I have always said, Scotiabank has the worst customer service in the world. My son passed away in November and I delivered a copy of the Death Certificate and evidence of our court ordered application for Administration which takes about ten weeks. In the meantime they would not even give me the opening balances required for the court application. Then, without consultation with me, Scotiabank closed his Visa and Amex accounts, disposing of the approximately 65,000 award points my son had accumulated. When I asked about it I was told he just loses them. As for my son's chequing account, Instead of freezing it, they continued withdrawing automatic RSP and TFSA contributions into his other accounts held at the same branch. They also allowed any other automatic withdrawals to continue unimpeded. This caused the estate to go into overdraft for which they charged an NSF Fee on a returned item of $45. Scotiabank also created an interest bearing loan to cover the overdraft on their own withdrawals. They really ought to have known that transferring funds into an RRSP after death is quite pointless, and that letting a checking account to continue to operate without any accountability for 10 weeks exposes the estate to undue risk. The bank will now also have to holdback income tax on those RRSP deposits at the highest rate of 30%. Finally, on March 7, 2019 when I went to my scheduled appointment with Alex, with certified documents in hand showing me as his court appointed Personal Representative (Executor), I expected to finalize everything. Instead, when I asked when I can expect to receive access to the funds in his RRSP and TFSA, I was told that he (Alex) basically had no power/authority or idea - maybe weeks. "That is up to the estate department" he said. I told Alex at our meeting that he must not mail any bank drafts because the last time Scotiabank mailed me a Bank Draft, it "supposedly" got lost and I never received it. Weeks later I had to sign all sorts of Personal Guarantees stating that if anyone later finds it and fraudulently cashes it I will personally be responsible to replace the funds. I suspect it more than likely got lost in someone's file and never got mailed in the first place but if I didn't sign it they would not give me the funds. While this is quite another matter, this kind of thing seems typical for this bank chain. To continue, four days after our meeting I called Scotiabanks main Customer service line to find out what is happening with the estate. I briefly explained my plight to Samantha. She asked me if my son was with me on the phone. I said NO, I told you I wanted to speak to someone in the estate department because my son was deceased. Instead, she transferred me to the Investments department. Akbar in Investments answered and initially told me I need to call the government of all places! I scolded "are you serious? Do you really think the government is going to tell me why I haven't got the funds out of his accounts yet"? Then he said he'll leave a message for Alex at the branch, right where I started off. Alex at the branch rarely if ever returns a phone call or answers an email. Nobody at Scotiabank has any idea about anything. Meanwhile the estate is in hawk to me to the tune of 40K while Scotiabank apparently does nothing but stall. Dealing with an estate is troublesome and time consuming. What makes the whole process worse is when one of the banks involved keeps jerking you around. Update - March 22nd, 2019. Scotiabank has still not release the funds or given me any indication as to when they will. I'm making a report to the Ombudsman and placing a call to the Financial Consumer agency of Canada. Closing my savings account there today. There's lots of better places to park your savings and get a much better return.
Poor service from a branch manager is really disappointing. I am sorry for the rating if my experience is a result of the manager having a bad day. But Scotiabank should invest money to train the manager to identify customers' problems precisely and resolve, at least navigate them to resolve their disputes with an acceptable level of accuracy, respect and empathy. Just throwing some rule of thumb without considering the situation does not solve problems the bank made because of their system maintenance excuse. Here is the story- since last month, as per I am aware, my credit card limit exceeding and causing an over-limit charge. Previously, faced the same problem and called online help, they resolved the problem by refunding the money charged. This morning got a call that my over-limit should be paid soon that appears today. I presented my dispute that I requested before for putting a cap on my limit and if any attempt made over my card limit should show the decline. The person on the other end understood the situation, apologized, took my request and transferred my call to the dispute resolution department. Interestingly, they could not verify my information although I already talked to the previous agent and more interestingly they initiated the call. They sent me to the nearest branch to resolve it. I went to the branch and met the teller who explained clearly that she cannot do anything about it and called the manager. She started giving me the solution as I need to book a meeting with an advisor to BE EDUCATED ON HOW CREDIT CARD WORKS AND HOW TO USE them without telling me what should be the solution to resolve the dispute. I had to request the manager twice to listen to my situation. Finally, she understood that I am not here to Enrol in the Educational Course rather to solve the problem. Then, I inferred my expectation that she will not head about the situation but rather will waste more time from me with the advisory meeting but ultimately I need to pay. Ironically, it would take only 20 seconds to navigate me without wasting my time. It would be more satisfactory if she could be empathetic and polite, if possible, with a smile. Last, I felt that if I run for resolution it will cost me more time, and destroy my peace. So, I walked away with a smile and said thank you to show how to smile and say thank you even you are dealing with a very upsetting situation and know there is no way to escape loss. On the way paid the ransom and moved on to reduce more damage. Feeling a little better. But back in my mind, I am thinking I gave scotiabank 6 years of loyalty but this experience shows they do not care!!!
