I think this school has improved GREATLY over the past two years. When we first came 2011-2012 school year, the teaching was archaic and outdated. The principal was rude and dismissive. When the old principal left, and along with him many archaic ideas, we decided to give the school a second chance and were very pleased. It is not perfect, but has improved and my kids have flourished. Yes, there are ALOT of Fundraisers, it's the same with any private institution. The school is part of the Good Sheperd Network and is required to sell for Hope for the Future in the Fall (Catholic Charities Raffle $250 per famly at $5 a ticket). It is also required to raise $250 per family in the Spring. To that end we have a Casino Night and Silent Auction. These tickets cost more (dinner and casino chips for you to gamble), but are part of an obligation. All of the proceeds, minus that $250 in ticket sales goes back to the school for scholarships. There are"mini fundraisers" as well. These help pay for field trips and last year for a teacher conference in Houston that lasted a whole week. These are VOLUNTARY and no one is required to participate. Each of the small fundraisers has an explanation as to what it is for (i.e. Spurs Days were for the Athletic Awards Banquets, McDonald's nights were 8th Grade Graduation). What I, as a parent, find the most frustrating, is the very parents who complain the most, participate THE LEAST. They want to know where there money is going, but they don't come to PTC meetings, don't assist with the school functions and then indicate that they have no clue what is going on. The information is easily obtained but it requires EFFORT, from the parents. Additionally, if you plan on having your child attend a private institution, be aware that they all have fees that you wouldn't see in a public institution. I pay the extra for the religious education and the small classroom size, among other things. Your child's education is what you, as a parent make it. Involvement is the key.

This is where I spent 1st grade to 7th grade - 1951 to 1958. It gave me my educational foundation, for that, I will be eternally indebted. The educational foundation that I received allowed me to graduate high school, college and to have an educational career lasting almost a half-century. I still have fond and vivid memories of MS Castillo, Sister Stanislaus, Sister Juliana and of course, Sister Bartholomew. With the Incarnate Word sisters, you had no choice, but to learn. I STILL can diagram a sentence even after 57 years ! All I can say is : Praise be the Incarnate Word !

Horrible school, run down campus, bullying, inexperienced educators, pathetic library, shameful lunches provided, no central air conditioning!! Do not let your child go here, you can expect the above and worse. The fact that you have to pay for the poor treatment is what is really appalling. The principal is a nice man but he is in over his head and subsequently doing a poor job with the campus, discipline, and lack of educators with experience. It felt like he would have promised us anything we asked for just to get our child enrolled.

I love this little school and appreciate how hard teachers work to educate the children with what little resources are available. Our daughter is in Pre-K Spanish Immersion and has the most wonderful teachers and experienced so much personal and academic growth, last year. I wish I could take some of the credit, as a parent, but the school and employees were responsible for her success. We are looking forward to the coming school year!
