Such a great place for art. Went twice and had a really pleasant experience the first time. Friendly folks at the main building and the studio! Second time I brought some friends who hadn't been since the first time was pleasant. We started at the studio and the woman working there just said hi and continued talking to two other ladies. When my friend got close to the mirror piece she snapped and yelled at him twice to not touch it and continued talking to the other two folks. Complete 180 from the gentleman we had on the first visit who informed us nicely not to touch the exhibit right when we came in. Put a damper on the evening until we went to the main building where the folks working there were much friendlier.

It sounds like a wonderful place, but they’re still living in fear and fear mongering the community requiring masks in the month of May 2022. I believe in the constitutional right to decide if you want to mask or not at this point. I spoke to Randy over the phone to book a visit, and he communicated that it was internal policies. I hope they lift the mask requirement many of us have fought to remove from numerous business owner mask nazis, and I hope it’s soon because they’re late in retracting from this excessive imposition. I’d love to take my kids to visit when they finally grant us our freedoms back. Please let me know down the road when that may occur. Thank you.

Ruby City is an incredible little contemporary art museum and such a gem in San Antonio. Before visiting, book an appointment on the website (free!). The museum building is an architectural marvel. Since it's not a very large museum, I would plan for an hour at most. I highly recommend also visiting Chris Park, located a very short walk away from the main museum. This park is beautifully landscaped with sculptures and art throughout. The park also has a separate studio space with rotating exhibits.

A serendipitous encounter. I’m so glad that I visited while I was in San Antonio. The collection is absolutely first class: Teresita Fernández, Marina Abramović, Rachel Whiteread, Do Ho Suh, and many more – the place was like a key that opened the gate of my memory, objects and moments I was so fond of kept flooding out. What’s equally impressive is the staff there: every one was knowledgeable about the artworks and actively engaged the visitors with interpretations and stories about the works.

This art museum is free with an appointment. You can park free on Camp Street or in the designated parking lot at 1203 S Flores St. As of October 2022 masks are required inside. The modern art is primarily on the second floor, which you can take the stairs or elevator to. Behind the building is the sculpture garden. Across the road is Chris Park which is a lovely small park. At the end of Park is a small studio with more art. The whole experience was lovely and really fun.

Despite some of the pieces are gorgeous I have to give a one star review due to the extremely rude person in the front desk (bearded white guy on glasses), I went there with the family and seemed like he just didn't like us, making us feel really uncomfortable, he even yelled at us twice and scared the little ones, I was very sorry to realize they are not inclusive even when they state the opposite, how sad and what a shame, when we left he was maliciously smiling, I'm an IT professional and my wife is a Doctor, we were just not fancy enough for him. I'd never come back.

As you approach the red building you notice the amazing architecture. The backyard has a small garden and sculpture. The garden is loaded with butterflies. The sculpture is of scraped aircraft parts and looks like it is floating in space. Inside the staff are friendly, informative, and helpful. Exhibits are wonderful and thought provoking. Place is clean and very well maintained. The experience was super. Note to visit is always free.

Gorgeous space; well-curated, provocative artworks, many by regional artists; and a very chill and knowledgeable staff. Don't miss their garden (we were there when butterfly migration was full on and it was magical) and the small affiliated park across the street. They evidently ask you to book in advance online, which I totally missed, but we were there pretty early, so no problem accommodating us.

This is such a jewel in this city. Almost an untouched ruby because there’s so much contemporary art, and almost lots of empty space. But the staff is very knowledgeable and very assuming the best of each artist they were willing to present to you. Because it’s not crowded that actually works out to have personal tours of each of the displays at Ruby city.

AWESOME free two story museum with indoor AND outdoor exhibits! the caveat is that you need to make a reservation for your visit before you walk into the gallery. lots of eclectic art with a theatre like movie room! gotta love the butterflies prancing about the flowers outside near the deconstructed airplane sculpture! the studio across the street at chris park is also small yet great. gotta come visit this free spot!

One of the many things that makes San Antonio cooler than Austin. So much in San Antonio is understated and underrepresented but incredibly cool and forward thinking. This is one of those places. Well curated in an incredible building with a super cozy park to chill in before or after your tour.

What a fun experience and FREE too. Ruby City is so much more than the contemporary art museum itself. There’s a beautiful park and studio with more art inside as well. I loved walking around and can’t wait for the next exhibits. We did make an appointment for our walkthrough beforehand.

Lovely art museum for an afternoon of fun with the family. Parking is free and so is the museum. Centrally located so you are close to the action in case you'd like to do something else during the day. We spent a total of about two hours viewing the gallery and the park across the street.

It's not just a museum, it's a contemporary art campus with multiple areas to wander around and enjoy. The exhibits are multicultural and multidimensional so there is something for everyone to enjoy and think about. I learned some things and was blown away by the video art displays in both buildings. Hoping to return soon. Oh, and this place is a nonprofit with free entrance and parking. So dope!