I went for an appointment with a financial advisor. I arrived early for my appointment. No one is at the reception desk, but a sign there says to use the next teller. I go a teller, and tell them I'm here for my appointment with the advisor. I'm told to have a seat in the waiting area, the lady will go tell her I have arrived. 12:25p.m. I sit down. The teller disappears and never comes back. 20 minutes later, at 12:45 a woman comes in the front door (turns out to be my financial advisor) with a Dollarama bag of shopping. She disappears. She appears again, goes outside and comes back in a few minutes later and disappears once more. Eventually, a man comes and asks if I've been helped. I tell him yes, I was here for my 12:30 appointment with ******. He asks how long I've been waiting - I look at my phone (it was 12:52p.m.) and tell him I've been sitting there for almost 1/2 an hour. He says he'll go find her. 12:55p.m. she comes out, and apologizes for my wait saying, "that's crazy" that I waited so long. To summarize, I don't know how this kind of thing even happens. I had 5-10 minutes of questions re: our mortgage. To talk to someone, I have to make an appointment, then wait 1/2 an hour, then watch my advisor arrive back from her shopping trip 20 minutes late, instead of being at work on time for a previously scheduled appointment. If there were 0 stars, that's what I'd rate Horizon Square.
This is the worst bank ever! So I went to this bank to close my investment because of this pandemic and I needed my money. I talk to this guy name “kunle” and he did the transaction and honestly he seems nice but I don’t think that he knows what his doing. So in other words he didn’t close the mutual account and still they charge me every 2 weeks. Last week January 18 2022 @ 12pm. again I talk to him again to close the account and he finally close it. But there’s an remaining balance of $46. I know it’s not much but still that’s my money I work hard for it. I short he told me that I’m gonna get my money in 2 to 3 business day. Nothing….. no money transfered which I waiting for a week. So I went to the bank and I told the teller to totally closed my account because dealing with them is very stressful and I donated the money which is probably totally is $48. Plus….
Went there to deposit a cheque. The teller called the manager on duty(forgot his name, bald brown guy with beard and mask). The manager started asking personal questions unrelated to finances on why I did not take cash instead of cheque, etc. He just made his own policies and started talking about how he controls this bank, and he won't accept the cheque because he is in power and control, and he doesn't have to if he doesn't want to. He said he doesn't have to follow Scotiabank policies and that this is his branch and he makes his own rules. This is very unprofessional branch run by brown people. A note to him- this is not India/Pakistan. This is Canada. You have to follow rules of this country and policies set by Scotiabank. You are an employee of that organization. You do not own this bank. Be competent and learn to talk to people.
Worst bank ever. Got a bank draft created 100 000 at this location under my personal name instead my lawyers law firm. Went in to get the draft cancelled and re issue under my lawyer’s law firm.....Manager would not cancel the draft and create a new draft. She indicated it would have to stay on hold for 5 business days. She advised me to endorsed the check to my lawyer. Lawyer indicated endorsing a check is not allowed. Drove across the street to TD bank who o have been banking for ever. Explained the situation. The were able to cash Scotia bank draft and create a new draft for me. Hats off to London Town TD bank and there staff!!!!! Excellent service at Td bank and SHAME on Scotiabank for pathetic service. Will be moving all my accounts to TD!!
