Biggest buzz kill ever. My visit to Sweet Crimes yesterday (rode my bike from Takoma Park) May 5, 2023, and my visit was f-ing awful. I am a health and wellness author that has done a smidge of media (Dr. Oz, People, Access Hollywood) recently got out of the hospital due to an illness, and the doctor okayed my having modest gluten-free sweets again. Previously visited Sweet Crimes in December 2022, and it was such a heartwarming experience. A friendly young woman at the counter had good energy and gave me a free lemon bar since it was my first visit. (Also, I purchased a good amount of sweets for a dinner party I was attending.) During yesterday’s May 5, 2023, I walked in super cheerful (remember, I haven't had any sweets in 3 months). Yet, Immediately the tall young African-American man working the counter with dreads took an aggressive stance, no smile, no hello - just as if he was ready “to act” in case I robbed the place. I started to video some items to share and recommend Sweet Crimes on my social media, and he says, “Uh, is there something I can help you with?!” I ask if the owner is available not to complain about him but to merely share how glad I was to find Sweet Crimes with all of my recent health issues. “Uh, she’s really busy right now,” he says. In my head, I am like, “What small business owner doesn't come out and talk to customers?!” The place is so tiny I can hear the owner, and I communicate my compliment to her anyway. I then asked the young man working the counter if I could have a plate so that I do not have to video and take pictures of the Sweet Crimes items I planned to share on social media in the scraggly wax paper they wrapped my things - he responds “yeah we don't give out plates or allow that.” Two white female customers walk in after me. This young man shows them bright Disneyland Bojangles smiles, and even the tone and meter in his voice are lighter and friendlier. So in summation. If you look anything like the residents from the Potomac Gardens public housing community across the street from Sweet Crimes - anticipate cold and unfriendly customer service. If you look like a hipster Washington Post writer like Austin Graff, a Capitol Hill red state staffer or mommy blogger or -, expect warm customer service and staff that shows you their pearly whites. Lastly. Re: the response below. One thing I cant stand is a liar. No employee nor the owner of Sweet Crimes EVER communicated they didnt want to be filmed, nor were there any signs indicating such. Further, the female owner even recording a 1:47 video of me giving the business a shout out before the rudeness from the front facing staffer member. That you would come here and lie, and then not show empathy and sympathy first says a lot about your character and lack thereof. Piss poor representation of the integrity of the small business community of my hometown. Dont make me post the video with Sweet Crimes owner MORE than willingly to be videoed, or subpoena your store video and sue you for libel. Dont write checks you cant cash puddin. And as other commenters have said here your baked goods are hit and miss.

Capitol Hill's first gluten-free bakery is here! Located on Pennsylvania Ave SE on the same block as the late Representative John Lewis' barber, Sweet Crimes is a small bakery with mighty products. Here's why you should visit: 1) Food: If you're not gluten intolerant, you may look down on gluten-free products, but don't with Sweet Crimes. They are among the best baked goods in the city and happen to be gluten-free. On opening day (November 22, 2021), I stopped in for an egg and cheese biscuit (I paid an extra $1 for ham), chocolate chip scone and a chocolate glazed donut. Each was flavorful and moist, especially the scone. I'm not a big fan of dry scones and this one had the perfect texture. So tasty! 2) Drinks: They have an impressive coffee list, including a s'more cocoa made with marshmallows, honey and graham crackers. My latte was well brewed and smooth. They also sell a variety of tea. 3) Space: It's small, but cozy. It's in a blue brick building with a mural painted inside. The window space has two small tables and a long bench filled with pillows. Behind the glass are their pastries and gluten-free cake mixes line the wall by the register. 4) Service: When I stopped by, two women were behind the counter. Both were genuinely friendly and proud of their work at the bakery. One told me she grew up just blocks from the bakery. 5) Story: This bakery is woman-owned. Keri is from Maryland and traveled the world with her family and in her career in international development. When she moved back to the area, she started baking gluten-free products and even picked up a few awards along the way. If you're into delicious baked goods and a hyper-local shop, stop by Sweet Crimes Bakery.

