Short menu, bland food. I kept flipping to see if there were more food items on it somewhere else, but nope. The food we got was under-seasoned and not really recognizable as the dishes we supposedly were being served. We ordered the machete with carnitas, the elote, and the picadillo de carne tacos. The machete was decent, if short on flavor. The carnitas were tender but not recognizable as carnitas: I just got a slow cooked meat, not really any of the tangy caramel notes that are characteristic of carnitas. The elote…well, I’m not sure how they can call that elote: it was corn on the cob rolled in cheese. No mayonnaise, no chili, no lime except the little lime wedges we squeezed onto it. The picadillo was especially disappointing for me: it tasted like the ground beef tacos you had at taco night at home somewhere in Wisconsin in the 90s. Got the sense the meat MIGHT have been seasoned, but mostly all you tasted was ground beef and lettuce. Pickled veggies lacked any tang to stand up on their own against the beef grease. I couldn’t finish more than one of my tacos; my partner finished the second and agreed. We are definitely not going back. Atmosphere: loud. Standard trendy restaurant with a lot of tables elbow to elbow and no soft surfaces to absorb noise. Service: functional! We got food, we got drink, we paid, we left, without any complications or negative or positive service experiences.

This place gets packed so come early to grab a seat. They have a back patio area as well as some tables in front of the restaurant as well. Five stars for overall service and food. My friend ordered the al pastor tacos and the guacamole and salsa. She enjoyed her tacos. Their guac is good - you can taste the lime and the jalapeño. And the salsa has a slight kick. I ordered the baja shrimp tacos and the elote. For some reason, my order slip got lost so I had to wait a little longer than usual. But the staff were kind and apologetic. I really enjoyed the shrimp tacos and it held up well despite the cold weather. But my favorite were the churritos. To make up for my lost order slip, they provided us with an order. So good. They come with a chocolate and vanilla sauce but I didn’t need them. They’re great on its own. My margarita was which I loved. I would go back to try the other drinks and some of the other items on their menu and definitely the churritos. Again, all the staff were friendly and helpful. Will be back!
.I'd love to share pictures of the delicious food but I always start woofing down everything as soon as it gets to the table. I would say the person up from on the day I went didn't seem to have the best attitude when it comes to helping customers. multiple people didn't understand how the ordering worked when dining inside or out and the girl didn't seem to care. she also didn't take advantage of the consumers not knowing what to order. give recommendations, stand up maybe will help. there really shouldn't be a chair at that little window. if you can lean you can clean. food always great, employees (specifically the younger cats) need to know how important it is to wash your hands after you clean your nose and touch your hair. because you do it in front of customers and that's kinda gross.

I was there with a few friends for a late lunch on a Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I liked the fried yucca, chips, and chicken mole tacos. The three tacos were delicious but beware they're tiny. The yucca is deeply fried, so it's crispy and soft in the middle. The alcoholic drinks are good too! The drinks have a nice blend of alcohol and flavor. Bianca provided us with excellent service. However, after Bianca clocked out at 5 pm, we got this other waitress who told us we needed to get out because others were waiting for the table. I think it is understandable for the waitress to tell us that if people were actually waiting, but there was no one waiting for a table, in fact, there were a few that were empty. So after paying a few hundred dollars for our meal, we thought it wasn't right for the waitress to tell us that. I have given it three stars because I expect better service for an overpriced Mexican food place.
It's so nice to see another great eatery open up in the outer sunset. I have to say this place made our night, myself and the wife had an impromptu date night and decided to check out the Sunset Cantina. We were very impressed. The staff were pleasurable and knowledgeable about their menu. Their food was absolutely amazing!! We had the messy yucca fries, the corn, and the churros. The yucca fries came with a Chipotle sauce that was just to die for! Altogether a great atmosphere with a long bar and ample seating, not to cramped and not too loud. The beer tasted great it was super cold and went down well. we had a couple of modelos followed by a couple more which made the great food even more appetizing. Their toilets were spotless (a great sign if I do say so myself).. we are so looking forward to our next date night!! Great job Sunset Cantina we will definitely be back.
I have been to this restaurant for my birthday, for brunch, for first dates and for plenty of after work lunches. I love this place for their delicious food, their chill atmosphere and I have always been a fan of their large tequila and mezcal selection. I highly recommend coming here and trying out their menu, but most of all definitely make this your next brunch spot! My partner and I tried the chilaquiles and huevos rancheros. The price was on point and the food had perfect portions. We were big fans and this is absolutely a favorite spot in the city.

