I have only visited this hospital once, but before that one visit I was truly grateful and impressed. I had an emergency with my 12 year old senior dog. The situation was progressive and she started to bleed for over a day. She was past the normal at home remedies and because of her age I knew she needed to be seen. I called her vet of 3 years and they said they were completely booked. I feel that my dog bleeding should take precedence over someone refilling a prescription. Not to say thats not important but bleeding should take some precedence. On the 7th try I called S&S. The gentleman at the desk looked through their appointments and told me he would make room for me whenever I could get there. It took me almost 30 minutes to get there but we were in a room in less than 15 minutes. The tech James was amazing! He walked in the door greeting my dog, which to me is great because I knew his priority was the same as mine... My dog. He let me know right off that he would draw blood and look her over. Because they were booked for the day the vet could not see her but the vet would do the analysis and let me know if there was something serious. He even took her to potty before he drew blood because I mentioned she looked like she needed to go. Bottom line he was attentive, caring, and took his time to truly care for her. Although the trip was a bit expensive I don't feel ripped off. They also called to follow up on her blood work and said everything looked great and didn't try to book me for extra test or sell me on extras just to make a buck. If the vets there are anything like James they have 3 new patients and a happy new client. A big thank you to S&S for making time when 6 other clinics didn't and James for caring.

Let me tell you about my experience with Smith & Shedd. My dog was a client of theirs for nearly ten years, since she was 9 weeks old. Most everyone that cares for their pet feels as if their pet is the most beloved pet and deserving of all the attention. I feel S&S did the best they could to ensure they also felt the same way. No matter what question I had or what service was needed, I always felt that Ezri was important to them. Even when I moved out of San Antonio, I still kept S&S because I could not fathom the idea of trying to find a replacement vet. When I had to be referred out for surgical/oncology consults, I still relied on S&S to ease my my ennui when I felt the other hospital wasn't delivering the type of service I had grown so accustomed to with S&S. When the day came that my little one lost the war to cancer, I called Robin crying from the other hospital and they were able to get me in that day to send my little one to rainbow bridge. The experience for such a depressing situation was way better than what I had at the other hospital. Up until her final moments, S&S took such great care of us. S&S has my highest recommendation for a veterinary office. It is still too soon for me to get another little one, but when I do I will continue to be a S&S client.

Have been bringing my pets to Smith and Shedd for three years and am very happy with the quality of service. I trust them to provide the best care. My last dog was diagnosed with a heart condition by another vet and given six months to live. I brought him to Smith and Shedd at the recommendation of a friend and I believe the treatment he received was the reason he lived for over 30 months, not six. I was initially hesitant about the amount of drugs prescribed, but I now realize just how much they improved his quality of life; Schroeder was as happy and energetic as a puppy up until his very last day. The vets would also provide me with information about low-sodium dog foods, omega-3 supplements and let me know of all the options available. When i had questions about the medications prescribed, the vets would consult multiple medical and veterinary resources while I was in the office. They would double check the dosing calculations, check for drug interactions and explain how each medicine helped. It was very reassuring to see that they valued my concerns and would take the time to ensure I understood.

I had to have my Ginger put down yesterday - she was 14 years old and I knew she was in pain. I called the office and the receptionist was so sweet and caring. She said I didn’t need an appointment - to just come in any time. When I got there they were waiting on me and took us immediately in. The lady that was there with me was so comforting and let me take all the time I needed. She walked me thru the whole process so I knew what to expect. Dr Smith came in and he was so sympathetic and understanding to how upset I was to lose my baby. I’m sorry I didn’t get everyone’s name but they know who they were - I will forever appreciate all of them. Then today I had a package delivered - when I opened it up, it was a book titled “Dog Heaven” along with a note from Dr Smith to let me know I was in his thoughts and prayers. What a beautiful gesture to make! Thanks so much from the bottom of my heart! This caring attitude at S & S Vet is the absolute best. I hope all pet owners will go here - they will definitely feel that their babies ate given the very best treatment and care.

