Tucked away on the first floor and at the back of a stand alone medium sized apartment complex, it's a small casual and clean restaurant . The seating outside on the covered verandah or balcony is best.Though the highway and overpass are close by and traffic noise a tad intrusive, the foliage and screens do a good job of keeping most of it away. It has a chef from Kerala and specialises in traditional Kerala dishes with a pretty impressive range from Kerala parotta and fried and ground chicken and fish molee to Puttu and Kadala(Rice flour steamed with interspersed layers of ground coconut and chickpeas in gravy on the side ). Like most casual Indian restaurants here it tries to be everything to everybody with North Indian, South Indian and Indian Chinese thrown in. Will explore the other items on the menu and update but for now , as we had come for lunch, tried just a few classic Kerala items..namely Kerala parotta, idiyappam , mutton pepper fry and vegetable stew (made with coconut milk, it is quite distinctly different from its North Indian cousin). The food we had, sadly didn't quite live upto expectations though. The ingredients were fresh, the portions were adequate and nothing was overdone but it just lacked the definition and the taste that stamps it as Kerala cuisine. The vegetable stew had plenty of vegetables and was creamy but it in particular had a real identity crisis and was cruelly bland. The authentic Kerala vegetable stew is subtle and doesn't overpower you. It therefore requires an expert hand to hero its ingredients and bring it to the forefront. The parotta seemed underdone and lacked the feel of a Kerala Parotta as was the case with the Idiyappam. Adequate but not quite it. The mutton pepper fry was the best of the dishes. The pepper though giving the dish heat did not give it that unique bite of flavour that makes this and beef fry such favourites in Kerala. The fresh juices were good and the service attentive and courteous. The prices are reasonable for Nairobi standards. Will definitely explore the other items soon and see how they measure up .
Looking for a taste of India? Look no further than Swaad. They serves up delicious dishes, especially South Indian delights. Dosa dreams: We dove into the masala dosa, a crispy crepe stuffed with savory potatoes. Each bite was delicious! While the sambar wasn't our favorite, the dosa itself was a winner. More than just dosa: Don't miss their methi vada and crispy vegetable samosas. Both were bursting with flavor and fried to perfection. Spacious and comfy: The restaurant itself is a relaxing haven with plenty of space to spread out. Whether you're solo or with friends, it's a welcoming atmosphere. Bonus perks: Free parking! ️ No need to stress about finding a spot. Plus, the friendly service adds a warm touch to your visit

We had the Mysore Cheese Masala dosa which was very good. The kotthu parotta and idiyappam fell below our expectations. The parotta was a bit bland. They claim to have 99 varieties of dosas. Will surely come again for trying out the other variety of dosas they serve. Service by Susan was quick and friendly.

Swaad is a very good restaurant located on the first floor with fine lift facility. It serves various mouth watering dishes- South Indian Mughlai and Chinese. Very nice atmosphere with good and secured parking facilities.Very well managed with good service and indeed a pocket friendly boutique restaurant. My wife and I enjoyed the Sunday Lunch. You will love the various delicacies. We will go there again in near future. SUBHASH MODI FORMER INTERNATIONAL CRICKET UMPIRE
The restaurant is difficult to find. It is inside a residential complex and not easy to spot from the road. Once you get there, the staff and service is very good. The ambience is quite nice, especially the deck. I ordered the dosa and vada. The vada was nice and crispy, but the dosa masala was average. The coconut chutni was good, but the sambar was very watery and had almost no salt. Price is very reasonable.
Very good Indian restaurant. Nice ambience. They Serve both North Indian and South Indian Food. They had Drinks on demand.Getting in to the restaurant is little tricky. The gate to the restaurant building is closed when we visited. You have to parochial to the gate . Then only they open. As we are new in that area we have drive around to finally get in to the Gate. I hope they put some sign at the gate .
Highly recommended restaurant for authentic South Indian food. They have a wide spread of dosas. Also, the non.veg options are very good. One of the rare place in Nairobi where you can get the taste of authentic South Indian non.veg food.

