"My partner recommended going on the smell alone when walking past and glad she did"
The Extremely Good and the Quite Annoying. There were five of us for a Sunday lunch and I was pretty excited to eat here as I had passed it many times and the food smells were always amazing. Let me get the irritating out of the way up front. I had brought a bottle of fine wine to share with my friends because, quite frankly, very few Adelaide restaurants other than the high end ones carry an extensive wine list of carefully aged wines. This restaurant is no exception with the usual brief list of young red wine, much too young for drinking in my opinion. Nonetheless when I enquired about my BYO bottle and the associated corkage I was informed abruptly that BYO was not allowed in their restaurant. This was a first for me, I’ve never been refused before and I’m always relatively happy to accept the corkage hit. Now the SA Liquor Licensing Act does have provision for the licensee to refuse BYO without any listed reasons for doing so, so this restaurant is well within their legal rights to start off my lunch time by annoying the customers and getting them offside. Wouldn’t have thought that was a smart business practice though as it usually results in customers going home writing reviews like this one!! So I was forced to settle for a glass of ordinary, young, overpriced red wine not of my choosing. Did I mention overpriced? When will restaurants understand that they are there to prepare delicious food and not to be wine stores? $15 for a small pour which is normally $11-12 in other restaurants? That’s just plain price gouging. So after that the food would need to be good. Fortunately it was. We ordered the Lamb Shoulder, Mixed Souvlaki, Whitebait and Aggeli (mixed seafood) and a Santorini Salad. The serves were massive and certainly plenty for the most hungry of lunch eaters. In addition everyone was impressed with the quality of their meals. The lamb shoulder was moist, well cooked with balanced flavours. And the potatoes were great and the pita bread the best I’ve tasted! No room for desserts, but we ordered Greek Coffees and a long black because I’m always unexcited by Greek Coffee. Everybody was unimpressed with the Greek Coffee, the long black also nothing special. How do I rate the overall experience? If you’re not the sort who does BYO, and don’t mind average, overpriced wine, the meals are excellent and good value and I would heartily recommend this place. But for me the flat refusal of BYO with no reasons means I will not. There are lots of other Greek restaurants and other restaurants in Adelaide and as a paying customer I expect my happiness to be put ahead of their profits.

WELL, WELL, it seems things can change for the better as our last visit left a bit to be desired, this establishment went up a notch in our estimation. The service was prompt & efficient, the father & son floor staff exceeded our expectation & we appreciated their good & attentive service. Food was very good & the main meals were very generous & we struggled to consume the entire offering, a most enjoyable Sunday. I would now give 4 stars compared to the previous 3 & would consider coming back, definitely worth a punt. Cheers. This taverna has a good reputation & that is exactly how I would describe it, good & about 3 stars. It's a Sunday & we had a large group booking for lunch, the staff were okay, but lacked genuine warmth & appeared to be going through the motions. A gregarious host would lend themselves perfectly in a Greek taverna. The decor was also okay, but at no time was there a sense of a little piece of Greece in the setting. Blue & white tiles & the odd Greek print upon the wall did not suffice. The prices were not cheap, but the servings were reasonable, though most on offering I thought was over cooked & a tad dry. The waiting time was acceptable & you would think the waitresses would know exactly who ordered what & deliver a meal to the right customer without having to ask. The sweets were of a good quality. I cannot believe a Greek taverna stuffed up a Greek coffee, it was luke warm & way too much coffee. The cappuccino didn't fare much better & spoilt an otherwise good afternoon. Still, it was a good afternoon, we enjoyed the experience, but none of us would come again. Cheers.
So I've been trying convince my other half to visit this place for months and finally we did. Yum! This place did not disappoint. With very high expectations my partner was so pleasantly surprised. All the food was consistently delicious. The way it was cooked was with pure love and respect for the ingredients. The octopus so tender and matched perfectly with the pickled veg for a light starter. The dishes that blew us away, were the barramundi on a cheesy risotto and the lamb shoulder. This beast barramundi beautiful big serving the fish so tender and juicy, but with the crispy, salty skin, the tender delicate fish matched so perctly with a creamy decadent risotto. And the lamb shoulder...this was the reason we visited the Taverna. Cooked over charcoal it is still tender and juicy and rich fatty flavours again paired to perfection with the lemon potatoes. All topped off with some coffee patron, some traditional Greek coffee and the impeccable service from father and son duo Stav and Jacob. We thoroughly enjoyed dining with you guys tonight, and we will be back for sure! "Stin ygeiá sas" - SouthAussie_Foodies (Anthony and Kelly)
After visiting Taverna 2 years ago and being charged double for my bill because the waiter got it wrong (ps, I paid the entire bill), I thought I’d give them another try last night. My wife ordered the grilled prawns on a bed of risotto. The risotto was undercooked and still crunchy and inedible. When I mentioned this to the waitress she told me that’s how risotto is……please!! We also ordered a lemon lime bitters each and not sure what this concoction was but it was terrible. The other two meals were also average. When leaving, the host asked me what I thought of my food and after telling him about the crunchy rice, he just had a blank look on his face with no apology or even an offer for a discount (I’m not looking and wouldn’t have taken a discount, but just offer!!) Sorry but 2 strikes and I’m not giving another opportunity for a third!

