"I’ve been to this coffee shop about 4-5 times and every single time my order has been wrong"
Beware of this place !!! I would never purchase from this coffee shop ever again . The women manager there is very rude, I believe her name is (aja ) or something to that nature .Upon walking in I ordered a bagel with butter toasted with the gentleman behind the counter . She happened to be sitting down in a chair as if she shouldn’t be behind the counter to assist customers . I proceeded to the counter to pay, in which she then proceeded to get out of her chair to assist . After paying I asked for a cup with ice , she rudely said “wait” . It prompted me to say “what is the attitude for” . I waited patiently however, I noticed she proceeded to give me a small cup with ice water when I just asked for a cup of ice. I politely asked if I could have a cup with a lid and I only wanted ice . Instead of showing professionalism she screamed “no I can’t do that “ . I said I don’t mind paying for it “how much “ she said “one dollar “ in which I gave. It then dawned on me that I don’t have to spend my money here if the service here is going to be bad in which I asked for my money back . I have been to this shop before and have never experienced such disgust . Not to mention I am 8 months pregnant and was asking for ice to hydrate myself . Shame on management!
This Easy Village coffee shop crams a lot into a relatively small space. Coffee, cakes, sandwiches, bagels, juices, smoothies, wifi and couches can all be found here along with trendy serving staff who subscribe to the 'wearing hats indoors' trend that is so popular nowadays. There's plenty of seating but that doesn't make it easy to find somewhere as the place us usually crammed with laptop-toting students - so much so that there are signs on several tables enforcing a no-laptop zone! Coffee is a selection of espresso and drip varieties and not bad, juices and smoothies are varied and reasonably priced for the area. Food is a little overpriced in my opinion but interestingly they often sell the leftover sandwiches from the day before for 50% off. My favourite part about visiting The Bean though is that it's dog friendly. I like nothing more than dog-watching while sipping my "Hangover Helper" juice.
Absolutely love this place! Been coming here over 10 years. I will travel down from way uptown just for an açaí bowl; the açaí bowls are incredible! Much better than other places. Personally love the coconut bowl called The Ship. Chocolatey, peanut buttery, coconutty, dairy free deliciousness! So many delectable choices when it comes to smoothies, açaí bowls, coffee drinks, frozen drinks, etc. Another excellent part of coming here is that there are always so many free tables and places to sit. The only negative would be the a/c, which is a bit too cold, especially considering people are going to be consuming cold items for the most part. But, that’s certainly not enough to keep me away.

The unfriendliness of the service staff during ordering was striking from the very beginning. There were three girls behind the bar who were moving and doing something, with such a face as if they were doing me a huge favor by taking my order. One of them was the closest to us, visitors, showing unshaven armpits under her arms with hair sticking together from sweat... It was all together disgusting, disgusting and put me in a stupor, as it was the most disgusting service in all the years of living in New York. .... And I just returned from a vacation in Europe and wanted to drink coffee "at home"... the coffee turned out to be dirty-colored water with milk, although I ordered black. I never finished it because it tasted terrible, despite the milk ((
I’ve been to this coffee shop about 4-5 times and every single time my order has been wrong. Today I asked for an iced americano. At first I was given a hot americano. Then I said I had asked for a cold americano. It was mixed with faucet water not filtered. I could clearly see there no filter. They kid working the counter said the filter was in the wall. You could clearly see it wasn’t. I paid 5.15 for brown water literally. I couldn’t drink it. The kid at the counter had a bad attitude. My experience at this coffee shop had been horrible. I will not give this shop another try. It’s horrible all the way around.

I like the Bean, especially because of friendly staff and affordable prices. Coffee here is average, and you can pick many vegetarian options. It's one of my favorite breakfasts - bagel with cream cheese and salmon. Unfortunately, last time when I tried it, bread was like a stone, and it was impossible to bite it. I'm not sure if it is because of the kind of bagel or because it was from yesterday, but could you please change a bagel for it softer version?

