Quite a quirky little shopping centre in Romford with independent shops supporting local businesses. The team running it try very hard to promote it and attract visitors and I get the feeling that a lot of the visitors are locals who come often. It’s such a shame that so many of the lots are locked up and vacant but I guess that’s a result of covid and recession. Lots of different people walking around and some real characters. There is good choice for food and I liked The Teapot Cafe and I also really liked the Asian Supermarket too. I’m not sure I’ll be a frequent visitor as I do not live in Romford and I doubt I’ll come to Romford just to visit here but if I ever find myself in Romford and am near by I’ll be sure to pop in and would also love to see the place buzzing again with more businesses opening up. It’s nice to support independent people.
It's been 8 years maybe a little more since I was in Romford last. Maybe because it was not market day, if that still exists, but the town was now hollow and empty, the decay that existed on the peripherals 15 years ago was now encroaching into its heart. I walked the pavements of the places I once knew well, lost in memories and nostalgia, twinged with sadness that this place would never be the same again. The large semi-empty shell of the Debenhams department store epitomised the sense of demise in the wider area. The new ratailer almost resembling a squatter, perhaps because the investment required would be too great or they themselves would not know if they would survive another summer. In many ways it felt like my home town of Croydon, with hindsight its seems fortunate that it has at least been saved by an over-development of flats.
I like the shopping hall because you can always find something a bit different or unusual that you wouldn't always find on the high street. They have easy access to the upper floors either by esculater or a lift. They have some nice food outlets, mainly on the upper floor, but have only visited the pie & mash on the ground floor, & very nice it was too. I have also visited the card shop at the entrance off the market place, the staff there are very good & can always help you if your stuck on what to look for. I have also visited the Chinese/deli shop on the ground floor, the staff there are also very helpful. I have also visited the fancy dress shop & the religious/healing shop on the upper floor & have also found the customer service very good.
An old fashioned market hall, situated just off the major market square/car park. Several affordable eateries with a range of good quality food served quickly. Shops change often, though the vendors are friendly folk selling named brands for a bargain price. There are beauty parlours, music shops, crafting rooms, a small newsagents, a book stall and a furniture shop, to name a few. The place is largely wheelchair and scooter accessible, and although the bathrooms are upstairs, there are both escalators and a lift, so accessible to all. There are ladies, gents, disabled and baby change areas, frequently cleaned. Its close proximity to The Liberty and The Brewery shopping centres makes it the perfect lunchtime stop.
Always loved this small shopping area, but sad seeing so many small businesses coming and going in a short space of time. We loved coming to the butchers in here but now sadly closed up and nothing in its place. An eating place upstairs has changed hands numerous times over the last few years. Still a pleasant place to eat and always busy. Car parking is also so easy although wheelchair users beware, sometimes the lift is out of order and the disabled bays are NOT clearly marked and not in the ground floor meaning you're reliant on a working lift! The lift in the shopping mall is always working but its very narrow and small.
The Santa's grotto is lovely. However if you are budgeting your visit be careful. I wanted my children to see Santa but prefer my children to receive their gifts from Santa on Christmas. I said, no gifts to the staff before the photos were done. Regardless, gifts were given. The money didn't matter to me (£10 extra) it was more what we prefer as a family. We wanted 1 photo. Ended up with 2 gifts and a photo. Gifts were given to my children as I was being shown the pictures that had been taken (behind my back). For the 1st time in 4 years, I think we are breaking tradition and going elsewhere next year. Sorry.
The modernised version of the old and long established Rumford Arcade. It still contains a wildly eclectic variety of shops and services from book stores, party/fancy dress shops to butchers and cosmetics to restaurants and opticians. It's one of those places where independent businesses rule and where you might find almost anything you cannot encounter elsewhere. I can recommend in particular the opticians where swift repairs can be done on your cherished glasses and the oriental food store that has the best selection of spices this side of Green Lanes. Well worth browsing around.
Very good selection of shop. Cafe, boutique & newly opened cycling & gym wear shop at first floor. Parking available & good public transport link. Public toilets are free & very cleaned. Prices are very good compared to high st shop. You might be able to get cheaper online but most of time product are not as expected & have to wait few days so prefers to buy from this market shops. Good for family day out as well because of a lot of big stores & street market right in front of shopping hall.