Nothing short of five stars. Sweet Crimes was excellent from customer service to taste. It’s not just a good gluten-free bakery, it is a good bakery. The ordering process was pain free. I don’t always have a phone nearby, so email communication works best for me. I didn't have to clear multiple appointments to talk on the phone. The people working when we arrived were friendly and attentive. Even the other customers were fantastic. I ordered a custom birthday cake. I gave as much detail as I could but was useless in providing solid guidance (sorry!). We walked into the bakery and immediately raved about this cake in the display. Turns out, it was our cake. The look captured everything perfectly. The cake was moist and the filling was flavorful. Everyone commented on how the icing was tasty but not overly sweet. I also got cinnamon rolls, donuts, and a cookie. Everything tasted wonderful. I haven't had a cinnamon roll in YEARs. I was almost in tears at how beautiful it tasted. Since it is gluten free, everyone at the party could eat without having to feel isolated with separate food. There was zero gastric distress, zero reactions that we experience from gluten exposure. If you’re looking for something special for that person with a gluten dietary restriction, this is your place. If you’re looking for something that tastes wonderful and you don’t care about gluten content, this is still your place.

Every time I visit this new business gets better and better. Their staff is very polite, patient, and thoughtful. My favorites are their donuts, they are like cake donuts which I usually hate but these have a squishy, most texture that is so good! Definitely try the passionfruit flavor. I also love that their gluten free base flour does not have nuts. They tend to sell out of the good stuff quick so try to visit earlier in the day if you can. Their hot drinks can take awhile and aren’t always the best in flavor, but their lavender milk steamer was delicious. There is some room for improvement in terms of procedure (e.g. making other customers with quick orders wait- I ordered a hot drink and a customer behind me got a little frustrated waiting for pastries out the case) which will probably improve once they establish ordering ahead. I would also appreciate it if products in the case were labelled if they have nuts added. Their egg&cheese biscuit is great. I look forward to continuing to visit this nice neighborhood spot. I will be trying their premade gluten free cake mixes and sandwiches next!

The cranberry bliss bar was literally to die for! We love coming here for the ever changing treats, including vegan gluten free options. You can’t tell many of these are gluten free, they are so well done, so do not shy away if you aren’t gluten free. This is our Saturday morning date spot. From fresh breads to cupcakes to lunch options and good coffee, this place is a hidden gem.

Great bakery! My daughter and I are both GF and have been making more adjustments to serve GF to her family (hubby and 2 boys 13 and 7). Its offerings like what's available here that make the transition easy! We had a treat there and brought home an assortment as well. The Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Cinnamon Bun, Blonde and Chocolate Cupcake were perfect flavor and texture. Not cloying sweet like some other places. We sampled the Cranberry Nut bread ❤️. Then brought home a Chili Chocolate Brownie, Frosted Carrot Cake, a Chocolate Chip Cookie, and a slice of the Zucchini Bread...all as delicious. My daughter and I had the Iced Caramel Coffee and the boys had the freshly made Lemonade. The sitting area is inviting and I love the eco-friendly utencils, etc. The staff was so pleasant and welcoming. This shop is a must if you are in the area! We will be back!

Ok, let me start by saying that I have never written a review on Google before, but I made a point of taking a moment today to write this because this place is an absolute must-stop for anyone who has suffered the indignities of mediocre gluten-free products for far too long. I have been gluten-free since the Dark Ages (2008, when styrofoam was the only texture gluten-free products came in). I have hunted down every dedicated gluten-free place I have been able to find in all my travels on planet Earth, and the sandwich I had at Sweet Crimes today is the best sandwich I have had since going gluten-free. I don’t know what sorcery is happening in their kitchen, but it’s working. Their donut holes? I don’t know how many calories they have, and I don’t want to- they are the closest thing I have had to a proper donut in 15 years. Go! Right now!

Despite the fact I personally have no dietary restrictions, this is one of my favorite little bakeries in DC. They've got a wide array of food and pastries, and many of their products you would never guess are gluten-free, vegan, etc. Most of all however, the staff at this place are AWESOME! They are unbelievable nice, a few of the baristas know my coffee order by heart, and every once in a while they'll even give me a pastry or two for free. It's the kind of place that makes you want to be a regular- and who cares about you if you are. The employees here also seem to really be happy at work- which makes me all the happier to patronize the business. Not to be cheesy, but any bakery can make pastries– it takes something special to create a sense of community, like Sweet Crimes does!

