I was a member for two years, so please read this carefully before you sign up. They have a very limited number of equipment and a lot of it is broken. While the majority of the regular staff is very pleasant, I find that the assistant, general managers and the plethora of unseen and unaccountable owners, and managers, that you will never meet and never get a chance to speak to in order to Voice, your concerns, and/or opinions, make it a very toxic atmosphere. As a professional bodybuilder, I have very little tolerance for rude individuals as well as individuals who don’t rack their plates, who stand around, taking pictures of themselves, while hogging equipment, and rude staff. This place has it all plus more. This is one of my two gyms or at least used to be and frankly I couldn’t wait to quit even though it cost me a $270 early termination fee (despite the fact, I was told that I was no longer under contract and I was going month-to-month)! It’s an amateurish gym, full of rude people who simply don’t know gym, etiquette and gym protocol. If you were looking for a serious gym or a positive atmosphere where you will feel safe and you will feel that you have the opportunity and support of the staff, and even fellow members to grow and learn on your journey to better yourself ; then this is not the gym for you!! All the serious lifters and serious and dedicated gym goers have left over the past six months, and I basically look at this place as a planet fitness “plus“. Whenever a piece of equipment is broken. It usually takes them at least two weeks to replace or fix the broken piece of equipment and even the assistant general manager has no idea for example, that there are rather there is a reason that there are two different calf raise machines: there are two separate muscles in the calves ; ergo, they require two separate machines to be worked out properly. I recently went on vacation for 2 1/2 weeks and the calf raise machine as well as the abductor/abduction machine was broken. When I returned, I found that the machines were still broken. When I asked one of the assistant general managers, he very rudely, replied that a) some vague answer that they’re waiting on the parts and B) for now you can use the other calf machine, again, not realizing that there are two separate muscle groups in the calves. How could you be an assistant, general manager of a gym and not realize that very simple part of the human anatomy, or the very simple fact that those two machines are meant to do two separate things? I worked in a gym for six years before I started working my current career and I can tell you that this is a very amateurish operation run by a group of amateurs, who seem to be very apathetic as to the comfort and happiness of their members. As for the owners? Who the hell even knows who they are? When you asked to speak to one of them or even the general manager, a.k.a. the top boss, you are Hit with a wall of resistance, and that should not be.! No matter what deal they give you avoid at all costs! There are plenty of other gyms in the area such as BQE, which offer better deals, and also provide free parking! They also give discounts to veterans first responders teachers and people in the medical field. I have no regrets about paying that nearly $300 early termination fee; despite being lied to, and I am very happy at my new back up gym. Please do yourself a favor and do not go here! It’s no better than a regular, planet, fitness, New York, sports club, or any of the other chain gyms.
Rock Fitness is an absolute gem, with only few caveats. Just to provide some context, I focus mostly on strength training with a PPL split sprinkled with some cardio. For $70/month, I believe it’s a great deal to cover all the exercises that you’d need. Excellent variety and excellent condition. The only things I’d say are less than ideal are the leg extension machine and the T-bar rows. They are both very awkward and ineffective for their target muscle groups. The leg extension machine especially is the most awkward piece of gear I’ve used and difficult to adjust. I’d suggest just replacing it with a cable-based machine. The T-bar row, also, should be a chest-supported one. This gym is in need of more chest-supported machines, a great alternative for those who need to rest their lower back or have other lower body ailments. Lastly, the leg press is the worst leg press I’ve used. Plate loading and setup/use are fine, but locking and unlocking the safetys make it a bit unnerving, especially when you go to failure. All of this to say is, these are nitpicks. If you need more than this gym has, you’re either a snob or elite. Either way, this is a great gym for everyone else. They even upgraded their boxing bags!
Basically you have to pay $200 to cancel your monthly membership. I requested to cancel my membership in July after signing up in July. They told me I have to pay for 60 days ($166 total) unless I provide 2 proofs of a new residence that is 30+ miles away. I said I’d pay the 60 days, even tho I didn’t go to the gym once during that time. A couple days before the 60 days is up I get hit with another $40 charge for an annual maintenance fee that is charged after 60 days. It’s like they make you pay for 60 days after you wanna cancel so they can charge you the $40 extra.
I just recently changed gyms (PF to RF) and it was the best decision ever. They have way more machines, more space, the bathroom is always clean, and the overall atmosphere is just way better. You definitely get what you pay for. Whenever I come to workout I feel super motivated just because of the environment. Also the juice bar has the best protein shakes.
The gym is great! Has all the machines anyone would need with many cardio machines and various weight lifting machines. The only critique I would have is I wish the gym was larger; at peak hours it is very crowded and hard to get your time on machines you would like to use.
Been going to the Rock gym for about a week now and I love it! I appreciate how consistent they are about opening on time and keeping the restrooms cleaned. Also shoutout to whoever runs the morning playlist. They grew up in the early-mid 2000’s and I’m here for it!
This gym is amazing and extremely well kept! The staff is all personable and friendly. The 2 head managers keep this place running smoothly and effectively. The girl with the pink hair is so nice and knowledgeable about everything. I highly recommend this facility!
This is a tremendous gym with a big selection of equipment. It's actually a bargain at $70. It's not too crowded and very clean. It's amazing how nice they get it to smell in here. I'm definitely very pleased with my decision to join.
I have really enjoyed my first week at Rock! Great selection of equipment, and gym isn’t too busy during early mornings. Everything is always clean, the members and staff are friendly, and I’m always able to get in a good workout.
I’d been at Equinox for 4/5 years and started to realize it wasn’t worth it. Rick has everything you need, 5/6 racks, multiple free weight areas and some great plated machines, that other gyms don’t. Also a great price and team!
It's the best gym in the neighborhood. The gym is always clean and organized. Super friendly staff and great fitness classes. I highly recommend Rock Fitness to anyone in the Astoria area looking to stay in shape.
I joined this gym last week and so far I really love it. The place is very clean. The equipment is very up to date and everyone is very courteous. I'm excited to start my fitness journey here!
Just joined The Rock and I have to say that it might be the best gym I've ever been to. Staff is great and the equipment is state of the art. Highly recommend!

Cleanest gym in Queens. The cleaning staff keeps it spotless. The equipment looks new, and they have good options at their smoothie/food bar.
