I totally agree 100% with the bad reviews given to this cemetery. It is so sad families have to see their beloved one’s gravesite(s) and/or the areas near or around, in a unkept maintenance/manner from the cemetery staff. I visited today to decorate for Spring and Easter, and as I got there my husband and I noticed the tractor’s tire marks right center to my beloved’s grave! We stood there upset, and not even a minute later the maintenance worker with the actually had the gall to want to drive through to get to the other side! I told him he was not driving through and he proceeded to take another route, of course ruining other families’ beloved gravesites. I drove to the office and put in a complain to the office secretary who was the only staff available. What I don’t understand is why can’t they fix, clean up the mess/damage they themselves make? Are they going back to resod my Mother in law’s plot? This is a continued thing and the cemetery and Archdiocese of San Antonio has not done anything to put a plan in place for maintenance to take a different approach to do their job or especially to fix what they break. Or have they? Will it take the media to be contacted in order to get things done? Our families pay a lot to have our beloved ones in a peaceful, beautiful place. PLEASE NOTE.... I wouldn’t give this review a star, but had no choice in order to post.

Went this past weekend to take some flowers to loved ones and this place has really gone down hill. The landscape is horrible. There's no grass, it's weeds. If there's no weeds, it's bone dry dirt and rock. Some headstones are not even sitting right. They're either way above the dirt or buried, barely visable. I tried cleaning off a headstone that was next us but had to stop because of ants that came out. Mind you, this was just moving dirt off the headstone, that ants were able to build a mound. Then there's the fact that the office is closed on Saturdays and it's by appointment only. Makes it a bit harder for us that are from out of town. Don't even get me started on how overcrowded the plots are! There was quite a handful of people there visiting that were tending to their loved ones gravesite. They had their own tools and all! Please take ownership of how awful this place has become and clean it up! Give the families some type of notice that you are trying to get it together. Our loved ones deserve so much better!

It is so disheartening to read such negative comments about the up keep of San Fernando Cemetery #2. Considering that the cemetery is 101 years old it is in good condition. People complain about the grounds people not caring, but most don’t realize the hard work and dedication that these persons put into their jobs. First, because of lack of funding, they are a crew of 10 compare to years back when there was a crew of 30. Besides being stretched thinly, they work under the Texas heat and the cold of winters. I understand that when it rains, their work not only becomes messy but can be dangerous. Sometimes their work load can be overbearing, and they can have as many as 13 burials in one day. I believe people should always give others the benefit of the doubt, because there are usually circumstances that are unknown. Let’s be charitable and recognize these grounds keepers for their efforts instead of criticizing them.

Buried my aunt today, but later on in the day my sister and I went to go lay roses at the graves at various family members ...I know it's rained quite a bit lately and that can be used as an excuse for not really maintaining the lawns around the gravestones. But to this extent? Really? When we tried to find our uncle's tombstone the growth around that area was so bad, we couldn't have found it even if the grave were right under our feet. I think I did more lawn maitenance with my foot than the crew has done in a long time. This is unexcusable, this is a place where people have laid their loved ones to rest. But they better mark the area so that they could find them, because if they don't do a better job of maintenance that's the only way that people will know where there loved ones are buried.

It's sad that the workers that work on the yard don't respect your love ones place of rest they ride there big trackers all over the ground and leave you with big tire marks and it looks ugly and to top it off if you have placed flowers for your love ones and if they gotta past through they will remove them and throw them a side , so rude we paid a lot of money for the plot and for them not to keep up with the cemetery looking nice I would not recommend this place the people don't care about were your love ones are Buried no respect for the dead I've seen other cemeteries with beautiful green grass and clean but this place is trash no one keeps up with it the proper way so upset right now

We were not informed @ the rules of the cemetery when my grandma passed away, we always have problems with memorial sinking, we call or stop by to do a park request al the time, they promissed they were going to send us a picture after fixed and NOTHING, therefore we wanted to get a single monument and Mgr said that’s what we picked, yes we did but we were NOT told we were going to have these problems and we were NOT told we couldn’t have a single monument. This is not right, so straight out he said we could do dis-interment NO other options, how rude!! Manager name is Richard Corpus, I asked if I could talk to upper mgmt, he said NO that he was the only mgr I could talk to.

It saddens me to see how unkept the cemetery is. If I could give this review 0 stars I would. It is disrespectful to the people who have been laid to rest here. My loved one chose this cemetery to buried with other loved ones. During my last visit there Sunday 05/16/2021, I was shocked to see the weeds up to my ankles and trash thrown on the ground. Tree branches that need trimming and head stones that were hidden by the tall weeds and grass. If anyone at the San Fernando cemetery or whomever is responsible for the grounds reads this I hope you will feel ashamed and embarrassed by how this cemetery is uncared for. What if your loved one was buried here? Would you care then?

