Shaw's was able to resize my engagement ring 2 sizes down, even though it has side diamonds! Albert Ruiz was incredibly helpful and professional, with many years of experience. I had previously been told by 2 other jewelers in Houston that they couldn't resize my ring down to my size because it would change the form of the ring so much that the side diamonds would eventually fall out. Since my ring is from another country, I figured I would have to return the ring to the other country to exchange it for one in my size, and it's stessful sending jewelry. I came into Shaw's for a resize evaluation to know for sure what size to give for returning the ring to the other country for the exchange. The other 2 jewelers in Houston I visited before Shaw's rushed through a resizing evaluation since they knew they wouldn't be making much money from me since I thought I had to send the ring back to the other country. They took sizing rings on and off (not telling me the sizes), and at the end told me my size was X even though the last ring they put on was tight for my liking. Unlike them, Albert Ruiz at Shaw's Jewelry took the time to tell me each size of sizing ring before putting it on my finger when we got close to my size, so I could feel how the size felt to know for sure if the size we said was good for me. Albert explained his recommendation for a good size, which was extremely helpful since my finger size fluctuates during the month. He then told me that Shaw's could resize the ring and kindly listened to my concerns. He took the time to answer all my questions and explained how the process would likely not have the side diamonds fall out eventually. He even offered a one-year guarantee on the resizing, which helped me trust in their quality of work even for this tough job. I decided to have Shaw's resize the ring: it came out perfectly and Albert's size recommendation was exactly right! Thank you Albert Ruiz for going above and beyond in your customer service. This is sad to write because my relationship with Shaw's goes back over 50 years when as a boy I would buy coins from Mr. Shaw in his store, previously located on the north side of West Gray. Unfortunately, I can no longer trust Shaw's jewelry to provide honest sales and service. Three years ago I purchased my wife's engagement ring here, choosing a higher end but modestly sized diamond. It was never out of her possession except the times we had been in Shaw's to purchase other jewelry and they offered to clean it up for us. She recently damaged her ring, and we took it in for repair. Prior to leaving it for repair, the young lady salesperson inspected and weighed the diamond and told us that it was not the diamond we had purchased. The diamond we had was a slightly larger diamond but of inferior quality. I was very surprised by this, obviously, because they only time the ring had not been in our possession since the time of purchase was when it had been in their jewelry service room. It seems the diamond we ended up with is not worth what we paid for, and the documentation they provided to me when I purchased the diamond does not match what we were given. I asked them to please correct all this, but they have completely washed their hands of the matter. They believe that the diamond was switched out after it left the store the first time, so now it is their word against ours. All I can say is be very careful if you do business with them. For me, they can no longer be trusted. Such a disappointment that after over 50 years of doing business with Shaw's, they have lost a long-time loyal customer.

Albert is the best discovery we have made in years. I always thought a custom piece of jewelry might be out of reach or just too much trouble. I didn’t have any design ideas of my own other than I wanted this ring to look more feminine and maybe a bit Art Deco when I went into Shaw’s. It was just a stroke of excellent luck that I met Albert. He listened to me carefully and started sketching ideas as I looked at other settings to see style elements I liked. I had no jewelry vocabulary, but he knows his stuff and explained to me what he thought might suit the stone, my other rings, and what I liked in general. He drew up the loveliest special setting to be made for my ruby and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. Please note that I was willing to spend more to make it as beautiful as it could be, but Albert said it really wasn’t necessary. He said he’d put the stone in the most appropriate setting with all the details I wanted without having to break the bank. Albert spent a good 45 minutes sketching and visiting with me to make sure I was going to get just what I liked, even if I could not visualize it well myself. He has given me a ring I love to wear and will be so proud to pass down to my son’s wife one day.

I will definitely recommend Shaw's Jewelry to anybody who is looking to make a purchase for themselves, or for their loved ones. I'm an avid AM talk listener, and I hear the live endorsement ads nearly daily. So when the time came to make that special purchase for my long time girlfriend (soon to be fiance!), naturally we chose to go check out Shaw's. While there, we were helped by Gabriel Abbott. I can't say enough how helpful Gabriel was. Naturally, when looking to spend money, we tend to get on edge and feel awkward and/or unsure about our purchasing decisions. Gabriel eased that tension immediately. He was very polite, nice, considerate, and probably most important, personable. Gabriel helped guide us in our buying decision without the typical salesmen push. In the end, we spent less money than I was prepared to spend while at the same time, actually purchasing the rings that made us happy; that felt like us. Is zero stars an option? I had a very poor experience getting my grandmother's ring resized, which is now my engagement ring. What started as (what seemed) a simple resizing & prong replacement turned into x3 attempts to correct the piece after receiving it back lopsided in BOTH the front and back of the ring. Not only that, the ring is back to being too big! Literally back where I started and now my grandmother's ring has been messed up repeatedly by Shaw's. Every time they gave it back to me grossly malformed and handed it to me as if to see if I would notice. Each time I stupidly assumed they would provide quality work and correct the previous mistake, only to cause another. When I asked if I could speak to the jeweler in order to ensure my wishes were understood, I was met with, "no, they only speak Spanish." Horrible experience. Wouldn't let them take care of my goldfish. Just be aware before handing over important jewelry with expectations of quality work.