What a great spot in the Outer Sunset. First off, the bar is very nicely decorated. I love all of the hanging plants and colors. It's a perfect place to come in and watch the game. I heard they also put in a backyard patio which I haven't been to. However, there are a few tables in a parklet in front of the restaurant. The food and drinks are delicious - albeit a little pricey for street tacos. I ordered the sopa of the day, and it was so flavorful and hearty. Perfect for a foggy Sunset night! I split a pitcher of margarita with friends which hit the spot. And we ended the night with churros. A really nice place to come and hang out with friends.

Our first venture out in our beautiful city since the beginning of the pandemic shutdown, and I must say, this wonderful neighborhood restaurant was exactly what we needed. Everyone was accommodating and so friendly, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. There was outdoor seating in front of the restaurant in a parklet, and also a nice back patio in the back of the restaurant that had good properly social distanced tables and a large flat screen TV as well. Hand sanitizer stations were readily available. The menu had just the right amount of choices, and for our visit we ordered a variety of things that were all very tasty. Our party also ordered fantastic adult beverages. We will definitely be back soon and plan to eat our way through the whole menu.
I don’t know who TF they think they are making drinks and food that good. It’s a shame I ever went because now I have to keep coming back, because I’m quite frankly addicted. The Mangonita is the boozy mangonada of your dreams. The Torta is one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The atmosphere of the backyard outdoor space (available on weekends) is the perfect way to enjoy a warm* day in SF (*warm is a relative statement in The Sunset). Don’t go... unless you are financially prepared to keep coming back :) and back again... and back again with your family. And back with your friends... and back again. 10 out of 5 stars.

If you're a fan of Mexican food, you won't be disappointed by this restaurant. The food is fresh, flavorful, and authentic, and the menu offers a wide range of options to satisfy any craving. The staff is friendly and welcoming, and the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend trying the chile rellenos - they're out of this world!

This is a surprisingly good eatery right down the street from my job site. The bar is stocked well and the beer is good. The foodz are pretty good with lots of options. The chips and salsa do not come automatically as what we have expected from eating in a local "cantina". We ordered once we realized this so it's no big deal. The owner ended up not charging us for the additional order so I put in extra tips for the staffs. It's all good! Seatings can be inside, out in the rear patio, or in front right off Judah where you can enjoy the sunset .... on a clear evening. Overall, it's a good joint to hangout after a day work!
The food was good. I am not sure if it is worth the price you pay for it. I had the Machete quesadilla w/Birria. Was good, but dry. I needed salsa to add moisture. I feel like it is gourmet style Americanized Mexican. I need to get out and check out other restaurants costs. It cost $30 for 2 margaritas in a regular glass filled with ice. If you are looking for authentic taste, this is not it, but, if you want something different, this may be your thing. Not a large selection on the menu, so easy to make a pick. Friendly staff.

Saw this place on Instagram and was excited to try it. I got the Quesobirria Tacos which were ok, the meat was lacking in flavor. My friend ordered the El Bombero w/fries, fries with beef. They sprinkled the TINIEST portion of beef on those. We don't usually complain but thought that there had to have been some mistake. However, they said that the meat is measured and he'd have to pay extra for more. The vibes there were kinda weird there anyway so we left shortly after.