A place that is sometimes missed by everyday shoppers but I must say this place has some great little stalls and shops in there and gives you the things you wouldn't necessarily find in the other shops.... I love this place oh and the make up stall in there is amazing she has everything and is so friendly I recommend every lady go see what she has ... lots of stuff at a lot less than you can find elsewhere
Hi I like the romford shopping hall but the businesses inside are closing down today all the businesses inside are retired today after 4o years including mcdowells pie and mash shop my late mum and dad used to take me there I going to miss it not going there anymore I going to buy pie and mash to cook and eat at home it's the same as you eat in the pie and mash shop love maryanna Mahoney
Obviously with the high street in a bad way after years of online growth and a pandemic it might seem hard to rate places in town centers. However the shopping hall still has a lot to offer. Not just niche shops but eateries and most importantly something you can't find shopping online... A sense of community. A place that still feels like the heart of this market town
Not been here for sometime and on entry could see why......it's like an disorganised jumble sale plenty of second hand shops and not much more than that except 2 cafes 1 up and 1 down. Did not try but, that's i did not feel comfortable in the hall. Lift for using facilities such as w.c including a disabled toilet with one person use at a time .
A hidden gem in here is the pie and mash shop which was relocated here, nice family business which does the best pie and mash in the area and a solid price, recommend - the chinese/asian shop is also great, i used to live in asia for a little bit and its hard getting some authentic items which this store provides, would recommend also
Good point is these people are hard working and have great products and most people are nice and some are cautious about the people around them, I'm guessing because there is a lack of security and there have been a bunch of hoodlum kids that have been stealing their merchandise. I saw it only once but word is it happens all the time
Went too the Chinese shop and was able to buy everything I needed. I also went to the Teapot cafe who although they were closing made me a cup of tea. I've used this café for many many years, although I'm not a regular. Their food is very fairly priced, freshly cooked and portions are good too. Give it a try nxt time ur in Romford.
Nice little shopping hall, my fav shop it the retro one with the Italian lady, selling old vinyl records and record players etc, also the little animal charity shop upstairs in the corner. The worst is the cafe downstairs, so slow at serving I've actually walked out twice as I've not even been acknowledged. Won't go back in there.
Housedwithin the old Rumford Hall, the premises offer a good cross section of shops & services from T-shirt printing thru clothing alterations to fast food outlets. My personal favourite food stop is on the ground floor, rear left where you can get excellent Pie/Mash/Licquor at sensible prices. STACEY'S is top draw. SG.
Covid has taken over so the footfall here was lower than usual. I was surprised at the number of shops open though, and was very happy to see Cake Box open so queued and patiently waited for my delicious cake. Sam 99p store, M&S, Boots, B&M, Aldi and Iceland were also open and quiet... nothing more to add really...
Shops range from trinkets to musical instruments; Books to clothes on two floors served by escalator. Food is served here. Has pay and display car parking in Market place on non Market days and other car parks are nearby. Buses stop outside and Romford Station is a 10 minute walk away. Has toilet facilities.
Not a bad little indoor market some nice places inside from one of the last habasherys left in the area the needle box really is worth a visit, to antiques and pie and mash, not forgetting of course the butchers next to the pie and mash shop, meat very good and the prices more than reasonable.
It's an old building right behind the new liberty shopping center. Inside the mall there is lovely food stalls, one is Filipino cuisine and the other one is Teaport cafe. Very busy abs very nice atmosphere. It still has its authenticity of being an old mall with small vendors, felt cosy.
Car park often says it's full when it's not. A good range of shops inside the mall. M&S. W.H Smiths & Son. Primark. Card Factory. Hotel Chocolate. New Look. Next. The works to name some well known brands. Outside you have some charity shops. Natwest. Santander. Sainsbury's.
Food was lovely and nice seating you have a good view of Liverpool Street Station and surrounding area from the windows ... can treat yourself to a beer and burger but very over priced and for that reason i can see why most people would still opt for mcds..
Very busy at this time of the year. Although when I think about it, it was not as busy as it has been due to the covid. I am able to get all the things I need under one roof. All good shops and when u go out the mall you have the market on some of the days.
Lovely place having not been there for years i was pleasantly surprised with all the Small businesses there. Pie mash shop, a memorabilia shop! Classic signed photos ect! Boxing, football ect. Book exchange shop. Jewelry repair and lots more.
Bin there for years it has. Used many 1000's of times now, in my case. Lived here since 1974 approx. Need a bit of history to this to complete this review we do.. Looking that up now. Many good pics re summer's now follow. Watch this space!
