THE MOST HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE. I’ve been taking my cat Luna to this vet clinic since we adopted her (May 2020), she got very sick after taking a anti fungal medication prescribed by them. On Thursday, November 18th, I received a call from Dr. Powers, she told me Luna wasn’t doing well and after hearing the options Luna had we decided to put her to sleep. Dr. Powers told me she wasn’t in the office but would talk to her staff to get everything ready to euthanize Luna that afternoon. When the time came to put my cat Luna down, they collected the payment, then the doctor that was putting Luna to sleep told us that it was going to be quick. The doctor administered the meds and nothing happened, Luna was still awake, then she said that maybe the IV wasn’t placed correctly and leaves the room, comes back saying that she wasn’t aware that Dr. Powers wrote on Luna’s notes that the IV wasn’t working and the medication was going in between her skin and veins. She grabs Luna’s other leg and the nurse starts shaving it, Luna got scared when she heard the clippers and wanted to get up but couldn’t because the medication was starting to paralyze her. I tried calming Luna but she was scared. When the nurse tried to place an IV, her leg starting turning purple and getting swollen, then they tried the other leg and the same thing happened! The doctor tells us “see how her veins are, it is because she is very sick, let me try to get another vein”. At that point my husband lost it and told them to leave Luna alone. After 45 minutes of torture, they took Luna to the back to inject the meds directly to her heart. They had no idea what they were doing, no idea how to handle the situation, and obviously they had no communication as according to the doctor the notes stated Luna’s IV was not working. The next day I got a voicemail from Dr. Powers apologizing and offering to pay for the cremation (which is $110). That is the compensation she thinks we deserve for going through what we went through. Luna was treated like a rag doll. I will never forget Luna’s eyes, how she was looking at me in distress, trying to get up because she was scared. We decided to euthanize Luna because we didn’t want her suffering and wanted her to go peacefully. The outcome was the opposite. We are heartbroken. I hope my review helps others not to go through what we did.

If I can give zero stars, I would. I took my perfectly happy, healthy parakeet in for a beak and nail trim. The Vet handled her very roughly and when she clipped her back claw, my parakeet screamed and flew off. When we got her back, the claw was completely gone and the toe was bleeding. She put some bleed stop on there and said it will be fine. Fast forward about a week and a half, my bird is refusing to put weight on her foot and can't bend it. I called the vet to ask what we should do, and got the reply that it will take some time to heal and grow back. This week, she was still not putting weight on her foot, so I scheduled another appointment. We went in, and since I didn't want the doctor to handle her roughly again, I took her out ( she is hand trained). The Vet examined her and prescribed antibiotics and pain meds. When I get to the front desk, they charge me for the meds, which is fine, and another office visit. At this point I was upset, since the only reason we came in was as a direct result of the Vet’s previous treatment/action. I asked the secretary if we can wave the office visit and she took a moment to go back and ask the vet. Next thing I know the Vet storms out, saying; " you know it was the birds fault right, not mine right, the bird is the one who caused that to happen" I was stunned, never in my life have I seen that level of unprofessionalism. She proceeds to chastise me for taking my bird out of the carrier ( even though the time she was injured I did not take her out). I decided at that point. That I have lost all faith in the Vet’s ability to properly treat my animal and left without the meds. I will never come back. I will find someone else to care for my bird. Awful vet! No accountability.

The experience that we had this time was just horrible. I trusted them with my birds lives for years, but this visit we had one of our cockatiels who was very clearly unwell in a major way, even novice bird owners would recognize that Bernie was very near death. She looked at him briefly, weighed him, and left the room. When she came back she said she was prescribing him antibiotics, then left. When she came back again, I asked her what she thought the problem was. This is the part that makes me sick. She picked him up and spun him around like some item at a thrift store, looking down her nose she said he is suffering from a minor bacterial infection. This was very clearly not the case because Bernie succumbed to his symptoms and died the next day. ANY competent avian vet would have known the situation was critical, many bird owners even less experienced would have recognized that this was not just a little infection. Zero services were offered, zero instructions, and zero sense of urgency was expressed. Either this person knew he was going to die and saved herself the trouble of breaking the news, or she simply is not competent enough to know any better, whichever the case, she is not fit to be looking after your birds, or any other pet for that matter. If there was any way to save Bernie, we would not have known because the vet just did not seem to care.

