"Disgusting experience!, having had my first 2 children at this hospital with fantastic midwives i didn't mind going back, the first midwife was fantastic, the second was awful! previous experience was every time it was change over with the midwifes they would do all the checks once over again to update, but this was never done!, i was left to my own device, i then had to get my partner to check me over as i could feel a head coming down, after he confirmed this he rang the buzzer, no one showed, by this point 5 minutes had passed and i already had a head between my legs!, rang the buzzer again, still no response, after 5 minutes and struggling to keep my baby from coming out we rang the buzzer a 3rd time, by this point a member of staff come in, whilst trying to push me towards the bed (which was a struggle with a baby between my legs!) she told us she was unable to do anything and had to wait for the midwife! she then rang the buzzer herself for a 4th time! and by this point my daughter was slipping down!, in an act of panic the only thing i could scream was she was slipping out! with this my partner ran over and managed to catch her head so she didn't fall so hard on the floor! whilst all this happened still no midwife! eventually after what seemed like forever she arrived! (i had my partner and sister present) and they described her just standing there in a panic, before finally rushing to get gloves and come over!, not once did i have an apology!, after all this i was then left in my own mess for a good 2 hours! to finally come back and tell me they was ready to take me to the ward! (not once was i informed of anything!) i had lost what seemed like a lot of blood, the only way i can describe it was the room actually looked more like a murder scene!!, after looking through my notes she made up a few lies! she was accordingly present and baby fell whilst she was currently locating gloves!, the duration of my labour was made up, and time she was born was incorrect, she made out as if she was located in the room all the time! whilst in fact she was never there!!! the next day i was discharged, to then have to rush my baby back to hospital! she was very very poorly, to which we was told if we didn't bring her when we did the outcome would be different!!, they never done any checks that should of been required after the way she was delivered!, i can safely say i will never ever ever return to this hospital!!!!!!! disgusting the my baby and i was treated!!!"

We were totally shocked at how unwelcoming and unfriendly our experience was here. We didn't feel looked after, and at no point felt like the staff cared about me or our baby. It was all about getting the measurements and 'ticking the boxes' and getting us out of there. I felt like we were in a factory on a conveyer belt. When I told the member of staff she was hurting me and asked her to stop for a moment, and was it possible to be a little more gentle and go slower, she looked at me as if I was crazy and carried on. When I told the nurse I have a fear of needles and would rather not be able to see the needle when I was there to have my blood taken, she waved the needle in front of my face. It felt like the staff were under too much pressure and too stressed to be able to do a decent job. I kind of felt sorry for them. And also, left never wanting to step foot in that hospital again, as I felt I was treated like a piece of meat not a human being. The hospital also felt so run down and not clean. Non or the staff looked happy or healthy (which didn't fill me with hope either). And I was left in a cold room on my own on an uncomfy old hospital bed with my belly out for ages, not knowing where anyone had gone and when they would be back. Our 30 min appointment took 2 and a half hours. It felt pretty chaotic and disorganised. We have changed hospitals now and I'm so glad we did, as we are having a completely different and very wonderful experience.
BEWARE WARD 73. Although I had a traumatic birth in the delivery suite, the staff and care were exemplary. I felt so looked after. I was then transferred to ward 73. The difference was night and day. I was given very little information on anything, such as what support I could expect from the staff there, when food might arrive or facilities available such as mother and baby rooms (Only discovered these days later). After visiting hours -6pm, I felt completely alone and terrified. Having a catheter meant I was limited in my movement so I rang for help with my first dirty nappy. It took quite some time to get anyone and when someone came around they begrudgingly helped. No smiles, and their attitude was as if they shouldn’t be helping me - I later learnt that is EXACTLY what they should be doing amongst other things. Another time I rang for help with feeding, as I was having issues latching but got minimal help - not only were there huge delays on response times but I was made feel like a nuisance. This meant my baby was left under fed for 5 hours - which prompted a midwife to abruptly point out that I should be feeding every 3 hours. I cannot explain how stupid this made me feel. I was later transferred to ward 76 and the level of care was absolutely amazing - this is where I learnt that I can and should ring for help every single time I needed it. Ward 73 staff - sort yourselves out, you’re a disgrace
I had a large ovarian cyst removed by an open laparotomy in March of this year. All of the staff I came into contact with - from the doctors and nurses to the cleaning staff were wonderful. There are many horror stories around regarding hospital food but I think the catering staff on ward 78 deserve a pat on the back because all of the food I was served was appetising, tasty, piping hot and nicely served. Now for the only negative I would mention........It was impossible to get any rest on the ward due to noise levels. Patients are allowed to use mobile phones and at first I thought this was a great idea but if you have (as I did) a fellow patient who shows complete disregard for the feelings of others and spends a great deal of time on her phone with the speaker facility activated you will understand how distressing this was for me. At night there was little respite from the constant noise - doors and cupboards being constantly opened and closed, people talking and not lowering their voices and nowhere to go to get away from it. I got no sleep whatsoever and sleep is very important during your recovery period. Fortunately, I recovered well and, thankfully, did not have to spend a second night in hospital.