Opened my account with Iqra and everything went smooth, then I tried to apply for a credit card with her and my God it was the worst experience I've had. Gave her a the letter of employment and pay stud with 80 hours and she said I wasn't working full time. Gave her another letter of employment and another pay stud (she said I should be getting the card in 10days) and I never got a call or email back, so I called and they said there was no application under my name and i asked to speak with iqra and she was in vacation and took longer than expected. I have no clue what she did with my personal information. This rating is specifically for IQRA, I tried again with Tejas and everything worked out great the first time.
Met with TEjas (financial advisor) regarding closing my account, withdrawing and stopping investment contribution. Funds transferred to checking account and called his direct line to cancel account as per his instruction, no answer, left a message. A week later no call back checked my account but deductions were still made. Called customer service (very helpful) they cancelled contributions for me and was told they have emailed Tejas to cancel the recent contribution and to keep in touch to close the account. It's been a week, still waiting for the call back and the amount to be transferred to my checking account. Very frustrating. Not my first time to experience very bad service in this branch though.
I have a business account with this branch and I have my account from last 2 years But every time I visit the branch, they give a very hard time and disgusting service . Today I was there to submit my check and I needed that money urgently I requested them humbly please don’t put hold on the cheque need it But they denied and told me we cannot do anything I am done with you guys I will go with some other bank who can provide me a good customer service Very upset with you guys Scotiabank is the worst I want to specially mention branch staff is too rude and don’t wanna help They always say we can’t do anything Wait that’s so nice
I opened up a new account and Zachary helped me through it, I never had such a great experience with a bank before, never expected anything more than just opening an account but he was so helpful and informative and I felt completely informed about the exact things I was doing with my account.. he was the best banking specialist I've ever dealt with in my life, and definitely impressed me.. have already recommended this branch, and him specifically, to people I know... While I waited for my appointment, everyone working was very attentive and nice!!
when I deposited a cheque into the automated teller, it picked up the wrong amount . I have been trying to rectify for a week and get the run around. They use third parties for the ATMs and apparently do no reconcile the deposits. To call means a 30 minute wait. Utterly ridiculous, fees, especially for business accounts are so high and do not let a service charge put you in the red as you will be charged extra. I am going to change banks, customer service is poor and they do not care about their customers - I would never recommend this bank
Great for those looking to establish first time credit. I just took my son to this branch to start building his credit. I thought a credit card or if necessary, a loan where I cosigned for him would help him develop a credit history. Our loans officer, Brad, was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Within an hour he took the application, explained everything thoroughly and approved the credit card based on my son's application alone. I think they gained a long term client that day...my son was especially impressed with how he was treated.
My experience with the Horizon square branch was always professional and excellent customer service always friendly ..I would like to point out an unforgettable experience with one of their employees her name is Geeta Asadi and all I have to say if you need any help or advice please contact the lady she is very friendly and professional with excellent and exceptional customer service..She will help you with all your financial issues and needs ..Thank you Asadi Geeta ...If I could give you a 10 star that’s what it would be .
The Financial Advisor Sam Sengupta is not good at returning requests in a timely manner. We asked originally July 18th for copies of missing statements, and after many emails and calls told us 2 weeks ago he would finally have them for us only to again not reply to messages or calls. I talked to the manager when I was in last week and he apologized and reordered the statements but still no contact, and still no statements. Unacceptable. Take your money somewhere else if you want someone who can help you in a timely manner.
This branch has been so wonderful for me from the start of opening my business account for my law firm and every step of the way since then. Jinger Forde is the best person you could have on your team as a small business owner. She goes above and beyond - a total treasure at the branch. The front end team is always super kind and friendly! I normally would hate going to a bank, especially during Covid, but this branch is always efficient and effective. They also have done an amazing job with Covid protocols.