  • Nan Palmero, MBA

Ruby City is a gem in our city. A free gem, to boot. The building is sparkly and stunning on the outside with the proper starkness of a modern art museum inside. There are great places to shoot photos. My favorite part of the experience was the video room. With three projectors set up, the vignettes are big and bold and mesmerizing. Don’t miss it. I look forward to additional pieces being added.

  • Andrew Bond

Superb contemporary gallery with a mixture of 2D and 3D works from their collection. Ed and Abby were amazing hosts and were highly knowledgeable in both the works on display and the artists. The architecture is also sunning, with such precise delivery rarely seen in construction. Accessibility is excellent The rest of Texas should be brought here to understand what Accessibility actually means.

  • Catherine Wittel

Do not miss this museum. The artwork is incredible. The video installation currently showing is moving. The docents and the people who greet you at the door are so welcoming. Usually I feel like I don't belong in museums and the snoot factor is high -- not this place. Everyone belongs and that is exactly how they make you feel when you come to this most unusual and creative space.

  • Tom Williams

Interesting museum and certainly worth the visit. Unfortunately, it was a little difficult to reach due to lots of road construction so Google maps was of little help. Also, one of the 3 exhibit areas was closed the day we went. But it's worth going back.

It was pretty okay, It wasn’t what I expected since I had seen TikTok’s but I guess they were from a whole back and they changed the exhibit, so I didn’t really get to see what I wanted to see but they have a few things from last year so if you’re interested you should I definitely go!! It was a nice experience to have a small chill date with your man or girl

  • Delilah Rose

This place was really neat! I enjoyed all the art, and the staff was especially helpful. Petunia answered all my questions, and was very involved with the art. She definitely made my experience here even better, I will definitely be back! :)

Cute and quaint contemporary art museum. There is a separate studio to view specific collections and a garden outside. The main building also has a seating area outside in the back which is great for enjoying the weather and chatting with friends after viewing the galleries or to spend some quiet time alone. Helpful and friendly staff; keep it up, very welcoming!

  • Abigail Billingsley

Amazing works on view! Very thoughtful. The hang of the work is perfect!! Staff is so knowledgeable and kind. Would HIGHLY recommend checking out the Amy Cutler exhibition they have on view in their smaller gallery space located in the park! 10/10 the best art galleries in SA ;)

Great, small, intimate museum. The design of the exhibits are well spaced and give you time to reflect on each piece of work. The staff was very helpful and nice. One of the exhibits required two people and a staff person helped me out.

It’s a bright new day at Ruby City. If you love art than check out this new venue in San Antonio that will change your perspective about what art is all about. Special continued thanks to Linda Pace, whose continued generosity helps art in San Antonio flourish and helps artists all around the world. Ruby City is a gift you will want to visit again and again.

Beautiful evening at Chris Park listening to local jazz musicians—Aaron Prado & his band & vocalist Jacqueline Sotello performed tonight. Music in the Park was a free event and sponsored by KRTU & Ruby City. Ruby City even provided free beverages, chilled Rose. Chris Park is a gem, charming and intimate venue. Thanks KRTU & Ruby City for a wonderful evening!

  • Michael Tran

Absolutely beautiful space. Free admission year round, with art that covers all walks of life and very reflective of where San Antonio is heading as a city. Elements of David Adjaye's architectural prowess are absolutely present here, and it lends to the journey you get going through the museum. Highly recommend to everyone visiting San Antonio.

Its an okay museum, it has potential but the contemporary art and sculpture garden can have more spice to them, perhaps art classes, different types of art or something for tourism. It is a museum to check out though.

One of my favorite museums in the country. Unique and diverse artwork. Fantastic building with many different mediums, smells, sounds, and obviously sights. Free and my favorite thing in SA. Went early and was the only person there (besides the friendly staff) and I had a spiritual experience. A must visit. Will go back again.

  • 210 Red Raider

What an eclectic, creative space that you don't want to miss, both inside & out! You also can't afford not to visit, since the admission is free! Chris Park is across the street & has a separate small gallery nested inside the green. The parking lot is all the way down the street, so you'll have to walk down to get in!

  • Des Rey

Came across this gem while searching up free museums. Admission is Free! It houses local and international art work. Very nice place . The ladies working there were very knowledgeable and took their time to share facts about the art work, artists, and founder of the museum. We will definitely be visiting again !

Excellent museum , I like very much the installation, the garden and the video exhibition it’s amazing!! I’m not a artist and enjoy so much the museum. You don’t need so much time to see it , like one hour and a half , they have a free parking and the entrance to the museum its free!!

  • Michele J

Linda Pace’s dream of Ruby City, has come to light. This free art center is a true gift to the community and visitors of San Antonio. This beautiful building designed by Sir David Adjaye will house her personal contemporary art collection. This is a must to visit when in San Antonio!

  • Shannon Deason

Almost as ugly as his hideous barnacle on the National Mall. Linda Pace’s house in Terrell Hills was a gorgeous modern design by Lake/ Flato, this, however, looks like an offspring of Cisneros grotesque Red Enchilada Homeless Shelter hilariously masquerading as the Central Library.
