What a find! I stumbled across this place when visiting the amazing butcher shop (Joeys) next door. They have amazing baked goods from cakes, tarts, pastry dishes, vetkoek and many more. Their take away pies are very popular. We had the sausage roll, bobotie and pepper steak. All were freshly baked, very tasty, filling and high quality. The cafe seems cozy and definitely very popular, although we didn't visit that part so can't comment on service. The staff at the bakery were very friendly and helpful. The ladies at the tills are a bit "stiff" and seemed bored with the customers, but that didn't detract from my experience as they certainly were not rude. A great place to get your home baked goods. This is a review for Smiling Oven's in-house coffee shop, Kitchen Kafe. Smiling oven is great (especially the freshly baked treats and smoked chicken salad) but the in-house coffee shop is not recommended. Each time I've been there the service has been slow. The food average and the prices on par with Mugg&Bean, so I'd rather support M&B when it comes to quality of food. Also something that isn't obvious is that the coffee shop and the bakery are operated as separate, so you don't have the option of ordering some of the items available on the shelf. They wouldn't allow me to buy one of Smiling Oven's salads and then eat it at a table with my partner who was ordering from Kitchen Kafe.

Awesome service from Sharon this am, we ordered 3 platters for next weekend for an 80th birthday, and Special cake as well . Mixed Sweet and Savoury Platter, Birthday Cake

I was at The Smiling Oven this morning for breakfast- Mini Breakfast. Although the service was good, the entire meal was cold and not tasteful; from the eggs, bacon, chips and toast. NOT sure what went wrong. I even mentioned it to the waitress..She could not even give me an answer. I have been there before, but this time round it was an absolute disappointment. I'm cofident that it will be rectified and looking forward to my next visit.

It has the best milktarts around. Nothing comes close to it. The pastry is fresh and crispy, and the milktart mixture is light and fluffy, with a beautiful creamy texture. Oh yes and they have a wonderful selection of other cakes, tarts, Pines and saviourys delights on offer. Not to forget that they have a little tea room to enjoy your cake. This is a place where you can have your cake and eat it.

Delicious cocktail savouries and sweets make up the perfect platters for a birthday or a workshop. Smiling Oven also has whole pies, quiches, tarts and cakes for order or on the shelf to buy. Location is in the heart of Somerset West so unless you are in the area it is too far to get there. They have a sit down cafe inside where you can enjoy their goodies over tea and coffee.

We love to eat at Smiling Oven! Food is genuinely "home-food"- satisfying and nutricious! Also the staff are so friendly and helpful- always a pleasure! And off course, the pensioners menu hits just the right spot! Well done- we have become loyal customers- by visiting and by word of mouth! Liver again please-it brought back so many memories and was prepared just right!!

They have the most amazing meat pies. Try their steak pies, they have a solid piece of steak on them. No glycerin, no gristle, or soupy gravy. Just what they advertise. Their chicken is also good, it only has chicken in. I haven't tried their other pies, but will add to my review when I try them. Their milk tarts and cakes are also nice.

Great to grab a quick bite. Smiling Oven is located near all the industrial buildings in Strand offering workers great meals at great prices with a home made taste. Smiling Oven is very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. There is also a restaurant inside if you do not want take aways.

Found it was expensive and quite taken back had my 2 grand kids with me who ate very fast. Lady serving us removed their empty plates and ofcause i was still eating. She started clearing the table including the sauces while i was eating. Not impressed and i stopped eating and paid and left

What a lovely relaxing place! The roast pork belly and eisbein is a .must try-tender and soo delicious was accompanied by a free coffee or tea. Price affordable. On the whole it exceeded our expectations, so if you in somerset west you must give it a try. Friendly and helpful staff too.

Excellent food fairly priced and very friendly staff, giving great service. It is just a pity that the Apple crumble and hertzoggie tartlets are very dry and tasteless, it is as if an ingredient was left out or something went wrong with the recipe. Very disappointing...

Best cheesecake! Great oxtail, but sometimes portions are a bit small! (However, management rectified). Friendly service, special menus for pensioners, e.g. reduced prices for combo meals like cake & coffee etc. Meals and cakes etc can be bought to take home also.

The smell of deliciousness when you walk into the shop, is just amazing!! I always feel like a kid in a candy store when I go there, you want to try everything!! They have the best pies and melktert. The ladies working there is super friendly and always smiling.

Koeksisters wonderful, melktert delicious, quiche and salad and omelette too. Although only in the Cape for a few days, each day we came back - we had coffee & cake with friends, lunch with family and then breakfast on our last day too. Staff great. Thank you.

Smiling oven is one of those fantastic stops where you find something sweet or savoury baked to perfection. On route to the Overberg it's a must to pick up that all important supper and snack. Their samoosas is the best. Juicy and crispy and not too hot.

A favorite in the Helderberg. Known for baking and confectionery, but but don't miss out on their breakfast & lunch menu. Hearty boerekos at great prices. I had the Curry Afval, and I and will be back! There is still lamb shank, skaapnek etc to go!

Bought a cake with mould, only saw it once home. Were told to return it for replacement, but were then told to pay R45 upcharge, as the replacement was more expensive. My diesel driving up and down was more. You've lost my future business

What a hidden gem of a restaurant. Real good, home made, large portion, honest food made by cooks who are passionate about cooking. A must visit. The baked melktert is the best in the Cape. So unpretentious, excellent prices.

Although their cake and milktarts are some of the best some of their staff not very friendly or helpful. The paypoint also not clearly marked and the lady working on the side where you collect your orders also quite rude.

A great place to meet an old friend. The atmosphere is peaceful and the menu is fair. Specially catering for retirees is also a nice touch. And, of course, the sweet tooth section you can stroll through. Love this place.

Always has the best food plasters, and best desert and food for when you have a party or a special occusion. I recommand to order here and to get snacks and food here, there is also a place to sit and order food as well.

Good food on good price. In winter, there is a fire to make people feel warm. Especially, the breakfast is awesome. But their coffee is not recommended. Keep in mind that this is just my opinion and my experience.

Things changed a lot. The service before Covid-19 was always perfect. Now it is pathetic. Full of excuses and the choices for big catering are reduced so much. No effort from staff to be helpful.