I find it so pathetic that my bank couldn’t exchange 20 dollar bills for 100 dollar bills. The bank manager was not even interested in listening to see if she can exchange some of the money! I even asked her if I can order bigger bills and she said no. She pretty much was not interested in helping me out or offer any solutions. I wish I don’t have to deal with such people at the branch. She certainly doesn’t appreciate her position. I’ve never in my life heard that from any banks!!!
I would like thank Mr. Olumide Ojeyinka ( financial advisor) who processed the application of my debit and visa card. I really appreciate his passion and dedication in driving the approval of my card. You’ve shown an excellent customer support by doing the extra mile of keeping me on track. Hope your commitment and empathy towards your customer will be recognised by Scotia. If you all guys need to open and seek help don’t hesitate to book an appointment with Mr. Olumide.
I went in to this branch on February 25th to change my last name. I brought all the necessary documents in as I had two other banks to do this, and was told I was good to go. It is April 13th and nothing, no one at the call center can even find any notes from the teller that took copies of all my stuff. I paid $45 to take a taxi to your branch to do this and now I am told I have to go back because the teller was so incompetent they couldn't update my name.
Not my first complaint about the managers at this branch over the years. This Sunridge branch has always had poor managers. I own a manufacturing business near this branch and have for 25 years. The last 20 years I have been driving 15 min to Bridgeland scotiabank to avoid this branch. Managers at Sunridge have always been arrogant A holes. The Bridgeland branch is worth the drive. The managers and staff are always friendly and knowledgeable.
They've taken 38k out of my account between december 24th and January 6th with no apolagy (supposed to be $380). Recently, they charged me over $500 in overdraft interest bc my payments came 5 days after and exceeded my overdraft. They then decided to wait until after the long weekend to deposit it (knowing I was losing my vehicle and the place I was renting.) They've made so much money from me being broke over the years. Twisted people.
I work nights and have to sleep during business hours, but they shut off the ATMs from the public after they close, so my only option for depositing my tips is through the drive through atm. Or would be, if it were ever in working order. It's ALWAYS having technical issues. Either open your ATMs back up or keep the drive through maintained.. This inconvenience has made me late for rent payments more than once.
Unfortunately this is my home branch. The wait to see a teller is insane. Help from the front desk is impossible. Booking an appointment with anyone is easy enough but guaranteed you will never see that person again with their high staff turnover. Did I mention the ATM's are closed after hours so you have to use the drive-through window one, even if you are on foot. Not the safest feeling in the world.
Hopefully TODAY I'll be able to DEPOSIT via the ATM and pay my rent, which is now four days late. I don't drive and am in the hospital nearby. I have been unable to DEPOSIT money for the past 3 days. I can't see a human teller, because I can only leave my unit for 30 minutes at a time. I've never known a bank to NOT want money. Here's hoping today will be different.
I would highly recommend Mr Furhad Hussain... Financial advisor.. Its a bit late post however if opened my scotia bank account 3 months ago as I was new to Canada then.. And he advised me the right account that would suites my needs. He does take his time to explain you each and every aspect of banking..mr Furhad is the to go person. Thanks. Sean Fernandes
We have had a mortgage with Scotiabank for 5 years now. We made an appointment for a mortgage renewal 3 times with different people and all 3 times they didn't show or call to cancel! Now we are taking our mortgage and investments to a different bank with a high customer rating and much lower interest rates for mortgages! Extremely disappointing.
I've been trying for 7 months now to get my hold limit raised but countless time this bank want to hold as much as they can, I've explained I need my money for my bills but again and again they have screwed me over. I'd go to ANY OTHER BANK then scotiabank, the customer support has to be top 3 worst experiences THEY WILL NOT HELP YOU
We have a very good experience from this branch. The bank representative that we dealt with is super helpful and effective. We opened a new bank account for my mom who just currently got her job/ permanent residence. Kunle helped us extra mile and is respectful to us. Will give 5 star Rating to Kunle! You deserve it Bro.
Today (April 28th 2023), i had a very bad experience with a very rude and arrogant agent. He nearly scared by 80+ dad with his questions and then insulted him for not understanding bank requirements. My dad is well educated and had taken all the required papers with him. Will never recommend this branch to anyone.
