I recently tried Spearmint Dental and although it took almost 3 hours to complete a cleaning and checkup, they were very apologetic for the wait. I had an appointment in between so I had to leave and come back but I didn't mind as I knew they were busy with an unexpected procedure and the staff all seemed quite friendly. When I received my statement through my benefits however it did not cover a charge they had submitted for. Prior to getting my teeth cleaned I had asked to ensure everything was covered including the xrays and told that yes it was and if something wasn't that they wouldn't charge me for it. I was trying to use up my remaining dental benefits for the year so I didn't want anything done that wasn't covered. When the dentist submitted the claim they used a cost code that is not covered even though a different cost code for the exact same services is covered 100%. When I phoned to ask what had happened I was told it was because I was a first time visitor. I explained that I had inquired prior to any work being completed that I had asked and was told that it is up to me to know what my benefits cover. The lady I talked to was quite rude and I explained to her that the services I had done are covered but not under the code they submitted. She told me she would talk to the dentist but he would say the same thing as her that there was nothing they could do. She had told me the dentist was away for a couple days and she would get back to me. I never did hear back and did not receive a bill for additional costs until the New Year. Although they had removed the charge for the checkup which I was happy to see, it is disappointing that they did not mail out the bill so I could have submitted it under my Health Spending account prior to the end of the year and get reimbursed in the New Year. I now have to pay these costs out of my pocket. The staff I dealt with the night of my appointment were quite friendly however I would not return to Spearmint due to my interaction with the lady after the fact, having not received a call back, no further communication and now having to pay additional fees out of my pocket rather than being able to claim them as they were last years expenses.

I took my daughter to have her teeth pulled since they've been loose for months and her adult teeth are grown in. She won't pull them herself or let me pull them. It was as if they didn't want to pull them. They were busy, I understand, but they kept making us wait and did a couple different x-rays to check all the teeth were coming in properly. Then the assistant/hygenist kept talking to my daughter and scaring her. She was putting the emphasis on it being my daughters decision who pulls them. They had already confirmed the teeth are loose enough and ready/need to come out so the adult teeth can move forward. My daughter was calm and agreeable but they basically ended up talking her out of it. So in the end they didn't pull them. Yes my daughter was scared but instead of making her feel comfortable it's like they were giving her more information to scare her. She's 6 and will be scared no matter who pulls them, she doesn't want them to be pulled out because she's scared of it hurting. So instead of providing minimal information and putting the emphasis on the fact that her teeth need to come out and that they will do all they can to make it as comfortable as possible, they gave her a lot of information and put the decision in her hands, now they said that if we don't get her teeth out in the next week at home, to bring her back. I just felt like we wasted over an hour of our day scaring my daughter even more than she already was. I understand they want to make the dentist a comfortable place for children so that they aren't scared of the dentist but it just felt like they were trying to discourage us from having her teeth pulled there, despite the fact that they can numb her gums and make it the most comfortable experience.

So, first off - not too proud to admit the shortcomings of my dental hygiene, but to give full credit to how wonderful, accommodating, and uplifting this atmosphere is, I am willing too. I would also like to state that I have extremely sensitive teeth and so even drinking water at a cooler temperature can cause me discomfort. I have gotten a lot of work done here at spearmint dental over the last few years including: Wisdom teeth extraction More fillings than I’d like to admit And a root canal. And I will soon be going back for crowns. So I’ve basically gotten all the “scary” procedures done - and without sedation. The staff here have gone above and beyond to ensure that I was comfortable: mentally, emotionally and physically. Constantly checking in throughout my procedures, and being so adamant on informing them if and when I feel anything. They were always so understanding and compassionate toward the amount of numbing solution I needed and made sure I as a patient was included and well informed of everything: from the ladies at the front desk - to the operating dentist. All my questions and slight anxieties were welcomed, and I was treated with such high respect. I don’t remember everyone’s name, but the dentist I see is Dr.Vanhorn - and can I just say her care for her patients is beyond. I won’t go anywhere else. I highly recommend this dentistry to anyone. Such an amazing atmosphere.

