I don't usually like to drag small local businesses, but hear me out. My friend ordered me a gluten-free cake for my birthday. It cost $175, had custom decorations etc. My friend has celiac disease, so gluten-free cake is a pretty critical request for her. When we picked up the cake we were told the gumballs, sprinkles (dipped pasta for whatever reason), and the giant cookie on top of the cake were not gluten free. My friend was upset and called to complain. Staff offered her a cupcake for her trouble. No money off since she couldn't eat the cake. Just a cupcake. We were going to let it go, until last week. My friend's boyfriend forgot about all this hassle and ordered gluten-free cupcakes for her birthday. After I explained the trouble we had earlier, he called to express that the order either needed to be cancelled or made completely gluten free. He couldn't cancel, of course. So when we went to pick up the cupcakes, the sprinkles and gumballs were again not gluten free, per the bakery. Again no money off or apology. I know this is not a dedicated gluten free facility, but when you order a gluten free pastry, it needs to be actually be made gluten free.

I had these guys do my wedding cake. It came out beautifully and it was incredibly delicious. We did a vegan lemon cake with white raspberry flavored icing. They put the flowers on it from my florist and put it on the tray I provided. It was done on time and I was very happy with the result. My only complaint is that I had a difficult time with getting someone to call me back to place and finalize the order. It took almost a month. That was over 5.5 years ago. I’m working with them again to order a cake and so far my ordering experience has been nothing like the last - not finalized yet but smooth sailing thus far. I also love their vegan cupcakes and other treats. They do run out of vegan options throughout the day so if you’re set on getting something for a birthday or whatnot, call and reserve something in advance. I usually call to see if they have any vegan options before I go regardless of the occasion (or lack thereof). I’ve had some fun dates there with my husband ordering a desert to share and a couple coffees. It’s a very quaint and romantic little shop. Not very big so there’s usually only like, to and one other couple or family there.

Thank you to the kind hearted staff that took such care of us yesterday. I ordered a cake online and made the mistake of ordering a week ahead. I turned up and there was no cake for my daughters 9th birthday (my heart sunk). It was my mistake (although I’d say it’s best to order over the phone as it’s easy to book for the wrong day with the subtle notices of date availability). At that point the staff could have turned us away or sold us a small basic cake in the window. Instead the cake decorator went above and beyond. There was one undecorated cake left, and she offered to do something nice for us and asked what our daughter was into. I said space theme, but a basic cake is totally cool. I turned up a while later and this incredible cake was something from out of this world. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to make this cake so wonderful, it’s been a horrible few years for the kids and I can tell you the kids went bananas when they sung happy birthday to this cake. Not only is the name adorable, everything about this bakery is. They have a super eclectic variety of cupcakes and desserts and they are all made from scratch. I know that's kind of a given but you can totally taste the quality when you enjoy her cupcakes! Service is super good and everyone has been super friendly when we've popped in and ordered stuff. We've always taken extra to go because you just don't even know how much you're going to crave it until you don't have it anymore. Not much compares to Sugar Mamas, trust me! They have a good selection of vegan options which I am very appreciative for! The quality of all the bakery items are so good that you can't even tell the difference so fear not vegan friends or anyone with a dairy allergy, you can still enjoy delicious desserts that aren't just fruit!

When my boys were little (they are all out of the house now), we used to come to Sugar Mama's quite often. We would usually get a treat while we were there, and a treat for later. It was always fun to see what they had that day, and the cupcakes were amazing. A little taste of Heaven. The cake was always moist, the buttercream always perfect. I ordered a couple of to-go items today because I was in Austin. The curbside server was very nice. Later, when I went to take a bite of my cupcake I found that the buttercream seemed a little stale, and the cake was not as moist. This was not the cupcake of my dreams. I also ordered a lemon bar, which had awesome flavor but seemed a little expensive. I hate to leave.negative reviews, I really do. But this is not the place that I remember...and I'm sad about that.