My partner recommended going on the smell alone when walking past and glad she did. Booking table online, even the night before, was very easy. Parking is easily accessed in the middle of Port Road and set of lights makes crossing easy. The restaurant is a nice, little narrow shop that goes back for quite a while, able to accommodate couples and larger parties. The interior is very nicely fitted out and because of the size, you are not packed in like sardines. The waiters were courteous, giving time for us to decide. We started with dips and then had the Leonidas, a nice mix of meats and the Kokkinisto. The Leonidas had a nice smokey flavour. The Kokkinisto was something I had not had before. The wagyu beef fell apart and had a delicious seasoning. Looking forward to a revisit. The menu is quite large with something for everybody. Will look at sharing more as well. Due to the high quality, it is a bit pricier.
Greek Mediterranean cuisine at its best. The restaurant is very stylish with rock walls that are amazing to look at the workmanship. Food was delicious plates were overwhelming in size and taste. The waitress of the evening was friendly, professional and always attentive to our every need. Dessert menu is small but with the dishes that are available there is no need for anything else to be added. Absolutely loved our visit here.

I have always gone to Taverna in a group of 2. This was my first experience with a group of 6. The positive is that everyone loved the food, I highly rated the food at Taverna and it hit the mark with everyone at the table. Unfortunately, the service did not hit the mark. The starters came out very staggered, with the first dish coming by itself, resulting in everyone waiting for their starters. The final starter did not get to the table until after the mains were delivered. Just to reiterate, food was sensational. At the end, the bill was incorrect. This was corrected promptly but just added to the service being not up to par. I would recommend Taverna, but only if you are in a small group and not in a hurry.
A wonderful meal experience. Attended for staff Christmas dinner, the service and attention from the staff were amazing. The food was superb. A great indication that the restaurant being so busy with Greek nation folk is a testament that the food is authentic.

So, we read reviews, thought the serving sizes wouldn't be huge... I ordered a 750g pork chop... it was about 11 inches long & 2cm high with some chips and salad. The souva plate has 2 kebabs of meat and some pita (and half a potato) - no salad. The lamb backstrap was a large portion and came with potatoes (photos are on my friends phone!! D'oh!) - All meat is tender, flavoured well, and most dishes worth their price. Service is attentive and friendly, which is good. Table water is not cold. Tables are large for a nice spread out with friends, and the decor is modern and funky. The smells from this place are amazing, and we will be coming back again!

We've been here several times for dinner before a gig at the entertainment centre. It's a 10 minute walk or so down the road, so perfect distance. The food here is amazing, great presentation and flavour. I love Greek food and my wife has always been on the fence until she came here! Service is efficient and friendly. It's a big place and even when busy you don't feel like you're forgotten. First time we came we were on a bit of a clock, but despite being busy they got us in and out in about and hour and change which was impressive as they were pretty full.

First time i went here, 5 out of 5. Second time was 4, now its 2. What a shame, it was my greek go-to. No retsina, staple white wine wherever you go in greece. No octopus. Mixed seafood had a piece of metal steelo in it, i didnt complain because typically they think that the customer planted it for a free meal, i was too hungry to deal with that stuff. Seafood was average, nothing special, couldve gotten the same dish anywhere. My friends souvlaki was also average. Unfortunately the highlight was the gin & tonic, they use an awesome gin.

Best Greek food I've had in a long time. The chefs here are incredibly hard-working and very organised. The dishes are substantial - the amount you'd expect from a traditional Mediterranean mother. Flavours are well balanced and very tasty, with not too much salt. Service was attentive and enthusiastic, even though there were two tables of 10 dining at the same time. Waiter (owner/floor manager) suggested we get the food in whatever order the chef prepared it - a good recommendation. This made the first dishes come out quite quickly. I would have liked to see some Greek wine, but South Australians won't drink wine from anywhere else.
Went with a large family group. Service was great. Favourite dishes were the pita and dips, fried squid and fried whitebait. Don't accept Maxxia. Went to their new location on Port Rd. Great service and good atmosphere. Fried whitebait was massive serving size but it was a bit too fishy for my liking. Lamb shoulder was tender and delicious. Chicken souvlaki and stuffed meat pattie was alright. Garlic sauce was delicious. However, all the meats were served at barely lukewarm temperature so they lost a star. Chips were good. Massive serving size. Busy restaurant and so waited 40mins for food to arrive. Accepts maxxia card.
We visited Taverna last Friday night for dinner and were extremely disappointed with our meals. Having been numerous times over the years, we were excited for a special dinner. My barramundi was overcooked and reduced to mush without a crispy skin. The risotto that the fish sat on was overpowered by a huge amount of cheese and had the consistency of clag glue. The quality of meat on my husband's dish was below par, the meal was cold and the chips were not good. Overall it was one of the worst meals we have experienced. Such a shame as we have always loved eating here. Unfortunately we won't be back.
This is close to the best restaurant I've ever been to. The inside has such a nice atmosphere (it looks unassuming on the outside). The staff is super friendly. The food most importantly is amazing. Literally everything is delicious. It is pricey which is probably good because otherwise I would be here everyday. Instead I'm just here once a week! You get what you pay for in a good what here, so check it out if you haven't. Oh and lots of good gluten-free options too.