Wanted to love it. First appointment went really well for myself. I brought my son along so he could see and wouldn't be nervous when I brought him back for his cleaning. The hygienist was accommodating and patient with all his questions. Second appointment was for my son's - that hygienist was a tad condescending for me but it was overall okay. Third appointment did not go well. Dr. Vanhorn did a tooth extraction on my young child that was traumatizing - one that I'm now questioning if it actually needed to happen.. She claims the baby needle wasn't working at the time and without even consulting with me first, went in and used an adult needle on him - did about 5 injections total on him which seems excessive to me, then ripped his tooth out. I had to sit and listen to his screaming and couldn't sleep that night after my son told me he felt everything. The next day I spoke to a friend about it and she told me her son had to get his tooth extracted at another dentist but they used anaesthesia so he didn't even remember what happened. I never knew this was an option. I don't know if I can bring myself to take him back for the follow-up appointments.

I chipped a tooth over the weekend and decided to try a new dentist, who was more conveniently located to me. As it was a Sunday, I sent in an appointment request via email, now expecting to receive a reply until Monday at the earliest. I was surprised by a phone call from Shelley, the office manager, who came in to complete some admin work. Shelley was friendly and very personable. She gave me the information on what my coverage costs would be and booked me in for the first appointment that fit my time schedule. When I arrived that Thursday morning, she remembered details of our conversation and confirmed that my previous X-rays had been successfully received from my previous dentist. My dentist (AJ) came in and was relaxed, unpretentious yet instilled a sense of confidence in me. He and the technician joked with me and were a very efficient and enjoyable team. AJ made sure to check his work with me, explained the procedure well and made me feel like I was listened to when it came to getting the bonded filling just right. I left happy and will absolutely be making this office my go-to moving forward! Thanks Team!

well I must say.... I was absolutely terrified at the thought of getting my teeth worked on even though they needed desperately to be worked on. I came in to Spearmint Dental a couple years ago to get accessed and I just didn't come back, then a couple years later when my teeth were getting to point of no return I decided to come back to the super nice people here at Spearmint, and being honest.... if it wasn't for these totally amazing folks here I wouldn't have been able to go through with it. together (they lol) we came up with a financial and care plan to get the job done. They constantly went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and understood what was happening at all times and no matter how ridiculous my questions were they always had a quick and precise answer for me. I still have a lot of work be done, and I'm actually looking forward to coming back and hanging out with my new friends, thanks a million Steph, Rose and of coarse Dr Bhasin. you guys are so awesome and I wouldn't feel like I do now if it wasn't for you folks!!!

As a grown man it’s humbling to publicly admit I’ve been deathly afraid of the dentist as long as I can remember. However if there is one thing that’s inescapable, besides taxes, it’s that eventually you are probably going require a visit to what I used to call “the merchants of pain”. I found Spearmint Dental online and decided to give them a try. Although walking through the front door I felt as though I just might freeze up and not actually make it through the door...But I made it and was immediately disarmed by the friendly staff working at the front desk. I’m not sure I will ever be able to say a root canal or a cavity is a pleasant experience, but the two dentists I’ve seen at Spearmint went a long easy to ensure I was as comfortable as a person can be in a dental chair. A soft general touch really goes a long way to making the experience as positive as possible. I highly recommend Spearmint for anyone experiencing some dental anxiety or if you just love going to the dentist...right...

I had to go get a cavity filled and I had a new dentist/hygienist working on me than I usually do, Dr. Huang. I really liked how he did the filling, it felt normal, not like there was extra tooth like it has in the past. So I asked him if he could put a note in my file to have him as my preferred dentist in the future. Then he says “well hopefully you’ll take better care of your teeth and there won’t be a next time” Okay, I DO take good care of my teeth. I have a Sonicare I use 2x a day and I floss and use mouthwash. I told him this and that actually, I have bad teeth genes and he told me that 99% of cavities can be avoided with proper dental hygiene. He made me feel ashamed and gross. I am very upset. I won’t be going back here. This is the 2nd time someone here has shamed me about my teeth. On a previous trip, one of the hygienists told me to take better care of my teeth as well. It’s a shame Dr. Dewar retired, I’ve never had a more amazing dentist.

