More issues with Swadlings. From our initial dealings with Swadlings we were very happy, they seemed knowledgeable, helpful and friendly,infact we instructed our tradesman to get all materials from them. This review relates to our spotted gum deck. Within two months of having the deck laid, treated and oiled we had mould and cupping issues. It was complicated by our tradesmen laying the deck with not allowing enough gapping and ventilation under the deck. It was also, to a lesser degree, influenced by some incorrect advice from Swadlings with regards to oiling the underside as well. Mark Swadling responded to our first call promptly and helpfully. He came on site and pointed out the issues, one prominent issue was a very small number of planks showing a black mould to which Mark said that he'd never seen that before and would replace those ones. The situation was complicated by other problems that we had, nevertheless it took 6 weeks before Mark agreed to sand the deck, replace the black mould planks and a single plank which was wider than the others. We followed his instructions, numbering the planks and marking the black mould ones with an X for replacement. All good and negotiated in a friendly manner. The deck was returned to us, sanded but the black mould planks were not replaced. The deck was relaid, cleaned, mould cleaned, cleaned again and oiled. After just a few weeks it appears the black mould is coming through again, just in the odd planks here and there on the deck. This issue, and the other previously reviewed issue around selling Marine Ply that didn't meet the Australian standards and has failed, has left us more than just disappointed. Had our name appeared on the invoices we would have taken legal action against Swadlings.

We are very disappointed with the lack of responsibility and disregard of doing the right thing. We purchased marine ply advertised as to Australian standards (AS/NZS 2272) but following our discussions now removed from their website (screen shot below). The ply failed within 3 months. We commissioned an onsite report from ewpaa who found the ply didn't meet Australian standards on three findings, importantly the glue bond integrity failed allowing delamination and the presence of core gaps. The delamination with the Australian standard does not occur within 50 years. We were refused details on the brand and country of origin of the ply. We paid $187.20 per sheet 2400x1200x18mm , when we could've purchased it 30% cheaper elsewhere. Now we are faced with having to replace the Swadling's ply. Our tradesman made some errors in the installation of the ply, nothing to do with the low quality of the ply, and he has agreed to re do the work at no cost. We have asked Swadling's to credit us but Mark Swadling refuses to do this.

Have to say the customer service provided by the staff at Swadlings, each time I go shopping, is that noticeable, that I must let you guys know what a great job you are doing. Just for example, this afternoon I needed a specific width and thickness in a length of timber required, all was good except I needed the thickness of the piece 2mm less that what was available to me. This was not a problem for Paulie who selected the timber needed and then dressed a couple of mms of the thickness to suit my requirements, as well as then cutting into the individual lengths I needed. While I was waiting for Paulie to return, I has two other staff members pass by and check if I was being looked after. Anyway, I just though all the staff at Swadlings need to be aware that the service it offers to its customers, is not only noticed but also much appreciated. Thanks guys! see you next time. We recently discovered your timber yard whilst looking for architectural timber for a two bespoke fire places. The selection was vast but without the help of Pauly we would not only have been lost in the selection, but also would not have been able to be as selective as we need to be for our high end clients. Pauly walked myself and my client around the timber yard ensuring us that he would have what we needed for the job and piece by piece he laid them out for our approval explaining the qualities of the timber and where it may have once been used - these stories made our client so happy and added to the whole experience!!!! Upon a second visit to the timber yard we were greeted and given the same high end service. We deal with suppliers everyday, some we have known for years and its very rare that someone offers this level of service every time - What a credit this man is to your business.

I was looking for some treated pine to make some outdoor steps, I went to another timber yard in the Marrickville area and after standing around being treated like the invisible man for 35 minutes I thought stuff this and left. I thought about Bunnings but buying timber there is another nightmare, then I remembered Swadlings had a new yard and thought I would give them a try. I got out of my car and this big young bloke came bounding towards me with a G'day, what can I do for you? He looked at my list, figured out what lenghts he'd need to get what I wanted, cut it to size, loaded it on a forklift and drove it right to my car and help me load it. in and out, got exactly what I needed, fair price and all done in under 30 minutes. Been back twice since and had the same experience every time. A good mob to deal with.

Came into Swadlings looking for ideas for the deck I was planning on building. Had Paul in the yard help me out with ideas for timber type and setting up the deck. Came back a few weeks later and Paul helped me again with the final touches and arranged for delivery. The boys had it delivered the next day which was Xmas eve. Two guys came and helped unload it, the two delivery gents were super friendly and happy to help me get the timber to where I wanted it. I was overly impressed with the whole interaction with Swadlings. The only let down was the guys sitting behind the computers were no where near as personable and friendly as the yard guys and delivery guys. I’ll return for those two tho. Wish they yard guys could come and process the sale!

Easiest 5 stars ever! Can't recommend this place enough, way cheaper and better quality than bunnings and had a great range for every need - customer service is beyond great, every query we had was answered with absolute certainty. Paul in particular was a legend and helped us to the nth degree across several stages of our project, he really went the extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed; cutting wood to size, assisting in product selection etc and was extremely precise in all of his methods even hand cutting to ensure certainty we're really grateful to have had his help throughout!! Will be for sure referring every man and his dog to come here for all their future timber needs !