My favourite shop in Romford is Wright Jewels in the shopping hall. It's a treasure trove of unusual jewellery and it's always my first stop when shopping in Romford. There's a really good Pie and Mash shop next door to it where people
2 floors of local traders trading from small units. Eating area plus traditional cafe type shops also within the Hall. You can buy furniture, Oriental food from the mini supermarket, books, jewellery. Ladies hairdresser plus much more.
The shopping hall has local shops selling value for money items and food. The hall needs alot of regeration to bring it into 2023 as it's still trading like a 90's mall and also could do with newer fresh appealling stores and design.
Greedy council demanding too much rent for small business, hence we lost a wonderful butchers.. Sign of the times, :-(. Just a nice cafe and toilets left... Shame, havering council you should be ashamed of yourself, this and other
Had lunch at the cafe on 2nd floor. Good toilet facilities. Lost its former busyness as there are a lot of empty spaces . Liked the well stocked Chinese store that's been there for years. Apart from that, I won't rush to visit it.
There were arrows on the floor for shoppers to follow but most people ignored them, too many shoppers without masks and each shop I went in I had to ask the person behind me to move back as they were too close. Not happy at all
It's always our main reason to come to town. It has everything we need. The Pearl of the Orient is our one stop shop for all I need to stock up on all my cooking needs. The staff are always welcoming and always happy to help.
Nice place to have a browse around all the small shops that you don't find on the High Street, had a cuppa and a bite to eat at the Hideaway cafe upstairs, they were really friendly and helpful and the food was really good!.
Fantastic place, it has 2 big cafes, pie & mash. And another something to eat . A charity shop. And lots more shops. Friendly staff walking around doing there jobs. Toilets always clean. The mall is always clean and tidy.
Love going Romford on a Sunday as free parking on Liberty. Everything at hand so easy to shop here no need to worry about cars as most of the shops are undercover. Great shopping mall cpme along and find out for yourself.
I first thought its a rundown place, but it sctually has reakly good shops inside and a very nice food upstairs, its Chinese/Filipino restaurant upstairs. They have a dentist and Kids activity which was unexpected.
Ok most shops shut Went Aldis people still picking things and putting them down again. Not nice went to Hawkins butcher's very good meat.Als traffic wardens walking about 2 not 10 cars in market. Made you uneasy.
It was exciting to see Romford market open again. The quality of goods we missed the pandemic. Just hoping all the sellers made it through. Our hearts are still with those we can't see as they were affected .
I had a business in the original shopping hall. Now looking around at its rebuild it does have modern amenities and varied selection of shops but very much lacks the atmosphere and character it once had.
For all the renovation and updates to this once great place, it now feels dingy and depressing. It may have lots of bright lights and shiny chrome, but it just seems to have lost that "special" feeling.
Romford or originally known as Rumford market is a nice convenient covered market within Romford market as several stalls and shops including a Chinese food emporium two cafés,a nice environment
Very pleasant experience had not been there for 12 years exceptionally clean. Very polite shop workers and a really nice trip Looking forward to next trip in a week or two. Well done romford
A good part of Romford and there's not many left. Butchers is superb. Little Chinese shop is brilliant for all things spice and there's a lovely old cafe upstairs for a quick cup of tea.
I used to go quite often when I lived in London it was a brilliant market over the years its deterated and with the closing of Debenham is a big downful for shoppers who go to Romford.
Decent little oriental food mart in there, the staff in the food mart were lovely. Otherwise, the shopping hall as a whole was a bit busted up, but Romford, what more do you expect?!
Could be busy at times. Lots of shop plus parking and reasonable. Hoping to have more food selection or even food court. If you want to travel by bus, bus stops are easy accessible.
Lots of stalls selling a wide variety of wares. Great to walk and have a look around. Food venues also are quite good value for money. Worth having a look if you're ever in Romford.
Very big and nice. You can get every thing whatever you like from here whether it is vegetables or household items or anything relayed to your fashion. It is pocket friendly place.
Nice place to shop Hawkins butchers 10/10 plenty of fresh meat always willing to cut meat down to size . well prepared meat . Clean & tidy + friendly staff. always ready to help .
Some cracking little shops in Romford Shopping Halls. A really wife variety. All the shopkeepers I've had dealings with in there have always been very friendly and very helpful.
Uninviting, run down town, so called impro ements detrimental to the towns heritage. Not visited for many years and will not go again. The dVing grace was the Sweet Things cafe.
