If you are considering buying a new or used vehicle from Ron Tonkin Toyota, specifically from the location on 122nd in Portland, you should do yourself a favor and take the time to read this review. Ask yourself what is most important to you when you are making a significant purchase. Ron Tonkin Toyota claims, “That from the moment you step inside their dealership, the friendly staff strives to create a hassle-free car buying experience. Make your way to Ron Tonkin Toyota for quality vehicles and professional service every step of the way.” Unfortunately, this is not what has happened in this situation. Let me be clear this is the 4th vehicle I have purchased from this dealership, so I am not a disgruntled one-time customer. What I am, is a repeat customer who expects a company to live by what they say, and when you have purchased a vehicle, you’ve been told an inspection has been completed, you bring it back for normal service and an alignment, only to find out in the service video that something has been leaking for a period of time and you will now owe over 5k for a vehicle you have owned less than 9 months. So instead of Ron Tonkin Toyota living and demonstrating what is so boldly written on their website. They have destroyed what they attempt to live by each day and have cost themselves a repeat customer not only in purchasing new vehicles, but I will also never return to their service center with my current Toyota vehicles as I simply cannot trust their quality or their word! Ask yourself what do you want your experience to be like when you make a 40k dollar purchase??

TLDR: Ron Tonkin wanted me to spend $5.3k on unnecessary repairs when all my car needed was new tires. If you need a reliable auto shop, go to Same Day Auto. I purchased a Toyota Sequoia from Ron Tonkin Toyota January of 2023. Not long after purchase I noticed it would drift significantly to the right (if I took my hands off the steering wheel I would make a lane change). I expressed my concern and brought it in for an alignment and was told all is good. Same thing happened and brought it in again. *repeat this for a total of 3 alignments in a 6 month period* At this point I mentioned that an alignment clearly isn't fixing the problem and that they need to take a deeper look. They did and then mentioned my vehicle needed $5.3k in repairs. Imagine my frustration when I find out a car I purchased under a year from them needed so much work done. I asked if there was anything they could do since we have been a repeat customer for years. They offered to take off $500. I went to Same Day Auto on hwy 213 for a second opinion. Turns out I did need to replace a part but it would be $1k (not $5k) AND what it actually needed was new tires. NEW TIRES! That's it! The ones on the SUV were $80 from Walmart. Ron Tonkin wanted me to spend thousands on repairs that weren't necessary and wouldn't have even fixed the problem.

I was in the market for a new Tacoma trd pro. I had basically searched the entire Portland area with no luck, until I found Ron Tonkin Toyota. Got in contact with Bob Mercer who found one for me with all the options I wanted and decided to put deposit down, but was going to have to wait for several months for it to arrive. Bob was great in keeping me in the loop with weekly updates on the vehicle until it arrived. Once it arrived I went down to the dealership and the leasing process was extremely easy and to be honest faster than I have experienced before which was nice. Once Bob got everything squared away on his end it was time to sign and was taken into the finance area. Normally this part is kind of boring or unpleasant with just lots of signing and not much more. Well Daniel in finance did great, explaining everything I was signing and making sure he answered all my questions. Never felt like I was being pressured into something I didn’t want, and just like that everything was done. Great experience from both of them would highly recommend.

I wish I can give this dealership 0 star. I got ripped off by their service department. Initially I came in for an oil change because I had remaining services from their care package. The advisor then recommended to replace drive belt and spark plug. I’m not a car person, so I did not know how much those things were going to cost. I agreed to replace them because I expected the dealership to be reasonable with their pricing. Little did I know, they charged me a total of almost $900 to replace the spark plug, including a damn 3.9 hours or $731 of labor. It would only cost about $250 to replace spark plug at an independent repair shop. What a scam! The entire service time didn’t even take them 2 hours. I called their service department about this, but they kept arguing that what they charged was right, even if it didn’t take them that much time. So BEWARE if you are going to get your cars serviced here. You will get charged a ton of labor for little things. I for sure won’t take my cars here again!

From the moment I went online w Ron Tonkin Toyota I was impressed. I had shopped around w other dealers and did not get the level of service & attentiveness I received from Nathan. I hate to say it but other dealers were not motivated for my business. Nathan was not pushy, applied no pressure. He was there for me at every turn, answering every question and concern. Receiving personal videos was was coup de grâce. What a nice touch. On my first visit Nathan was busy and Jonathan took over explaining every detail to me. He went over all charges so there were no surprises. It was at that point I knew I was going to buy from Ron Tonkin Toyota. The last person I met with was Jenny and what a gem she is. Obviously she’s well versed and does an excellent job. She is easy to talk with and has superb customer service skills. All in all buying a new car was a positive experience. Original quote from their service center was $5300 after they had already done an inspection twice and claimed to have fixed it. Upon the 3rd inspection this is when they said it will take $5300 to fix a car that I have owned roughly 9 months. Unwilling to believe that was the solution I reached out to a local service shop and received an exceptional level of customer service and the final price quoted from that service shop for the same repair, same amount of work was $1800. As you could imagine I was blow away by this cost difference. Unfortunately, this was such a poor experience that I had through the service shop, I will never spend another dime at their dealership whether it is to service my currently owned Toyotas or purchase a new vehicle.

