Anything but simple. I connected with Simple Divorce in January 2022 to obtain a simple marriage contract/pre-nuptial agreement ahead of my July 2022 wedding to my long-term partner. To date (January 2023) the marriage contract has now cost us 3x more than what we were initially quoted by Simple Divorce, we still do not have a signed finalized marriage contract and we have hit a stand-still in the process because my partner’s lawyer (who was recommended by Simple Divorce) cannot agree with the lawyers at Simple Divorce on the verbiage in the “simple” marriage contract. My partner (now husband) and I are in agreement of the terms that need to be included in the marriage contract but for whatever reason, the lawyers cannot come up with verbiage they can agree on and continued to charge us for their time. We are now looking elsewhere to get our marriage agreement finalized. This process has been absolutely ridiculous, costly and stressful. The cherry on top is that when we informed Simple Divorce we would no longer be needing their services, it took them over a month and multiple written requests to get our remaining retainer back. I would not recommend.

A few things to consider: Always expect to pay more than the initial retainer. Regarding the separation agreement, I wanted to include medical information, but was told it wasn't necessary (over the phone). TIP: No matter how amicable your divorce is, always include the smallest details in your separation agreement. Divorce was filed by Simple Divorce in March of 2020, it was finalized by the court in Dec of 2020, and I just got the Email confirmation from Simple Divorce in August of 2021. The court failed to inform either of us for 9 months. TIP: Always insist on being included in ANY correspondence re: your case. Charged me for the Certificate of Divorce, which was already included, in the final payment. This was reconciled with an Email from the clerk. TIP: Make sure you follow up with your lawyer every few days / weeks if you don't receive your Divorce Order, that being said no one can truly know when they are supposed to receive it - only that a divorced is granted 31 days after it's filed.

Each time there was movement, I was notified by email, and told what to expect next. I discovered I never, and I repeat..never, had to ask questions. All the answers I could possibly need were produced without any questions. If there is such a thing as - smooth sailing, in any kind of Serious matter, then my experience with Simple Divorce, wins this prize!

A lot of people I spoke with prior to Simple Divorce warned me that I would need to pay additional fees to speak with my spouse's lawyer and that I would have to pay someone to serve him because he lives in the states. Simple Divorce didn't scare me with hidden fees or make my divorce sound like a nightmare. They spoke with me in plain English, helped me understand the process at each step, provided all information about fees up front and explained any possible fees that could come along the way in a manner I understood. Karen, a Law Clerk at the firm communicated with me via email a handful of times and was thorough, concise and understanding. I really appreciated their help.