A nice place to go for shopping. ...my watch battery sold for ₦500 goes for £34 here. ...I have dropped the watch waiting for whenever I get to Nigeria to replace it …
The cafe downstairs was great. But could not believe how much it had changed upstairs. As I wanted the gifts shop, but found a children's play area. Quite shocked.
Not as vibrant as it was in the past, lovely pie and mash shop though. Interesting that after many years the name has been changed from RUMFORD to ROMFORD.
Often shows here when I lived in Dagenham. Was a visitor last week. Still love the place, friendly faces but miss the big stores that are no longer there
Nice shopping area with plenty of places to eat too. Also has a good children's soft play area on the 1st floor. This place also has toilet facilities.
First time visiting Mcdowell's Pie & Mash inside Romford shopping Hall. It was very clean, quick service and reasonable prices. Would recommend …
Lack of stock, and what remained wasn't quality and well expensive. I thought the ethos of TK Maxx was 60%, or less. Must be an early January thing.
Always something going on here! Nice place to shop. Mall leads out to a outdoor market. Which leads to another shopping center. So plenty to do.
Clean and tidy but very busy and hard to find shops and then all you smell is greasy spoons looked nice food though and was a pleasant place
Not anything good inside appart from the Chinese shop the cafe's are extortionate with the prices and very small portions but food is nice
Hi babe just getting a pedicure just doing some shopping I hope you well missing you loads every day and night can't wait to meet you ❤❤❤❤
Lovely selection of local shops with some tasty and reasonable places to eat. Has two floors and lift as well as toilets with baby change.
Lots of parking and an abundance of shops to suit everyone. Lots of places to eat from fast food to higher end budgets. A great day out.
A very good place for shopping, lots of shops, toilets inside ,and outside, and a market outside there . there is a few Car parking too
Lovely Pie & Mash. Liqueur, yes I would have loved to but I would have probably got a Slap! 27/04/2023 Visited the Cafe. Gorgeous.
Love this place. There's always something for everyone's taste buds here! Loads of shops and places to eat. Big thumbs up! …
Went to the print shop (in prints) owner was very helpful with our requirements, T Shirt printing ect this is the place to look
Romford used to be nice now it's not too many foreigh influences there really gone down hill like many places unfortunately,
Love this place , and the bonus is lovely clean toilets , also a nice filipino restaurant on the upstairs food court …
This place need more attention.Difo need more attractive Shop or Refurbishment Etc.Looke like lots of sunset business here.
What can I say.. my favorite shop "rage" is in here , a nice cafe and afew other shops . Needs more advertising this mall .
Great shopping Hall I always pop into Worldwide Signings who always makes you feel welcome and has top quality memorabilia.
Lots of different shops, I hope no more close down, Romford was great shopping centre back in the day.. preserve it!
Some of the shops I used to visit have now closed so I'd have to say that it's not as good as it used to be.
I only went to a couple of shops but the place is pretty quite from what I remembered it being pre lock down
The market is quite full, with many stalls. Good pie and mash shop in the mall and good 2nd hand book shop.
Plenty of choices of shops. Food, clothing, entertainment, gym, cinema, bars and more. Spoilt for choice..
Such a gem currently decorated for Halloween! Guaranteed to find something to that's suited to your taste
Decent specialist stalls, but a few closed down, regeneration needed, good selection of cafés for lunch.
Parking is good and not too expensive, market outside is decent. Eyelash bar inside is amazing!
Great selection of shops and diners, youll find anything here, and parking is cheap and plentiful
Not as many stall's like there used to be. Still a nice market with some nice bars and cafe's.
That was my first time entering the Romford shopping mall, and I was impressed with what I saw
To be honest only used toilets but deserves 5 stars for having toilets that are open and clean
There is a filipino resto lovely foodies SUNRISE is the best visit is a must …
T shirt Print shop provided an amazing service as always with embroidered logos …
I've visited your store in the past. I like the atmosphere. It's very pleasant in here.
Not as many shops as there used to be and toilets were not in a good condition at all
Good range of independent shops. Love taking the kids to see Santa there at Christmas
Plenty of choices. Everything there you could want in my opinion. Defo worth a visit.
Few good shops like alpha books. It seems aload are shutting and hall is a bit dated
Handy little shopping mall for all your needs there's a car park nearby too. …
A great place to shop in, with a few places to eat and drink, Recommended.
Totally rubbish. Nothing like the thriving little market hall I remember.
Only seen from the outside as it seems very uninviting so unable to help
Lovely mall with lots of clothing stores healthy kiosks and not crowdy.
