I was wrongfully arrested by the Police whilst trying to prevent two Officers from, what I considered, physically attacking and racially abusing an unarmed boy whom I had observed being arrested in the street. I had done nothing wrong but was subsequently drawn into the dispute by the unlawful acts that I saw. Matters took a turn for the worst for me when the Police decided that I would become the focus of their attention, me being charged with an offence of assaulting a PC in the execution of his duty and obstructing a PC from carrying out his duty. When the matter went to Highbury Corner Magistrates Court all charges were dismissed. I approached another firm of Solicitors to pursue a complaint and thereafter a claim against the Police. However, McMillan Williams were able to provide me with a Conditional Fee Agreement backed by the assurance that I would not have to pay adverse costs. This was a great reassurance for me as I was very concerned that in the event of an adverse outcome to the proceedings, I would not have the reassurance that the claim could be pursued on my behalf. Following negotiations between myself and the Police conducted on my behalf by McMillan Williams Solicitors Limited MWSL, I achieved what I considered to be a very satisfactory settlement together with an apology from the Police. This is a matter that shouldn’t have come to litigation but I was supported by McMillan and Williams who pursued my case tenaciously. I instructed Bellamy Forde of MW Solicitors in relation to my claim against Staffordshire Police arising out of some serious police misconduct which resulted in my false conviction and in me serving a very long time in prison.