I have been a longtime customer myself for over 25 years and my stepdad for over 40 years. Shaw’s was the best kept secret of most River Oaks and Montrose families. Always the best prices on extremely high quality jewelry and loose gems. The customer service is beyond any that I have encountered and I feel comfortable leaving jewelry with them as I run about town when I need cleaning or a clasp fixed. I was happily surprised when they fixed an antique pearl necklace (100yr+) clasp for me. Best part is being able to send younger generations to them to get great customer service & education when purchasing that all important engagement ring and hearing how they were able to get something much larger while keeping good to great quality within their starter budget! The customer service here is great. My mother and I were out and about yesterday and since we were in the area I wanted to stop in and get my ring cleaned(it had at least been a year since it was last done). With out even asking the associate that helped us immediately offered to clean my wedding band and my mothers rings as well! It took 5 minutes to clean and as we were looking through the cabinets, my mom spotted a ring she really liked. The man came back with our rings shining like new and showed my mom the ring she spotted in the case. The sales man was nice and not pushy about buying the ring, but mom did anyway! There was no charge for our rings being cleaned which was great. This place has always been helpful and the service always great. Even though I live in Katy now, my husband and I will always drive in to buy jewelry from Shaws!

I am very unhappy with not only the service of my bracelet repair - they made a diamond necklace into a diamond bracelet and it broke after 2 years and I wore it only 6 times a year and kept in a long bracelet box. I took it back and they repaired at no cost but both times the repair time they gave me exceeded into weeks and I had to keep calling them. I called today to let them know what happened and I no longer have a diamond bracelet because it broke again and fell off. I asked the woman who answers the phone to please pass this information along to the jeweler who repaired it and all she said was "ok" not I'm so sorry or anything. She always answered the phone when I call and is rude and short with me. I wish I would of taken it somewhere else to get repaired and I would of paid for this and not back to Shaw's Jewelry. 0 stars

My Fiancé (now husband) and I were looking to have a custom-made wedding band to go with my one of a kind engagement ring. We spoke to several jewelers in Houston but no one was able to make us feel comfortable and confident as Albert at Shaw’s Jewelry. The jeweler at Shaw’s then made a wax up of the ring, selected the diamond quality that we were looking for and casted the wedding band of my dreams. We were a part of this process from start to finish. Albert and the jeweler were attentive to our every need. They wanted my husband and I to be happy with their work and our purchase. We cannot say enough good things about Shaw’s jewelry and it’s dedication to quality jewelry!

I went to this store after a recommendation from a friend. I can’t tell you how disappointed I am in the misguidance and terrible customer service. I was charged $55 to size my watch (took about 45 seconds). When I asked if I would be charged for taking the watch to the Rolex store in the galleria the employee said I would be charged there too. I called the Rolex store after leaving and they said with my warranty the sizing would be free. When I called Shaw’s to report my dissatisfaction the employee told me I should have done my research before going in. Touché. He was right. So if you’re doing your research and reading this review. Do NOT give your business to the rude staff at Shaw’s. They will nickel and dime you too to the tone of $55 per minute.

We had bought closer to what resembled a cocktail ring with several diamonds on it and really wanted a custom design for our engagement ring. We found a standard gold infinity ring and had another basic gold band. Albert had a great design idea to use the four marquee diamonds between the gaps of the infinity ring and mount the main stone on top. We had a residual of 10 very small diamonds and he used them equally spaced centered around the gold band. We’re absolutely in love with it! Such a brilliant design. Can’t recommend this place enough if you want to convert or customize any jewelry they’re the right choice. Thanks again Albert!

We purchased my ring at Shaw’s in 1996 and if resizing or needing other jewelry, we ONLY go to Shaw’s. This time I needed some gold added to my band as it had been bent over the years and needed a facelift. I trusted leaving my ring with them and received an amazing “like new” ring today. Pricing is reasonable and we love this place. We refer friends often to Shaw’s and know recently of one friend who got his fiancé’s engagement ring there this summer. They are friendly and welcoming with many years of expertise.

Sales personnel are helpful with answering some questions...though it takes some probing. I think all staff, including the manager(s), could be more welcoming and engaging to customers, so as to promote sales and provide an atmosphere that is more inviting. In my particular experience, everyone at the store was sitting in silence at their desks with no concern for customers, sales, questions...except for one sales rep, and even he was eager to retreat to the back as soon as he was done showing me a few items.

In my opinion workers really need to work on their customer service skills. I walked into the establishment on two different occasions greeted by no one. Several people looked up, but not one hello or may I help you. Only after some time a young lady finally came over. Service was very minimal. I made a purchase because I was pressed for time to get my fiancee a wedding band and they could have it back it time, however I will not be returning for any future purchases nor will I be referring anyone.

He works very hard to make sure I am happy with my jewelry selections and/or repairs. Even though I usually use Kenny, I’ve been happy with any of the employees who have helped me through the years. Brought in a family heirloom ring to get resized and fixed. They did a great job. Made it all shiny and everything. Price was very reasonable. Turn around time a week. Forgot to do part of the repair but when I noticed I brought the ring back and they did it within 2 hours for no additional charge (I had already paid for the whole repair). I know nothing about jewelery and winged it by going to them based off the reviews here. Happy with my decision.

I went into Shaw's to receive information on and service a watch I had inherited. The staff was wonderful to deal with. Beautiful custom work. They designed and made a four stone diamond and sapphire necklace with the diamonds from one of my old rings. They also re-designed an enormous blue topaz pendant so that it would sit correctly. Special shout out to Albert, who designed both pieces. First class all the way. Went in to Shaw’s today for pearl wedding jewelry. Woman was very rude. I asked her multiple questions about the pieces she showed me and she kept saying she didn’t know. She also tried to prevent me from trying on a piece because she said it was “quite a bit of money.” When I didn’t find anything I liked, she suggested I check at TJ Maxx.
