But let's get specific and talk about Jamie (my stylist). Right away you know she's a Mom. She asks you how you are and checks in with how you're doing throughout the wash, cut, blow out and style. I felt VERY taken care of. I'm not a sensitive headed person but IF YOU ARE then you have to go to Jamie! She's so gentle and detail-oriented. Sure it takes a little extra time but have you ever left a haircut and felt like you had a combination of a therapy session and a relaxing full body massage? All Jamie did was cut my hair but I feel so special and taken care of that afterwards I feel like I'm floating off the ground by a couple of inches! She is such a lovely and sweet person! I don't have a before picture - honestly you wouldn't believe the transformation anyway. A TOTAL upgrade to the rag-a-muffin vibes I had before. With my new hair upgrade, I imagine myself a bombshell on-screen beauty or some vixen in dark sunglasses and red lipstick. Grateful to the team that's developing at Modern Collective Studios. Located just South of another new favorite, 30 Min HITT (a kickboxing gym that focuses on Women's strength) and across the street from Wheatsville. If you live in the area, give all 3 a visit! Even if you have to drive a little ways, I say, "do it!" Treat yourself to a day of self-care. Work-out, grab a bite to eat and get your hair done! You'll be happy you visited such an awesome collective of people that truly treat you like family. Thank you for making me feel so special! Will be back!

An Asian lady with long orange hair was my stylist(Idk her name) and she screwed my hair up so bad…she cut it so much shorter than I asked for and messed up the layers even though I showed her photos before. She also did a really bad job with shampooing(I was in the chair for maybe 4 mins she didn’t even scrub my scalp properly). Then when styling I wanted a blow out but she used a straightener and was tugging and hurting my hair the whole time. Even when brushing it she wasn’t using proper technique to prevent breakage. I asked her to use heat protectant and she just said she’ll lower the heat on the straightener(which if you know anything about hair damage you know lowering the heat is even worse because it makes you have to go over the hair strand multiple times which is more damaging than using high heat). Finally I told her it wasn’t what I asked for and she got another more experienced stylist Cam to recut my layers. Cam was able to make the layers look a little better but the length was still gone. I was super upset and I hate my hair - I regret getting it cut. If you do go here only go to Cam. Update after 2 months: definitely the worst haircut I’ve ever gotten - my hair shape looks awful, it looks thin at the bottom and the layers are so badly done they don’t blend together properly at all - this woman really ruined my confidence and i don’t recommend anyone go to her

I have found my new hair stylist in Austin! My hair was in desperate need of a cut and Cam brought it back to life. My hair was so dull, limp and needed volume. He is definitely a master at texture and layering because my hair feels absolutely fabulous. I love that he kept my long length like I asked. I also got my hair colored after 4 years of being traumatized from coloring my hair blonde and silver in the past. To ease back into color, I wanted to stay dark so he did a brown color with the AirTouch technique. No bleach was involved and I love how it turned out! I did not know this was possible on my dark black hair but he worked his magic and the color came out great. The products that he used on my hair smells so good. If you are looking for a new hair stylist, Cam is the one! Great pricing and great person who knows exactly what he is doing. I appreciate his years of experience and education with hair.

Finally, the search is over! I’ve been here twice now, and Mark has exceeded my expectations both times. My hair has been called difficult by no less than 10 hairstylists over the years, but Mark worked quickly and efficiently to give me the best cut and perfectly blended highlights. Today was my second visit and normally I’m very nervous and want to make sure I know exactly what they’ll be doing with my hair before even starting, due to multiple negative experiences before. But with Mark, I just gave him a very vague description of what I wanted and trusted that he’d make sure it looked amazing. You’re in very good hands with Mark, he’s truly a master, and a wonderful conversationalist that makes you feel beautiful and at ease. Çok teşekkür ederim, Mark!

