I visited for the first time on June 21, 2022, and I will definitely be going back! Let me preface this review by saying that I'm a Le Cordon Bleu chef with a special interest in baking, so, for what it's worth, I know my bread. There was a huge selection of fresh, beautiful, individually wrapped buns, pastries, and breads, sweet and savory. Everything I got was absolutely delicious - a cream filled bread sprinkled with fresh coconut shreds, a custard bun, and something resembling a kolache- a bun with a hot dog inside. The latter sounds very plain, but it was delicious!! The hot dog was good, but the bread on the outside was a delicious, fresh, sweet brioche-style egg bread. It was simply exquisite!! If they have loaves of brioche, I am in trouble. To top it all off, the cashier was a wonderfully sweet lady who smiled and recognized that it was my first time there. She was an absolute joy to interact with. I will definitely be returning- I'm already planning what I will be trying next time I go. It's definitely worth the trip!!

Fresh, quality, tasty baked goods. Sorry many choices when we came—over two dozen different yummies on display. When you walk in you can smell how clean it is!! Our family favorites are moist coconut cake buns, delicate thin almond sesame cookies, brownies, cupcakes, siopao buns, and if you’re western and want to try new things the taro bun and Panday cakes are delicious must-tries! This mom and pop bakery focuses on quality baked goods. They have no time to label each of the carefully packaged pieces, which just tells me that good baking is their foremost priority and not marketing. We are becoming regular customers, coming after our biweekly visits to MT Market for special ingredients. Yesterday our family ate all the goodies so quickly that we forgot to take pictures for sharing. Alice, one of the women there has a strong yet charming personality, encouraging us to try new things. We love her. Discover your favorites at this unique family-owned bakery that deserves success and prosperity.

I love going to Texas Bakery whenever I get my grocery shopping done! Their onion/pork floss rolls are the best. I usually try whatever they have at the register/table in the middle of the store and it's never been a miss. I tried their red bean sesame balls recently and they were amazing! I normally don't like them for being too sweet/greasy, but these were not too sweet and large enough to balance out the grease (they're tennis ball sized for reference). Onto the birthday cake. I thought they had more options on the door at one point but maybe they downsized recently. It's a simple cake without frills but I thought it was reasonably priced for 8 inches. It's a little short at first glance but seeing it packed with fresh strawberries in the center I didn't really mind it. The best part for my boyfriend and me is that both cake and cream were lightly sweetened and is complemented by the fresh tartness of the strawberries. Goes great with coffee too!

This was such a treat for my oldest son and I. I really wish I had taken photos. We tried an authentic rice dumpling with a quail egg inside. This was something we had been wanting to try for such a long time. The staff was supper sweet, and everything was so clean. They had a few tables and chairs to sit and enjoy. All of the art on the walls might have been made by someone they know. We were so happy enjoying our treat, that I didn't ask. Would like to go again, just to take more photos to share with you guys. The atmosphere was just so warm and calm, that we forgot about everything else. Haha

This bakery offers various types of Taiwanese-style sweet and savory pastries that are very authentic, reminding me of my childhood! The variety is amazing, and I'm sure you can find something you like here. The prices are unbeatable! They also have pork buns infused with Vietnamese style, including boiled egg and sausage inside.

I always buy bread from here when I’m in the area. It’s a mom and pop shop, they sell pastries, cakes, soy milk, egg tarts, toast, loaves of bread. I love getting the steamed bao with meat and egg inside, the raisin toast, the hot dog bun. We love coming here. It’s a $15 minimum to swipe your credit card. I made avocado toast from the raisan bread loaf I bought… so good.

This is like a miniture version of 85 bakery. Friendly staff. Owner is Chinese. There are many good things in the store if you are open to try like the tradition chinese chives pancake (like a large dumpling), curry puff, and huge baos. There are lots of random bakery not like the typical overly sweet cupcake or cake. I always stop by when I am in the area.

The Special bánh mì is just like the cold cuts banh mi you find in Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City. Would love to try the rest but we’ve gotten that one every time because it’s great. Their bread is fresh, flaky and a little crunchy on the outside and soft and airy on the inside just like in Vietnam. We have tried every banh mi place in the plaza and this one’s our favorite. The family that runs the place are also some of the nicest, friendliest people you’ll ever meet.

We often visit the Chinatown market. We thought we would try this bakery and happy we did. Delicious assortment of Vietnamese and Chinese sweets and breads. As we were not familiar with the types of sweets, we asked the woman/owner and she googled voice translated to explain what we were buying. She was too sweet. We ended up with some delicious treats. It was also very reasonably priced as well. We will be trying it again soon.

  • Jenny

They have new owners and a new menu. I ordered a pandan birthday cake from them and it was a hit - the 10" cake was gone in about 30 minutes. The baker did an exceptional job baking and decorating. I also tried the bao with the quail egg and that was very, very good as well. The filling was nicely seasoned and the outer bao was soft and chewy. Exactly how a bao should taste like. Will order again from them in the future.