The manager, Georgia, was very rude and inconsiderate towards us when it came to paying our bill. Our card had been deactivated without our knowledge, so we offered to pay it via bill (mail) only to be told “We don’t do billing.” Georgia also told us “I’ve been in the business 30 years, I hear excuses all the time.” She also accused us of fraud and intent to avoid payment (which was false as we had no idea our finances were affected). We offered to go home and get cash to cover our finances, but were told that they would press criminal charges if we attempted to. Georgia then told us they would keep our dog in their facility until we payed (which is illegal). Georgia told us to go to our bank and withdraw cash using ID. We informed her that all BofA banks were closed and therefore that wasn’t an option either. She did not believe us and put us on hold while she called the bank herself to see if we were honest. We were being as cooperative as we could with our unforeseen financial circumstances only to be met with rudeness, attitude, and an unwelcoming experience. At times I had trouble believing I was speaking with the manager as she was cold, inconsiderate and snide. I encourage others to avoid their facility, their unkind demeanor speaks volumes.

Won’t go back. Took our new baby macaw for his first vet appt. We give 3 stars solely based on the office female being such a gem, professional and kind with a smile on her face. Definitely a great job being the face of the business. However, we were very unhappy with the female vet, who didn’t greet us with ‘hello’ or ‘how y’all doing’, but instead hurried in, asking only ‘What we purchased our bird for’! She rushed in and out, didn’t make us feel welcome and force-fed(syringe) our baby with food that appeared too hot (I did see the ‘heat smoke’). Possibly why he DID NOT like it. This ‘vet’ seemingly rushed through his assessment and was unfriendly. I think she would benefit from classes on communication and learning basic people skills. It seemed as if she did not like birds. Suggestion: if you don’t like them, don't treat them (simple solution and best for the animals who sense frustration and unkind people). Even my 12 year old child asked what was wrong with her!!!! Professionalism should always include kindness and respect. We are responsible pet owners who love our Dog/cat/bunny vet. We have never met an animal person we didn't like, this is the first one. We will NEVER go back.

I went here to take my baby lovebird to get seen and as a new bird mom I absolutely love this place. I was confused getting here initially because my gps led me to McAllisters. The desk lady was so nice to stay on the phone with me, and tried to guide me,and even went outside to wave me down. I thought that was so very kind of her! As for Dr. Powers she is absolutely compassionate and very knowledgeable about what she does. She even gave me a sample of bird pellets for my bird. I plan to register/move my doggies here to get care when needed. They even called me the next day after Rileys exam to see how we were. I rarely ever got that at the vet im at now. I also like the online pet portal where you can even upload up to 4 pictures of your babies ♡ and request appointments (1st, 2nd,and 3rd choice). I didn't ever feel rushed here they take their time and answer any questions you might have. Thank you to the staff and Dr. Powers! You just gained another fur family ♡ you'll soon get to meet Dewey and Kimmy.

This is my favorite vet to go to in the city of San Antonio. Dr. Powers treats exotic pets. I have taken all three of my rabbits here to get sprayed/neutered. Dr. Powers is very experienced. Her staff is so friendly, most of her staff members have been working at this clinic for years so I feel very comfortable with them. There is no wait time here. The most I’ve ever had to wait was maybe five minutes. They do require appointments and you can make an appointment by calling their clinic number. It does cost a bit more to bring your pets here. But I think it’s worth it because they do provide the best care. It’s also very clean and sanitary. They always provide me with the best advice and the whole team has good intentions. If you live in San Antonio and you have pet rabbits. I highly recommend Ten West. I refuse to go to any other clinic because I love this one so much.

