Since hearing back from Bobby, the regional manager, by phone, I am now happily and most gratefully giving them 4 stars, and only 4 because of the stress and worry I had gone through previously. Bobby went above and beyond in his customer service with me and in reaching a very satisfactory solution and outcome. He actually listened and was open to improving how to better handle their communications with their employees and their customers when extenuating circumstances may arise. I am extremely satisfied with Bobby’s handling of the situation, his care and professionalism. NOW you finally reach out and want to try and help Since I couldn’t respond to your response here’s my response. If your company REALLY wanted to work with it’s customers, I wouldn’t always receive the standard answer, “It’s not up to me, it’s corporate policy”. How is that creating good relations and above par customer satisfaction? I am a 60 year old woman on a very limited budget and have had everything I own stored there for over 2 years. During that time, I have lost jobs, most recently due to COVID-19, and have had difficulty paying what little bills I do have, as I have been forced to live with family. Not once, when I reached out, was anyone ever willing to work with me. Instead, I have late charges added and a $125 lien fee added on top of that and had to come up with over $600 in order to not lose everything. For a mother of 4 and a grandmother of 5, it created great stress as all of their childhood pictures and memorabilia were at risk of being lost. During that time, as I had stated before, you kept raising my rent! I would like to understand why I, a customer for over 2 years, is paying $80 more for my unit, compared to new customers?? Seems to me like we should all be paying the same price for the exact same unit?? Here is my current situation. I gave my 30 day notice last month and due to a shortage of rental trucks/vans, and major scrambling to find something I could afford, I ended up needing the 5 day grace period to get most of my things out, but due to the woman at the front desk telling me that the next day I’ll be charged for the next month (instead of just the $8 per day I was told I would be charged) plus a late fee, when I asked if there was any way I could have just one more day to get everything out, her scripted response was “No, it’s corporate policy”. So, if you TRULY want to make good on your request to help change my experience, then I would hope that you would just let me remove my remaining belongings with paying the $8 per day for the 6 days I had unfortunately, with circumstances that were beyond my control, needed as I did most of it by myself while having to use my car. I look forward to your prompt response so that I can take care of this and remove the rest of my belongings in a timely and realistic manner. Thank you.
The customer service of the office staff has always been an issue and I’m finally speaking out about it. I have been a customer for almost three years and have had the same experience of the staff being impatient and rude when I call to ask about my account. I live on the other side of the US away from my unit so I can only make calls and I always feel unwelcomed. Today I called because I received a voicemail that my account was 19 days late in payment. This was due to my check card being stolen. When I called, the representative Bobby, picked up and I told him about the voicemail and his tone immediately changed. I let him know it was the first time I was hearing about the late status and he started reciting all the ways you all tried to let me know via email text call and voicemail. I again explained to him that honestly this was the first time I was receiving a notification and he kept interrupting me the whole entire time and getting impatient. At that point I thanked him for his patience and asked if he could spare a few more minutes because I was trying to get clarification but he just kept interrupting and said shakingly that they had already closed and he had a family to get to. I had no idea they were closed and didn’t know why he even answered if he wasn’t going to be able to help me and give good calm customer service. I pay so much for my storage and the continual service issues are a real let down. I also double checked and only received the one voicemail despite the other attempts he said that were made. Perhaps the emails were going to my junk mail? I’ll double check. As for the texts and voicemails, I only received the one voicemail today, so perhaps there’s an issue with your system. Regardless, I didn’t deserve and never have deserved the impatient experience I have every time I have to call you all. I am coming back to AZ in April and am looking into other places I can take my business. I would have taken my business elsewhere sooner but the cleanliness and safety of this location is good. That’s your saving grace.
I should have read the reviews before renting a storage unit here. I came in to the office and asked to look at a couple storage units. Everything looked nice and clean, also felt like the storage was safe and secured so I decided to proceed with my application. I was told I was able to move in my belongings same day. I was given a card with my unit number and gate code. I went home, loaded up my car and drove back to the storage. Once I got to the gate, the code was not working!! Gate code was invalid. The office was closed by the time I got there. I stood parked for about 30-40min trying to get in contact with the storage manager but no answer!! It was a nightmare. I called the following day, the lady who answered the phone was completely rude. I brushed it off and understood things like this can happen. I drove back the following day with my sister to unload my car and seen numerous homeless people around the area and inside the storage!! We decided maybe this is not a safe area to store any belongings. We went back to the office to ask if I had the option for a refund and the lady with glasses got completely upset. Instead of her being understanding, her attitude towards me and my sister was ugly and completely rude. Apparently I was able to get a refund. My sister asked if I was able to get a copy of my receipt but the Glasses lady declined and said I’ll be getting an email receipt. Her attitude took us by surprise so we up and left. Later that day I received my email and was only given 50% !! I’m angry at myself for deciding so quickly. As I read through the reviews I can definitely understand why others had given 1star. Please don’t waste your money and time here!!