Our dog had a medical emergency during Thanksgiving week. We called S&S as our regular vet had no openings until the following week. The staff were so understanding and asked us to drop off our pup, Yen, even though they were fully booked for the whole week. The Vet Tech, Jennifer, was incredibly knowledgeable and compassionate, and was so sweet to our baby who has always been so afraid of the vet. Dr. Smith called us later that day and took the time to explain everything they had tested for and what he suspected the issue was. They kept our dog overnight and ensured that she received the best care. We were able to pick her up the following afternoon, and we could tell that they were so loving towards her! She was feeling SO much better and was so comfortable around all the staff members. This is the best experience we have had with a vet team, and will absolutely be back for all future appointments for our pup. Thank you all for taking our baby in and treating her like your own! I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who wants quality care for their pets.

I have two new pups, one is a rat terrier mix who came to us infected with parvovirus. I knew nothing about parvovirus I just knew she was sick and something was not right with her. I called Smith & Shedd explained her symptoms and they got her in right away. It was then I learned about parvovirus. My pup was admitted into their treatment area and received around the clock care for 4 days. Amazing care! She is now running around and full of energy! Since that time we have had numerous visits to S&S for her vaccinations and the team is always friendly and patient with my questions. Also the doctors and staff guided me on how to keep my other new fur baby safe from parvovirus. The explained the disinfection process for my home and the needed quarantine/separation of the two pups. It’s was tough and felt like forever but S&S was with me every step of the journey. They have provided complete care - all vaccines- for my second pup as well. I am very thankful for all members of S&S Family Pet Hospital! Great care and great team who love what they do.

I can't say enough good things about Smith & Shedd. We've been going to them since we moved to San Antonio and they have always gone above and beyond. From the front office staff to the vet techs to both Dr. Smith and Dr. Shedd-Garza, every employee at Smith & Shedd has been exceptionally kind and helpful. Even after moving across town, I still bring my pets here because I know that we will be well taken care of. In 2014 I trapped a badly injured feral cat and Smith & Shedd was more than happy to take her in and work with me while she was patched up and socialized, which took months of bringing her in nearly every week! Even now when I bring my other pets in, the vet techs and vets ask how she's doing. I really feel like a valued member here instead of just another customer. I had a rough situation with a pet recently, and Smith & Shedd once again went above and beyond. I cannot express how much I appreciate this practice and the people there. Thank you so much for all you have done for my family and continue to do!

I took my Baby girl to Smith&Shedd because her current vet is located rather far from here. She was having difficulty with her breathing and I determined that it would be best to take her to the closest vet that was open and available to see her. They immediately assisted me and she was examined by Dr. Garcia. Dr. Garcia, was very thorough, caring and concerned about her breathing. She requested all the x-rays that were taken at her vet earlier that morning and did her own examine and compared them. She then informed me of what was going on and proceeded to do everything heavenly possible to help my Baby girl. Although, I lost her I know that she receive the best care that could be given. My sincere thanks to Dr. Garcia and the staff for their support, care, and understanding of how difficult it was for me to lose her. They were so professional, caring, and supportive to my Baby girl and me. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for giving my Baby girl the time and such special care during her time of need.

I have been a pet parent at Smith and Shedd for about three years now. I was introduced to them after purchasing my first french bulldog who was very healthy as a puppy (besides the usual skin allergies as most bulldogs are prone to) but later became very sick and eventually determined was born special needs. He required regular vet visits and seven round the clock heavy medications between cluster seizures, pancreatitis, jaundice, etc. He was the love of my life and also my greatest heartbreak. S&S took such beautiful care of him during the best and worst parts of his short life and stood by me along the way when emotionally, I could not bear the weight. The team and doctors here are my family forever and I will always be a Smith and Shedd pet parent. I am so thankful for the love, support, kindness, and generosity they showed to me and my Rhino during his lifetime and that which they continue to show for my new Frenchie. I absolutely recommend this family to everyone with pets.

