Wij hebben 17 dagen door Madagaskar gereisd met een 4x4 Nissan van Roadtrip Africa. Pieter heeft de auto bij ons hotel afgeleverd, een Nederlander die al een hele poos in Madagaskar woont. Heel fijn om iemand als contactpersoon te hebben die je eigen taal spreekt, vooral als je voor de eerste keer in Madagaskar bent is het fijn om te weten dat je altijd bij hem terecht kunt. Iemand die alles weet van het reilen en zijlen op dit bijzondere eiland. We zijn vanuit Morondava eerst de off-road drive naar Tulear gaan doen, dit samen met een pisteur gezien we geen ervaren off-road rijders zijn, het land niet kende, de taal niet spreken etc. We wisten eerst niet goed wat we ervan moesten verwachten maar wat is het leuk dat er een local met je mee rijd, die ontzettend goed Engels spreekt en je álles kan vertellen over Madagaskar en de route die je rijd. We hebben zoveel aan Michel gehad tijdens deze week, ik zou het iedereen aanraden. Hij is achterin de auto gestapt bij ons, verteld je de routes, legt je uit hoe je door het water of losse zand moet rijden. Verteld je ook wat mooie plekken zijn om even te stoppen voor foto's, eigenlijk alles wat je nodig hebt daar helpt hij je bij. Thanks voor alles Michel! Daarna zijn we zonder pisteur doorgegaan langs de Nationale Parken. We hebben 2500km in 16 dagen afgelegd, en de enige pech die we gehad hebben is dat het slot van de achterbak kapot ging. Dit werd dezelfde dag gemaakt door een local in de buurt waar Pieter contact mee heeft opgenomen, en voor de rest hebben wij geen enkel probleem gehad. Ontzettend fijne auto, rijd lekker, kan tegen een stootje, het was super! Ik zou iedereen ook aanraden de koelkast erbij te huren, hier hebben we veel plezier van gehad, vooral tijdens het off-road gedeelte. De laatste dag nog gezellig zitten kletsen met Pieter, bijzonder hoe hij zijn leven daar heeft opgebouwd en mooi hoe hij dit bedrijf daar weet te runnen. We rented a 4x4 with rooftop tent and camping gear and had a very nice time in Madagascar due to Roadtrip Africa. We choose a driver guide for the west and unless you are a very confident offroad driver i can only recommend to everyone to do the same. The "roads" are very challenging, and you might end up too tired in the evening to go on a hike etc. Our driver Toky spoke excellent English and organized our daily experience in his country. As we spent most time in the west with its known security issue, we could not use the rooftop tent as much as we would have liked to. However, we spent some nice nights in the mountains and at the beach with the tent. Be aware that the camping gear does not come in European standards and might be a bit old and "shabby". However, we did not regret at all our choice with Roadtrip Madagascar and highly recommend them. Maybe you can come in contact with your driver beforehand and discuss the tour with special regard to wild camping.

I stumbled upon Roadtrip Africa after having researched a possible 3-week itinerary through Madagascar for some time already. Going through their website and in particular the suggested itineraries, it almost seemed as if my mind had been read. My remaining open questioned were answered well, and the suggested itinerary basically matched my own plan almost perfectly. The company representative I emailed with was extremely responsive as well. It was an easy decision to book with them. The trip itself went smoothly too. The car was in a very good mechanical condition, which is not a given in Madagascar, and some small problems during the journey were dealt with quickly, pragmatically, and efficiently. You can really tell that the people who run the company understand the country and how to get a good experience while visiting it. I rarely leave reviews but this company does deserve one. My girlfriend and I did our second self-drive trip with Roadtrip Africa and this time in Madagascar. We followed the Grand Circuit, a route developed by Roadtrip Africa. We can't compare it to any other country we've been, it's so different, unique and varied! We drove ourselves but Roadtrip Africa arranged a pisteur for us for the West Coast route. A pisteur is like a navigator. These are local guys from the region and they join you on a particular part of the route and help you which tracks to take and where to cross when the river is high. This made us feel more secure. His English was not the best but we nevertheless laughed a lot. We used the Bradt Guide and the website of Roadtrip Africa for tips. We called hotels a few days in advance to check availability which worked fine. Hotel prices are very affordable! We would love to return to Madagascar and book again with Roadtrip Africa.

