege to see the graves of some of the most important Irish figures in history.

I really enjoyed my visit here, we went as a group for the tour which included a guided tour of the cemetery, a tour of the museum and a coffee/tea in the cafe. On the tour we saw many historical things like the grave of Michael Collins and we went inside Daniel O Connels Crypt which has nice art work. The museum was good especially the 1916 section. The view from upstairs glass window is nice too. There is a gift shop which is a little pricey. Overall, a good day.

The tourist attraction is beautiful well kept, but what about our loved ones graves the end off cemetery is run down weeds growing everywhere it is shameful i have contacted the office numerous times over this and nothing is done. If tourists were down the end part it would be looked after its disgraceful. This is my grandfathers my fathers amd my grandmothers resting place. Shame on you Glasnevin Cemetery.

The tour could easily be 3 hours long but unfortunately only 1 and a half hours long. Amazing place and very knowledgeable wonderful tour guide. All the famous people of Irish history are buried here, all with unique stories that are brought to life -- ironically -- in this cemetery. Great for all weather. Rain and fog brings a neat atmosphere. Centre has a lovely shop and good restaurant/cafe. Worth the trip out! And very close to Botanical Gardens and within the same region as Croke Park for a lovely day excursion if visiting.

So we came here just after visiting the Botanical gardens next door (also free entry). This place is very relaxing and just huge for a cemetery, it is very well kept and there are plenty of hidden gems. The tower has some great views from the top, there are a lot of stairs and that is to be expected just don't b surprised when your legs are hurting the next day! I would say give this place a good hour or two to fully appreciate its beauty.

A great place to visit. The tour guide (we were with Katie) was really knowledgable and Interesting and kept our very large group engaged. Ever wondered why Parnell is buried in a large elevated grave ? You’ll have to go on the tour to find out the answer - clue - he is not in there alone. The climb up to the top of the O’Connell Tower is well worth it and the views are spectacular. Great facilities, superb museum and all well presented.

Beautiful Cemetary with a nice historic part with lots of amazingly crafted gravestones and a nice overgrown grass part (and a modern part). The further back you go the more trash you will unfortunately find so maybe consider packing a trash bag to pick up some trash to say thank you to the dead for them letting you visit.

It was great! I hadn't expected a cemetery to be a place that you could do so much and see so much. The Botanical gardens at the rear of the cemetery are well worth a visit and so is the museum. All the staff are very knowledgeable and incredibly helpful. When you've had your full and are ready for a sit down the restaurant serves very good food and delicious homemade cakes. The day has been excellent.

A great place to visit if you have an interest in or would like to know more about Irish history. The guides are very knowledgeable and have some interesting facts to share. You can also pick up a lot of information from reading the gravestones and listening to the recordings. Reccommend bringing a spare pair of headphones. The view from the top of the tower is spectacular and a must see here.

I can’t recommend this tour enough! It was easily the best and most interesting tour I have ever done. Our guide Ariel made everything super entertaining even for someone who is not Irish. I learned so much about history while listening to each of the stories. Moreover, the cemetery is really good preserved and it’s really worth visiting if you are planning a visit to the Botanical Garden.

My husband and I had a most wonderful tour of Glasnevin cemetery today. Our tour guide Grainne has the natural gift of story telling combined with citing a little poetry and singing a verse of Grace. She was most entertaining and has a wealth of knowledge on Irish history. We could have listened to her for hours but unfortunately all good things must end. We highly recommend this tour.

A gorgeous cemetary. Didn’t feel as old as those in Paris and London but had a very peaceful vibe. This one felt more structured and neat. What a surprise that over one million people are buried here! I did not take the tour as it was late, I just walked through. A lovely place to wander after the botanical gardens (there is an entrance right from the gardens too).

Visit here a lot. The restaurant savers some great food a the cuppa is great. There's are fantastic tours you can go on and now they have the tower open to visit. Also just walking around the cemetery is a good day out you can also pop into the Botanic Gardens through the gateway that links both. Or pop out to the Gravediggers pub for a pint or some food.

Thoroughly enjoyed a guided tour of this wonderful historic cemetery. Although the place is crammed with Irish historical figures we opted for the Dead Interesting Tour. This visits the graves of people who impacted the world, not just domestically but internationally also. Niall, the guide was informative and witty and made it an enjoyable 2 hours or so.