For 35 years I have been a customer at Swadlings. I have been most impressed with the high quality and extensive range of their timbers and other building products. In addition I have always received valuable advice from the knowledgeable staff, many of whom have been employees for over 10 years and some far longer. I visited Swadlings to buy timber for a DIY project. I was really pleasantly surprised the place. The customer service is top notch - Paulie walked me through what I might need and gave me heaps of options. I never get this sort of advice from Bunnings or other hardware stores. There was a great range and the recycled timbers on offer were sensational. I think that it's great there is a timber supplier really interested in providing quality recycled materials for a good price. Will be back again.

Had a wonderful experience with Paulie, what a legend!! I came in looking for timber for a Uni project and he gave great customer service and was able to meet my admittedly unreasonable demands by sourcing offcuts and pulling some strings to get timber for me!! I ended up leaving with some beautiful American Oak pannels, dowels and offcuts which were all thicknessed and cut to size on the spot for me! They all look beautiful in my final product. Amazing experience, will definitely be back again!

Spectacular AAAAAAAAAAAAAA+++++ I ordered late and just before a long weekend and was told that the stock would be short which i was ok with as i was ordering more than enough, they also did their best to price match so pricing is a “Thumbs Up”. I Organised delivery for Friday, they showed up nice and early, extremely professional, and extremely safe and they somehow sourced everything in one delivery.. staff are extremely helpful, in the old location and in the new. Being a customer of theirs in the last 7 years, however laterly staff are been allowed to work when cold/flu symptoms are showing during the covid omnicron crisis. after a visit there with a staff member that was clearly coughing and sneezing. I have also contracted omnicron. well done swalding, sell timber and hardware as well as free dose of covid. i wont be going back there in a hurry

Arrived, was served immediately by a great bloke who introduced himself as Pauly. We discussed my unusual request and six weeks post surgery with plates and screws in his right leg, he walked me all around the timber yard and up and down stairs to help me find what I was looking for. Great service, friendly and efficient, great prices and they even machined all my timber to size. Couldn’t ask for a better timber yard.

Fantastic timber yard. I drove past by chance and ended up going back the next day for some Tas Oak. They had huge quantities of a very comprehensive range of sizes. Prices were decent and the place was well staffed. Unfortunately their website doesn't give much away in terms of exactly what they stock, but it feels like this is the kind of place where you can just rock up and know you will find what you need.

Incredible timber yard, so organised and exceptional selections available. That said the service is what takes this place to another level. Paul in particular was an absolute legend, I'm at best an absolute novice woodworker and he took all time I needed to show me a tonne of options and helped me work out what just I wanted and needed. Paulie was extremely helpful and funny! Above and beyond! I barely had to lift a finger - as opposed to bunnings where I'm left to do everything myself (I'm not very strong so this was a huge privelage for me at swadlings) first time customer and surely will be returning. A bonus that it's supporting a family business. Had a much larger selection of timber compared to bunnings too, by far!

Amazing selection of beautiful timber and wonderful customer service from Pauly. He made the process so easy, I came home with the perfect American oak wooden shelves for my kitchen and matching wood boards for under my kitchen island. I had zero idea what I was doing and at no point was I made to feel stupid! Thanks Pauly, I’ll be back to finish off a few other projects.

What amazing service! My partner and I wanted to build a workbench and don't have a lot of knowledge or skills building things. Paul spent a long time with us, checking over the plans and making sure we were purchasing the right materials for the job. He cut everything down to size so the bench was ready to assemble. 5 star experience. Went to Bunnings and it was hard to get their attention. When I did they were unhelpful. Went to Swadlings and Paulie greeted me with one foot still in my car. Helped me through the entire process (a piece of timber with a few cuts that were too complicated for Bunnings). Very fair price. I'll be going back as my 1st stop in the future.

After spending hours of my life that I will never get back at Bunnings I went to Swadlings and was in and out with what I needed in 10 minutes. I need to buy wood for a year 12 major project, the staff there were really helpful and friendly, They made time to listen to the needs and get the right wood for my project. They are thickness the wood down to the right size and have been very helpful the whole time. There opening times were very convenient and had a great hardwood selection.

Fantastic service.......tried to buy 5.4m deck boards from multiple timber yards on the Northern beaches and all insisted timber was bought by the square metre. Spoke to Mark Swadling mid afternoon on Wednesday and the boards were delivered to site at 7.15 on Thursday.....5 stars

Great service the handful of times I have been there. They are not only helpful with what I am seeking, but great at asking clarifying questions to ensure they understand exactly what I am trying to achieve and also providing advice on things I had not considered.

Wow, a timber yard that actually stocks a selection of timber in stock! Most yards these days carry nothing and offer to order the product for you with a ridiculous delivery fee. I'll be giving this yard first choice in future. Staff are very helpful.

I have been to Swadlings a number of times, I was referred to Paulie by one of the staff, and after hearing what I needed for my art project he managed to find a perfect piece of Timber that would work. I would have no hesitations to go back again.

Great new convenient location and staff are quick to offer assistance and help load material. We get Unisand dry sand for our RenoGrass synthetic grass installs and for smaller inner west backyards we want to do a quick pickup so this is perfect.

I recently went to buy several lengths of aluminim frams & the "sales" guy refussed to cut them to my required length. Even as there is cutting table. He explained hes not to spend too much time with coustomers ! I went to Bunnings.

Fantastic timber yard and hardware store. I was fixing up a bathroom and Paul sorted me out from advice on materials to cutting it to size for me, even recommended the best adhesive for me to use. Really friendly and helpful!