My out-of-state friend has Celiac, so when she visited we were very excited to check out Sweet Crimes. I'm so glad we did, because it ended up being our morning coffee/sweet treat every single day she was here. We sampled a little bit of everything, and it was all delicious. The scones, carrot cake, banana bread, babka, and donuts in particular. Perfect texture and taste. The coffee is awesome, too - really smooth and really flavorful. Service did take a little bit of time, but well worth it. For the quality and care, the price is great. Two coffees and 3 pastries came to about $25 for us, and it was a great price for something so special - true sweet indulgence for everyone, Celiac or not. Also - there was a little boy running the cashier with his mom. Truly the most adorable way to start the morning <3

I'm not gluten-free and I remember being skeptical the first time I was offered a piece of a Sweet Crimes cake (most gluten-free products I've had just remind why I appreciate that I can eat gluten). However, my mind was immediately changed after taking a bite of that delicious, moist cake! Since then, I've tried a lot of the large selection of products Sweet Crimes has to offer and every time I'm blown away that they are gluten free! Even my incredibly finicky sister (also not gluten-free) begs me for chocolate chip cookies from Sweet Crimes whenever I place an order with them. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! Favorites include the coconut macaroons, almond cake, chocolate chip cookies, and mint-chocolate chip cookies (she uses Andes chocolates in those - I mean, come on! That's amazing!).

  • Kerry Leehan

I love this place. I have celiac disease and good bread is hard to come by- restaurants i can samely eat in? Few and far between. The sandwiches are fantastic. Best gluten free bread in the city. The brownies are incredible. Don't sleep on the sweet breads either. Everyone I've ever interacted with has been lovely, hard working and cool. Fabulous. Things can be slow (only one person on the counter and they only have 2 hands) but there are benches inside and out to hang out and meet the neighbors. Totally worth the wait! So grateful they have a brick and mortar store!

Sweet Crimes made the gluten free cupcakes for our wedding in 2019, and I’m so thrilled they’ve opened a storefront! Their khachapuri is an amazing treat with a luxurious texture. Their ham and gruyère sandwich is huuuge and could easily feed 2-3 people. The pumpkin bread and carrot cake are soft and delicious (carrot cake was one of the cupcake flavors at our wedding, it is That Good). The donuts sell fast for a good reason and you would do well to find out why. Keri, the owner, is the sweetest person in the whole world, and an absolute dream to work with. If you’re gluten free (or even if you eat gluten!), stop in and grab a bite!

This store front is cute and has a very trendy but cozy vibe inside. The service was great and everyone was very willing to answer our questions. All allergen information is clearly indicated on the menu to allow for easy ordering. We had the ham and cheese sandwich and a chili brownie. The ham and cheese sandwich was delicious with cheese on the bread and in the sandwich. The chili brownie wasn’t super spicy but had a good kick in the after taste. The vegan members of our party enjoyed pumpkin bread and a chocolate donut.

I had a really good cheese and egg biscuit, a latte and I couldn’t NOT get the donut. This place is amazing. All of the food I and my partner had was incredible and the coffee was brilliant too. But THE DONUTS. They were AMAZING. They sold out whilst I was sat here (10:30 on a Sunday) so make sure to get here early! The person at the counter said they’re still very new and figuring out how fast things will sell. Cannot recommend enough. This was all delicious.

I first discovered Sweet Crimes early in the pandemic via Grubhub - loved their stuff. The Cap Hill storefront looks nice but going to it is an unpleasant experience. If more than 3-4 customers are in the store, there's no room to stand. Dairy free items are on a board behind the cashier but you can't see it if you're standing in front of the display and scoping out the goods. Felt rushed to order as a result of the crammed space and several people behind me. Prices are reasonable but there's no "wow" factor. If you're looking for a cake, go to Red Bandana in Bethesda - you'll save a lot of money.

Great place for dairy and/or gluten free goods. Staff was inconsistent with their website. I asked if the item had corn or soy and was told no. The donuts must be popular because only the pumpkin bread was available for vegan options. I would return here, but would call ahead to ask if the specific thing I want is in stock first.

Whoa!! Just whoa!!! I had to stop myself from asking the girl at the counter "is this gf? Is THIS GF?" Because EVERYTHING IS GF!! I feel so liberated not having to be that person asking if whatever I want is GF. And WOW is it DELICIOUS. I seriously questioned everything in the back of my mind 'is this really tho'?!' because it all tastes exactly as yummy as the stuff I remember during my gluten eating days. I was amazed and wish one of these bakeries would open in every city and state so I can rest assured that I could visit anywhere and feel safe eating. Thank YOU for serving us folks with sensitivity/allergies.