STAY AWAY from this clinic, and from this doctor!! I don’t usually give bad reviews, but after the horrible experience I had in this clinic, I have to warn other people! My African Grey parrot had a head injury, so I brought him to this clinic. Not for a second did she show any sign of compassion! She was so unfriendly, and uncaring! Me, and my husband were heartbroken, and not a word of sympathy, and basically told us that these birds are fragile, and it’s common, there are tissues over there, and left the room! WOW! I should have taken him to another clinic, and get a second opinion, but I was numb from the emotional pain, and was devastated that I couldn’t think clearly! I would strongly advise to stay the hell away from this clinic, and Dr Powers!! I give 1 star, only because I don’t have the option to give zero!!

Doctor prescribes my 5 year old cat, with a chronic painful urinary issue, a human strength psychotropic drug then a couple days later tells me the "drug has not been approved for use in cats". This drug seemed to have fundamentally changed my cat. Took away his ability to function. Took away his appetite. Took away his desire to drink water. He can barely move. So, instead of getting over his most recent bout of the urinary issue he is now instead clinging to life. I'm amazed that this vet has not been sued into oblivion already. **UPDATE** My cat just went into cardiac arrest at a local emergency clinic. Thankfully they were able to quickly revive him. It appears he was blocked and Dr. Powers missed this. Even though I was charged a $50 examination fee just 4 days ago. Stay the hell away from this vet.

Dr. Powers came highly recommended to me by a co-worker and I have stayed with Ten West Clinic for over 7 years. I now have 2 papillons, and have been through numerous ailments and a couple knee surgeries with my older dog. Dr. Powers and her staff are deeply compassionate and educated about their profession and give you the best quality of care possible. The prices are reasonable, but it is the quality of their care and compassion that far exceeds my expectations. Whenever I have had a serious ailment with one of my pets, they have seen us in a timely manner and they always follow-up with you to make sure your pet is doing better the next day. They are also open late and on Saturdays, which is very convenient for those who work during the week. I plan to stay with Ten West for the life of my pets!

Great vet hospital. Scarlet at the front desk is always willing to take time to give us detailed pricing on procedures/tests, as well as send us paperwork if we need it. Even if shes busy. We trust Dr. Powers' medical opinion with our little pack. Before her, it always seemed like we were paying high prices at other vets to roll dice on one of many doctors at a vet who didnt know our dogs. Shes also one of the first doctors who was comfortable around our pit bull and didn't see her as an aggressive dog due to her breed. Pricing at this vet is also very reasonable. Many vets in SA upcharged ridiculous amounts for every little thing. I'm glad we found Ten West, we will continue to come here as long as we can.

My bunny Jeoffrey recently got his neutering done here. Up until I picked him up from his appointment I was extremely worried about how my lil bun was doing in his surgery. Whenever I called the days leading up to express my concerns, the staff could not be anymore supportive to me. They were extremely knowledgeable and were able to answer all of my questions with sincere compassion. Picking up my bunny after surgery they told me everything to do to help with his recovery. Jeff is perfect and is feeling great after being taken care with so much love from this animal hospital. I recommend for anyone to come here to get their bunnies fixed!

My 5 month old AKC PUPPY was in the back yard for 30 minutes for potty break.. unbeknownst to me, my lawn-mowering men arrived and left during that period of time as well. There is a large gate the previous owner built for his RV and the lawnmower service is using it… but not securing it in the same fashion they find it ! They were in a hurry, and didn’t latch the gate or close the bottom two gates and left an 7” opening! My puppy was missing from 11am until 8pm on August 24, 2023. When I notified the lawn service, I was told…”I don’t know what I can do about it “!!! I told the young man to notify his supervisor… and I have heard ZERO!!

My experiences with Ten West Vet have been nothing but professional, courteous, kind, and competent. Originally I had a rabbit whom I couldn’t save from a broken leg, but Dr. Powers and her staff helped me keep him out of pain as long as possible. Now I have a kitten I just rescued who had fleas and three different types of parasites internally. They took care of the fleas and the parasites in about an hour, which is amazing!! I have been treated with patience and kindness by every member of the staff, and my kitten left purring today. Thanks very much to everyone at Ten West Vet!!