The official tour is an amazing insight into the the history of Dublin City and the generational Irish freedom movement. Our guide, Gráinne, was incredibly knowledgeable and very entertaining. The 2.30pm tour started with an actor re-enacting the eulogy given by Padraig Pearse at the funeral of Jeremiah O’Donovan-Rossa, which was particularly moving.

What a very special place, a beautiful final resting place for the Irish patriots buried here. Our tour guide was exceptional very knowledgeable and helpful. The tower climb was well worth the effort and we were rewarded with fantastic views of the city at the top

I didn't know what to expect when I came to check out the cemetery, and we signed up for one of the walking tours. I have to say, it was fantastic. It's so rare to have so much important national history contained in one location, and our guide gave a rich, storied history of many of the important figures with a contemporary local flavour too.

Just completed one of Glasnevin “new” tours with Daniel Carey and it was fantastic! Daniel is fantastic, extremely knowledgeable and speaks so well. The tour is informative, sprinkled with a bit of humour in appropriate places, and wonderful for all ages. I’m 39 years old and my two boys are 8 & 11 and we all enjoyed the tour. Thanks Daniel!

We stopped by Glasnevin Cemetery on a whim because someone told us that Gravediggers had the best pint in Dublin. It was gorgeous. It made my soul happy to wander through the cemetery. We didn’t take a tour but just meandered to wherever felt right. It was amazing seeing all of the history and love in this place. Would definitely go again.

Very bad had a Badly Disabled grieving Widow, visiting Saint Paul's would not be allowed over the bridge in the car as they said we would not be able to get back out it's only elderly people up here visiting, have a look at the photo's, today Wednesday at 1:30 pm the bins are over flowing management is not looking after saint Paul's

Took some Spanish friends to this tour and it was the highlight of their visit. The story is compelling, the re-enactment is gripping, the tour guide was knowledgeable and was a family member of Daniel O’Connell, making the experience even more spectacular. 3 tickets cost €40 which was more than reasonable for such a fantastic event

Warren gave a fantastic tour! He is so knowledgeable and witty. He showed us all the must- see graves as well as fascinating side stories of more obscure figures. Definitely worth it. Make sure to get a pint of Guinness at John Kavanagh’s Gravedigger’s next door when you’re done. They say it’s the best pint of Guinness in Dublin.

Intriguing location with a large variety of historic stories with links there including the uprising but also many intriguing lives and links which the guides being to life most excellently. The visitors centre is top quality, laid out well with a good range of refreshments on offer. Links with the city tour buses which we used.

Excellent tour. Our guide Irial was well informed, engaging and entertaining. The 90 minute tour flew by, we could have spent all day exploring the history in Glasnevin. We also visited the round tower which offers fantastic views of Dublin. The staff at the information desk were very friendly and helpful when we were arrived.

I have been to tours in Glasnevin Cemetery 3 times in the past and I would highly recommend a visit. Gráinne is a wonderful tour guide who is so knowledgeable of history and a great story teller. Climbing up O Connell tower is well worth it for amazing views. I will definitely return again in the future for different tours.

I didn't know how much Irish have influenced world and now I see why people wanted to be buried there. They do children's tours too, looking forward to that one!

Plenty of history here. I haven't done the tour but there are a lot of famous Irish people buried here. If you make your way right from the main gate and follow to path you will find an older gate with a great old fashioned pub outside, does great food and it's a nice stop off if you like to wander.

I have been to the cemetery, for funerals, one of which is my father. It was done quietly, and quickly as he was cremated. Leaving me always wanting to know more about the cemetery, history and who is still there.

We booked in the Glasnevin tour with some friends to take in some history and was well worth it. Absolutely fantastic tour and our guide Daniel was extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Could have listened to him for hours. Well worth spending a while there if in Dublin. Will go again!

Great tour. Really interesting to have a tour of Irish history, and the people who contributed to it. A must see for Irish people and tourists alike. It's very large, so be sure to wear shoes you can walk in. The staff are very helpful with any historical questions you may have on the day.

Quite morbid, which isn't surprising. The museum has toilets which are clean. There is a way through to the botanic gardens. Very interesting to walk around, can easily spend a couple of hours here. There are also several tours here, which I almost did but didn't - so I can't review these.

Visited and took the tour today and it was a good experience. Thumbs up to Ultan and all the staff at the store. I’m fairly well informed on Irish history but I learned plenty from the tour guide.

A wonderful place to be. A place full of history and silence. You can go here by the city bus or by hop on-hop off bus tours. If you really want to know something about this place you can visit the museum, which is also on the cemetery. You can stay at the cemetery for hours and hours.