Ward 78 After being admitted from The BRI i was taken to a bed and left there, one doctor the following morning saying a scan will be done. A few hours later another doctor telling me my symptoms dont seem significant enough to need a scan and that it dosnt seem like my cysts have ruptured or iv suffered a torsion. I was basicaly disregarded and looked down on. Needless to say i was sent on my way still in agonising pain and no investigation. 24 hrs later the pain is horendous but because of this i would rather suffer than be made to feel the way that Doctor did. Who in all honesty has probably never suffered from hemeraging cysts in her life. This is the second time iv been in agony. Last time they were drained. Not to mention i was left for 30hrs with a ruptered eptopic preagnancy it wasnt untill the surgeon opened me up to see my stomache swimming in half a litre of blood. Nursing staff are lovely and the ward is lovely and quiet. Doctors are arrogant and dont seem to listen or sympathise.
We had a complication with our first birth, and the team put my partner under close monitoring straight away. Things progressed eventually to an emergency Caesarian (tier 2). We found the staff generally excellent - in their level of care and effort to explain things at each stage. The Caesarian itself was swift - and a lot of effort was put into reassuring my partner. It seemed perfectly professional and we are indebted to the whole team. Due to covid, my partner was put into the recovery ward without myself. As an emergency Caesarian patient, she was in a lot of pain and fatigue - and felt perhaps she needed more communication with staff / help with the baby than the rest of the ladies in the ward who had maybe a more smooth delivery. Overall a really positive experience in a difficult situation - so happy to have had our baby here and indebted to the team
Ward 78 appalling. Having transferred from BRI A&E to here 3 days ago I have been left to lie on my bed in complete agony. Despite having scans where I was told I had a cyst, fibroids and other nasties, I have been totally ignored while I am fobbed off with copious amounts of morphine, codeine and tramadol which don't work. I had a cannula wrongly inserted into a muscle rather than a vein and my arm swelled up the size of a balloon! No one seems to know what they're doing and there is a total lack of communication. This will be my 3rd night here and I am still waiting to be seen...absolutely appalling!! I also passed out on the floor at 5:00am on my way to nurses desk because pain so bad and the nurses didn't seem that concerned. I got the feeling they were smirking at me....Ward from hell
It's been 3 days since I had my tonsillectomy at St Michael's Hospital, as this was my first ever operation you can probably imagine I was very scared and incredibly nervous about it all. But I really needed not of been, all the staff were simply wonderful! They really looked after me and they were all so warm and comforting, from the kind gentleman at the front of the hospital showing you where to go, to the friendly and caring Nurses and Trainee Nurses. The Anaesthetist and Surgeon were both really patient and friendly with me and answered all my questions... I had quite a few! I really felt like I was in safe hands. The whole day ran incredibly smoothly and efficiently. I would like to say a special thanks to Nurse Debbie and Nurse Kate, for taking care of me. Thank you!! ❤️
I do not advise future mothers to have a child in this hospital,I made an appointment for a pool and anesthesia, then I came to the hospital and it turned out that there was no doctor who could give me anesthesia,on top of that, they said the pool was not available, and as I asked during pregnancy, nurses and doctors claimed that they had several pools and, as it turned out during childbirth, the nurses said that there was only one pool and that there was, only one doctor for the entire hospital which is occupied and I will not get anesthesia or give birth in a swimming pool, only one doctor for the entire hospital which is occupied and I will not get anesthesia or give birth in a swimming pool,I do not advise future mothers to experience what I do
Left with birth trauma ptsd night terrors amd physically traumatised, currently sueing Nhs for the negligence and the suffering theyve allowed me to endure. Not only did they leave me to go over due by 16 days but was quite happy to. Dismiss me and not prioritise me after my waters had broken during what should of been a routine induction but left me over 24 hours before moving me to a delivery room to ender go another 14 hours of labour before giving birth during that time poorly managed 3 attempts at organising emergency C-section but second guessing theirselfs First and last child i will ever have thanks to them. Massive improvements needed i fear for other mothers and their babies under this hospitals care.