I never review restaraunts - Swaad is the most delicious Masala Dosa I’ve ever had, and I lived in India for 6 months and live in an area of California with many Indian immigrants. This place is Incredible. All of the spices are correct, all of the side sauces are correct. Thank you! It’s on the first floor of the hotel, you can see the sign from the street
Indeed a must go restaurant in Nairobi for South Indian food. South Indian food is not Idly, Dosa. In fact south Indian food also include Puttu kadala, Idiyappam, Appam, Medu Vada and many more items . To my surprise they have almost everything and preparation is authentic. Ambiance and decor is simple. Pricing is pocket friendly.
Food is generally good. Kerala parotas were really good. Gravies are also decent and the overall pricing is OK. Reduced two stars because didn't like their masala dosa at all. For a restaurant specialising in South Indian burnt, non-crispy dosas are a big no. Especially if the menu item is called crispy masala dosa.
The restaurant is extremely far from where I live. Loved the idlis and dosa, coconut chutney was so yummy. However the portioning was a shame. You pay 280 shillings for literally 5 tablespoons of dessert. My brother tried the jeera rice with butter chicken and he loved it. They serve local beer only.
Nice place , food and service is very .

I went here expecting a very average South Indian meal. However, I was pleasently surprised by the authenticity of the taste and the preparation. The spices were just perfect and service was superb. Full marks and highly recommended for South Indian food lovers!
Swaad was definitely one of the most interestimg restraunts I have been to. Me and my family aproached the restraunt as it offers both south indian food with non-vegetarian options and the indo-chinese cuisine which is a deadly combination and has turned rare.
Omg!!! If you have not tasted Kerala Fish Curries, believe me you have missed one of the best foods ever on this planet earth. Must visit place on your visit to Nairobi... Deserves many more stars!!

Worst food. Very bad taste. Vada was made from expired dough. Even dosa were bad. Very expensive and worrhless No salt, no spicy and no sour. I think their targetted customers are European only.

They make the best biryani and food. Its my favourite restaurant for indian dishes. Their meat is so soft and well done, it falls off the bone ,the staff is friendly and the place is lovely for a sunday afternoon meal. …
Chilli paneer was nice. Veg kohlapuri was not at all as it was suppose to be, on my 2nd visit Naan was not there and I was told it only in the evening. Outdoor sitting was good and food was above average.... …
Food is good. Though the service was OK. They didn't have some stuff on the menu. They didn't serve certain chutneys that are a must as per the dishes they should be served with. Not popular so get good privacy.
The food was delicious, and the service was slow .

Really an authentic indian restaurant, your tast buds will ask for more. Each dish is yummy. Visit once and you will never stop visiting again and again. Mark my words.
One of the worst restaurant experiences, The guy doesn't know how to communicate with customer who are trying to place an order for delivery, not one several times
Food is really good, The place is pretty hidden inside the compound making it difficult to spot from road. The service was OK. But a very cozy place to hang out.
Service is ultra slow...even after waiting for 30 mins they informed there is some issue with their preparations...had to leave without food!!

Guys, if you are closed on Mondays, why don't you put that info on Google. We came all the way from Langata before our outbound flight and its closed.
Not the nicest place to look at, but the food was amazing! Hats off to the chef! He is South Indian, but sure cooked like he was from the North.
Very reasonable and tasty food. To locate is a slight issue, but if u find out... Be ready to have a wonderful fooding experience in Nairobi.

Very attentive service and great food. I would highly recommend the mutton pepper fry with the Kerala parota.
Nice South Indian food in Nairobi.. Quantity and Quality both are very good.. Very good service indeed
Yum but make sure to call a day early to ensure the availability of the item you gonna order next day.
I walked for almost 35 mins to this restaurant and then came to know that it doesn't work on Mondays!
Must try dishes are Payyoli Fried Chicken (PFC) and Crab Pepper Masala. Absolutely mouth watering!!!
Not upto the expectation of those who come from India.Just an ordinary one with a cut throat bill
The masala dosa and fish curry were excellent. The egg curry was okay. Great friendly service!
Pretty mediocre food - much better options in the area. 180 for a soda is absurdly high btw.
Great service food is tasty and appealing . Portions are great ! Cool environment as well.
Good taste of food... Indian foods available but expensive. Although very cool place...