I ordered the chocolate cake with buttercream frosting for my two daughters’ birthday (turning 4 and 2). I also ordered cupcakes for the girls to have as their own. Before ordering, I had a few questions and Sweet Crimes was extremely responsive and helpful. Once ordered online, they reached out to me to confirm pickup and asked if I wanted anything special for the cupcakes. They did a fabulous job making special cupcakes for my girls who couldn’t have been more excited about them! Everyone at the party loved the cake (myself included) and we will definitely be ordering from Sweet Crimes again!

Cozy place that serves fantastic selection of gluten free pastries and baked goods. Rotating seasonal items+regulars keeps things interesting and my taste buds happy. My favorite so far are the scones, apple cider donut, and cinnamon buns. Sweet Crimes has made itself a staple of the Eastern Market/Capitol Hill neighborhood that I don't think I can ever move away.

If there is a place in town that has become a favorite, it would be this one. My girlfriend’s dietary restrictions make it so hard for her to find a spot where she can indulge on the things she usually struggles to find fresh anywhere unless we bake them ourselves! The crew is exceptional AND above all, they are so accommodating and attentive to dietary details! Love the place! Even for one, myself, not having dietary restrictions, I love coming here! Don’t forget the sandwiches too…they are a pleasant surprise!

The sweetest treats from the kindest people. Supporting this business is not just a delicious affair but it is feel-good as well. True to their word, their goods are criminally delicious. Time and again, I leave this bakery too-full and with a happy smile. You will not regret going. My favorites: Their Quiches Cinnamon rolls Donuts Ps. Thank you to the kind, beautiful woman at the registry with the kindest eyes who told me she liked my energy and whose kindness made my week and was exactly what I needed to lift my spirits.

Bought my gf some cupcakes and treats for her birthday so I went here as it was close and I wanted to support local business. Amazing woman and locally owned gluten free bakery. In addition to being 100% gluten free, many items also are dairy free and accommodate other dietary restrictions. The donuts and donut holes are THE BEST! As are the cupcakes (almond with matcha icing is my fav), pumpkin bread, carrot cake, bagels, blondies, and bread. And everything else I've tried. Even if you're not gluten free, sweet crimes is delicious and a fantastic business to support!

My boss got me banana bread and an apple crisp donut from this bakery, and I’m in shock by how delicious they both are! I’ve been trying out many different gluten and vegan free desserts over the year and haven’t had any luck with them being the right texture and taste. This place has seemed to master gluten and vegan free ! I’m so excited. Also, I want to add that my boss shared the staff there are super friendly, which is always a great plus!

My wife brought back a number of goodies after they first opened, including my favorite, a blueberry muffin. It was beyond spectacular, I mean possibly the best blueberry muffin I have ever had in my life. It was simply that good! If she hadn't told me it was gluten-free, I'd never have guessed. In fact everything was so wonderfully delicious it really makes you wonder, "Is gluten really even necessary?". So happy to have them in the neighborhood, will be visiting often!

  • Erin Sclar

Every thing that I had there was amazing and the employees were so nice! Embarrassingly, I will list all of the items I consumed on my one week visit to DC: brownie, lemon bar, vanilla cupcake, wild berry lemon cake, chocolate chip cookie, biscuit, blueberry scone, cinnamon donut... I also brought a hoagie roll home with me that I haven’t tried yet. 10/10 would eat here daily and will choose my next Airbnb based on its proximity to Sweet Crimes.

My wife has gluten, egg, and coconut allergies, which make it very hard to make or find sweet treats for her. I reached out to Keri at Sweet Crimes in the hopes that she had anything that would work for my wife's birthday. To my surprise and my wife's joy, she created a delicious and beautiful red velvet cake that went far beyond my expectations. Keri was responsive, friendly, creative, and clearly knows how to work around dietary restrictions. 10/10 will try again.

Visited this bakery for the first time on Sunday am - I didn’t catch the names of the staff but both were SO kind and welcoming. I had my two little ones with me & they let them taste a couple of extra treats :) The food was all incredible and the vibe/atmosphere is just great. I would highly recommend this bakery to not just those with a gluten sensitivity or allergy, but to anyone who enjoys delicious baked goods and kind employees. Definitely will visit again!!

Normally, I wouldn’t gravitate towards a gluten free bakery, but we decided to get some Christmas cookies here and they were amazing! Really soft (my favorite type of cookie) and the service was so friendly here. The bakery is really small so there’s not a ton of room for sitting, its more of a grab and go situation. I am glad to see things are still going well and that people are loving this spot. I’d love to return for breakfast one day!