I took my cat in to look at her teeth. I sent them her records ahead of time. She can’t be vaccinated because she had an anaphylactic reaction that almost killed her. I was charged a full exam fee if $70 to look at her teeth. Then I was told they wouldn’t clean her teeth if she wasn’t vaccinated. Why didn’t they tell me up front before I came? I also wanted them to look at her ears and trim her nails. They told me since she isn’t vaccinated if she bites anyone, they will give her to the state to quarantine her for 2 weeks. Consequently, I had to take her home and clean her ears myself. I went to another vet. They aren’t requiring her to be vaccinated to clean her teeth. They didn’t mind doing procedures with her without turning her over to the state. They need to tell people their policies up front not after you get there. I wasted my money and had to haul my cat in for nothing

I made my appointment a month in advance for my dog to have a tumor removed. I brought her in, and they gave me the rundown on the cost (Unbelievably expensive) but... I love my dog, and she needed the operation so I agreed. They were going to do her blood work, perform the operation, and as an added bonus, clip her nails. The doctor never showed up! They kept my dog without food and water in a kennel all day, and didn't feel the need to call me until late afternoon to tell me that they weren't able to perform the operation, and they wanted to keep her overnight (which I would be charged for) Infuriated, I went and picked up my dog. They charged me $180 for the blood work, and needle disposal. They didn't even clip her nails. I will never return to this BUSINESS, and have made it my life's work to steer any and everybody away from this shoddy establishment.

Only giving one star because they were able to give us a diagnosis for my dog which is cancer. They said immediately that they can’t do anything for her, and that they can refer me to an oncologist. That’s fine, but they never followed up with me about my dog, didn’t care enough to even offer medication to treat her symptoms, nothing. Went to Deerfield Animal Hospital a couple months later and they did say the same thing, but they actually went out of their way to do some other tests and to provide some medication for my dog so she can feel comfortable as long as she’s alive. Deerfield Animal Hospital actually cared about my dog’s health and they called me to ask me how my dog was doing with her new medication. I would NOT recommend going to Smith and Shedd-they do not care about your dog’s wellbeing, go to Deerfield Animal Hospital instead.

My furbaby’s health recently declined over the past year, and we went from annual checks to almost every other week checks - a pet parents worst nightmare. I went to the same vet for years but recently moved closer to S&S. At first I was nervous to continue care with a new clinic, especially after forming a long-term relationship with my previous vet…but I’m glad I made the switch. My furbaby has had frequent and abrupt health scares, leading to me to reach out to S&S much more than I’d like to, but everyone who has helped me has always been kind and sympathetic…and not made me feel like the over-concerned pet parent I am! On top of that, the Dr’s are top notch, and I’ve met or spoken with all 3 to vouch. Though my dog may not be in the best health, I’m glad in her time of need she will be getting the best care I can give to her.

The staff at the front desk are always very friendly and accommodating both over the phone and in person! They truly try to do everything they can to work with your schedule. The techs sincerely care about your pets and always try to make them feel comfortable during any situation. They are also a very good resource of knowledge. And the doctors are amazing! Dr. Smith always takes the time to talk to you about your pet's condition and is very personable and knowledgeable. No matter how busy they are, he never seems like he's trying to rush with the process. He always takes his time and answers any questions you may have. Even though we now live a little further from the clinic, we refuse to go anywhere else. It is definitely worth the drive for the quality care we receive here. Highly recommend!! You won't be disappointed!

Scheduled an appointment at 1:00pm for my lovable . I was told by the office they had scheduled 3 appointments at the same time. She was seen 1.5 hours later. I called the office twice to let them know we were outside waiting and after explaining our situation of only arriving 6 min late I was hung up by Courtney and then Brianna; office staff. Although my Layla received her rabies vaccination we left highly disappointed ☹️ I was satisfied with the care of Dr. smith but office staff has to be retrained to schedule correctly and respond more positively to all their patients/clients. I spoke with the manager Robin and she resolved the issue at hand. I will be seeking services elsewhere.