Great coffee and wifi (no password required) and there are plenty of power outlets. It's a great hangout spot, though this place can get crowded on weekends (good luck getting a seat!). Good value if you order the coffee through CUPS. There are some benches outside too. The restroom is clean as well. They serve pastries and more, and although I have not tried them yet, they look good judging from the display. PAYMENT and REWARDS: They accept cash, credit, store gift card, LevelUp, PayPal, and CUPS credit. They also participate in the Perka rewards program (Buy 10 coffees, get the 11th one free). Final Grade: B (5*=A, 4*=B, etc)
I always want to like this place more than I do. I love how the huge windows make the place feel larger and let in plenty of light. I love the extensive menu of drinks and food that are both vegetarian and vegan friendly. I love the funky East Village vibe. What I don't love is that a ton of the seats are uncomfortable. There aren't many outlets, even in areas dedicated to laptop use. And despite seeming big and airy, the place is actually pretty small, thus often crowded. If you're dropping in for food or coffee, the Bean is a great spot. If you need somewhere to sit and chill and get some work done, it's not so great a spot.
Their drinks were not flavorful, not sure if it was just this particular day but the iced matcha was super bitter (adding sugar did not help at all) & their hot chocolate was super diluted... The salmon cream cheese bagel barely had cream cheese and just a small portion of salmon crammed in the front of the bagel, mostly just eating the bagel bread at this point. Kind of overpriced for bland food. Other than that its a good spot to study as there's a lot of outlets in the middle of the cafe. There's a 2 hour wifi limit and can be replenished by purchasing more items (receipt has wifi codes).
Good coffee, but really rude employees at 2nd ave shop, and a great deal of tension. I asked very nicely if they could please turn the music down (so LOUD. It’s a coffee shop, not a bar.) Woman rolled her eyes at her coworker and told me I should go sit outside. She turned it down for a little bit then back up again. Acted like a kid. Kind of odd and really irritating. First employee then came over to my table and told me that I needed to order something else or leave. I had just finished a brownie. (There were several open seats). Woman told me I was annoying as I left...weird vibe.
Coffee was just ok, Dough donut was old (however, they are still the best IMO) and bathroom was beyond disgusting. When I returned the ridiculous large key to the staff & told them the status of the bathroom (and broken toilet) she just shrugged her shoulders & said "yeah, it's been that way". I stood there in awe of her response, but she just took the large dirty key from me & turned to continue making a drink for a customer (WITHOUT washing her hands!!) Staff doesn't seem to actually care about the guests or the business. Obviously, very poor management.
At the top of my favorite places to get coffee lists. The thing I appreciate the most is the designated tables for no technology use. There are a few tables where you can't use your laptop or phone, and they encourage you sit and read a book or talk to a friend. I know this frustrated some people but I really like it and I'm sure there are others that do as well. The best on the menu is their chai latte, so creamy and perfectly spiced. They sell donuts from doughnut plant (which is the best place for donuts) and the baristas are alway super nice and helpful.
Went in at 9:00PM. Customers were still in the place I asked if we could just get coffee since it was raining outside and we were freezing. I was told they were closed. The coffee had not even been emptied it would have taken 1 minute. I am in customer service industry and would never have asked for something that takes actual prep and makes a mess just wanted coffee poured into a cup. Above it all the employee was just rude about it. Horrible experience a shame because we thought the place looked really cute and will be in the area often.
What a nice place. Been impressed of this coffeeshop with a local vibe. Quick and friendly service, nice atmosphere with good music and as a visitor from Germany I mostly appreciate the blasting air-con that we don't have anywhere. Such a refreshing visit, loved the table with the unique storefront pictures by James& Karla. Classic NY. Must comeback to try the unique drinks like Mona Lisa & co.

The Bean serves a wide variety of foods & drinks. Sandwiches, salads, pastries, juices, tea, & of course coffee. The atmosphere inside is very relaxed which, to me, feels better than being inside a Starbucks. With the free Wi-Fi, this is a great place to kill some time or hang with a friend on one of the couches for some conversation. I'm not much of a coffee drinker, but the coffee I had was below average. It tasted more burnt than flavorful. It's a nice place to go to, if in the area, but I'll try a juice next time.
The Bean markets itself as an independent coffee shop, however I would argue that it is more of an intermediate between independent and a chain, like Starbucks. Its atmosphere is more like an independent shop, but unlike a smaller coffee place, the Bean serves a wide array of coffees, teas, juices, food, etc. This makes it more commercialized, and therefore the quality is not as good (but still better than big chains). Very cute place to sit and work, but would not go here if you're a coffee snob.
Was in the neighborhood and decided to try this place..The customer service was horrible! The girls that were at the front looked miserable, they didn't even great me not even a smile! They were too busy texting on their phones! I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and a coffee..food was good, but customer service is very important and this place is lacking in that! I won't return, although I would have liked to! Management needs to hire people who will love their job and treat customers nicely!
I like this coffee shop- they have some of the best drip coffee to be found anywhere, it seems about as strong as Starbucks (but more flavorful) and the large coffee cup is actually a legit 20 ounces. A lot of trendy coffee shops only have 12 ounce cups these days, but at The Bean you can pick up a large coffee and reliably power through your morning.

The staff here is super obnoxious and rude, the coffee is bland and always tastes watery, the wifi always cuts is super inconsistent, clearly evident by the internet run radio always cutting in and out. This place is a poor example of a cafe. Also, don't get me started on their pathetic food selection. Super carby, sweet and unhealthy pastries in addition to overpriced bland salads and stale sandwhiches. I can't think of one positive note about this place.
Everything about the employees here is horrendous. Avoid The Bean like The Plague. When I asked for a paper bag to put my garbage in, I was pointed to the garbage can. Napkins are the cheapest you can get.