I love Ron Tonkin Toyota. I was immediately welcomed and attended by Jean-Luc. He greatly and patiently walked me through all my options. He found two cars that I was considering and took me on a test drive. He allowed me to fully experience the car and answered any questions if I had any. I let him know I was just looking at cars not looking to purchase yet but his service was still top tier. The car didn’t convince me so I ended up not buying it. But the service I received from Jean-Luc is worth praising. I highly recommend you pay him a visit when you’re looking to buy your next car. He never pressured me and even offered a great price on the car. If I’m ever on the market for a new car again, I will definitely return here.

So when we did decide to come back a week later we asked for Ali again, and he helped us buy our new Hybrid Rav 4. He was so easy to work with. Due to the amazing inventory available at Ron Tonkin Toyota, I was able to locate a 4Runner in the trim and color combination that I was seeking. The staff at this location were pleasant, but my Sales Specialist, Maksim Borkin, was excellent! He was knowledgable regarding all of the features of the current model and was able to differentiate what made this trim unique and special. Passively while talking, he was able to demonstrate in depth knowledge about all of the Toyota lineup. I believe that Maksim would be able to assist you in getting educated about any vehicle within the fleet and will aid you in finding your dream Toyota.

As of late I would be skeptical having your vehicle serviced here. We had our rav4 serviced for a front brake replacement recently and everything appeared to be okay when we picked up the vehicle. Fast forward 12,000 miles later while having our rav4 serviced at a different dealer (Gresham toyota) they told us we needed new front brake pads due to faulty hardware that was installed. Ron Tonkin toyota did not properly install our pads and now we have to fork up more money to get the brakes fix. Make sure you read Ron Tonkin's disclaimer when you pick up and sign for your vehicle. Beware of their service.

Like most of the dealerships, the major of the business in Ron Tonkin Toyota is sales, but when it comes to service, this place is horrible, I took my car for the 5K service, and I got my car back with a loose nut lug and 2 missing wheels valve cover, I don't know about others, but this is highly a safety issue and a bad reputation for Toyota owners, I highly recommend you not taking your Toyota to this place if you are out of warranty, because there are so many honest mechanics all over Portland and suburbs to take a good care of your car, I'm not going back to this place for my future services.

My car was totaled and we just had a baby so we were very focused on safety but worried about a big car payment. Jonathan, "Big John", listened to all our concerns, are must-haves and deal breakers. Johnathan was very patient with my wife and I being slow to decide. In the end we found the perfect car for our family and dogs. Jonathan was friendly, very patient and not pushy I am very happy with the car we ended up with and it fit into our family budget. Highly recommend working with Big John. Also highly recommend the Rav-4 Prime, especially if you have kids and dogs!

Our sales person Thai Nguyen, has again come through for us. Amazing customer service, he listens and understands exactly what I am looking for and what I want. I’m about 1 1/2 to 2 hours away and would not think or consider driving that far for a car, but because of Thai my wife and I don’t hesitate on making that drive, because we know Thai would take good care of us. This is our 3rd car with Thai and we plan to go back to him again in the future. Beginning to end it was an easy and painless process! Thank you Thai and we look forward to working with again soon.

Been coming here for 10+ years for services and rarely had any issue but not this time. I received a text message that my vehicle was ready for pickup. My dad asked the guy where the car was parked and was told lot 6 (on the right side of the service center as usual). He spent 30-40 mins looking for the car and couldn’t find it. Finally he found the car near the Mazda dealership with all the new cars, and the car was full of smell of marijuana. How many stars would you rate this experience? Giving an extra star only for the service I received for the past years.

He and the Ron Tonkin Toyota team were able to quickly find a manual Tacoma TRD Off Road I was looking for (there may have been some trading luck and timing involved too). Nathan was great at keeping me updated while the truck went through the shipping and delivery process. I appreciate everything he did to help me through the purchasing process. He really went the extra mile by coming in on his day off for this, and he even helped me return a rental car and a stop by the bank. I can't thank him enough, and I love my new truck!!!

Ali Rahima helped me into a 2023 Rav 4 Hybrid, when it was really hard to get one! He was fair and easy to work with, for a person who is nervous like me, he comes off as experienced and not rushed. He even remembered my dad, recognized my last name. He was emphasizing the heated steering wheel, and I was just sort of ignoring that because I didn’t care much, but then a few mornings later when I jumped in the freezing car, I remembered him, and flicked on that heater, VERY NICE. Haha. He was right

Takoda Hesselgesser is the name you want to ask for. He overcame my hesitation after reading so many 1star reviews. Was kind. Helpful. Honest. (Which was weird) and genuinely a cool dude. Even snagged a car from another lot and brought it over for me to test drive and ultimately buy. Very glad I came in and had Takoda help me! 10/10 would recommend! My wife and I recently purchased a used 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 from Ron Tonkin Toyota in Portland. Bryant McDaniel was our contact for this sale and explained the features of the vehicle, arranged for the test drive and did the initial paperwork. Everything went smoothly and we were soon on our way home with the truck. Bryant and all the other staff were very accommodating and made us feel comfortable throughout the entire process.

The service guys didn’t tight the bolts. It was loose. I was driving in the freeway and and my car start shaking and I pulled over and all the tires were also ready to come out. I even lost one bolt on one of the back tires. I had to grab the tool from my truck and tight all 4 tires. Ton Tokin put me and my family in danger. I drove my one year old daughter and my wife in the car. Thinks would ended up bad for us but thank god.

Very helpful, and clean dealership, with solid prices on used vehicles. Rene Ovalle made an extra effort to get the car I wanted to the dealership, and was helpful and honest with discussing financing options with me. Much better experience than the last dealership/salesman I dealt with purchasing my last vehicle.
