TL; DR - Credit to the staff - they adapted to some unforeseen technical difficulties, but the combination of those, some service oversights, and other issues resulted in us waiting 2 hours for average breakfast food. Party of 3 arrived at 11AM on a Sunday, put our name on the waitlist. We waited in the car parked out front until we were 3rd in line according to the online waitlist but we didn't move up despite seeing people leave. The waitlist just said "there was a slight delay" and we were still 3rd in line. It's a Sunday brunch spot, of course it's going to be busy, we thought. But after waiting for 45-50 minutes (the waitlist estimated a 24-35 min wait), we went inside to check. Turns out the online waitlist had gone down and they were now doing a manual waitlist. It was unclear if they had informed the crowd waiting outside the restaurant. Obviously, we wouldn't have heard it because we were sitting in our car anyway. We spoke with the maitre d' who put us at the very back of the new manual waitlist. While I understand it was chaotic and the staff did the best they could, it felt unfair, like we had been penalized, pushed from 3rd in line to the equivalent of 15th. Right before we were about to leave, we finally got seated. They removed two of our cups of coffee without us having to ask, due to curdled half and half, and we finally ordered our food. Then we watched plenty of other diners around us getting their food despite even being seated after we had placed our order. Finally our waitress brought out food to the table next to us, and we asked where our food was. She apologized profusely several times, as she had forgotten to actually submit our order. 2 hours after we arrived, the food came and it was just fine, nothing incredible and not worth waiting 2 hours. Granted, this might have been the worst day this restaurant has seen and a perfect storm, but it didn't feel like we had been taken care of as patrons.

We were promptly greeted. It was very busy and complete full house. Within 10-15 mins we were seated. Waiter came to our table 10 mins after being seated. Gave us our menus and came back 15 mins later. Took our orders and brought our beverages. Small size coffee and two small size hot chocolate. That was the only size they had. Our food arrived 20 mins after we ordered our food. They were missing the pancakes, and the bacon in my son’s dish. We called our waiter but he left. The food was really good, and we noticed that other tables with more people who actually came in 15 mins after us, were served way before we did. Our dishes weren’t nothing fancy, nor they had allergy/diet restrictions, so we have no idea why everyone else got served, but we had to wait. It is honestly a great vibe of a breakfast spot, and they were very busy. The waiter only came to our table the times I mentioned here. He did not showed up in between to ask how everything was ♀️ Another thing. For them to be in the heart of Chicago and have a misspelling of Columbian (there’s no such a thing) for (yes for Colombian coffee of course! DC nor BC grow coffee ♀️) that was quite the tea. And yeah, it was definitely . Maybe it was some sort of coffee product brought from BC or DC. ' / Not Columbia/Columbian (this adjective doesn’t even exist)

This place was recommended to us for Sunday brunch while we were in the city this weekend. There was a long wait outside the restaurant so we thought it was going to be great. Once seated, our server came over and we placed our order right away since it was so busy. I ordered a cappuccino and it was nice and frothy. I ordered a short stack of pancakes with a side order of bacon, and my husband order the chilaquiles. We waited forever to be served. Our server felt so bad that she brought us a couple slices of toast because it took so long… and still we waited and waited. It was really ridiculous. My short stack of pancakes was delicious. My side of bacon was not as very crisp even though I requested crisp bacon. My husband’s breakfast was not good. Instead of serving the chilaquiles on tortilla chips as is customary, Tempo served it on hash browns. It was an overeasy egg on hashbrowns with salsa and cheese. The best part of chilaquiles is the tortilla chips as is customary in that dish. Tempo totally missed the mark on that one. I won’t be back to this restaurant. It wasn’t worth the long wait to get seated followed by the torturous long wait for our food on and then how they missed the mark on one of our breakfast orders. Disappointing.

Was looking for a place that was safely gluten free for my wife who is allergic. This place seemed great, but upon furthering questions once we had already waited and been sat for a table, that isn’t the case. They cook their “gluten free” dishes on the same surface and with the same utensils as they do their wheat products. They also advertise on their website that they validate parking which was another huge reason why we chose to eat here. Parking at the garage next door is $26 for one hour, but they said that people who dine in get a voucher to only make it $8. During our checkout we asked the cashier to validate our parking and they said they don’t do that. I asked why they advertised it on their website that they do and they said, without any other explanation, “we don’t validate parking.” Definitely do not recommend eating here, we won’t be going back.