What a great experience, could definitely have stayed longer but our time did not allow us.. Elena a super tour guide, clear, well informed and fun. Well done Elena. We would recommend this tour.

Very interesting place for a quick walk. The headstones are impressive. The Graves are located densely together. Lots of history. There's a short walk to the museum or the botanic gardens. Parking is outside the front gate. It is paid parking except for off hours and Sunday.

Ger conducted our tour for Culture day. She was lively, informative and good company for the duration of the tour. I still learn something new from each tour I do. Great way to learn some of our Irish history

Great tour of the cemetery with Daniel on the 24/9. Knowledgable and engaging. Definitely work a visit. So much to see so go with plenty of time so you can wander around after the tour!

BEAUTIFUL cemetery all together. Michael collins is buried in here as are other important Irish revolutionary's. The round tower isn't original but was constructed in the modern era. In always impressed by how beautiful it looks especially on a full moon . …

Myself and some family members visited glasnevin yesterday and done the 11.30 tour with elaina ..elaina was absolutely fantastic at her job she is full of knowledge and has a great sense of humor..we will definitely be back soon from the galway girls x

Really well maintained cemetery. Getting a tour guide is a must, so much Irish history associated with people buried here. On a clear day the views from the tower are worth a see too. Would recommend a pint in the Gravediggers pub afterwards.

Very well maintained historical for Dublin cementry. This is probably the first time I visited a cemetery as a tourist and it was definitely strange. It is near the Botanical garden which in my humble opinion is far better place for a walk.

They really have done a great job with this cemetery. However, charging €3.50 for the worse map I've ever seen is beyond a joke. The map didn't even have the entire cemetery on it. Plus it didn't have much info or graves of interest on it.

A really great historical tour taking the visitor to the graves of Irish leaders. Very interesting and an excellent guide. Also lunch was excellent at the restaurant. Straight across from The Botanic Gardens which are also a must see.

Beautiful Cemetery. We did a tour of Irish women buried there and it was extremely interesting. Our guide Bridget talked about these women as if she had met them in person, she was a great storyteller. Thank you so much for the tour!

Visiting family and took a ramble around to see a few famous Dubliners. Met a lovely couple who gave a beautiful rendition of Grace at Grace Giffords grave, also on the 101 anniversary of Michael Collins it was a fantastic day. More

The most ornate and large cemetery I've ever seen. They've got a cafe there too which was interesting. Huge Celtic crosses and tombs. Highly recommend. Also if you get a tour from Grainne, you are lucky as she was completely lovely

Really interesting with the tour, hearing all about the past. Or, just walk around and see all the different headstones and you get an idea of the history of Dublin. Well kept and worth going into the Museum if you have the time.

Really wonderful experience. Our guide, Niall, was very knowledgeable and a bit of craic too! Really well paced, kept all ages on the tour interested. Steeped in Irish history, this is truly a city within a city.

I love this cemetery it is kept so lovely. The cafe serves lovely food and the museum is nice to visit too . You could spend a whole day here going round the graves of all our brave men and woman of Ireland .

The tour is quite nice and informative, if you're interested in Irish history (early 1900s in particular). Without a tour, this is a gorgeous and serene (because very large) cemetery, great for a quiet walk.

Nice place to visit. Lots of Irish history buried beneath the soil of this cemetery. We had a tour by guide Katie, who was very knowledgeable and provided lots of information about its past.

Very interesting spot full of Irish history. The café is very nice and has a wide range of pastries, excellent sandwiches and the full breakfast is also good (make sure you're hungry).

Nice to wander around. Famous people are buried here, but we did not seek them out. Lots of atmosphere. Many graves are a bit deteriorated, but that increases the appeal for me.

Right beside the Botanic Gardens, this cemetery holds the graves of many Irish politicians and revolutionaries. Lovely high celtic crosses and a round tower. Well worth a visit.

Brilliant day had by all yesterday at mid-term tales at glasnevin cemetery. Our tour guides were Alan and Warren and were very funny and kept us entertained throughout.

A wonderful place to visit that's rich in Irish history, the recent renovation of the o Connell monument is a fantastic addition to the historical feel of the place

This is such a cool cemetary. I don't recommend paying for the tours or to go up in the tower or museum. Just walking around will show you how rich the history is!

History tour available. Coffee and tea shop. Toilets are clean. Parking ia a problem as limited space in cemetery grounds. Flower sellers at each gate entrance.