My friends have gotten beautiful hair coloring here with Master Cam and his signature Air Touch. I scheduled last minute with Sara to get my roots colored and a trim. She’s new to Austin and I wanted to give her some love and I’m happy I found her. She was sweet and friendly and understood my need for super strength gray coverage. I also got my hair cut and styled by Sara before a family photo shoot and was happy with my bouncy curls and no signs of silver “sparkles”. She has weekend appointments available and I was able to squeeze in on a Sunday! The salon is spacious, light filled, and zenful with lovely violin music and tranquil, warm energy. My expectations were to cut the least amount of hair off and thin my hair. Jacob restated my expectations and then elaborated and discussed how he could apply my expectations to reality. He followed through with what we had discussed which I appreciated because usually hairdressers end up cutting 6 inches off and he stayed to the 2 inch proximity he had discussed with me at the beginning. Jacob did not rush with my hair. He thinned every inch of my hair literally and he framed my face beautifully. With that being said, I am reserved and do not like conversation. Jacob did not make me feel like I had to converse with him and when we did have conversations they felt personable, like I was talking to a friend.

This was my first time at Smooshine and I am so incredibly happy and impressed with the results and overall establishment. I got my hair done by Mark, who was able to give his fashion expertise and advice while doing my hair which ultimately elevated my whole look from what was originally planned in my head. Not to mention, he cut a service that usually takes other stylist 5-6 hours to do on me down to 2-3 hours. My whole head was foiled in under an hour and he had no help. The time cut did not sacrifice the quality either, and I get my hair done a lot so I would know if it was messed up. Haha. The rest of the team there are very friendly, I will be back again!

Thank you Mark! My mom & I came in for the first time to see Mark at his new location since he left his other salon. We’ve been loyal customers of his since we heard of him 2 years ago. We usually have color, cut & style but this time we went just for a hair cut. Both Mark and Smooshine Salon gave us an exceptional high quality modern boutique style experience at a very reasonable price. Not only does Mark get you in & out fast but he is amazing at giving you the look that you desire & that you look amazing in, whether it’s safe & classy or fun & trendy. A true artist! Everyone was friendly and welcoming and Robin is hands down the kindest, least pretentious stylist I've ever worked with and just an amazing human in general. She really talked through everything with me and not just color but scalp health and products I could use. I loved the way her and Randal tag teamed and ran ideas by eachother too. I usually never leave reviews but I had to come and write one for Robin. Not only was she the most amazing stylist but the most amazing person! As my first (official) salon visit, I have never felt more pampered and validated than in Robin's chair. She eased my indecisiveness with her professional opinions and made my experience so enjoyable! I don't think there was a moment where I wasn't laughing or smiling. I seriously can't recommend her enough (Randal was a wonderful bonus stylist I got to work with as well). Thank you for everything!!!

Master Cam was very professional from start to finish. He was highly educated and walked me through the whole process - also pulled out a color book for me to have a better understanding. He also seemed very knowledgeable of different hair textures and how it develops, which was really important to me since I have naturally curly hair. I’ve never had such a thorough process at a salon until I came here. Hair also turned out beautiful. Better than I expected! 10/10 experience. Will definitely be back for my future hair appointments.

I booked a color + cut with Randal and arrived a little before my time-slot but was still seated right away. He’s super sweet and fun to talk with on top of being a great stylist :). He got my hair to a dark, dark black (which I love) and talked me through the process of cutting my hair while asking for my thoughts here and there. He also offered to do a free retouch if in the coming week I felt iffy about my haircut which was rlly nice— don’t think I’ll need it though because I was really satisfied!!

My previous stylist left earlier this year so I researched for months to find a new stylist until I found Cam/Smooshine. I was impressed by his portfolio (as he works with a lot of Asian hair) and the service prices. I shared with him the looks I aimed for but was open to his feedback. We went for an air touch chocolate balayage. Cam explains his techniques while doing your hair. He exceeded my expectations. He truly is a master colorist. I hope to see him again for my hair needs.

This is an amazing first time experience. Mark was very knowledgeable, he really knew what he was doing and he’s such a funny guy. I recently went to Smooshine for the first time and had my hair cut by Mark. It had been a while since my last cut and he took it from lifeless to absolutely gorgeous. This place is so modern, cute, and full of good people! I always go to Randal for my balayage/highlights and he does it perfect every time. I like to get a natural balayage with a soft fade and he's super good at that. I have also seen his other work and it looks like he can do a wide variety and it all turns out amazing!