They charged us $8.5 for water! We clearly asked for table water but was given a bottle of still water. The young waiter gave misleading info causing we ordered too much food. The wine tastes average. Another staff maybe the owner stood in front of next table and talked for half an hour, which did not improve our dining experience. To be fair, the place looks cool especially the main area inside. The food comes with big portion and tastes nice.

Taverna Greek Psistaria has a great atmosphere to dine in and made our night with family memorable. Waitresses and all staff are friendly and extremely welcoming, with 10/10 highly professional service. Hats off to the chef's! The dishes were not only presented well, the whole tables dishes had nothing to fault. Perfect with amazing flavours and presentation. 10/10 Bartender- Santorini Sunset was gorgeous! The food we had was delicious and generous but disappointing that about 30 mins after ordering mains we were told the steak was no longer available and then about 30 mins after that was told the Moussaka was also no longer available. Given it was a Saturday night and presumably one of the busiest nights it was very lacking in forethought to actually run out of menu items. Can I suggest that you don’t have 2 sittings if you can’t accommodate requests for the 2nd sitting.

The restaurant is far larger than it looks on the outside, nor does the outside reflect what it is like on the inside. The food was amazing! I had the jumbo quails and they were juicy end full of flavour, the staff were friendly but the one thing that doesn’t make this a 5 star experience (and seems to be a common complaint) is the mains didn’t all come out at once and the gap between all the dishes coming out was not insignificant, if people who go their food first and they had waited for everyone else it would have been stone cold.
We found on exit it was the original restaurant in Bowden. Mixed platter and seafood platter was beautifully cooked and presented alongside of the zucchini strip's. We weren't overly hungry but we left no food behind. It was poli oreo. Well done. My only grievance was service. No connection no conversation and no acknowledgement when dealing with customers. Would I go again? Sure food was superb. Needs a music duo to pump the atmosphere!

This is a beautifully designed restaurant, with lovely staff and excellent food. I've dined here a few times over the past 6 months and every time I've had a wonderful meal. You can tell a lot about the quality of the food from their attention to detail to the simple things ... the pita bread is fluffy and delicious, and they use good quality Greek feta in their salad. I especially loved the saganaki and lemon potatoes. I look forward to going back and trying other dishes from the menu.
Great food and huge serves. It pained me that I was unable to finish the lamb shoulder. The wine selection was a decent size and great quality. I'd like to see some better beer but you can't have everything. The service was efficient and friendly. Great recommendations for both food and wine. We live nearby and will be back regularly. Cheers!

Had wonderful dinner experience at this place with family. We have ordered chicken souvlaki, yemista, pita with fetta-chili dip and pasta for kids. Chicken souvlaki was packed with chicken pieces and delicious. Enjoyed Lemon potatoes with this too. Baked paper and tomato(Yemista)were jam-packed with flavorful rice and vegetables. It was really appetizing. Kids loved the pasta and pita bread. Dessert(portokalopita) was very luscious. Service was very friendly and quick.
It was a fabulous surprise as I had never heard of this restaurant and only discovered it via a Google search. The food, the friendly service, and the variety of food were first class. We will definitely return again soon. PS: The size of the meals is definitely designed for sharing.

Greg and his staff went above and beyond to make sure our christening function for 65p went smoothly. There was absolutely no stress associated with booking and they were flexible with some last minute cancellation with guest unable to attend. The food was amazing !! I would definitely recommend taverna to any body thinking of hosting their function there. The service and atmosphere was incredible. Highly recommend this family locally owned business to anyone.

Delicious and tasty traditional Greek food! We had lamb shoulder and pork chops, with Pantzari Salata All the meat was cooked to perfection and every single accompaniment on the plate makes just the perfect combination. The potato, the halanosalata and the tzatziki are all very tasteful and go very well together. The picture is missing the lamb shoulder on it.