Catherine the owner was so kind to bring me a chocolate cupcake to my work for my birthday. Ive tried several gluten free treats in my life and most of them have been very dry. This place was not only adorable but delicious the owner was so nice. I was visiting from out of state and went back two days in a row. The woman that was taking the orders was so sweet. Keri made an amazingly beautiful and delicious cake for a wedding shower in which the bride can't consume gluten (see beautiful orange-colored cake on the website!). Everyone commented on how gorgeous it looked (wedding colors) and how moist and delicious it tasted. Thank you Keri for making me look like the "genius" who found the wonderful baker who could pull off gluten-free deliciousness! Will most definitely order from Sweet Crimes in the future!

The Ham and Gruyère was delicious. Worth the wait. Had the pumpkin bread and banana bread too. Pumpkin bread was a bit too grainy. Banana bread was perfect, should’ve gotten two banana bread slices instead. Blondie was good but only for two small bites, any more than that was overwhelmingly sweet.

Amazing bakery with great food and great service! I came into the bakery this morning to get my hands on some of the sweet treats everyone is raving about and wow they did not miss. The donut, brownie and pumpkin bread were all fantastic. And to top it all off the lovely lady working the register and helping me was fantastic. Such warm, friendly service that leaves you feeling great about the day ahead. I can't wait to come back!

For those who must gluten-free this is a treasure...an expensive treasure. One doughnut was more than 3.00 , but delicious and a sandwich with scarce fixings between the bread was 13.00. I wish there had been more in the middle so that I could say whether or not it was good. The carrot cake was absolutely delicious and moderately priced at 5.00 per small slice. A tiny quiche was 12.00 so I passed on that. Parking is a challenge.

  • Tee Cole

Took the 44 min ride from NW Baltimore just to find gluten-free bakeries. The staff were nice, place very small but really cute. The cupcakes were dry, the pumpkin cake dry and only tasted like spice, carrot cake had no shredded carrots and was dry. The regular brownie was moist and I liked the chocolate chips but it had a cinnamon taste to it, which I don't care for. Can't say I'll make the drive again. The hunt continues...

Oh my! One of my favorite places in D.C! As someone with severe gluten sensitivity, eating out is often a real source of anxiety. Not here! Dedicated gluten free facility with amazing breakfast sandwiches and delightful pastries. The outdoor seating is absolutely adorable! We had the biscuit breakfast sandwich with egg, ham, and cheese! We also tried the strawberry poptart and chai donuts! Wonderful experience all around!

GET THE CHILI BROWNIE! This is a very great spot! I had the egg and cheese biscuit, hazelnut Marocchino, and they let me sample the chili Brownie! YALL GOTTA GET THAT CHILI BROWNIE! For starters, I don’t care for a touch of spice in my desserts or pastries, or Spicy stuff in general, (unless it’s jerk chicken or jollof rice, I will risk it all for those) but after having jalapeño cornbread I’m becoming more open to it!

  • Kim Johnson

First timer and not a fan as I had hoped. Wasn’t the warmest welcome I expected as a new customer which I state to the cashier. It would have been nice to have suggestions offered. the cinnamon bun was not impressive for $6. The blondie was super sweet but lacked flavor. I’m sure many others will disagree but this was my experience. No response needed from the owner, best wishes for success with your business.

Terrific sandwiches and sweets today after a full morning touring sites in DC. With two Celiac folks in my family, eating out is always a challenge, so we rarely do it. Our first time at this place and we loved everything. We do all our own GF cooking and baking at home, and for the first time in years my wife said, "I couldn't make this better at home, this is delicious". We will be back!

  • Julia Reichelt

Amazing gluten free bakery! Banana bread, the sandwich with turkey and the matcha latte were all amazing, would have loved to try more stuff! As a celiac, it's often difficult to find places to eat when traveling, so I was really glad to find Sweet Crimes when I got stuck in D.C. due to a flight rebooking. It's got a cute decor and there are a couple of tables to dine in, very cozy.

