Salumeria Ruocco is one of the spots I’d researched before visiting. I was extremely looking forward to sourcing some local produce and having a rustic Italian dinner with just some bread, prosciutto, salumi, mozzarella and some wine. By all means, I am not well-versed in all the dairy and meat varieties Italy has to offer, so I was going to go for a 500-gram mix of any of the produce they would recommend. Lucky for me and my friends, Alessandro Ruocco, the owner of the salumeria, met and greeted it us by the counter, behind the refrigerated display. “Can we have 400 grams of some parmigiano and mozzarella, maybe a mix of your cheeses?” He kindly reassured me with a single gesture to leave it up to him and started working. To watch Alessandro at work is a joy in itself. He will take his sweet time and fully immerse himself in the process, coming up with ideas as he goes. He is in no hurry and does not flinch when suddenly the store is filled with five people and it looks like someone can lose his temper. They never do, they are all acquainted with Alessandro. He will also give you a bite to taste almost whichever cheese or salumi he is cutting at the moment, so you can feel included in the process and understand what you are being served. I am also happy to say he was extremely helpful in our selection of wine and recommended some of the local Italian brands and even gave us a lesson of the regions and the different grapes they cultivate. I told him I am a big fan of the Jumila Monastrell and he advised me on what would be the closest to the Italian equivalent of the variant. Alessandro, you are a class act. Thank you!
Our trip would not have been complete without the discovery and multiple visits to Salumeria Ruocco. Growing up near Napa Valley, I was extremely excited to dive into the world of Italian wines, but was a bit overwhelmed on where to start. Thank goodness we met Mr. Ruocco, who provided numerous, delightful recommendations for both food and wine. We enjoyed the first set of recommendations so much, we returned a second time (we were only in town for 4 days!), where we were met with excitement and appreciation. Mr. Ruocco once again took care of us by providing wonderful recommendations to try and enjoy. I look forward to returning to Naples merely to visit Salumeria Ruocco. Until next time!
We were visiting Naples and wanted to bring back a bottle of wine as a gift for a friend. Alessandro was so helpful with recommending an excellent and very reasonably priced wine. He also recommended some tasty sausages and cheeses which we later enjoyed for lunch. He took the time to carefully prepare and wrap everything up for us, including the bottles of wine. (Yes, we bought one for ourselves.) This knowledgeable man is also very gracious. He told us that his shop was like his home and wanted us to feel welcomed. We highly recommend you stop by and visit his well stocked shop and meet this truly kind man.
Me and my friend were visiting Naples and found his shop by accident. Ruocco was having a chat with an Israeli couple but we were standing there patiently waiting for our turn to ask him for a recommendation for the night's wine. After a few minutes we were invited to taste 3 types of Ruocco's cheese. Then as expected we chose a nice bottle of local red wine (and a piece of cheese of course) then we chatted some more about a Hungarian couple who had brought him some souvenirs (alcoholic drinks >30%) although the shop was meant to be closed 10 minutes ago by then.

Grazie sempre Sandro porto ogni volta a casa un pezzetto della tua terra !!!
Such a wonderful place! Great wine, great cheese and great salumi! We had a great time at Salumeria Ruocco! Alessandro is such a nice and warm-hearted person and every product that he offers in his Salumeria has it's own story! If you drop by by any chance you need to stop at this place! Thank you for everything, Alessandro!
We came here because we read all the great reviews about the owner. They are completely true - he is absolutely amazing, so welcoming and nice. We paid roughly 30 euros for this meal in two (with wine, cheese, meats, and salad), which I think is really reasonable for this authentic and tasty experience!
Wine, salami and cheeses, jams and pasta and sweets and Alessandro, the kind, generous, thoughtful owner. He carries a superb wine selection as well as sweets and pasta, and his deli counter is chockfull of salami and other meats along with cheeses. A wonderful place to stop.
Great place for wine, cheese and salami, also for friend talk. The wine there is great and Alessandro is a wonderful host who really knows a lot about the local products. We spent our evening there and didn't want to leave.
Alessandro was really kind and positive. At first, we were just looking for our hostel and didn't even know about the place. Yet, feeling their friendly attitude we wanted to spend more and more time there.