We were looking for a simple, small, and beautiful white wedding cake for our Austin wedding, and no place fit what we were looking for more than Sugar Mama’s in price, taste, and service. Ordering the cake and aligning on the look just took a few emails. We loved being able to do funfetti inside a simple cake with our flowers added on top. Over our wedding weekend, Sugar Mama’s realized they had given us the wrong cake. It was similar, but not ours. Immediately after noticing their mistake the morning of our wedding, they delivered the correct cake to our venue in Dripping Springs. They were so quick to resolve their mistake that it was like the mistake never even happened. We couldn’t have been happier with Sugar Mama’s as our wedding cake vendor! Beautiful and delicious cake!

I ordered a cake and some cookies for my nephew's 1st birthday party. The cake was perfectly decorated, moist, and delicious. I also had some custom cookies made. I was charged $5.50 each cookie and paid $35 extra for custom and paid a $29 tip, so I was kinda disappointed that the cookies weren't made more neat. The cookies looked rushed and the boots were orange. I am a very detail oriented person, so I am probably nit-picking. They did let me approve designs when picking up, but I didn't want to leave without any cookies at all since I made a big deal about them. I was told during the party that the cookies tasted like "baby cookies". I'm not entirely sure what that meant, but the cookies were for sure not the best. Stick with the cupcakes and cake because it is 100% yummy.

I recently visited this bakery and unfortunately had a disappointing experience with their cake. The sweetness was incredibly overwhelming, making it difficult to enjoy. All five people who tried the cake shared the same sentiment about its excessive sweetness. It's important for a bakery to consider the preferences of a variety of customers and strive for a balance in flavors. It is essential to consider the health implications of excessive sugar consumption. As we all know, sugar is not the healthiest ingredient, and its excessive intake can lead to various health issues(Type 2 diabetes, Heart disease, Liver issues, etc.).

One of my coworkers introduced me to this place when she bought a couple of cupcakes for everyone in the office. I've been hooked since then. My mom and I love sweets so when she came in to visit from Chicago, I bought her a couple of cupcakes and now every time she comes to visit, she HAS to have a couple of cupcakes. I love the wide variety of cupcakes they offer and trying their new flavors they make. I can't say that I have a favorite but all of their cupcakes are moist and have the right amount of frosting. I was surprised on how delicious their vegan cupcakes are also. I was so happy to see them on Cupcake Wars and even happier that they won! Well deserving and I can't wait to see them at their new location in East Austin.

I have supported this place for years. I used to go to the location on Manor all of the time and I used their services for my wedding cake. I have given them so many chances but the service is always so rude that today was my last time going. I walked in, unplanned, to grab some cupcakes for a friend’s birthday. I did not have a mask on me bc I was just going for a drive and did not have plans to go anywhere. After seeing the sign about masks on the door, I cracked open the door and asked if they had a mask so I could come in. The person working ripped me a new one. With extreme attitude, they gave me a mask and asked that I not come back without one. No worries, I just won’t come back at all ever again!

It's all been said many times. Yet no improvements. See my recommendation below this long review. The service was lacking. The front counter person is inattentive and a bit rude. I was very disappointed in my box when I got home as it was missing one of my two choices. Playing phone tag with this business is not worth the time or effort. The cupcakes were bad. Understand, they are visually appealing. The flavor was bland and uninspired. It tasted a bit like a Hostess product. My recommendation is to walk a couple blocks up to "Word Of Mouth" bakery! They are friendly and have a very good selection of great products.

Extremely disappointed in their customer service which was totally unresponsive, unaccommodating, and rude. I was told we were “too late” to order our first anniversary cake after sending an email a week earlier and not getting anyone to pick up the phone at the store - my failed attempts didn’t matter. When I shared my disappointment, I was reminded that the anniversary cake is complimentary. Nothing like reminding someone who spent a grand on a wedding cake that you aren’t paying for the the nice, small thing that was promised to you. Great idea, horrible execution.

We got our wedding cake from Sugar Mama's and were SO happy with it. We ended up over-ordering so now we have a lot of frozen cake, and each time we thaw another chunk out we get to relive the memories of that special day. Our flavor choice was chocolate cake with vanilla filling and salted caramel cream cheese icing, and despite me and my partner having slightly different taste preference in cakes, we both fell in love with this combo! The design was beautiful and exactly what we had asked for. 10/10 would use Sugar Mama's any time that we want a cake for any event!