I just want to review how amazing this waffle was. I ordered a side of fruit and turkey sausage as well and just threw everything on the plate because the tables on the patio are so small. But let me tell you about this waffle. Not only is it aesthetically pleasing and not only is cooked so perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. But the taste of it is like candy like with the bite of the crunch . I don't know what they put in this but I have never experienced a waffle like this before. I got the chocolate chip waffle. And it's not overly sweet with the syrup. It was such a wonderful experience. The service is top tier and the food is filling. Would definitely recommend tempo cafe to anyone.

I love this breakfast place, though they were 24hrs pre covid so they do offer an extensive selection of lunch, dinner, and my favorite breakfast items!! Pre covid it was always packed to capacity, the wait time was always incredible but people would wait, as a testament to how great the service, the food, the portions, the ambiance, the price....everything!!! I just returned and was pleasantly surprised that they are still on top of their game!! Thank you so incredibly for delivering on the food and the service. My experience was exceptional and they sure deserve an applause . I absolutely recommend them and will return again!!! I do enjoy the fresh fruit and the freshly squeezed orange juice, and the omelet was so huge to feed at least 3 people, love you guys management and staff, thank you
Tasty, fresh, fast, and reasonably priced diner in the Gold Coast? Yes, please! This is a rare find in the area, especially because they open early. We ordered some simple plates and were very happy all around. The coffee is okay but it will definitely get things moving so don't go too far from a bathroom. I think the only thing I would do differently is try a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice.

All are welcome, this is a family restaurant that won't break the bank.
What an amazing restaurant! We got in at about 8 am and were seated right away (party of 2). Someone came around and gave us coffee and water immediately and a server came to take our orders. I ordered the omelette (cheddar and onion) and my partner ordered eggs Benedict. The eggs Benedict came with hashbrowns and a slice of cantaloupe, which I got because my partner doesn't like it, and my omelette came with white toast and hashbrowns under it. The omelette was delicious but MASSIVE! I could only eat a bit of it. But I suggest the marmalade for the toast. They make it in house and it is lovely- was my first time eating marmalade. Highly recommend!

Went here with my family today in the morning and was discriminated felt uncomfortable. We were a group of Mexicans Latinos and felt very uncomfortable with the service coming from our own community that was working there. Will never go back there!!! If you are Latino do not support the service and business. Waitress barely helped us also Latino we saw her help the white people. We brought good and hardworking business looking forward to enjoy the time there and was a big disappointment with the service. I will take my money elsewhere were I will be treated equally next time!

I didn’t love the decor, but the service and food were more than wonderful. I did not get our server’s name, but he was attentive and caring. We ordered one waffle for the table. He brought it to the table and offered to cut it for us. We thought it was strange and did not want to put him out, but he insisted. He was so happy to do it as it reminded him of a previous job. We felt like royalty! The portions were extremely large. The juice was fresh squeezed. The meal was more than breakfast, it was an experience.

The outside dining option was nice. We sat down and told the server to give us some time to look over the menu. She literally came by every 30 seconds to see if we were ready. Finally, tired of being badgered numerous times, we ordered from, in my opinion, a limited menu. I got one of the skillets-it was cheesy and hit the spot, although nothing special. He got the corned beef, again, nothing special. We really wanted to like this restaurant because we were in town for a few days and wanted to stay away from "chains" and support local. Maybe lunch would be better?

Our visit to the Tempo Cafe for brunch was an absolute treat! We both had Scrambler Skillets - one Poor Man's and one with ham, mushrooms and cheese. Each portion was easily two meals! All of the staff were friendly, but our waiter, Forti, was an absolute gem of a human being. He was kind, friendly, attentive and made us feel like part of the family the entire time. The team knocks ir out of the park for flavor, variety, atmosphere and an all around amazing experience. We cannot wait to go back the next time we're in Chicago!!

The service was attentive, and food came quickly. I ordered coffee with the corned beef hash eggs sunny-side up. It also came with toast. Eggs were done correctly, Toast was good as were condiments. My issue is with the corned beef hash. It wasn't browned at all. It was like a mush. Corned beef hash should have various vegetables (onions, bell peppers) cooked in oil until they are browned, then cut in the corned beef, and again cook until it browns. Browning is very important. The Maillard reaction adds a lot of flavor and improves the texture/mouthfeel.

I am surprised about the fact that there are not too many cafes like this one in Chicago. Mostly because of the fair price and the food options. The food is good, fresh and tasty. The prices are fair, I paid 20 to 50% less than in other places in the same area, but the atmosfere is the best part of this place. You will always find families and groups of friends eating and having conversations with human contact. Amazing!

Fantastic! We came on a whim early on Easter morning, of all days. Open very early, no charge for street parking before 8 am (gasp!) and HUGE portions of perfectly prepared breakfast. Homemade toast, fresh-squeezed oj, homemade jam - unbelievable. This has to be the best deal in the Gold Coast!