Een buitengewoon slechte ervaring met deze onderneming. Ze maken vrijwel niets waar van we ze beloven op hun website. Zeer slecht onderhouden voertuigen en ontbrekende of niet werkende uitrusting. Facit: kapotte versnellingsbak, kapot 4-wd-systeem, kapotte remmen. Tot 3x toe beloofde noodzakelijke extra jerrycans niet leveren (oh, sorry, vergeten). Vastgeroest slot van hi-lift-jacht. Kapotte hi-lift-jack zelf. Geen sleepkabel. Geen car trackers. Na 2 van de geplande 3 weken het 2e kapotte voertuig teruggegeven. Geen vertrouwen meer om met een dergelijk voertuig het naar het mooie Tsingy te gaan. We hebben veel reiservaring over de hele wereld met allerlei voertuigen, maar deze ervaring slaat echt alles.

Good things: you can rent the car without a driver. Bad things: they will be so nice with you before they take your money. Right after, when you bring their car back, they will stop smiling and they won't be as nice (the very same people). I had two fellows asking me about speeding (100km/h) and why I was driving at night. You don't sign any contract that says you're not allowed to drive at night. Is just their recommendation. Anyways, the difference of attitude between first and second meeting made me give them 3 stars. I'm sure there are other people who get ripped off

Als Selbstfahrer in Madagaskar ist man immer noch ein Exot. Wir hatten Madagaskar schon lange auf unserer Wunschreiseliste, aber uns war klar wenn wir das angehen, dann nur als Selbstfahrer. Lange haben wir gesucht um einen Autoverleiher zu finden, der uns ein entsprechendes Fahrzeug (ohne! Fahrer) vermietet. Danke Roadtrip Africa, dass ihr uns diese Reise ermöglicht habt. Wir waren 3 Wochen mit dem Fahrzeug unterwegs und haben die Tsingys erreicht. Es war ein kleines Abenteuer, aber Dank des Fahrzeuges sind wir nie an die Grenzen des Machbaren gekommen.

Great way to discover Madagascar, I opted for a pisteur for the 5 day Westcoast route and drove the rest of this voyage allone. I rented the camping gear (including rooftent) as back-up and opted also for the superb fridge. The Nissan Navara double cab was as good as new and sturdy and capable (only remarque: maybe provide compressor so tyers can be deflated in loose sand) Thanks to Roadtrip Africa's I able to complete my planned itinerary completely when stopt bij I high waterlevel river crossing, by switching cars with other renters

For three weeks we rented a car from Roadtrip Africa in Madagascar and had the most wonderfull time! The car was very sturdy, with a rooftoptent on top and we were able to drive even on the most hard roads! Also the level of service is very very high! You have a fixed contactperson on the ground (shout out to Peter) with whom you can have regularly contact and who is able to answer all your questions! We are now thinking of renting a car from Roadtrip Africa in Uganda as well and can highly recommend their cars ánd service!

It was definitely a great pleasure booking our 4x4 car with Roadtrip Africa. The whole booking process was very smooth and the car we got was fairly new and in very good condition. We did the "grand circuit" and drove the car all the way our self. For the West coast we had an amazing pisteur (guide) with us. Definitely very useful if you are not that experienced with 4x4 driving, but also the navigation and especially showing some highlights along the way (like the hollow baobab). We would book anytime again.

This was an experience of a lifetime. It was a great trip, with a great car. Road Trip Africa communicates really quick as well prior to our trip as in Madagascar. They are really helpful and experienced themself and really willing to give you the best road trip experience in Madagascar! And Madagascar itself was for us (quite experienced travelers) the most awesome destination ever! We loved it!

We've rented one of their cars initially for 4 weeks but returned it earlier because of the change of our plan. This was no problem and the extra days were refunded. The cars are in great condition and well equipped for the terrain you'll face. Our contact Peter was very friendly and helped us with anything we had questions about. Definitely recommend!

RoadTrip Africa was an absolute pleasure to do business with. From start to finish, they were always quick to reply to emails and answer all questions with politeness and enthusiasm. I strongly recomment getting a driver in Madagascar as the dirver will be familiar with the road conditions which can be quite a challenge.

The whole process, from researching, deciding the route and type of vehicle, to delivery and performance of the vehicle were handled very professionally. The vehicles are top shape and the knowledge shared when delivering the vehicle was priceless.

I have to recommend Roadtrip Africa we spent three weeks on a road trip on Madagascar. If you want try to compare the price with standard rental companies don't do that. Their services are perfect and cars are really prepared for off-road journeys!

Double Cab was a great choice to take basically any road after the rainy season. Pickup and return were straightforward, car was in a very good condition and quite new (42'000 km). Canisters for 40l of fuel were provided.