I’ve been going to Smith and Shedd for over 15 years. They have taken care of my four pets just like family. They always remember the little details about my pets and they give EXCELLENT care. I have also boarded with them too. I got regular updates and could call to check on my pet at any time. On my cat’s recent visit, we met a brand new staff member, Makenna, who my cat fell in love with. It was my cat’s first adult visit to the vet and he was a little scared. She talked to him and calmed him right down. If you want your pets to be welcomed like family, absolutely choose Smith and Shedd. Our favorite is Dr. Garza, but we’ve seen Dr. Smith and Dr. B too.

I used S&S several years back and loved all of their services. Now with our new puppy Libby we took har to S & S and again was greeted with a hearty welcome and great service. We reviewed Libby's care schedule to make sure she was on track with medications and future needs, including all her immunizations, spaying and chip placement timing. We were taken on a tour of the hospital and boarding facilities and could see all the love and care that S &S provides. They love dogs, and it shows from reception to their fine doctors on staff. We know that Libby will be in the best of care and happy she will have a home away from our home when we go on a vacation.

The clinic is lovely, we got an appointment quickly, and we didn't have to wait upon arrival. I'm not a fan of their methods, though. They put us in a room, and an assistant came in to gather notes in the computer, then she took our cat away, "to take her vitals and let the doctor examine her." What?! I have never not had all of that done right there in the room with me, and my daughter and I spent an anxious 40 minutes or so waiting for her return. (Even if you like this system, it would have been nicer to wait out in the main waiting room). I guess the vet was competent. We won't be going back though - I am going to look for a more "pet person" vet.

Smith & Shedd Family Pet Hospital is OUTSTANDING! Our dog needed to have a mass removed from a very difficult area. Although the surgery would be a unique procedure they did not shy away from helping us. S&S vets provided us with a detailed surgical plan and even spoke to our kids in a loving manner assuring them they’d take good care of her. After surgery care was top notch, Roxy was loved on and tended to. When we were finally able to take her home she actually ran to one of the technicians who loved on her during her stay before she ran to us! Highly recommend Smith and Shedd Family Pet Hospital!

I've been taking my furbaby Jax to Smith and Shedd for 5 or 6 years and my new puppy Stassi for 1yr 1/2. I love the way they treat my furbabys and are always informative about what is going to be done. The precautionary measures they have taken for COVID-19 and working with me as a customer I am truly thankful for. My babies have been sick a few time through this pandemic and have made it so convenient for me to do curb side and get my baby back all better. Don't know what I would do without all of you. Thank you for everything and for taking care of my little family with the upmost care.

smith and shedd is amazing!! my french bulldog was diagnosed with pancreatitis and needed immediate attention, they took her in and nursed her back to health. she was very sick when i took her in and when i picked her up after being hospitalized for 4 days she was backed to her normal self. this made me extremely happy. the vet and staff truly care about your pet and will call you hourly with updates. they accept carecredit and allow you to do in house payments for your bill. without their generosity i would not have been able to save my dog. thank you again S&S keep up the great work.

5 stars for the vets and techs, who seem to truly care about the animals, don’t upsell like crazy, take their time and explain everything patiently, and in my experience, approach their care and treatments with practicality and precaution. Dr. Bilgic and Dr. Garza are who I’ve interacted with and both have been outstanding. Minus one star for disorganized staff. They’re friendly, but on two separate occasions I’ve had to wait weeks and make multiple calls just to get basic lab results that I knew they had already received. Could improve on follow-through! Recommended.

Our 2 english bulldogs LOVE coming here! The staff always show love to them, and our babies love the treats too ;) Since we have bulldogs there are a lot of health problems that come with the breed so we are very familiar with Dr. Garza and Dr. Smith. They have always explained everything to me and my husband whenever we have questions - since we are first time bulldog owners. They never pressure us to buy anything. We live pretty far (near 151), but we heard how great this place was and how they specialize in the breed. We have not been disappointed since!

We love this place. The staff is very friendly and they are always happy to see us and our pup. It is very pricey, but we pay because our dog is comfortable with these people. I've updated my review to add the fifth star. I can't praise them enough. I could cry thinking about the care they provide for my dog. I am beyond thankful for Dr Smith and every employee there who seem to go out of their way in making ME feel comfortable about my dog and his care. I appreciate y'all taking care of my smallest family member and for always being so flexible with us.