Went here for dinner last night. Absolutely AMAZING food! Friend had chicken tortilla soup (it is a HUGE bowl by the way) and raved about it. I had the chicken tostadas. They come with two street taco size tortillas piled high with chicken, lettuce, sliced avocado and salsa. Super crunchy and again, great! Guac was excellent. We almost didn't order dessert, but decided to order the churros. They were "out of this world" delicious. Super crispy on the outside but the centers were moist and sweet! Don't miss this little place! Outdoor dining in the rear too!!
First of all, I almost never leave reviews! This place was amazing! I got the yucca fries, which were fried to a golden brown, perfect crunch-to-soft-inside ratio! (I just made that up LOL) and it came with spicy ketchup...YUM! I also got the veggie tacos which were delicious...sweet potatoes and pickles onions were everything. And they were beautifully colorful! I also go a Mezcal Margarita which was good (I’m a lightweight so please see avid drinkers for their opinions too lol. Chill, mellow vibe inside. And Black-owned too! 10/10 would recommend!
This place has no business being as good as it is. It’s obviously fusion food, but it’s GOOD fusion food. They make my favorite michelada in the city (when the bartender takes the times to make it correctly), my girlfriend loves the daiquiri slushy, and our go to’s for food are the Al pastor tacos, carne asada messy fries, and costillas.

I really like this place! I've been twice now and both times just really solid and reliable. There's both indoor and outdoor parklet seating as well as an outdoor counter to order from. The decor is charming, warm, colorful, easy going. Service is always quick and friendly. The food here is solid. Bright, fresh flavors, good quality. I'm not a huge drinker and the alcohol is strong, but I let my ice melt a bit and enjoy the cocktails.

Often come over from Oakland especially to meet friends and go to Sunset Cantina. I love they have out door seating at the front in the parklet and now at the back in the cozy courtyard, patio. Salads are fab and I love there Chicken Tostadas amazing layers of black bean puree, roasted chicken, avocado, cheese and cabbage slaw - yummmmm! They also have the best churros in town. It's worth the wait if its a busy at the weekend:)

This place is fun, but they add sneaky hidden charges to your bill and hope you won't notice. They charged me a 6% fee to cover employee benefits on top of the tip I paid. Last I checked, it's on the owner to take care of employee benefits, not me. They already charge their customers enough for food and basic service as it is. Make sure you get an itemized receipt and check all the charges before deciding how much to tip. Don't get ripped off.

Great service, awesome food & cocktails. We got the carnitas flautas & chicken tostadas, chips & salsa, drinks & of course dessert. The art on the walls for all the different regions makes for a good ambiance & they have a massive TV for sports fans. Love the house-made habanero salsa & churritos with chocolate & vanilla sauce - getting good grades from an authentic Mexican is legit!! Come early, grab a good spot. Definitely recommend for a nice, flavorful dinner or hanging out with friends!!
This is the place to go for happy hour. Loved the carnitas taquitos… and the elote… and the chips with the seasoning. My partner wants to try so much more on the menu. We don’t drink either and they had some good aqua fresca options and my guy made me a virgin pina colada as well.

I stopped off for lunch here with some friends over the weekend and had a good time. Their michelada is one of the best in the area (complete with a chicharon garnish!) and their quesabirria tacos, while a bit too greasy, were flavorful and would no doubt be a cure for all but the worst hangovers. I wouldn't consider this to be a destination, but if you find yourself in the Avenues and have a hankering for some tacos it's worth checking out for sure.
Cute little spot in Sunset that offers indoor and outdoor dining. My friend and I tried their quesabirria tacos and carnitas flautas, which were both incredible! Super fresh flavors and tender meats. For drinks we tried the michelada, the Love bird, and their margs - which did not disappointment. Definitely would recommend and will be returning to try the rest of the menu!