Everything I've tried here has been amazing - great cupcakes and cookies and truly impressive special occasion cakes. It's not just for humans either - my dogs seem to like the treats here as much as I do! The staff here has been consistently friendly and kind. This is the type of local business we should all be supporting - great people with a great product! Do try and get here earlier in the day - especially on weekends - as they do get busy and often sell out of many items. Rest assured that whatever they are offering when you arrive will be fantastic though!

I was just in Austin last week for a trip, and my friend and I stopped in twice after stumbling upon this delightful bakery on our walk. Don't judge us but we tried multiple cupcakes, the churro cheesecake, and the chocolate bourbon pecan bar, and ALL were delicious. The ladies working there were just as delightful as the treats they're serving up. The only deterrent is parking is not super easy--it's a small parking area to the right of the building . But trust me when I say these baked goods are worth circling around the block if you missed it the first time!

Incredible! Stunning! Delicious!! We were blown away by our wedding cake. We wanted something that went with our nerd/fandom theme and Sugar Mama delivered. It was exactly the way we pictured when we ordered it! On top of looking amazing, it tasted absolutely delicious. Super fresh and full of flavor. All of their flavors we tried were so great it was hard to decide, but really with any flavor you can’t go wrong. The staff was so helpful in getting the design we wanted and the process was super easy. We can’t wait to order another cake from them in the future!

We had a large dessert spread at our wedding--an 8 inch round cake (red velvet with hot chocolate icing and raspberry filling) at the center for our wedding cake, surrounded by tiny pies, lemon bars, pecan bars, cupcakes, brownie bites, and macarons. We have a lot of dietary restrictions among our wedding guests, so we were easily able to provide vegan, gluten-free, and chocolate-free desserts so everyone could enjoy. Everything was delicious and beautiful! Working with everyone at Sugar Mama's was so fun and easy. They really made our special day sweet <3

I'm beyond impressed. Excellent craftsmanship, the service was light and charming, the air was positive and it smells HEAVENLY in there. I've tried a handful of different pastries and I can say w/ delight that they were all delicious. I'm happy I stopped by and got a chance to meet the owners. They are wonderful people and if you haven't stopped by, what are you waiting for?! Once inside you'll see just what I mean. The whole place looks awesome and they have a whole selection of bags, jewelry, cups, and more! You won't regret it!

The absolute best cupcakes in Austin Texas. They are always fresh and have new flavors every month. If I had to pick a favorite I could not choose just one. I can say this ... I work at a hotel and when I order for my associates the fastest one to go is the carrot cake and chocolate. But personally I love trying out the new flavors every month. I tell the guests and anyone coming to Austin or just driving through..."if you haven't had Sugar Mama's, you haven't had a real cupcake.". They always agree!

Best cake in Austin, hands down! We bought a 6” floral cake of butterscotch chip + s’mores. The cake was delicious - a 4 layer perfect blend of cream and butterscotch cake, with sugar glitters around the bottom. Loved Jenny’s creative art - I only gave her high level details of my design request, and she chose the colors to contrast wonderfully. Would certainly buy from here again. These are literally the BEST cupcakes I have ever had in my life. The After School Special is mind blowingly delicious and will make you never want the prepackaged Hostess cupcakes ever again. I have tired a few different gourmet cupcake shops since trying Sugar Mama's and absolutely nothing has come close to their deliciousness. There's just so much variety and you really can't do wrong with anything from there honestly, I've never had anything from Sugar Mama's that I didn't love.

Was expecting a lot more. Picked up a half dozen Halloween themed cupcakes anticipating great things for these very expensive cupcakes. The cake was dry and crumbly and the frosting part was not as spectacular as it looked. It was pretty though! The staff helping to place and box the cupcakes was as disinterested in me as a customer as she was in promoting the product. All of this is unfortunate because I love to support local businesses. I will not be returning.