I was very, very pleased with S&S! We just moved from Missouri to Texas and our 3 kiddos all grew up with the same vet in MO and were very attached to them! A friend of ours recommended S&S because our Lab-Husky got his seasonal allergies and needed medications. We were really nervous but also excited to introduce him to the staff, since he is usually very skiddish around new people but he loved the S&S staff! We were surprised but also very glad we found a new vet to call home! Can’t wait to bring in my other two kiddos for their updated shots soon!

Dr. Smith and James are literally the "dream team" when it comes to practicing Veterinarian medicine. They cared so deeply for our sweet Sadie and were extremely sensitive to all of our needs. They offered the utmost respect and confidence when it came to making some major decisions regarding quality of life for our fur baby. The receptionists are always on their A-game as well with organization and building relationships with customers. We appreciate everything S&S has done for us. We wouldn't go anywhere else. My Little Oscar has been with the Smith and Shedd Family ever since he was 9 weeks old and he is now a little over 6 years old. I wouldn't take my Oscar anywhere else he is my heart and soul. Everyone at Smith and Shedd treats your pets as if they were their own. Always notes and reminders of when check ups and shots are due and will see you in an emergency. Of course everything is an emergency when its comes to my little Oscar. Why would I go anywhere else when your treated so special?

This is the first time I have visited here. Smith and Shedd family pet hospital was such a great experience. From being greeted from walking in all the way to us walking out the door. The techs and vet were really friendly and informative about our new puppy. I highly recommend this place and will continue to come here. I am very pleased with everything. Great location and great job by all employees making customers and their pet's feel like family.

Smith and Shedd goes above and beyond when caring for my English bulldog, Roux! I could not be more pleased with the experiences and service I receive from everyone in this office. Called a week ago attempting to make and appointment for my dog. I was told that I would receive an email for new patient documentation and a confirmation of appointment. A week came and went, never received anything. I take honesty very seriously and, please don’t tell me you are going to do something if you aren’t going to do it. Called another clinic, got my dog scheduled and received everything I needed within an hour.

I have to say this vet hospital is wonderful facility. They have cared for all three of my pets. I have always spoken with the vet doctor and they have given many options on how i should treat my pets conditions and their prices and what the best option is for the best care of my pets. I will never go to another vet office again. Smith And Shedd is the only family pet hospital i will take my pets to for all their needs! =)

Have been a customer for 5 years, they always take great care of my dog Cherokee. I like the fact that they always give me a estimate of what it will cost, and no surprises. I would recommend Smith and Shedd to anyone wanting complete care for their pets. They also have boarding available which helps when you have to go out of town. It’s really simple! They are the best in town!! I have a frenchie who is 9 months old and a 7 month English Bulldog.. the vets know their stuff , their bed side manner is great.., they explain all aspects of your treatment for dog. After your treatment they do follow up calls to see how ur fur baby is doing! They truly care about you and your fur baby! THANK YOU SMTH AND SHEDD FOR ALL YOU DO!!

S&S is the best place to take your fur babies. I moved here 5 years ago and with 5 dogs, they were referred to me and took patience with each one. It was like I had been there for years. I love the doctors and staff. Everyone is so caring and wonderful to work with. They really take the time to explain what's going on and the love they show to your pet is amazing. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Nice, clean, comfortable and inviting facility. The staff showed genuine concern for my puppy who had kennel cough, diarrhea and a horrible rash on his tummy. Dr. Smith saw him and clearly explained what was going on and how we’d treat it all. I left feeling like my pup was treated well and had everything I needed to help him get better. I’d recommend Smith and Shedd to anyone.

We had our first visit at Smith & Shedd on Saturday. We wish we would have found them years ago. This is the best veterinarian experience we have ever had. Every staff member was friendly, polite, and professional. James, the vet tech, and Dr Garza were very thorough and patient in listening to our concerns and and answering all of our questions and explaining our options.