Years ago my green cheeck conure broke its leg and they put a little bird style cast and he healed up nicely thanks to them they are the best. Also I would take him in every few weeks for a beak trim he would always let it grow crooked and they would fix him up fast .. I miss that bird so much his name was black dog lol. And now we adopted a new b.g macaw we already made our first appointment We will only use this vet for our birds we moved further away but we will travel here as we do trust this office . Our new birds name is Robert. Lol

I medically boarded my diabetic cat for a week during the summer. They did their due diligence and checked her blood daily prior to administering any insulin. My cat’s levels were normal every day and she did not need any insulin during her stay. I was a very worried and called everyday and the reception and vet tech were understanding and responsive. I even got to talk to the vet. They were also reasonably priced for medical boarding. I recommend this vet.

My Guinea pig has been sick for about a month and after I took him to the emergency pet clinic and a nearby animal hospital nobody could give me an answer to what was wrong with him. I tried Ten West as a last hope and Dr.Powers did more for my piggy in ten minutes than what those other two places did! I definitely recommend this place for any sick animal in need of help and another great thing is that they specialize in exotics!

Dr. Powers has seen several species of mine and I’ve never had to ask myself if I’ve been waiting a long time to be seen or taken care of. As a one doctor practice, Dr. powers makes strides in helping all the different creatures we keep in our community. I've been going here for a few years now and all of my experiences have been good. I have dogs and cats that see Dr. Powers and I have boarded my pets there. Dr. Powers and the staff are friendly and very accommodating in my experience. Dr. Powers takes time with me when I bring my pets in if there is an issue or health concern. I have and will continue to recommend this vet to family and friends.

I have been taking my conure's Billy and Cherry to Dr. Powers. Recently my family and I became dog owners. The staff and Dr. Powers are all so incredibly kind and take the time to explain everything to you. You can tell they love their job and all the animals that come through their doors. My boxers love the staff. I wouldn't take my birds or Mya and Memphis any where else!

We're wonderful. They know what they're doing, and are very sweet. They are an amazing vet for rats! They took great care of my rats, even when one of them had to be put down, they let me spend as much time as I needed with her and let me hold her til she fell asleep. I will definitely be coming here whenever my other rats get sick. Thank you for helping my ratties.

Ten West Bird & Animal Hospital is a trusted and excellent practice. My pets's needs as well as my education regarding my pets, are met above and beyond my expectations. They have been with us through all aspects of life and helped us with the silly things (like spider eating) to end of life care. I highly recommend Dr. Powers and her staff to all with pet needs.

We brought in my grandfathers little yellow canary to be seen. Unfortunately he had gotten worse fairly quickly and the attention and care that was shown to us and him was truly genuine and kind. We thank the vet and staff for such care of our tweet tweet. We got to bring him home to be with us as he passed. Thank you again. We truly appreciate all the kindness.

Ten West staff are very professional and really care for animals. We have brought our two dogs and rabbit here and they have been very good at answering our questions and giving sound advice. They were recommended to us for follow-up by a pet ER when we had to take one of our dogs for emergency care. We are so glad they did!

This place is wonderful. They treat your pets like they are their own, and they take care of you. My pup had to have some extensive dental work done, and the recovery was so quick it was insane. My dog was never once fearful of coming back to this place, even after her surgery. I’m so glad I found a vet this great.

Terrible service I asked for an estimate never received one then they ran 4 tests without telling me just to tell me NOTHING and charged me a full bill then I found out my dog had a parasite from a separate vet so they didn’t even diagnose the correct issue. Do not recommend at all waste of time money and energy.

Easy to find and not busy when I went. The building was clean with friendly service and the vet seemed knowledgeable of my rats. I also felt comfortable knowing that the Vets Tech had once owned some rats; not that I was uncomfortable in the first place, just very wary of people in general handling my pet rats.

These guys were BEYOND AMAZING!!! Their prices were extremely reasonable, the team was very welcoming, friendly and professional, and the Doctor was so understanding and even let me listen to my little "Stella's" heartbeat!!! It was such a beautiful moment. I will never bring my chickens anywhere else!!