The worst food in the whole of Chicago. They seated us at a place where the Aircon was dripping. They then seated us at a different table. Once we decided what we wanted to order we were told few items on the menu were not able . It should have been told to us when we were seated. By the time we decided again, the server was gone and came back after 10 mins. Our food arrived in 45 minutes. And the food was the worst of all. I had to ask multiple times for the missing side dishes we had ordered. I would never recommend this place.

It is a great place to have breakfast or lunch. Food tastes excellent, fast service, good service at a price for normal Chicago people, not for tourists. The place is at a walking distance from North Michigan Ave. It seems to be always busy but I never had to wait. I once ate at the counter and which I liked. You can also eat outdoors, on a patio on the sidewalk with umbrellas and outdoor heaters.

The worst breakfast experience ever. It is so embracing that this restaurant is in Chicago downtown, doent deserve to occupy the space where there are so many excellent restaurants in the area. We were waiting to order at least 15minutes, while waiting for the food to arrive for at least 1h. Every meal was so nasty, tables are dirty and the server had no respect. Food was not tasty at all. Decent, average food. Was disappointed with the food. The service is excellent and the kitchen is fast! We were able to get a seat right away after our flight around 8am. Unfortunately the food is bland, very surprised by the eggs. No way they were fresh. Hashbrown, mid. Chicken liver, okay. Pancakes, good! I heard a lot of great things, maybe we just came on a bad day or didn’t get the right items.

A good, straightforward breakfast with no frills or fuss, just solid food served in huge portions for a reasonable price. I'd definitely go back. Used to come here all the time in the 90s. Old school celebrity hang out and all night diner. You'd never know who you'd see coming in the door from a limo. Standard Chicago diner fare. Nothing special, but you can't beat it in the wee hours after the bars close. I haven't been here in 25 years+ and glad to find its still open - we stopped over today for a good meal!

This cafe changed my life. No exaggerating.do yourself a favor...GO. The owners are there nearly daily, chefs are incredible and so sensitive to guest's needs/sensitivities, and you get SO MUCH for your order. The wait staff made me want to cry they were so kind and lovely. Breakfast all day (best meal ALWAYS) and the omelettes are so life changing I went back 3 times in 2 days. I cannot wait to go back. Beaaaaautiful, serene atmosphere as well. Best local spot I've hit in Chicago.
Spent 9 nights in Chicago and was advised by the hotel staff, I would get a good breakfast here, this was an unstatement to say the least. It has a good menu. Perfect place if you are hungry anytime. I been here a few times and this time I was "early" 9pm so there wasn't much going on. I had the egg Benedict. It was ok. The potatoes were tasteless. I was served an almost cold coffee. I told them but I guess they didn't care. Probably they focus on their job when they are busy not when they have only 3 more occupied tables. I might go back.
Tempo Cafe was very busy, and it stays busy. Clearly it’s popular. The coffee was very good. The skillet could’ve been made to order better, I asked for eggs over easy and they came scrambled. The Eggs Benedict was great and made up for it. They forgot our chocolate chip pancakes, which is what knocked my rating down. 6.8/10

Quite nice place for a breakfast in a great location. I really enjoyed my friendly fast service. And my Continental breakfast was good for a reasonable price. I just wasn’t happy to see that they charged me 9$ just for one single pancake ( I ordered it as side addition for my omelette)Usually it goes by 3-5 $ extra in most of breakfast places.

Kind of old-school in the best sense. No "simple" coffee specialties like even an Americano, but the food was exceptional. Not too sweet, not greasy at all, very solid. Super busy on a Sunday morning, of course, but perfectly organized and great service. Restaurant and facilities are dated, which adds to the charm, in some ways, but I like that a place that doesn't look modern lofty for a change.
Had breakfast in here and it was amazing. The staff is really nice and the food was pretty good. Their plates are kindda big so you might wanna share with someone. They all speak Spanish so that’s a plus on their service.

Excellent portion sizes, friendly customer service, food came very quickly. We ordered the morning glory pancakes - large portion of pancakes with generous amount of fruit. Also ordered the poor man’s skillet - also a large portion, very tasty. The onions were a little undercooked so it made for some prettt strong tasting onions but other than that, it was very good.
A nice little cafe, but unfortunately the food is lacking. The corned beef hash tasted like it was from a can and the avocado toast was severely lacking in avocado. The fruit and juice, however, were extremely fresh and sweet.

The food is good! This is an awesome spot! You can have no money or little money and still get a meal! Egg sandwiches are $6!!! I ordered the scrambler. The only thing that I didn’t like was pancakes were sold separately, no upgrading the toast! Besides that I love that! I will be back