Many of my relatives are buried here and I'm very pleased about being able to visit whenever I choose to. I so appreciate that there's a Sister who drives around in a golf cart to keep an eye on the graves and flowers. The ground is somewhat uneven from rain and wind, so you to have to be careful when walking. Otherwise, I am very pleased to visit my deceased loved ones. I have had flowers stolen, twice in the years I have visited, but that is the fault of despicable thieves, not management. I only wish Management would submit the Date of cemetery cleaning on their Website, so I can retrieve flowers from my father's grave.

San Fernando cemetery. What can we do to make this cemetery what it should be? It should be a pristine, restful Catholic cemetery, of reflection to remember and honor those who have passed to be with our Lord. It seems it's overlooked since it's on the Southside in a poor neighbor. You would never see this on the Northside. Please contact the archdiocese to make the difference. We should all have pride of over final resting place. Funeral canopies should also be new or of better quality not rusted. We paid many thousands to have family buried there.

it’s a shame and embarrassing knowing that this cemetery makes so much money throughout the years of operation. They continue to have horrible roads throughout the cemetery. I reported this numerous times to the office locally here on the grounds, as well as to the archdiocese. They need to be repaved professionally and kept up on a timely manner. I will continue to be monitoring this, then I will take this to the next step. I only give the cemetery a one star rating, since my loved ones are buried here.

They charge an extra $2,000 just to entomb our relative in our grandmother's existing tomb just because it's a SATURDAY. We are not wealthy so this caused us to have to rearrange schedules and have the memorial another week entirely and I am probably going to miss it. This is why I am no longer Catholic (or practicing any religion at all) because it is, and always has been, solely motivated by GREED because the obviously do not use money to improve the grounds. It goes into their pockets.

They are money hungry and keep the plots looking horrible and do not take care of your loved ones graves . You pay thousands to to Barry you family and they leave it looking soo bad every time I go I see family members fixing there loved ones graves and watering ,cutting the grass , maintenance . They take your money and do nothing to keep up with the graves I had to plant my own grass because they left a pile of rocks on daughters grave and everything I’ve taken has been stolen

OMG....what a disappointment. The cemetary is overgrown, on several family members we couldn't leave flowers or visit their grave site for fear of getting biten by something. BUT when you drive in the grave sites are pristine, I guess that's all that counts when drumming up business. Hopefully San Fernando can get back to having respect for all the grave sites & not only the ones in & around the office area. Maybe a call to the city's major media organizations are in order.

How can the people who work here sleep at night? This cemetery is horrible, it has been declining for several years, it used to be so pretty. I came by today and saw that they had been working near my mother’s grave. They not only left large stones but also hit and dented her vase. I come every other week, and never see any types of improvements. If you’re looking for any plots don’t chose this cemetery, you’re better off elsewhere. They don’t care about maintaining it!

You would think the Archdiocese of San Antonio would keep up with this place after all the money it has. This place is so unkept and some of the staff members there are so rude. My parents are buried there because they had already bought their plot if not I would have buried them somewhere else where they would take pride in keeping their cemetery clean and lawn kept up with. Ridiculous!

I visited my parent’s grave site a few days ago. What I saw brought me to tears. Deep MUDDY TRACKER TRACKS across my parent’s graves. Why are tractors allowed to go over and disrespect our loved one’s graves?When I purchased my parent’s plot I was given pamphlet with rules. I would like to give them a rule as well, and that NO trackers are allowed to disrespect our loved one’s graves.

These people are taking stuff from The headstone stuff that is glued on The headstone they are taking it off I have contact the office and they keep saying rules change but no updated rules has been notified or even given they are starting to take things off of headstones which is stealing from the dead last time I saw you ain't supposed to be stealing especially from the dead

Haven’t had any personal problems with the staff. If I have questions I will just call and I usually get Bernadette and she is always very helpful. I go to visit my loved one every week and I can say there is always staff attempting their best to keep the cemetery clean. I haven’t had any issues with decorations being stolen or removed without a clean up date being posted.

This cemetery has got to be the worst, they don't care about the landscaping, they never have running water. It has been four weeks that I have not been able to water my loved ones grave, yet you call and they give you all kind of excuses as to why there is no water and promise you that you will have working water by weeks end. Will be five weeks with no water.

This place is horrible. They dont keep up with maintaining the overgrown grass. Not only that my family can't even place flowers or decorations because people keep stealing from the graves. Whenever you complain about it, they do nothing but they sure are fast to take thousands of dollars from you. They don't care about your lost loved ones at all.

Ashamed! How we go to see our loved ones Graves dirty trash all over, covered with overgrown grass landscaping not being kept up with. Sad had christmas decorations scattered everywhere, cemetery looks embarrassing to for what the fees are being paid for grave sites and cannot have it representable for families to visit deceased loved ones.

For so many San Antonioians this cemetery is a place of respect and reverance. Today the grass is overgrown, gravestones are grossly falling over and the grounds look so unkept. How can we help to fix this??? I know that our community would help, if asked. We need to fix this FAST. Please, please help us get this cleaned up.