I've been taking my cat here for over a year. I called around to many different vet offices when I first got her to do price comparison. The staff is very kind and easily explains every procedure. The cost has always been reasonable and the vet is very knowledgeable. I would absolutely recommend them.

Dr.Powers did an amazing job of educating me about my bird and made his visit as stress free as possible! The training tech did an awesome job as well in handling Poncho, communicating with me , and making my visit go as smooth as possible. I will be coming here for all of my avian needs! :)

The vet techs are very nice. One if them sings to my doggo as she gets very nervous in these situations. She always comes back in a good mood and I've never had trouble scheduling an appointment. Will be taking my doggo here for all future appointments. Really appreciate everything they do.

Today was my “Queenie’s” first visit to Dr. Powers. I am very impressed with the doctor and her staff. She addressed all my concerns, removed a blood feather, gave Queenie a “mani,” and drew her blood - all for a very reasonable price. I’m so happy to add her to “Queenies” flock! …

The staff was very friendly! They were able to squeeze me in last minute and provided me with great service. The vet and tech were awesome! They treated Theo well and gave me some helpful tips for his anxiety. They will definitely be our go to vet as long as we are in San Antonio.

I called because I had question about my puppy and his allergens to his food. And was provided helpful information amongst other things & advise me things to look for. The person who answered was very polite and knowledgeable on the subject we talked about. Thank you R!

Dr. Powers has treated my dog, Bailey like her child. The staff has always been very loving and caring of him. He is a rescue and had a lot wrong with his hip when I got him. Dr. Powers referred me to wonderful doctors for his surgery and water PT. Thank you Dr. Powers.

I have been taking my pets here for almost 20 years! The vets are careing and only want what is best for your animals. I can always trust that all of my pets will be well taken care for and loved in their time of need. I only wish human doctors were this compassionate.

Was so sad to move from our regular vet, BUT found an amazing vet here! Dr. Powers is amazing! She treated our Bunnikins so well! Looking forward to bringing our other fur babies! Funny fact: she’s allergic to bunnies! But loves them and treats them!

Staff was nice over the phone and in person. They came outside to my car and picked up my bird Sherman ( cockertiel). He got his nails trimmed, beak examined and wings clipped all for $39. Took about 15-20 mins. I'm very pleased, will be back

They just want to get you in and out . They don’t bring enough genuine service . Seems like they just want you in and out and to come back in a week to squeeze more money out of you . Just a bunch of fake smiles and laughs and here’s a bill

Dr. Powers was recommended to me by a coworker. She explained how Dr. Powers cared for her pugs for years. I took my pup and loved the care she offered. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend them!

Very experienced and knowledgeable for our pets including exotics - we’ve brought our dog, cat, bearded dragon, rats, and guinea pigs. Very easy to make appts. Has some late hours which most vet offices don’t do.

Takes great care of my all my animals! (Chihuahua, cats, black-bellied whistling duck, etc.) They also do boarding. Their service is always prompt and thorough. Schedule an appointment as they are quite popular.

I’m very happy with Dr.Powers and her staff. They are helpful and attentive to my pets needs and do not try to up sell their services. They are direct and to the point. They are very good and kind to my dogs.

They took very good care of my cockatiel Ricky he was a baby and came with a respiratory infection and after the care and meds my baby has been healthy and thriving for 2 plus years now.

They work curbside, at the moment. Staff is very friendly and efficient in getting exams done in an orderly and quick fashion. Great place to take your sugar gliders, if you have any.

Dad's dog really gets excited going to this Veterinary. The Dr. And Team like him and must really be good to him. His demeanor says it all. The wonder dog Happy gives you 5 stars.

Dr. Powers is the most honest and trustworthy veterinarian I’ve ever dealt with. We’re so glad we found Ten West by chance, and will go nowhere else as long as she is practicing!

DO NOT TRUST THEM WITH YOUR BIRDS! The vet misdiagnosed my young cockatiel with a small bacterial infection. He died the next day on antibiotics she prescribed.