Horrible company. When they took over my rent was $168.00 and a year and a half later I'm now paying $264.00‼ when I called after the 2nd increase, questioning what would justify so many increases and was told that things like water prices go up. How much water are they using that justifies so many and such increases? Received no answer to my recent email inquiry either‼ Hmmm...I just left another review in response to your response and it is no longer there?? Ok...going to try updating my 2 previous review one last time. I am now giving them a 4 star rating, and only because of the stress and worry I had to endure in the past. I recently heard back from the District Manager(?) Bobby, via telephone and am very happy and grateful with the outcome. His professionalism and care to truly do the right thing is greatly appreciated and admirable. Bibby had a listening ear with my situation along with my input and advice about bettering their communication with their customers and to look at each case on an individual circumstances as the need arises. U am confident that he will succeed very far in his career and will assuredly make Smart Stop Self Storage #1 in customer satisfaction!! From one very grateful and happy customer!!
Brand new state-of-the-art storage site. The Site Manager, Ryan, and the Assistant Manager, Rita, are very helpful, professional, and friendly! Their goal is to take the stress out of moving and make moving in to your storage unit as simple and as fast as possible and on a personal note, Extra Space put together the perfect team for this site. The site has a lot to offer... -Indoor Climate Control Units of all sizes -Outdoor drive-up units big enough to store a car in. -RV covered parking -Gated entrance -Security Monitored -Flatbed rolling carts for tenants -Access Hours are everyday 6am-10pm -Helpful/Professional Staff Skip the headache of looking around at other storage companies (They're all filled up anyway-- Waste of time!) and get your First Month Rent Free with Extra Space! This Place has only been open since the beginning of April 2016, they have a lot of units open for rent and they are very competitive when it comes to price and you get so much value for the dollar. Trust me, you won't regret it. Huge time savor and piece of mind!
My experience with Ryan at this location was 110% amazing! He is kind, polite, personable, thorough, and has a great sense of humor too! He took me through the whole process in detail; explaining the contract, the layout of the facility, the features of the facility, etc. He walked me right to my unit to make sure I could easily find it on my own, and he checked to make sure it was clean and the door/lock worked properly, along the way pointing out all entrances, the bathroom and drinking fountain, hand carts which are available for use anytime, etc. He also went with me to the secure gate on the outside of the property to make sure my gate code worked properly. The facility itself is very accessible, clean, and set up thouroughly with surveillance. I am very pleased and thankful to have found this facility/location! I highly recommend them and would give 'em 6 stars if I could!! Thanks Ryan!
Hi I would like to start off by saying that I love the storage its self, but there is a couple barriers that I'm sure other people can relate as well too, I think more employees should be hired that way they don't close the office every time they have to show a storage or do something, because there is people like me that are really busy and it's hard to catch the staff in the office just to do a payment or it would he nice if we could just do our payments online, it would save alot of us tons of time especially when I always have to either leave or wait for someone to come back to the office and today the clock that was on the door said they would be back by 3:30pm and I got there at 2:30pm like really one hour later? Please fix this it is very inconvenient! Or make it where we can pay by phone without having to pay the extra $10.00 fee its ridiculous!
The place was so awesome, they're extremely friendly, extremely helpful, no gimmicks, no tricks. Ryan was completely honest and upfront with me about the cost and what I would be getting he even walked me around and showed me the facility. He was super friendly and made my first time renting a storage unit and pleasant experience. Defiantly recommend renting here if you need storage. Reasonable prices as well. Ended up renting a second time from here, Jessie was very friendly and helped us out, the climate controlled units are a huge plus and I feel the prices are fair and no contracts.
Extra Space Storage is nice, new, clean, safe, and friendly. Rita and Ryan were helpful from the get go and did everything possible to make the renting process as easy as possible. 1st months rent is free which was great and helps us move from another facility to Extra Space. When you pay for something you expect to get what you pay for, that is exactly what you're getting here! Our biggest deciding factor was the climate control and the security, not to mention the introductory deals! We're happy with our move! Rita and Ryan (and Extra Space) have a good thing going here!
The reason that I am giving this business one star. Is due to the fact that we can truly identify the integrity of a business during times of economic hardship. Due to recent economic downshift it would be a good practice for any business to support or assist its customers. Instead this very business will consistently hound its customers for payments and even with our state being under a strict stay at home policy, will insist that customers come down to the facility. This places not only the employees at risk but the customers as well. We have got to do better.
We came in on a Sunday afternoon just before closing and Stacey was so helpful and got us in and got us a storage unit. She had the funniest humor. She explained everything to us and even showed us our storage unit before we signed off on the agreement. I’ve rented from here before when it was extra space storage and was with them for a little while when they were taken over by smart shop, it was always clean and well maintained, I’ve never had a problem while storing here. It’s easily accessible and close to home , I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Was helping a friend move to the south of Phoenix and we went looking for storage places. We went to several with both looking pretty sketchy. Then we stopped at this location and we were both surprised. Very clean from the outside and it looked pretty secure. We went inside and it was the same, very clean. Tesla, I think that was her name was very friendly as was the other guy there who offered us some water. Max, I think was his name. Anyway, long story short, My friend got a unit at the location and at a very good price.
