'I am making art' workshop. I went to the workshop with my 8 year old son and we loved the venue, thought the cafe was excellent and I really enjoyed my creative efforts. I think adults and younger children got a lot out of the session. However, my son was too old to play unselfconsciously with the materials but too young to feel confident devising his own project and I think he would have benefitted from a worksheet of ideas or some kind of a 'challenge'. As it was I was trying to keep him busy while I did my own stuff, which wasn't idea.

Spike Island is the island towards the south of Bristol, it has many attractions including the SS Great Britain, there are some nice walks along the waterside, you can walk from Queens Square all the way to the Create Centre (or you could get the boat to Nova Scotia and have a pint in the cottage instead). There is a popular cafe called Brunels Buttery where you can get a cuppa and M Shed where you can learn about Bristol especially it's industrial past.

Painted Object I am Making Art Really great open work shop providing materials and a chance to work with found objects. Well facilitated workshop in which participants were encouraged to work with colour, texture and 3D to enhance their personal practice. Tutors were helpful and encouraging, objects and materials provided were great.

Unique in its scale & complexity, so many people work here making art, film, design and exhibitions. A great cafe at Emmeline and an important gallery space with regular exhibitions of significant art. Absolutely worth regular visits and don’t miss the Open Studios around 1st May annually.

Lovely little cafe bar with simple but tasty menu, with loads of vegan options and great cakes, in a light and spacious space surrounded by plants and books. The adjoining gallery itself hosts a range of brilliant and through provoking exhibitions that are always worth a visit.

  • Susan Bahnsen

An excellent contemporary gallery with a great exhibition space and friendly and knowledgeable staff. They run fantastic art workshops for adults and children providing all expertise, equipment and materials required. They also have a lovely cafe.

An interesting gallery which is constantly changing. It’s free to go in but you can donate which I know they appreciate very much when people do. There’s a cafe there too, I think it’s not run by the gallery but works well in conjunction with.

An art space with a nice cafe attached. Lots of practicing artists are housed in the studios. There is a large exhibition space showing a wide range of contemporary art. Free to get in. Always thought provoking. Occasionally pleasingly

Fabulous gallery surrounded by nice harbour side walks and attractions. Key features include a well lit atrium in the gallery space and a nice cafe.

Popped in to the café for lunch, not knowing what to expect, it's a light bright space, very clean with friendly staff. The food was great, large portions, nice presentation, served quickly, we really enjoyed it. Thanks very much!

Arrived late in the day with 2 hungry children and the staff couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. The menu is scrumptious and crafted with care. A great range of beverages for bigs and littles too. Love this place.

We had really good fresh food here. It's all organic, and interesting and small menu. Highly recommended. I visited with my family, who are discerning, fussy and allergic, and they were all well satisfied.

The cafe has the best sandwiches ive ever had. They are huge and extremely reasonably priced. Photo attached is half of the sandwich (other half already consumed), priced at 6.90. Great atmosphere too

Went on an open day with all the individual artists' studios open. It's an honour to have so much incredible talent in our city. Diverse, surprising and shocking you'll find it all here.

  • Aleksandra Novikova

An island with a great big spike on it. My uncle Bernie slipped on the ice and was impaled on the spike. He was a great bloke and we miss him dearly.