Went this weekend to visit our loved one and I was extremely disappointed on the upkeep of the cemetery , grass was extremely high as if it hadn’t been cut In months. We had to go across the street to the dollar store to buy scissors to trim our loved ones area. I find this as a total disrespect to our loved ones.

No help from office!! No monitoring of website to answer questions!! People stealing your flowers you've left for your loved ones n office doesn't do a thing about it! Looks like a nice cemetery from the outside. However, from the inside my fiance and I noticed that there was a lot of tombstones that were covered by the grass. Which we find really upsetting. We struggled to find out loved one. This place does need better landscaping. HONESTLY.

As much as they charge for burial and all the other extra expenses they charge, this place needs a lot of work on their landscape. So sad to see alot of head stones/monuments falling down. Ground is uneven. Nothing but weeds instead of grass. This place needs alot of work done!

Every time I go to pay my respects to my Mother's grave I notice that the roads get worse and worse with potholes. Are they going to get repaired before someone's suspension breaks down ? I guess that's what is going to happen for them to get a call from someone's Insurance !

My grandparents are buried here and we just found out the grounds keeper has decided it was ok to drive over their plots. Not just once but enough times to have created a new road over my grandparents graves. This is unacceptable and needs to stop and be repaired immediately!

The area where the stones are is awful, the grass is not kept well, they have no respect for stones already there. My parents stone was so hidden once I couldn't find it. Employees at the front office are rude! I strongly do not recommend anyone be buried there.

I have placed Christmas decorations for my mom,just to go the next day n find out they trashed all my decorations. How can ppl be so mean already xmas scrooges. I'm so angry n disappointed I decorate every year for the past 10 years and never has this happened

I wouldn’t bury my dog there, this is the most disgusting cemetery in the entire city, I honestly don’t know why people still want to be buried there, I can show you buried headstones and it’s totally uneven everywhere, this place should be shut down!!!

i dont understand why such a beautiful and historic cemetery doesnt have more pride in the landscaping. i visited my mom, and grandparents sites today. i was in shock, not able to see my grandparents headstone. my moms on the other hand was not as bad.

If I can give it 0 stars I would Headstones are misplaced and they are always throwing away solar lights i put for my sister sometimes it’s not even solar lights. they will throw some things and leave some behind even when it’s not pick up day

My sister, baby niece, grandma and uncle were laid to rest here. Landscape is still horrible. We had to dig up my nieces stone. Lawn maintenance was done by us and we also cleaned up a few other baby’s graves. Do not recommend this place.

There was litter everywhere. I was shocked by how many employees I saw there and not a single one was picking up trash. However, the next time I go I will take time to help clean up. No one wants trash laying on their loved ones grave.

The most disgusting show of irreverance I have ever witnessed! Massive need for landscaping attention and ALL stones need cleaning NOW! I would NEVER place a loved one here. The office should be open on Saturday yet it is closed.

The cemetery is absolutely a disgrace. The maintenance is awful, head stone are either partially buried, tilted, no grass, only weeds. It is our loved ones final resting place, it should look like a beautiful final resting spot.

All the money the archdiocese receives and they can’t even maintain the landscaping looking decent. Out grown tree limbs hanging to the ground and grass high making it impossible to walk. Shameful!

Check your loved ones. This cemetery has gone downhill. You have the grounds man walking around with blowers instead of mowing. We all have paid a good price to have our loved ones here.

Seriously nothing done to fix the landscaping especially on Mothers Day. This was my tio and grandma tomb stones, covered with mud and weeds. Can't get in contact with the office at all.

This place is so bad, I highly recommend no one use this place for family members. Yard maintenance is awful, my family's stone was so buried in the grass I couldn't even find it.

BEWARE OF BURGLARIES. Make sure you don’t leave your car unattended. Our car got broken into while visiting a loved one. Always make sure someone is waiting in your car for you.

Its a nice place they keep it clean there are some bad ones but if you reported and bring it to their attention they'll fix it. My parents and sister are resting there.

A family member alerted us to the condition of the landscaping at this cemetery. It used to be so well kept. You could barely see the headstones of our family members.

Cemetery was obviously just cut with dry grass over all the headstones. Had to leave without visiting my father on Fathers Day! I just cried! This is so inexcusable!

This place gets worse by the year. Badly kept grounds, knocked over headstones, groundskeepers driving tractors over graves and sinking in ground. No respect

HORRIBLE, sad to say they are quick to collect money but no upkeep!!! They say no workers, maybe they could pay more and get better machines for the upkeep.

Visiting here, perhaps off-schedule, helps you put your life into a sober and serene perspective ! Tombs are great teachers of timeless lessons!

They are getting better at matiece. They have lefted our parents headstone after 29 of complaining. But it's getting better.

I only go here because my brother is here, but this place has to be one of the worst cemeteries I have ever been to.