I left after they continuously raised the rent pretty much monthly. I went from paying around 100 to 160 and went to an Extra Space Storage facility. This SmartStop actually used to be an Extra Space location but was purchased by SmartStop which is when things got bad. Half the time 1 of the 2 elevators was broken down as well so I'd need to walk from the elevator located on the opposite end from my unit. Anyway, I was very unhappy when I left about 2 months ago. Based on my experience, I do not recommend SmartStop.
First off, the front desk dude needs some customer service training, lack of respect because he got a call to be on. Where do you come off talking to a woman any type of way, especially when you’re trying to make a sale. If I didn’t need the unit in that moment, I would’ve taken my business elsewhere. All these extra calls are unnecessary I spoke to three different people and each one doesn’t communicate with the other. It’s not my fault you had my appointment to move in time set for the afternoon.
Walking into SmartStop I automatically felt comfortable with Riley and Tesla they showed me what I first thought I wanted but ended of getting a better idea after getting a tour within minutes I was ready to sign because of the location, how secure it was and also very clean but also knowing I was getting the best. So again I thank you Riley and Tesla for helping me and making my day. Really appreciate you guys. If I could give u a extra star I would. Highly recommend.
As I reading these reviews I’m in the same boat my rent went from 167.00 to 264.00 this is outrageous and the manager told me after almost month I went in and he told me that I could move to a other one that would be much cheaper but who have the time and help for all that this is so stressful I don’t know what I’m going to do with this offer I would appreciate if someone like Bobby reach out to me please ASAP thank you!!! This is a hardship all the way around!!!
Great experience! Units and grounds are kept very clean. The application process was very quick and easy. Prices are reasonable for all that is offered. Loved the idea that the building is climate controlled and they have elevators for easier access. This location offers a great security system and they have cameras everywhere. We worked with Mr. Collins and he made the process simple and provided all the necessary information. Definitely recommend this location!
The staff is great, the company is awful. I have been using different storage unit companies on and off for 20 years. This is the first one that raises rates EVERY 4 months. It hasn't even been two years and my rate has gone up $50 a month, from $125 to $175. That's insanity. Moving an entire storage unit of 100 year old antique furniture isn't happening anytime soon, but I will absolutely never recommend this company to anyone nor will I use them ever again.
I usually never write reviews but I had the best experience here that I had to give a big thank you to SmartStop!! I needed to move my items from another storage facility within 24hrs and not only did Smartstop allow me to reserve a space while I dealt with the other nightmare facility but gave me the best deal for the twice the space I was renting! The communication and set up to moving out was a breeze! Would recommend this facility any day!
Had our travel trailer parked at this location and it was broken into twice in less than a year. . They do not walk the lot. Cost us 1500 dollars in deductibles and 8000 dollars worth of equipment. Do not park your trailer there if you have anything worth keeping. Last breakin was 7 different vehicles. Not recommend!!!!! They came in with a uhaul and loaded everyone stuff up. I am very disappointed. Some very Dis honest people out there.
I reserved a storage unit online and went in to see the unit and fill out paperwork. It was an extremely easy experience and Ryan, who showed us around and got us set up, was wonderful and fun to talk to. He helped us pick the unit that would work best for us and made sure we understood the company policies and how the facility worked. The manager for this location (Dan). Is extremely rude. I was standing next to my friend who was on the phone with him and I could hear him yelling at her. That's not what a customer should experience he didn't ask her any fact finding questions he just scolded her for being an hour late. She drove from cave creek and traffic delayed her which he claimed was ridiculous. WOW. I would never do business with this store
I'm changing my review. I am so dissatisfied with this company. They seem to raise my storage fee every six months and every year. I have two units for business storage and the quality for the increased rate is not justified. It feels like they are trying to push you out. At some point everyone is going to reach an amount that's too much. I wouldn't suggest this company if you plan on being a long-term customer.
Excellent excellent service! So helpful, I had actually reserved two units because I wanted to see what size I wanted. Tanya was helpful and delightful and I was certainly taken on a wonderful tour around the most beautiful and cleanest storage facility EVER! I had already had a storage unit but wanting to transfer because of location. I was sold because tanya was just delightful. Excited.
The women in the office were extremely professional & sweet. They made the move-in process easy as possible and after I had moved out I had forgotten to call the office and they went ahead and processed my move out so that I wouldn't get charged for the next month. The grounds are also always kept clean. I would definitely recommend this location if you're looking to store your property.
I recieved excellent customer service from B Barnes. What I liked about the service was how prompt he was able to answer all of my questions. I chose this storage company because it makes me feel comfortable having my items stored with the extra security and knowing I can sleep at night. If you are searching for quality this is definitely the place.
Much like the other reviews of price increases, I was informed would be increasing the cost of my unit. They justify this with “current market conditions”. So annoyed, will be ending my contract with them. Have also had multiple issues with my code not working and was not notified that they were having issues with customers gaining access.
It is secure for the most part. However, the area is full of homeless. I believe they also have homeless sleeping in the storage spaces. They rent a space and return once Management Team leaves for the day. I gave 4 stars because it is worse at other storage places near by. The office has been armed robbed at least once that I am aware of.