Small shop with delicious treats! The James Brown cupcake was recommended since it was the customer favorite. Super tasty! Not too sweet or rich. I also got a macaroon that I thought was just okay. Keep in mind I got there 30 minutes before they closed. Which leads me to the 3rd treat I got, a cookie sandwich. Probably my favorite of the 3 desserts I bought. I just wish I had come earlier in the day because the cookies were a bit hard, otherwise amazing flavor!

Sugar Mama's did our wedding cakes for us and we had such a great experience with them! They had the right number of cakes and icing flavors to choose from so that I was not overwhelmed and did an amazing job with the deconstructed cake request that I had. I gave them minimal parameters for decorating the cake and created exactly what I had been hoping for! I highly recommend for anyone looking for a wedding cake or any other dessert for their event.

Tried this place for the first time a few days ago. I instantly regretted it rude costumer service. I didn’t even get greeted with a hello or anything. The cashier had an attitude and seemed as if she rather be anywhere else but there. Cupcakes were pretty but tasted mediocre. Carrot cupcake was not fully cooked and the chocolate cupcake broke apart . I’m all for supporting small businesses but some places don’t deserve it and this is one of them.

I tried Sugar Mama’s for the first time and bought one of the cakes in their case for a birthday. I was able to walk in and get it the same day. It was chocolate with vanilla buttercream icing and it was the best tasting cake my husband and I have ever had! I definitely be getting all of my future cakes from Sugar Mama’s. I knew it was going to be good when I saw Tupac on the side of the building. Wish I had a pic of the cake but it’s eaten up!

The sweets are always yummy and the presentation is awesome! BUT the service is HORRIBLE! I work for a very large law firm, and we have used them a few times, every single time I get the same treatment! just not accommodating at all! they rush you off the phone when you have a simple question. Today will be the last time I use this bakery for any of our events. I tried to keep it local but Ill find another shop with better customer service.

I am currently trying many bakeries to try and find one to make my wedding cake. This bakery had many delicious cupcake options that could be made into cakes. I was hesitant to try the vegan frosting, but it turned about to be just as good (if not better) than the regular frosting. We only selected four cupcakes on this visit, but each one was very tasty. This bakery is definitely a contender in my search for the perfect wedding cake.

This is the only bakery that my husband will eat cupcakes from. The original favorite of ours was iced sugar cookies. And we continue to expand our orders. I buy the dogs in my neighbor their pupcakes and got the perfect pecan bourbon bars for Thanksgiving For my husband’s 50th birthday this year, I ordered custom cookies and they individually wrapped them for distribution. It was the perfect socially distant sweet treat.

I came in here as I drive past this place all the time and what a great choice. I had the mini Sugar Mama's Bakeshop, it was amazing. Never had one before, mind you I do LOVE french pastries. It was just perfect, and there was something just delightful in the flavoring, I think it may be orange blossom but I'm not sure. Also, friendly staff and beautiful quaint decor. Will be going back, very authentic and awesome!

One of our favorite bakeries in town. The cupcakes are always moist and the buttercream is smooth. Their cookies are the perfect mix of crispy and gooey, and the lemon bars are excellent. They have several vegan and gluten-friendly options. The staff are always lovely and they are much cooler than me. If you consider the location, service and price a 2 star rating is awesome. The cupcakes are not great, okay on a good day. Maccaroons are hard and flavorless. Ordered a 16 cupcakes for the teachers I work with and paid $38 they were hard, and the cake itself has no flavor the only decent cupcake was the red velvet and even that one wasn't impressive. No plans to ever return, the great cupcake search continues!!!

Got a layered birthday cake here (6" red velvet) - quality ingredients, great service. The ratio of icing to cake was a bit too high - the layers of icing between the cake were as thick as the cake layers. It was delicious for sure, but just too much icing. Sugar Mama's made the most incredible tray of their wonderful treats for my mom's 94th birthday. And it tasted as good as it looks from the cake balls to the individual bars. We couldn't decide which bar was the best. My favorite was their chocolate sheet cake. It was special. However, the carmel bar, frosted coconut with Oreo crust and lemon bars were all close seconds. Mom just loved everything!