Trying to use this bank after the staff leave is beyond useless. They lock the doors after they leave so you cant use the instatellers inside and so far every single time I've gone through their drive thru atm it doesn't work forcing me to use TD across the street. If I could rate negative I would for this branch.
Worst service I have ever had !!!!!!!! And to think I gave them an excellent review on my last survey. I have waited for my financial adviser to get back to me for a week now when he said he would get back to me the following day at 9:00 A M after we talked. I guess my money and I don't matter........
This isn't my bank that I use, but my friend does. As I waited for her to get back from her appointment. I got asked by 6 people if I've been help. It does show they care about your wait. I also saw how fast the tellers were able to get through each customer even though there were only 2 at the time.
I have been into this branch 3 weeks ago to transfer my funds to a different account and within this time frame I still havent seen the transfer. I have called numerous times, got a hold of Kunle advised he was also shock lol, said to get to bottom of this and call me back…been a few days now.
I see all the bad reviews. But this one is considered a business bank so the hours are limited. Also, yes they lock the doors but it's because there has been many homeless sleeping inside the doors scaring patrons along with much vandalism. However, the drive thru is accessible 24 hours
Poor customer service. The senior financial advisors at this location need better training. They're slow to respond and seem to have no idea what they're doing. They're incompetence and lack of care for their customers is inexcusable. I will be taking my business elsewhere.
Horrible bank. Long line ups. Tellers speaking in languages that no one understands (welcome to canada), and their manager is just a goof and rude. That God for CIBC in sunridge that accepted my deposit without any issues. And sometimes TD across the street is amazing.
I have been dealing with scotia bank for a few years I visited the most locations in Calgary usually my experience always good there's only horizon square location I will give 1 star for there service from the staff to management very poor customer service
called and lmovm with FA and he returned the call, asked him to transfer the cash balance in RRSP into my MF and he said he would, still waiting, I don't get it, why such poor customer service and yet the bank says they are making a profit, How Can they??
I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude & appreciation for the incredible service provided by all girls at front Komal, Navleen & simran. Thank you for always your support to Bench Law office. We are glad being your loyal customer.
Worst bank, worst service ever. I tried calling customer service line and the line keeps cutting off, when I finally was able to talk to a rep, after 30 mins. on hold, the line was cut off too. I don't recommend doing business with Scotiabank.
Kindly fix your drive thru atm if the atm in front is not accessible. The screen was broken, hard to touch the screen to key in your options. Too frustrating at the same time mobile app was down as well. Wasnt able to do my transaction.
Very poor customer service. Beware - this location is used as their TRAINING facility for newbies who are clueless about how money and banking works. You will end up losing money banking with them as a result of their incompetence.
To get even the most simple question answered by phone is impossible. You immediately get rerouted through to the central office, usually to someone whose english is difficult to understand. Reaching the local branch is impossible.
This needs better management. Bad customer service every-time, last experience was with branch manager holding the door few minutes before 5 pm not letting anyone in. Asked politely for help but nothing. Closing this account.
Went to the teller yesterday. Same teller that helped me out on Friday with my situation. I went back to follow and received attitude eye rolls. She was not a pleasant person to deal with. Very disappointed in Scotiabank
Very good bank. I have dealt with so far. Taking care of their customers. Thanks alot to scotia Bank team horizon plaza NE and thanks alot to the customer service team on phone. Shout out to T.J thank you :)
2 days in the row, either machine is doing or it won't dispense larger bills, not sure if the bank gets notifications when it's down or if no big bills available but someone should pay close attention.
Even one star is being generous. I do not appreciate being misled by a bank thinking there is a problem with my sons account, only to find out it was just a Financial Advisor looking for new business.
Can't even get through on the telephone to speak with someone. And the ATMs either are not available after normal business hours or the one time the drive through was working there were no envelopes.
I loved the service in this branch. Even though i didn’t had an appointment still they helped me. I had a trouble with credit card and it was busy time. Mrs. Kiruthika helped me to solve the issues.