This place is run by criminals from Arizona Prison to be exact. They will try to 'charge' for cleaning, late, damage when there is NONE, one day late and they charge you for the entire month. Then they use their OWN collections agency! RUN BY a guy who got out of prison for fraud (17 years here in AZ)

do not buy units on auctions from this place. I bought a unit and the pictures didn't match when i got there. looks like someone went through the stuff before I got there. at the end I got my money back but you end up with the feeling that someone took all the good stuff. seems like a scam.

The customer service was great! I was able to look at a few available units upon walking in. The units inside the building are climate controlled and they have elevators and carts for you to use. I hope to keep having good things to say about them as I have rented out a unit.

This is a month late, but I had a great experience renting with smartstop. Bobby, Stan, and that other guy who isn't important anymore were amazing. I would give them 6 stars if I could. They were really helpful, and answered all my questions.
I have no idea how this place has more than 2 stars. The management is terrible. Calls are almost never returned. The online chat works but they ask you for every piece of information on file before they answer the simplest questions. There
I got locked out on a sunday night and my storage unit was wide open. There is no one to call to open up because the listed phone numbers were wrong. My worst nightmare. My belongings exposed to the world. There definitely needs to be a fix

Don’t use this place to store your belongins?? They where broken into and they did not one thing.. they would not even show us the camera footage. Which means most likely a inside job. They would not even let the police look it.

Great customer service! We checked rates of all nearby storage facilities and ended up choosing Smart Stop Storage. We paid about 1/3 of what the competitors wanted to charge. The space was exactly what we needed.
Our catalytic converter was stolen.our cabin door showed attempted break-in damage They said they had “reason to believe” they had a problem. Then they found our problem. We are scheduled for trips in one week!!

Great service from the time we walked in to get our unit to when we left. Store manager Tanya was awesome, helpful and made my moving experience easier and less stressful.
Ryan was very nice and helpful. Facility is new clean and very well kept. Cameras and great security is also shown. Over all I'm super happy I choose this storage unit.
