I wasn't murdered in my sleep. 5 stars. Last week we took the scouts up to Rudy's Flat for an overnight camping trip. We had a pleasant evening playing Mafia and telling ghost stories. As it came time to go to bed, we were standing around the fire discussing our morning plans when a lone college aged woman seemingly appeared out of nowhere by our fire. She had started her hike late and didn't expect a solo night hike to be as scary as it was. She asked if she was at Rudy's Flat, we told her she was, and she left to go find a camping spot. A few minutes later she came back and asked if she could sleep by our fire. We told her that was fine, asked her if she needed anything, and then we all turned in for the night. I have to say that I couldn't fall asleep right away. because this situation seemed too much like the opening scenes of a horror movie and I was afraid I was going to be murdered in my sleep. My fears were unfounded and the night was fairly uneventful. In the morning we chatted with our new friend for a few minutes while we prepared breakfast and then she went on her way. The only bad thing I could say about Rudy's Flat is that whatever agency/department/government organization that is supposed to maintain the road to the North Canyon trail head should be embarrassed. Each year that road is worse than the previous year and without maintenance will soon be undriveable.
Just made the hike a few days ago. 12-mile round trip from Mueller Park trailhead to Rudy’s Flat and back. It took about 5 hours. Budget 6 hours for exploration and more relax times along the way. I’m a more casual/exercise hiker. Boost in short spurts. Great views, often smells nice along the trails. From the trailhead to Elephant Rock the scenery is more deciduous, as in you’re more likely to see autumn colors. From Elephant Rock to Rudy’s Flat the greenery is considerably more alpine in nature. More secluded. The trail is also much quieter since less people continue on from Elephant Rock. The trail is almost always shaded as others have said, so sunscreen isn’t really needed unless you’re at Rudy’s Flat at noontime. Know that going back down isn’t all that much faster than coming up. On the way down, sometimes you’ll meet biking teams and you’ll have to wait for them. I have seen a minimal amount of “Karen” and “COVIDiots” on this trail. From my experience, 25% of the people I meet are super nice, 50% are neutral, and the rest are unresponsive or oblivious. Not a bad distribution. I’ll definitely make the trek again...after the soreness wears off .
This is a great primitive campsite. There are plenty of places to setup tents. Rudy's Flat can handle large groups with ease. It can get busy on a summer weekend, but you won't feel like you're on top of each other. There is no water here, so bring plenty of your own. There's not even a nearby creek to get water from. You're likely to see wildlife. Take the shorter, steeper hike up from North Canyon, or the longer, more gradual hike from Mueller Park.
I love biking or motorcycling to Rudys flat. You can camp here, also. Great views of the valley only a short walk away. A lot of mountain bike traffic during the day, especially the weekend. This is a multi use trail, so don't be surprised to see horses, motorcycles, etc. This is also a fun snowshoe destination in the winter, only a few miles uphill from north canyon.
A great hike or bike ride from either North Canyon or Mueler Park Canyon teails. This is a favorite spot for scouts and locals alike for a nice overnight campout. No services and bring something to filter your own water but a nice open space with great views and shady trees.
Along a pretty trail but not remarkable in itself. This is not any kind of organized camp ground but people do camp here. Access is by dirt trail only. There is quite a bit of mountain bike traffic here, a few hikers and some equestrian and dirt bike traffic.
Perfect for my first ever attempt at backpacking. An easy hike up North Canyon trail, and there were clearly a few campsites around to choose from, including some with trees well spaced for my hammock! Very quiet and peaceful with some pretty views.
I believe it was once called Buckland Flats or Frenchmen's Flats back in the late 50's and 60's. Got caught in a terrible thunder storm when coming back down to Bountiful with a group of friends and I'll never forget it.
The trail after Elephant Rock is generally softer and narrower. Rocky in only a few places. Mostly shaded by trees. Fewer people make the trek higher. Mostly bikers. A few runners. It’s more peaceful. Enjoy!
Horrible place with the worst views ever. Satanic rituals and murderers live here. Don’t come here. Elevation is way too high and you’ll probably faint and never make it out.
But don't go there. Nothing to see here. Don't want it to get too crowded. I heard a moose this evening. An hour bike ride from my house. Bountiful can be cool ;-)
Great destination with good views. If you bike, the portion from Rudy's to Elephant Rock is especially fun. I prefer coming up North Canyon to avoid the crowds.
Rudy's is a great ride and has fantastic views. From the trail, right below the campgrounds, you can see from the SLC airport all the way to Ogden.
Hike here almost 3 times a week in the summer from the north canyon side. Peaceful and quiet. Watch out for high speed mtn bikers.
Amazing backpacking spot. A creek fit too filter out of is only a half mile north on the trail, and the hike isn't very long.
Beautiful destination spot! Recent trail maintenance has made the trail better for mountain biking.
Beautiful place with a beautiful view. A little difficult to get to making it all the more special.
Not actually a campground but biking the Mueller Park trail has been a favorite of mine for years
No water within 100yds, wouldn't camp there, it is not a campground, pretty day hike and run
Great hike and bike trails. Beautiful scenery! Breath taking views!
Great trail and a great place to rest after finishing the climb
What a great place to grab a snack and take a break.
Cool as heck was a 7 mile hike/ run to get to it tho
Great view of the valley. Usually pretty secluded.
Beautiful spot. Worth the hike, run, or bike.
Great mountain bike ride from Mueller park
It was a fun hike and has good rest spot
Almost as good as Cats the musical
Great MTB trail! Fast and flowy
Killer destination.