Bank machines don’t always work and the drive through bank machine rarely works. The hours are also not very flexible so it it hard to withdraw or deposit funds. Kind of useless as a bank.
Poor customer service.Employe Tejas patel does not even gave 1 minute to listen to their customer’s concerns, saying “everything is online” .Don’t know then what they are doing in branch.
Their hours of operation are totally impossible for an average working person! I work very close but I have to use the one in falconridge because it is open later AND open on Saturdays.
New staff is very kind and Helpful, but the old staff is Trash. They have too much attitude and they are slow as tortoise even if long line up there. 4 * For new staff 1* For old staff
The last 5 times of come to this location the drive through atm is not working. it only tells you once you get all the way through to the deposit screen. Big waste of time
This location needs help seriously always 2 cashiers working only and for some reason they take time between transactions. This location needs better managements. …
Been trying to reach the branch manager for days.. there is an absence alert from July 7 to July 13 .. today is Aug 29 2023. I think I am almost done with this branch.
Do your self a favor. Don’t bank with Scotiabank. They do not care about small business and I am moving all my accounts to another bank. Worst banking experience ever.
I bank with Tangerine and never had an issue with my bank card I can here and nothing but issues with the ATM. The lobby was dirty and Tellers were under staffed.
Soooo bad well i highly recommend dont have any business with scotiabank especially this branch They promise thats everything is fine but Its not !!!!! Hate you
They’ve just lost my business. Don’t call me and ask me to come in and discuss account options at closing time. Then I sit there looking at a locked door.
Tried to withdraw part of RRSP, it is in cash. Not a mutual fund, takes 3 DAYS!!! With Alberta Treasury Branch I could withdraw same day. This is BOGUS.
Had a wonderful experience today at the branch - if someone is unable to help there is always someone who has their back - very well managed bank!
Terrible service, he didn't know if I'm qualified for new comer or not, and the charged date 30 days circle or 30th of month, he wasn't sure too.
Impossible to come in here without taking time off work due to the crazy hours that they are open, and then the line ups are usually ridiculous.
The customer service needs to be worked on. I came here with a few questions and they told me to call a number to talk to other representative.
Friendly staff. But slow service and business hours that are not any good if you are working. line ups are usually long and move slowly.
Very unhelpful branch so happy I never got any credit card and happy moving to a different bank with better hours and better service
There’s always only two people working and customer service is extremely slow. Staff are always chatting when they can be helping.
Theres 15 people waiting in cue and only 2 people working at the counter and taking there sweet time......worst branch ever
Looooooooooong time for gettingva hold of RDSP department. No "Call back" option equals No respect for customer's time!
What a nightmare! Nobody replies and email or phone. Avoid at all costs if you have deadlines to meet. You’ll fail.
Friendly staff and always ready to sever you with a smile and helpful staff members to help you when you need it.
Its the worst bank to do bussiness with and people working are unprofessional doesn't know how to their job!!
2 tellers working on a pay day Friday at 230pm. Exactly why I'm here to close my Scotiabank accounts.
Constantly understaffed and the tellers are not well trained. This results in very long wait times
Said it was open but it’s a business location so it’s closed, please correct your hours online.
I wish I had a 0 star option! The drive through ATM never works! Even the screen is broken!
Thanks to them I’m canceling my acccount cause the mess up more then they do anything else
Bad customer service, communication gap between the staffs and poor follow up system.
Terrible customer service. Horrible cleanlinesses. Very disappointed in this bank
Wait for tellers here is crazy. Been waiting 20 minutes. Clearly need more staff.
Very bad service don't go there if you don't have too BAD BAD BAD service
Great staff always helpful parking lot is a big issue but great bank
Long waits in the line up. Messed up one of my bank transfers.
TJ and Chirag were great ! Thank you for all your help today.
I don't come to this place anymore, I am not treated well.
Worst banking hours. Very poor technology used by bank.
5 MINS ON THE PHONE AND STILL CAN'T SPEAK TO ANYONE!
Worst banking EVER!!!!!!!!!! Don't waste your time
Worse customer service every time you go banking.
Marc Falcon. Amazing service. Thank you!