The service was amazing on Saturday, 2/20 - sorry I didn't get the server's name. The back patio is lovely, and the jello shots are a nice touch. But, please, add whatever cheese (other than cotija) to your description of the Machete on the menu. I asked for no cotija specifically because the menu listed it as an ingredient, but there was no mention of any other cheeses, and I wasn't expecting nor wanting cheese. Otherwise, love this place!
Food was unbelievable! Got the birria tacos, veggie tacos, chips, salsa and refried beans. It's in a nice quiet neighborhood in SF with some outdoor dining. It is however all counter service. You order your own food

Ordered the tostadas and did not expect them to be so tiny. Looks great and taste was ok but definitely not worth $10. Was still hungry. There wasn’t even a lime! Not a great intro to this place. Visited Sunset Cantina with a few friends, didn’t have any reservations but were seated right away. They have a really nice patio in the back! Staff was really friendly, service was fast. Ordered the veggie Messy Fries and the veggie tacos (3 for $10), both were really delicious and filling! Atmosphere was really comfortable. Price $-$$. Highly recommend checking this place out!
The food is all generally decent, but I was really let down by the “chicken mole” tacos. It tasted like they boiled their chicken in water, and then drizzled some light red-brown sauce on top, rather than a traditional chicken mole. My boyfriend got the carnitas tacos and they tasted fine, not particularly outstanding. I did like the churros though, they were hot and crunchy.
This place has great cocktails and the salad is quite delicious (as are the churros). It's a nice place to hangout and have a drink. Brunch is also pretty nice, but don't expect too much of the "mexican" food. There really isn't 'mole' in those chicken mole tacos, it's clearly an interpretation, which is all fine and good, but it's not mole... Service is great and friendly.
Ordered online while visiting in SF for the night with my family and picked up 15 minutes later as promised. Food was good. My mom had the shrimp and yucca fries and was 100% satisfied huge shrimp and fresh. I had the carnitas flautas and they were good and also fresh. My husband had the costillas which he didn't care for but other than that we enjoyed our dinner.
I'd go back but it's not on my priority list. Food was ok, drinks were decent but things were a bit expensive. The brass tacks shook out to approximately $85 a person and it was 1 Street taco plate 1 bacon wrapped hot dog 1 Messy fries Chips and guac 3 6oz margs 1 house marg 1 desert drink $170 with tip +/-

The food was a 6/10 not too bad but not memorable. But the service was terrible. Waitresses only attended to white diners and didn’t pay attention to my party or other people of color in the establishment. They barely gave us water and we’re extremely rude after we asked. Not a place I would revisit or recommend.
Great spot with friendly staff. Great tasting tacos and margaritas! Good atmosphere with lots of seating and different options. High chairs for kids helpful too. Short menu but food was very tasty, especially the chicken tacos and shrimp tacos. Chips and dips were very good too with varying levels of heat.
Fabulous, Authentic Mexican, great service, killer vibe. I'm talking no burritos, attentive staff and a cozy place you can get lost in. Al pastor is the pineapple sweet variety, instead of the BBQ version but everything is delicious. The Ceasar (fresh anchovies omg so tasty) and the churros are too.

I almost don't want to give this great review, so that I can keep this gem of a place all to myself.... Great food, great drinks, great service. Sitting outside drinking margs and eating awesome al pastor tacos - a pretty awesome way to start the weekend.
Fun neighborhood restaurant. Everything was delicious from the chips and guacamole to the dessert, and plenty of vegetarian options. Great service and a very friendly staff. Awesome background music too. My friends and I will definitely be back. Thanks!
I never go out and order a salad, but I ordered the salad at the cantina last night and LOVED it. The chicken was warm, the ranch had a nice flavor (thicker than usual), a variety of veggies coming together for a huge portion! Definitely worth getting.

Try this place. Fantastic food and interesting selections. Lots of space in and outside. Our waiter was very friendly, competent. Only down side was inside was noisy, sound bouncing of the walls type of noise - buts that's lot of places.
Used to be good service, but not today. Service on the patio side is worst! We need to ask everything! Sugar, milk, and spoon every single time. I love the food, one of the best. I brought my friend, and he was upset about the service.