Wow amazing Greek food with very generous servings. Best octopus I've ever eaten...though a little expensive. Service was excellent, friendly and attentive. Next time will listen to the waiter and order less and share platters. Ordered the Lamb shoulder with lemon and herb potatoes and couldn't finish it. Thank goodness we were able to take home our leftovers. Had to leave room for dessert. Just as good! Loved it. We'll be back!

Went to Taverna with my partner and friends. The food was lovely. The service not so good. My partner had a beer and when he had finished he was asked if he wanted another. He did but the beer never arrived. Also had to ask for table water 3 times . We were still eating entree and our main course was put on the table. Not impressed. I booked a 7.30pm table and was told I had 2 hours. I’m not in a hurry to go back.

We celebrated my sons 18th at this fabulous Greek restaurant. Food and service were superb, and yes mains are huge - teenage boys did not need a maccas run afterwards . Management were very flexible in accomodating our group of 15, and great to deal with. We were recommended this restaurant and it didnt disappoint. Thank you to everyone at Taverna for a great night out.
Best tasting, quality authentic Greek food I've found in Adelaide as of yet. Service was amazing and staff went as far as bring out desert on my birthday, with a candle - to sing happy birthday. Would highly recommend, went above my expectations given its location.

The venue looks like a fish and chips shop as you approach from the outside it but surprisingly looks amazing inside. Had dinner with friends and had the opportunity to share the meals family style. The food was fantastic! Will be back here. I recommend this one.
Service was excellent, food was amazing so tender and nice charcoal flavour. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and can't wait to come back to try more food from their menu.

I never leave reviews but I have to for this.. first Greek restaurant experience and my expectations were beyond exceeded! The food was DELICIOUS and the customer service was just as delightful! So welcoming and friendly. I will be coming back again and again!
First time having dinner with friends, what can I say..all the dishes that we chose were amazing. Sadly we were too full for dessert. All the staff were lovely and friendly. I will definitely be back and also recommending this restaurant to family and friends.
Great food, reasonable serving sizes. Possibly a hidden gem for greek food in Adelaide

Well , Greek Born , from Thessaloniki. I’ve been seriously disappointed last 3 or 4 Greek restaurants . But , first time at Psistaria last Saturday night , 6 of us where knocked back in our seats with exceptional High Quality ,
They stung us with the bottled water trick when we asked for regular water. But other than that the food was really tasty and lots of it

Great quality greek food, love Taverna went for first time recently since their relocation. Its beautifully styled. I would say that it seems more expensive than before, like i used to get a certain mixed meat plate/platter for about $45
A great Greek restaurant. The food is delicious, the service is nice, and the dining environment is also good.

Fantastic! Tastes homemade and is overall excellent. The recipes must be directly from a Yiayia's book because they taste exactly like the ones at home. Quick service and reasonable price for the portions you get. Would definitely recommend !
Place is stylish, modern and friendly staff with excellent table service! Food was outstanding and delicious. Thank you for making our night special and memorable.

The food and atmosphere was fantastic. All the staff were friendly, happy and very professional. The ambience was great, Stavro and his team do a really fantastic job to make sure everyone enjoys their experience at Taverna Greek Psistaria.
It was my first time there and will definitely be going back. The ambience is great. Its very clean, first class and looks good. Our host Steve was incredibly friendly, a super personable bloke. He made our experience pretty cool. The food
Not a cheap place, but the price you pay comes with top tier customer service, ambiance and most importantly - superbly delicious food. Perfect place for a date night, or a night to celebrate and dine with friends and family with class.
This is my third visit to the Greek Taverna restaurant which offers authentic Greek cuisine, and it did not disappoint! The service was impeccable as always and the atmosphere was cozy. We tried the saganaki, leonidas, moussaka, betroot
Quite cosy, staff were always available and the food quality was amazing. The desserts, were incredible.

Great food! It is expensive, but it is definitely worth the money. I was fuller than a Queensland Policeman's Wallet! Will be back. We had the Lamb Souvlaki and the Goat for Mains. I highly recommend this place to fill your bellies.
All I will say is WOW! Had the lamb shoulder and trio of dips with my other half and it was exceptional. If you love your meat then you must give this place a go. Plenty of food in the serves so don’t be put off by the price.
Nice atmosphere, great service, fair prices and excellent food. Congratulations on the service and especially to the Chef, the dinner was fabulous.

Food was excellent & large portions. Tasty, fresh, yummy. Service is a bit lacking. Had to ask for everything - often twice. My meal came out a good 10 minutes after my husbands. However food quality was great
Food was good well portioned out. Had the set menu which was not bad.

Great food and service. Best Greek we've had. A little loud and busy for us, but can't blame them for that, clearly a popular place.

20 min wait for drinks. 1hr50min wait time for food. Manager rude and unapologetic. There are so many better Greek cuisine restaurants in Adelaide. This one is not worth the hassle.
Great food and friendly staff. Complimentary loukoumades were a lovely surprise. Keep up the good work!