This hospital and its staff are incredible. Having experienced a range of public and private healthcare in various countries, I’d like to think I have a fairly unbiased view of what St. Michael’s offers. The staff are skilled, empathic, attentive, and brilliant at what they do. The building is well-maintained, it doesn’t feel like a clinical maze and feels as homely as a hospital can get, records are well maintained, appointments are timely, there’s continuity of care, and they work as a unit. It’s a hard job, and I’m sure it’s an unforgiving one at times, but they do it with a smile on their face, are incredibly professional, and they do it to the best of their ability. Thank you x
Worst hospital to go to. My sister was completely ignored by midwife’s and doctors throughout her pregnancy which if she didn’t know better it could have ended badly for her and the baby. She had warned them about the very very low heart rate of the baby when she would get contractions and they kept telling her he was asleep, and even though she had proved he was awake they wrote down on her records that he was still asleep. When she went into labour the baby’s heart rate dropped so low she then got rushed in for emergency c section. If the doctors wouldn’t of ignored her she wouldn’t of have such a traumatic birth as she’s now getting complications due to it.
Gotta be the worst hospital around. I came here with my partner as my partner was induced. My son went quiet for days and the hospital did not seem bothered. It took me to really moan for them to do something. Every nurse we saw was a student and made it very hard to get anywhere. I just would not expect an easy ride coming here and would recommend to go elsewhere to have your baby. As a partner they do not make you feel welcome. I get that it is about the mother but fathers are also worried and are entitled to a welcoming experience. Next time we plan to have another baby we will not be coming back here.
♿ my daughter went into temporary foster care and a foster mum went to hospital and pick you up I'm still a bit puzzled why they did not keep me informed and Dad I worry about my daughter were taken they didn't even give me a phone call when my daughter's my daughter were taken the food wasn't over great the flood with dirty and they weren't disabled friendly enough I'm still not over and Chris with the service that my partner's had over my daughter I'm going back to the family court hey with my daughter I'm going back to the family court
My grandson was born here yesterday 20 /09/17 and Nanny and grandad visited. I hate hospitals and this was a revelation. I could park my car, their was nobody charging around just an air of serenity. The staff from reception to nurses and doctors were friendly and helpful even though they were all clearly working very hard and tired. Despite a long and tricky labour which ended in a caesarean my daughter and grandson had the most professional care and attention.I have nothing but praise for your wonderful hospital . Thankyou
The best health service place i have ever been. Everyone is so kind, sweet, friendly, and made me feel like i was not alone even though i went there alone. They give me not only physical support but also mental support. I love all of them. I am glad i have such kind of health service in UK even though it is so called free. People in UK are so lucky that they have good health care for free. In my country, only super expensive private hospitals offer those kind of super friendly and helpful service. I give 5 stars.
St Michaels MLU is outstanding, the ward was like our home from home and it really made us feel calm and relaxed during labour. The room itself was the Brunel Room which was large with a birthing pool, mood lighting, fairly lights, large bed and much more which was impressive and felt more like a posh hotel/spa than a hospital. We just had our first child and the care and service we received was absolutely fantastic during such a magical moment. Our midwife Natalie was superb from start to finish.
Well I have to say we'll done the ear nose and throat clinic the best service I have ever had from the national health service I cannot thank them enough for there exemplary conduct, this unit went above and beyond the call of duty with absolutely exceptional service I only wish the rest can learn from these absolutely fantastic people, I thank everyone who made my visit to your ward today a absolute pleasure please carry on the fantastic work you are shining example to the rest of the NHS
(2023 update - Be warned - £10 for your 20 week scan little photos is a joke, one star for that, rip off Britain.) Friendly staff help make this feel a better experience then most, expect the usual waiting times of course. Car parks are located on the first right after passing the hospital. Some limited outdoors spaces on your left, and a larger, cold-war style underground car park on your right. It's very tight, I wouldn't want to drive a large car down there. Approx £3.50 for 2hrs.
The people at St Michael’s hospital are the most caring lovely people you could meet We had our first baby there and they were 110% and made us feel so well looked after . We will never forget how kind they were and the effort they put in to look after us Even when they were put in an impossible position with everyone turning up at once they remained 100% professional and caring for everyone Well done to you all you make us all very lucky to have you Chris xxx
I had been told how wonderful the staff were at St. Michael’s and I was not disappointed. Karen who conducted my test, did it so expertly I hardly realised it was happening. Her friendly, cheery manner melted away my apprehension. Lauren, Karen’s assistant, was caring and attentive. Thank-you to Karen and Lauren and all the staff whom I encountered on the way up to the correct place for being true professionals with a very human face.
I wish I could turn back time and not have my birth in this hospital. Severe tear, horrible recovery and after four months still haven’t been checked if I have healed. Basically praying to God that everything is ok, because obviously I can’t count on the health system. At least, my son had no issues after the birth. Charlotte from Physio is lovely, she gave me a lot of useful advice and helped with a few issues.
Gave birth here twice. Two very different but complicated births. First time wasn't such a positive experience but the second time there seemed to be alot more support even though it was busier. I was a little disappointed about the lack of information about what happens next once I was on the ward. It all seemed very rushed.