I have had great experiences with Spearmint so Imagine my shock when I referred my husband there and he came home complaining of serious pains from teeth cleaning..pains he had never felt haven done teeth filling and cleaning in other dental offices. Despite the fact that his gum was numbed with injection, he still felt so much pain and asked the dentist to stop the procedure after complaining that she was too harsh during the procedure. I asked if he knew the Dentist's name who he mentioned was a female because I really intended to mention her here to prevent this from happening again. Another appointment has been scheduled this Saturday the 20th of October to continue the procedure which will obviously attract additional charge which should not have been if the dentist had done a careful job in the first place. Please let us be professional, calm, compassionate, considerate for client's comfort and honest here. thank you.

They are not friendly, they judge you according to your insurance and decide for you even if you are approved for service they refuse to let you know. I was approved for denture but because I was holding adult health benefit they never let me know. My daughter supposed to have the appointment in October 2017 and for the same reason, they never called her. They even decide for her since she was included in my health benefit and orthodontist is not covered with that insurance they never refer her and never told me they just use our insurance to charge us for orthodontist consultation. It is my decision if the service is not covered to pay or not to pay but they decide for us and rudely telling us you are not covered and that is why we never let you know to decide. So, it is up to you people to decide what kind of professional people are they (sought location).

My co-worker recommended me to Spearmint Dental as my teeth were bothering me after I bite into a piece of metal. I showed up without an appointment and the girls at the front desk were truly amazing. They took me in to have a consultation with Dr Sherry Van Horn. I was in so much pain and I was comforted by Dr Van Horn immediately , as we discussed my options, I felt that she really cared about her patients and really took the time to go into detail about what we needed to do together to resolve my dental pain. After my first visit I knew right away that going forward this will be my New go to Dental Clinic so I transferred my chart over to this office. Went there like 4 years ago for cleaning and cavity filling. One hygienist took 3 hours to clean my teeth which I have never experienced before at the other dentists. Three hours later I saw the bill at the reception and it was over $100 after 80% of my insurance coverage. I complained to the receptionist (old white lady with a hoarse voice) that I didn't know the treatment was 3 hours long and I have been charged more than $100 just for a cleaning) and said "but you had that treatment done so you need to pay for that" I have never seen such a rude receptionist like her, she didn't even apologized, and whole time the way she talked was so bossy. This place is a scam and should be avoided!

I’ve had my cleaning at spearmint dental in the Southside in ellerslie. I met doctor van Horne after my first time going there for my cleaning and a year later got my wisdom teeth out which was two days ago , Dr. Van Horne made me feel so comfortable , she followed up with my medical conditions and made sure I got the best treatment based on mental reasons and overall just cared about my safety and health over everything , she got my wisdom teeth out perfectly and gave me lots of advice and is even still so very helpful as I’m focusing on getting better. Hands down the best doctor I’ve ever had she’s amazing! Highly recommend coming to this location I am very happy with my service etc.

Great dentist and very friendly staff. Since I live in the area this has become my local dentist, and the staff all was treat me like a family member. They remember details about my life and ask me how they are, they offer food and beverages to anyone who is in the waiting room, and they're overall very friendly. The dentist is very knowledgeable, and really knows what he's doing. I've trusted him to remove all four of my wisdoms. The day after Halloween it's worth checking to see if they'll buy your spare candy. To prevent kids teeth from rotting, in past years the dentists has purchased candy from kids. Great guy, great place, and I defiantly recommend it.

Recently had 2 teeth fixed here one was a root canal on the very rear upper molar and they did an amazing job. I was expecting tons of pain afterwards that they prescribed a painkiller for. They must have done a top notch job because the pain isn't bad at all still haven't had to take a pain killer. Wait times are non existent here and the staff is very Profesional. I felt like I was being taken care of absolute professionals during my procedure. I plan on doing all my dental work here in the future. Pricing was really reasonable as well 10/10 recommend their services .

I went for hygeine appointment.. receptionist is welcoming , the assistant did her job perfectly.. Lateron I extracted the wisdom tooth, Dr. Zac did an excellent job and he made sure that iam comfortable the whole time, however i had dry socket (exposed jaw bones) later on and was on sever pain of which he did not do a proper check up to figure out the problem saying that i was healing just fine and I ended up bearing up with sever horrible pain for a whole week bcoz of misdiagnosis.. Overall its a good clinic and hopefully my bad experience wont be repeated..