If you're looking for a gluten free bakery look no further!! I wish I could give this place 100 stars. The customer service was amazing and the bakery items were equally amazing. Absolutely amazing -- give these wonderful people your business! Woman-owned business, gluten-free and delicious food, and an adorable atmosphere -- what's not to love?! Can’t get enough of this place!! The staff are knowledgeable & friendly. And the owner, Kerrie, is amazing. If they don’t have a pastry, bread or flavor you want, just ask. She can probably make it for you! 100% gluten free facility, so you never have to worry (and all the other ingredients are clearly marked, so don’t worry if you can’t have nuts, soy, dairy, etc).

The owners helped us with out gender reveal cannon lables (we had the HARDEST time tracking down someone who wasn't attending who would help keep the surprise.) It's a BOY. Thank you! The brownies were a hit! 10/10 customer service and flavor! The English muffins were great too!

Had a miscommunication about an order and when I went to pick it up, although it wasn’t what I had originally requested, the two very polite and helpful employees took care of adjusting my order quickly and courteously. Great service. Wonderful baked goods. Very pleased Thank you …… it was a tough morning for me and you took care of it. Much appreciated.

Keri did such a lovely job with a custom cupcake order! I was looking for a bakery that could do gluten-free and vegan cupcakes with custom decorations to celebrate an engagement. Keri knocked it out of the park with very little direction! In addition to being adorable, the cupcakes were delicious - you couldn't even tell they were gluten-free and vegan!

We LOVED everything we got from there. First of all, they were super busy but the staff was working super fast and was incredibly nice and friendly. The sandwiches were delicious (specially the ham and gruyere) and so were the sweets. Awesome scone, brownies and red velvet cupcake. Definitely will want to order birthday cakes from there in the future.

  • Enrique

Great sandwiches, drinks, and desserts. I’m not gluten free or vegan but let me tell you these desserts I’ve had at sweet crimes have blown me away. They taste amazing. Im a huge fan of their vegan red velvet cupcake I pick up some treats every Saturday for my weekend treats.

Amazing gluten free bakery. Pastries and biscuits just as good if not better than those made with gluten. It's not possible to detect a difference. All are very high quality and service is fast and reasonable.

Excellent experience here. Wasn’t sure what to get and asked the staff’s advice. They ended up giving me two free samples and I left with a bunch of incredible baked goods. Banana bread was our favorite. Exceptional service and wonderful GF goods.

This place is truly amazing. Hands down the best Gluten free donut I’ve ever had. And everything I’ve tasted from here is so good! Often you taste gluten free products and they don’t taste anything like products with the gluten - but that’s not the case with this bakery. Especially with the cinnamon donut holes. Soooo good!!!

  • Ever Hess

My favorite gluten free bakery in all of DC. Everything, and I do mean everything, is delicious: the sandwiches, the biscuits, the cupcakes, the donuts, the quiche, the lattes. It’s a gluten free paradise. And the staff is, in a word, delightful.

My partner and I went here the other day, visiting from out of town. The sweets were lovely but the tomato pesto (w chicken) sandwich was AWESOME. I’ve been gluten free for about ten years and it was probably the best sandwich I’ve had since. The bread was some of the best I’ve had and I wish I bought some to take home .

The staff has always been above and beyond! The pizza is my favorite thing besides the hot chocolate! It genuinely takes like a regular pizza and you cant even notice the difference. The cookies and donuts are also really good. This place is my favorite in DC and I love telling people about this place! :D More

Dedicated GF and many DF, nut free or vegan options. I tried the roast beef sandwich and almost died of happiness. The bread was magical. I also had a chocolate cupcake and hazelnut iced morchinno and ordered like 8 other treats to take home and share with family. They now have patio seating open in the back.

If you are looking for a location where everything is gluten free, this is the place. I really like their food and their prepackaged mixes. Try their breakfast...so worth it. And finally, a donut I can eat! Yay. Sweet Crimes is excellent. Give them a try.

Everything they sell is hands down the best gluten free product in 10 years since I found out I was allergic, but their Carrot Cake tops it all. The thick amount of creamy sweet cream cheese frosting, moist chewy cake underneath, the whole thing melts on your tongue and question if it's really gluten free.

I just happened to be in this area as I live in southern Maryland. I was hungry and stumbled upon this place. Ordered a Turkey Swiss and the smoothie. Had a donut hole while waiting. Everything was sooooo delicious!!! Fresh, warm, flaky and yet guilt free! I’ll be finding my way back here - on purpose.

We ordered a lemon sheet cake for my daughter’s confirmation and it was hands down the best gluten free cake we have had. And we have been gluten free for 10 years now and have tried many places in the DC metro area. Keri if very easy to work with and her shop has lots of fun options beyond the cakes!!