Love love love this place. Just discovered it recently. Taquitos r to die for . margaritas are so good and jello shots will knock ur boots off , so be carefull. And nice guy that always takes my orders is adorable and really nice.
Grabbed some quick lunch and loved their veggies torta and shrimp tacos. The torta is served with thick cut fries & spicy ketchup, too yumm! Although the tacos could've been better in terms of more coleslaw or salad on top of meat.
Was looking forward to trying this new place out. While the drinks were fine, the food was so-so. Make sure you ask for a printed receipt with their handheld payment system - we got double charged. Owner was nice about the snafu.
The best Mexican food spot in the area, hands down! The carne asada tacos were amazing and the churros were the best I’ve ever had! The bathrooms are lotteria themed which is such a nice touch. The mezcal selection is great too!
Everything tastes great and their drink menu is top-notch. We come here at least once a month and always leave very full and a little tipsy. Staff is friendly and fun. Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in the Sunset.

Super cute spot. No parking, you have to drive around to find something. Their take on police was something I had never seen before but it was tasty. The staff was amazing. Super attentive and down to earth.
Great place for tacos and drinks. They have mini churros that is a must order for dessert. Wait time is pretty short even in a busy day. Street parking can be hard ,but not impossible with a little walking.
Just amazing food all around. I love their tacos, Yuka fries and veggie torta. Definitely recommend to anyone whether they are visiting the area or locals! Also a great place to watch the warriors game at!
Horchata felt fresh but less quantity for the price, nice ambience. Food Delivery was quick. Got veggie tacos and Machete kind of quesadilla had similar sauce and was tasty.

And unusual and quite delicious take on local Mexican food. I believe it's black owned, but I'm not sure. Portions are small, so if you're looking for a lot of food this probably isn't the right place.
Small portion, a little overpriced, not too much flavor in the food

Good food and a great environment. We sat in the patio and that was great for kids. Parking is rough, but otherwise it’s a great spot.

Such a great place!! With legit food and drinks. The staff and people are so friendly and sweet. Love it here, so happy we found this little gem. Very authentic! Live sports on projector.
Delicious tacos at an affordable price. The yucca fries were a 10/10. Definitely one of the best tacos I’ve had in SF. New to the area, and this was a very warm welcome. …
The quesabirria tacos were fantastic! The house margarita packed a punch. The staff was super friendly and the owner was enthusiastic and very welcoming. I will definitely be back.
Amazing Micheladas! Stopped here after hiking Golden Gate Park for a bite and was not disappointed. Would definitely come back for brunch for some chilaquiles and cocktails. More
The food and drink are decent but the staff refuse to answer the phone and would rather keep one game on all the main TVs than switch one and have a local’s business. Smh
Love the drink: Michelada, spicy. Taco is good, Ribs is also good. Burger could be better.

Al Pastor tacos were amazing. Super flavorful. Also dig the salsa. Good seating out front, inside and out back. Lunch with kids, so we didn't test the bar. Next time.
Spot is great and it’s good place to have food outside if you’re in the region. Food was too greasy though. Fish not crispy at all. Beer options were ok, cold beer.
Fantastic place with delicious food and brilliant staff. Will definitely be back. Thank you Sunset Cantina for a really lovely experience over the Holidays!!!
Finally got to Birria tacos in the bay area! I have been craving these ever since I tried them in San Diego over Christmas and these didn't disappoint …
Excellent and authentic Mexican cuisine. Reminded me of México city. Food was very delicious. Indoor seating area was simple but cozy. Highly recommend. More

Great local hangout with fresh margaritas and solid grub. Super cute back patio with TV, so you can watch games while socially distancing. A-plus.
I really like this place! I've been twice now and both times just really solid and reliable.

Great food, great staff ,great atmosphere..but the food...and did I mention the food...TO DIE FOR...like no other eatery in sunset district .. More
Yummy food, nice vibe, a bit on the pricey side. The food was surprisingly on the less oily side, chips were fresh and al pastor was delish.
Food was great, service was great, but don't get the guava slush! Way too strong and I couldn't enjoy it. Perfect atmosphere on a sunny day.