My whole family has been going to this dental clinic for more than five years already. All the staff are very friendly from the receptionist, assistants, to the doctor. Me and my kids have the same dentist (Dr. Nikkita Muwanguzi) who I am very thankful for because of how much she took care of our teeth without feeling any pain, for giving us the best options , and for making us feel relax and comfortable before doing any procedure. To the assistants Reema and Gladys who were very friendly and helpful to our needs. Thank you all for your wonderful service.

Went in because of a broken retainer. Surprisingly, this was the only place out of 7 orthodontists/dentists which I inquired into that was actually willing to schedule an emergency appointment ASAP to help me. Other places wanted me to come in almost a week later. The staff were extremely friendly and patient with me. Dr. Muwanguzi took the time to explain all the options, and didn't try to push me into simply going with the priciest one in order to maximize profit. I sincerely respect that. I plan to come here from now on for all my dental needs.

Excellent experience having an old filling replaced. The office manager is very friendly and organized and made sure I was aware of my benefit coverage in advance of the appointment. The dentist and dental assistant made me feel very comfortable and I didn't have to wait for this appointment or my dental hygeine appointment. Dr Jalota made the freezing basically painless and even though it was a pretty big filling, I basically forgot about it once I left the office - dental artistry!

I have had a number of complicated dental procedures since I started attending Spearmint Dental 3 months ago. I have found all of the staff to be extremely caring, professional and dedicated. This includes the reception, dental assistants, dental hygienist as well as the dentists. They provided clear explanations and ensured that I was kept as comfortable as possible. When my dentist closed their doors 3 hours before my boys appointment I frantically called spearmint and they were able to get my boys in the next day for their cleaning and exams . The Spearmint Dental team in the South West Edmonton are amazing! Friendly receptionists to greet you in a very clean environment. Dr. Basin and Reema treated me so well for my root canal procedure. Have been going to Dr. Dewar since I was a child. Dr. Dewar moved over to Spearmint before retiring. As much as I miss him I would of never known of this clinic if it wasn't for him relocating. Dr. Kern is my go to dentist and I trust him. Rebecca dental hygienist is friendly and had my best cleaning in a long time. If you have sensitive teeth I recommend Rebecca.

Had an appointment for a cleaning , x-rays , and to have some root tips removed . The Front end staff was professional and polite . My Hygienist Lisa was friendly and thorough . The receptionists are warm, welcoming, and pretty hilarious. My hygienist, Lisa, was amazing! She really helped me feel comfortable and she did great work. I’m a extremely nervous patient ... I have only felt with spearmint and it is the only dental clinic I have stayed with for a while there prices aren’t to bad and the staff are friendly! If I’m to nervous (as I was today ) the dentist left and came back until I got calmed down I would highly recommend this clinic above all the rest

I was really worried about going to the dentist as it has been a long time. The staff are very friendly and everyone made me feel very comfortable. Just went to get my teeth cleaned for the first time in two years. Was super nervous but every single person here was super sweet and not judgmental at all and made me feel so at home. They answered all my questions and were so patient explaining everything to me. Will be going back again.

I have never had a dentist check my face, neck and jaw as throughly as the dentist here. Even when I opened my mouth she was checking my jaw and looking at my gums, tongue and tissues for irregularities. Then each tooth was checked and a reminder put on the chart to recheck specific teeth.

The staff was amazing! I normally have a hard time at the dentist due to a bad gag reflex but everyone who helped me was fantastic (Dr. Muwnguzi, Apeksha -hygenist, Gladys-RDA). One of the best experiences I've had at the dentist. Would recommend to anyone who has issues at the dentist.

Doctor Zac, Rose and Stephanie were all amazing over the past week with urgent Wisdom teeth problems. Everyone was very caring and got me fixed up. Dr Zac is very careful and explained everything that was happening. They are taking new patients and I highly recommend this great place!

I love how picky the dentist is with his work. I chipped my front teeth when I was a child and recently had the veneers replaced at Spearmint. Dr. Bhasin did an almost invisible job. You really can’t see that they’re veneers. Thank you!

Dr Van Horne is the most caring dentist I have ever had. All my kids have seen her for dental care for the last 14 years. She is especially good with my son who has autism. I trust her opinion and skills. I highly recommend her!

This is a well-run clinic. Staff are friendly and efficient. Dr. Kern was great (super amicable)... explained his exam findings to me well. And Lisa, the hygienist was stellar. I would truly recommend Spearmint Dental.