Incredible midwives and doctors! Thoughtful, caring and without question, highly skilled and always go the extra mile. I honestly cant thank all the staff enough for bringing my daughter into the world. Amazing people & incredible care...even when dealing with a flapping emotional idiot like me!
Our son was brought here from Taunton to undergo body cooling in the intensive care unit. I cannot thank the staff enough for all there help for my son but also for my partner and I to be put in accommodation just down the corridor from the unit. Thank you for saving our boys life.
3 and a half years on I'm still traumatised by my experiences in this hospital having my son. Most of the staff were awful with a few exceptions, no care for me or my mental health. I couldn't walk past that building again let alone have another baby there! Avoid at all costs.
The midwives are really nice and are there helping everyone very clean very tidy and great theater staff well done you have help my baby twin thank you so much big thank you for cots for tots as well what lovely people many thanks from Mr Nathan Theyer and Mrs Cassie Theyer
Baby and I had a turbulent start. The staff was outstanding and doing their best for us. We stayed with you for a week and the care, patience and support we have received is priceless. Thank you so much for helping a new life into the world and giving us a great start :)
The dedicated staff are torn between striking or working on 13 October 2014 so I will drive from Wales to England and act as a striker in support of implementation of the 1% pay review recommendation. This will allow one worker to continue their vital duty.
Fantastic hospital gave birth to my baby boy and the midwife and doctors were Fantastic especially Sarah the midwife who delivered the baby and looked after me very well through my entire labour and my epidural baby is now doing very well
Just can't get through to the Gynae Ultrasound Department - been trying for 2 weeks now! Got the main number, and was given another number for the Gynae.. but still no luck. The numbers keep ringing and no one answers the phone!
Receptionist sent me to 3 different places as didn't know where any departments were which caused me to be late for my xray. The pregnant nurse doing my xray grumpy as hell and pretty rude. Not a great experience unfortunately
Maternity hospital. My son was born here so I obviously have a bit of a soft spot for it. Wonderful midwives, good facilities. It's only downside is that it is on the top of one of the largest and steepest hillls in Bristol.
All the midwifes who helped deliver my little girl on Christmas day was amazing as of being my first child the care they given me was outstanding they made me feel so comfortable and helped me though it all thank u so much
Staff here at St Michael's hospital are really helpful and friendly in the department of Bone Anchor Hearing aids, they really go out of their way to sort any problems you might have, with a smiling face well done
I have been various times at St. Michael's with appointments booked and the service has always been great. Everyone has been caring and attentive. My sincere gratitude to all of them for their amazing work!
Midwives, nurses, hospitality staff and doctors were all superb. The hospital was clean, quiet and restful. Not too big either. The whole birthing experience could not have been better. Thank you all.
We could not have asked for better or more efficient care from St Michael's early pregnancy unit. Staff were wonderful and we felt we were in very good hands - a big thank you to everyone on ward 78
A year after we left my stomach still turns when I think of this place. There are some great people who work there, but that isn’t enough to make up for its failings.
Life savers, love the staff, always very helpful, Forever indebted to St Michael's Audiology, I would be lost without this place, Keep up the amazing work you do Ang
Great Hospital with Great staff. Specially the maternity section. Both of my kids were born there. Wonderful experience. Last one while on lockdown back in January
Not a great experience as a visitor. Curt staff and my Son (the babys father) was made to feel like a spare part. As an ex nurse l was disappointed with the unit.
Absolutely brilliant hospital Had such a good experience here having may baby cant fault them. Such caring staff and such a safe environment. Highly recommend
My personal experience here was good and I received great treatment from staff here but I know other people whose experiences have not been good.
Ticks all of the boxes for me. Staff kind and considerant, understanding and helpful. Services available excellent. Plus they do nice coffee.
I want to say a massive thank you to the midwifes who help deliver my baby boy. Also the after care. You are all brilliant. Thank you xx
The nurses were so kind and looked after me well, they made me feel happy and they were very caring. Thankyou so much. great hospital
Our son was born here so I would naturally hold this place in high regard. All the staff are fantastic, very friendly and polite.
Wonderful care from the amazing midwifes at this hospital they go above and beyond and I'm forever grateful. Thank you all
Fantastic antenatal care provided by the fetal medicine unit for my identical twins. Always felt safe in very good hands.
A very well run business the doctors and nurses are very supportive and helpful, well done guys thanks for your hard work
The outreach nurses are condescending and frustrating to those with a newborn. They might as well be social workers.
Forever indebted to the staff at St Michael's who helped us welcome our baby. Extremely friendly and caring!
Safe and sound place. All staffs are so kind, helpful and responsible. We are so appreciated!!! Bravo NHS…
Worst hospital I have delt with no communication at all and would never recommend having a baby there
I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for a few people who work tirelessly here and the BRI thanks big time
Great service from the staff, very nice and very good at their job. And great thank you to Mr Bennet