This review will be short and simple. The way I would sum up this bakery is that the quality is fantastic, the service is very good and friendly, the pricing is not a budget option. Can you find cheaper options that offer within the same quality range? Yes. But knowing ahead that you are not going with a budget option, this is still a good choice depending on what you are looking for.

Love love LOVE this place! They sell very delicious food. Especially their egg and ham buns and rice dumplings. They’re very nice and caring people. Their place is very clean as well! Don’t mind driving 2 hours to buy delicious Asian food. Am lucky of finding this place!!! ✨ I do recommend going to this joint if your looking for some delicious food. You won’t regret it!

  • Lawrence Tsai

Family and I have been visiting this bakery for the past few years. Mom and pop shop that is always friendly. The quality of their bread and baked goods is lightyears ahead of what you will find in big chains that use commercial kitchens like 85C. Support your local business and buy directly from them vs. from MT and other competitors in town.

Unlike many other Asian bakeries in Austin, this little shop sits in a corner in China Town, though dark inside in general the breads are okay, not as fresh. The curry beef pastry is the one I regretted, very salty, no beef taste at all, the salt even killed the curry flavor. I'd be very careful next time, if any, when selecting my choices.

The food here is okay but prices and portions are ridiculous. We recently saw their advertising for BanhMi on FB so we decided to give them a try. We both got Special Banh Mi. Nothing special about it but we paid more than $6 each for just a tiny size of BanhMi and small amount of meat. We rather go to Baguette House next door for a better deal.

  • Melissa A Martinez

First time trying the fresh baked goods here and they were delicious. They had a variety at very reasonable prices. Our favorite were the coconut little bread cakes. We will definitely be back and get more than one of our favorites!

The custard buns are my absolute FAV thing there! My roommate and I are kiiinda hooked on 'em... About to head over right now and grab some to bring to her, since she got her own place and isn't close to Texas Bakery any more! Plus... Their little shaped bread animals are so cute... BREAD CRAAAABS! <3

In the super China shopping center. Tucked away in the corner but a treat. French and Vietnamese inspired cakes and pastries. Some very authentic Vietnamese puddings, cakes. However, the French cream puffs, cookies and filled buns will delight those not familiar with some flavors

  • Rick C

Vegetarians beware! Unfortunately you can't trust the signage nor the word of the shopkeepers on the contents of their savory items or zongzi. :( Something that lists no meat and is confirmed as vegetarian by the cashier will often have chunks of sausage or pork in it.

  • Kelly L

I grew up eating Asian pastries from NYC and Philly and this is the only place I've found so far that comes closest in flavor. I've only be in twice but never had anything bad from them yet! My partner (not Asian) also approves of their pastries.

I'll give this place 5 stars because the owner was fantastic! He was so kind, sweet, and genuinely appreciated my business. Also, those sweet buns are delicious! I bought one, ate it by the time I got back to my car, and turned around to buy TWO MORE. (I had Taro buns)

  • K L (Kite)

I just found out that I like taro, durian and mung bean, all thanks to this place and the sweet owner! She happens to also have her own Vietnamese cooking show! Super sweet and well educated in food! Great stuff! Ming bean milk is delicious!

  • Sunny Wong

We’ll priced, they had some Cantonese style baked goods (pineapple bun) . I couldn’t find any in 99 Ranch. The small shop vibe was also very nostalgic for me . The lady was pretty nice , trying to help my non Chinese speaking friend out .

The pastries are delicious, soft, fluffy and for a great price. I'm not sure, but it seems that pastries are daily made. Great for anyone who may not like very sweet pastries, they also have a few savory options as well.

My wife and I are both Vietnamese, she was native born Vietnam and the pastries are exactly how she had them back home. Perfect for those who are homesick, or want authentic Vietnamese desserts.

  • Fluffer Buns

My favorite item here is the Banh Bao. It's super yummy and plump. The meat is seasoned beautifully, and the dough is astoundingly fluffy. A great item for lunch, with a very reasonable price.

  • Liz Sutherland

Really good priced banh mi, mainly pork options but I saw they just added a chicken one that looks good too. They also have durian crepe that I really like and pandan jelly for dessert lovers.

  • Wini G

Bad Customer service, I went to ask for a simple wedding cake something small just like a 2 layer cake completely said no! So rude! Didn't even give me options

  • Steve Tong

Been buying pastries here for years. Some might prefer 85c, but I like the pastries here and they are fresh and priced reasonably. Also I prefer local bakery.

  • Rubi McLaughlin

This small little bakery packs BIG flavors into their sweet and savory treats! Everything we got was delicious especially the pineapple cookies and pork bun!