I would like to thank S&S Family pet hospital and especially Dr. Smith, for the great service we have received for Milo. I know the staff truly cares about my dog, they treat us with the upmost dignity and respect and I trust them with my dog care.  I highly recommend this team of experts for all of your pet’s needs from immunizations to serious health issues.  THE BEST!

The Staff is top notch!!! A caring compassionate group of people who provide the finest care we have ever had!!! The clinic is very clean and neat. The Vets are very experienced and professional. The clinic is very clean and they have soft drinks and coffee while your pet is being treated. A professional team who are truly dedicated!!

I brought my new Belgian Malinois puppy to S&S and have been very happy with their staff and Doctors. They take their time to explain all areas of focus and any concerns they have. It’s a little more expensive than other vets in the area, but near impossible to replace the level of care she and I receive during our visits.

Very clean vet clinic. The staff is welcoming and professional. All of the Vets go above and beyond and you don't feel like you're just a "number". I never left there feeling like my questions weren't answered and I have a very nervous animal and they have always handled him so great.I wont take my dog Rocko anywhere else.

I had another place in mind where we take our family cat, but when we got our dog Toby, I was referred to this place. We took him and just loved the staff and the environment. We continue to bring Toby here and signed up for the yearly plan and thank god we did! Thank you to the dr and vet techs for taking care of Toby!

S&S Family Pet Hospital have a highly professional staff. We know are pets are well cared for there. Their insurance program is great a little bit is charged each month so that when annual shots are due it is not a huge expense. Thank you everyone at S&S Family Pet Hospital. PS. their Groomer Kristyn is the Best ever.

The entire S&S staff is professional, helpful, and caring. We drive in from New Braunfels to take our two French Bulldog to see Dr. Garza and Dr. Smith because of the wonderful care they receive. They care as much for our Frenchies as we do and always make us feel like our boys are part of their family.

Have used S&S for almost 4 years for our precious Boston Terrier. I think the staff loves him as much as we do! The entire Staff is professional, friendly, efficient and very educated/trained in Vet services. It’s a pleasure and a comfort to have this wonderful organization available to our family.

Never give them your email. Their unsubscribe feature doesn't work and they will spam you within an inch of your life. I went here twice two years ago. My dog has been dead for a year. I've blocked multiple email addresses from this company. I just got another email today. It really never ends.

I will never go anywhere else! I have bulldogs and the Dr.s at Smith and Shedd actually understand them! They know the breed and the issues with them so I don't have to worry about their care anymore!! Everyone there has always been very friendly and made me and my babies feel safe and loved.

I have been using Smith and Shedd family pet hospital for 13 years and the are great. We took our Brady for a difficult surgery and we were all worried, but he came through like a champ thanks to the caring doctors, techs and staff. Thank you for taking such good care and I give you 5 stars.

These guys are great! Called about a dog I had just adopted, and they got me in quickly and took good care of her! The doc also spent a couple minutes discussing the adoption and things I could do to help my dog settle in at a new home. Will definitely come back.

I have been taking my little Ollie here since he was a baby.. From the phone calls, to reception, the assistants, and of course the Drs..!!.. all deserve the five stars. I would never want to have to take my little guy anywhere else. They truly care:)

Love S & S Family Pet Hospital!!! Welcoming staff, awesome doctors and techs and great bedside manners. Very attentive to the needs of my sweet cats that have a multitude of issues. You can tell that everyone that works there truly loves their jobs.

We love S&S. While we are new to the area, and have only been able to do curbside, they still are amazing vets! They call you and keep you informed each step of the way. They have taken great care of our giant doodle!! Highly recommend them.

I have brought my dog in here two times for a check up and yearly shots. So far I am very satisfied with the service. They have been very friendly and treated my dog the way I would expect from a top notch facility. We will be back!

Took my Frenchie to get her C-section done. They did a really good job and she had 5 puppies :). They have a really great friendly staff and very knowledgable . They make you feel like family . I recommend this vet to everyone

We have been bringing out pets here for years. They are a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of carey animals receive is top notch. They always seem to have an opening that fits my weird schedule.

Great vet and usually costs less than most places. Throw in quality care for your snuggle or fluffy, and they are one of the best. Boarding is an option too.