The BEST cake! Not only did Natalie and her design team take the train theme to the next level, but the cake tasted insanely delicious. The guests at our party kept asking where we got the cake and no one believed me when I told them it was gluten free. Natalie was great to work with and made the process really easy. They are now my go-to bakery for all celebrations! Highly recommend!

I LOVE Sugar Mama's! Their chocolate cream pie is the stuff dreams are made of and the pecan bar with solve any sweet cravings you might have. Their lemon bars also are the perfect combination of tart and sweet! My boyfriend and I also think all of their crusts for their treats are some of the best crusts out there. Paul Hollywood would be proud because there no "soggy bottoms"!

They’ve done it again! Sugar Mama’s created the perfect first birthday cake for my baby. I asked for a summer theme and was open to any kind of suggestions for what they thought would look best. And they took that and made the most wonderful cake. Not only did it taste great, but it looked amazing. I will definitely use them again in the future.

Anytime I have a special event or want to give someone a gift for helping me out, this is the place that comes up first in my head. Been going here for years and they have never disappointed me. My daughter bought me 2 gluten free macarons one of which was jalapeño. It blew my mind. I am writing this review because of the chocolate cupcake. That was gluten free and it was the best cupcake hands down that I have ever eaten. Super moist and flavorful. No other cupcake has ever come close to that deliciousness!

Sugar Mama’s is a bakery that has traveled with me through many chapters as an Austinite. I frequent regularly now that I am working at a local business near by and the consistency and authenticity of the sugar mama’s flavor is hard to top. Couldn’t think of a better place to indulge in, when in Austin.

I had high hopes but what i received is not quality unfortunately. The handwriting looks pretty awful and they didn't even add any explanation marks like what was requested. Yes yes yes sugar mamas was the best choice I made. I ordered the birthday cake cupcakes for my daughter's birthday which just so happened to be vegan. Absolutely delicious frosting was too much for me but the kids loved it I just took the whole block of frosting off and eat the cupcake by itself.

I travel a lot for work and have been to cupcake shops all over the country. This one takes the cake (pun intended because I'm a dad and have awesome jokes). Also, they have a FULLY STOCKED changing table for babies! Anyway, get there early b/c sometimes they run out of what you are looking for.

A friend of mine brought me some of the cupcakes made here. I'm not easily impressed with baked goods, so when I tell you these cupcakes were filled with flavor I hope you take me seriously. The raspberry compote was perfect and the frosting was on point. 10 out of 10 would recommend.

I was very disappointed in my cupcake. I ordered 2 carrot cupcakes. Cupcake was stale and icing taste old. It looked pretty but the taste was awful. I also purchased a caramel cheesecake. The cheesecake was fresh and delicious. I'm thinking I may have gotten an old batch of cupcakes.

I've sampled a wide variety of cupcakes here and they're all delicious. You can't really go wrong. A little on the pricey side, but great for special occasions. My favorites include the Black and Tan, Strawberry Love, and the Hemingway.

We ordered cupcakes over the phone to send to our son and Sugar Mama’s was the best. Daniel helped us select the cupcakes and made sure they were delivered on time. And apparently, they were delicious. Kudos to Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop.

The chocolate chip cookie was absolutely hands down one of the very best I've EVER had.....absolute perfection. Their pecan bar was delicious and so was the lemon cupcake. I wish I lived closer to be able to frequent regularly.

Always always delicious. We've ordered our wedding cake, anniversary cake, birthday cakes, macaroons, and pretty much everything else they sell. Sugar Mama's does not disappoint when you have a craving for rich deliciousness.

Loved our experience with sugar mamas. We got a beautiful cake. The only slip was a communication error on pick up time but other than that it was great <3 They also have candles and cards inside. Parking is limited.

I ordered delivery and to my surprise, nothing was squashed or damaged! Everything tasted great and all the cupcakes looked freshly made. Super moist! I loved that there was a variety pack option!

Staff was kind of rude and the cupcakes were nothing special, for the price I would not recommend just walking up for a treat. Probably better for custom creations and special events.