  • Shannon Mouton

I have ordered cakes from Sweet Crimes twice and twice this bakery has exceeded my expectations. My Mom's 80th birthday cake was gorgeous and delicious. An enthusiastic 2-thumbs-up.

I love the concept of creating baked good for gluten free population, but this isn't it for me unfortunately. The cupcake was dry and dense - it tasted like my pea protein powder smooshed together into a clump. The coffee wasn't even great either - tasted watered down. I was disappointed.

  • Anne Golla

Such a treat to walk in and know I can eat anything in the display case! No worries about cross-contamination, it's all GF. Really beautiful assortment of sweet pastries and excellent hot sandwiches, plus coffee - the ham and gruyere sandwich was great. Very cozy and comfortable patio.

  • Elayne Bryan

The donuts and very probably everything at this shop are amazing but for goodness’ sake, don’t sleep on the biscuits. They’re the stuff GF southern breakfast dreams are made of. If this place is out of your way and you’re not sure if it’s worth the trip or not — it very much is. More

I ordered chocolate chip cookies. Overall, good texture and taste, but the cookies were WAY TOO SUGARY and TOO MUCH CHOCOLATE. I like chocolate, thats why I ordered the cookies, but there was too much. There wasn't enough dough.

I have had Celiac disease for 15 years and my friend purchased a gluten-free carrot cake from Sweet Crimes as a surprise for my birthday. This was hands down the best cake I've ever had. It was moist, flavorful, well-balanced and spectacularly decorated. Highly recommend!

  • Gabriel Olson

Fantastic selection of delicious GF pastries, pies, pizza and coffee. Love this place, only been a couple times. So much more to try. Their quality is excellent, and their breads and pastries are not overly chewy and tough like some other GF bakeries.

  • JT Jay

Just had a ham sandwich from this place and everything was delicious-- the GF bread, spread, and ham. I also picked up some cookies and a cinnamon bun to try. Definitely my new favorite place for GF food! I can't wait to try more options.

  • RZ SH

Crazy impressed with the customer service here. We had a misunderstanding about the shipping policy when I’d emailed them (heads up - if you’re shipping an order, you’re selecting the ship date, not the delivery date), and they actually

I ordered a cake for a joint birthday between one celiac and one non celiac (me!) I took a risk having never ordered from sweet crimes before and sized up to a medium cake instead of a small. I love second day cake with my coffee :) the

I ordered some cupcakes to be delivered to my friend for her birthday. They arrived on time and she said they were delicious. I asked for their top flavors in the mini cupcakes. Thanks so much again, loved the way it was packaged too!

  • Emily Balyeat

Small women owned business where I can eat guilt free! Fits all my gluten free needs, they have everything! We got their doughnuts and egg & cheese biscuits. Prices were reasonable. Outdoor patio. This place is a hidden gem.

  • Brianne Deerwester

The coffee and sandwiches were good, but the price of everything was extremely high. It was confusing to determine which items did not contain dairy (or other allergens) so I suggest labeling them more clearly.

  • Brianne Fischer

Absolutely delicious. I’ve had the doughnuts, macaroon, dinner rolls, and hoagie. Couldn’t even tell they’re gluten free. They also have Vegan items. So excited to have Sweet Crimes in the neighborhood.

  • Debra Schrank

We got a delicious ice cream birthday cake -- and it was decorated beautifully, too. Great customer service and pickup system made the whole process very easy. Highly recommend!

  • David Halliday

Pretty mediocre GF fare. There aren't a lot of GF options around. I was excited when this place opened, but both bread and sweet treats disappointed.

  • AD

UPDATE: I ate one res velvet cupcake. It wasn’t great at all. It had a weird taste, tasteless and too dense/mushy. Throwing the other cupcake away.

  • Heather Horner

The most amazing bakery! They made the best 1st birthday cake for my son! It not only looked amazing but tasted just as good as it looked ❤️❤️❤️

  • Carlos Figueroa

Fantastic cookies and better customer service! They are very attentive and caring for their customers. Delicious ! Totally recommended. …

The vegan red velvet cupcake was good. However, I didn't enjoy the icing...tasteless. Great customer service.

  • Igor at FoodBeVenturer com

Fantastic catering and to-go spot with now awesome sammies on top of all the doughnuts and sweets.