I love the Bean. I love the friendly staff with their great sense of humor. I love their cushioned seating. I love their interesting herbal teas. It's often packed, but it's packed because it's a great place to hang out and work. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a good place to have a nice long co-working session---it's not quite conducive to that. Think "I want to write or read by myself in a comfy space."
The best coffee/smoothie/bowl shop in the East Village! The Bean does it all - great coffee and food, excellent atmosphere to work, study, meet friends and even take meetings. Across all of The Bean's locations, you feel like you're in a familiar and comfortable place. Everyone who works here is very kind and helpful. Can't wait to keep visiting The Bean!

Poor management. I got sick from their pastry, and the management said-"ok, thanks for saying. We just switched a supplier and I will let the owners know." The staff had absolutely no knowledge, what the pastry was made from and recommended it as "Great". After the manager said "thanks for letting us know", he escaped and never offered at least a glass of water, I am not even talking about refund.
Decent spot to grab a coffee and not pay Starbucks prices. Coffee is not to bad and the bagels are good too. I would not say this place is amazing, though if I lived in the area I would definitely chose this as my go to for coffee and a spot to read on a Sunday. With that said if yo are passing by and need a cup, then you can;t miss here, otherwise I would not go out of your way for it.
Great coffee shop for working or hanging out for a while. They've got a printer and computer terminals to use of you need it. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because they don't have to stay mugs. That's a lot of unnecessary waste!! They're fine if you bring your own cup, and you do get a discount, but if I'm gonna go out to a cafe I like having it from a nice ceramic mug!
I had a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast and a hot tea. Both were so delicious! Also, I picked up one of their unique juice blends for my boyfriend. He loved it and said it helped pick him up for the morning. I recommend trying everything they have there. Their variety was spectacular. I was visiting the city and stopped here for breakfast, definitely a great choice!
First time I came a couple of weeks ago, this cafe was perfect! No music at all. One could actually hold a conversation. Second time today, the music was so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think! Cafes are places to congregate and communicate! No music policy will actually bring in more high value customers!

Best smoothies! Why? Full of organic veggies and fruit (your choice)--not filled with ice. *****Now I know where I can get a very nutritious, filling, delicious liquid meal and avoid brain freeze. ***** Served by very kind, caring staff too--real good, hard-working people. Open until 9 PM unlike mostly any other place that offers organic smoothies.
Bad coffee. Bad service. My Americano was mostly just hot water. Took 15 min to get it. Staff didn’t say a word to me. Just blankly stared at me when it was finally my turn to order. Not a word to me. Not even a “thank you” or “it will be right up”.

2nd Time coming here. Great croissants and other options! But this time I came by on 5/26 Morning time and there were two employees at the register. One of them greeted but as I went on to order the other employee with braids had such an attitude with a Mad face. She did not greet, thank me or smile… Poor customer service
Other then being packed and having a long line. The place has fresh pastries and great coffee. I been to their other location during lunch hours. One of the clerks I believe is new, he does not know what the different pastries are. Check out what apps they are affiliate with, sometimes they have some promotions going on.
I mostly go to coffee shops to do work, so I'm looking for a comfortable environment where I can focus. For whatever reason I didn't find The Bean to be this at all, whether it was the relatively open layout, decor, or high table I was at. I do appreciate the late hours, but wouldn't go given other late-night options.
Plenty of seating, good wifi, and a restroom - making it an ideal place to work out of. You will find a lot of NYU and other students studying/hanging here. I was especially impressed by their nutella fitzgerald - it is like the queen of nutella drinks I've tried in life. Not the healthiest choice, but a good treat!
Great coffee shop. Outlets for charging. Plenty of seating. I love coming here to finish some work or to read.

Good selection of desserts and coffee. The rice Krispies are good if not hipster overpriced. Service is good but was a bit nonchalant ambivalent friendliness. Plenty of those 'writers' squatters who hog the seats for hours and hours so good luck finding a place to sit during the peak day.
This place always puts an effort into your making your coffee or drink. The atmosphere of the place is always chill because of the bean bag chairs that they have. They great nutella lattes that taste like heaven. Whenever i go there i always get this mini pie either cherry or berry mix.

Hi excuse me. yes its me the one with the red hair here five minutes ago. My hot chocolate tasted like scraps of unused liquid mixed with the consistency of a marble. My pastry was undercooked as heck too. Either i am delusional or my meal was fully, truly crazy weird. Peace out.
The coffee is good, there are plenty of places to sit, and the food menu is surprisingly extensive. I really appreciate the vegan options, like a bagel with tofu, not to mention the vegan donuts. It’s a great place to go with a book and sit for awhile. Relaxed vibe, good music.
Coffee is soso here if ours into bolder and rich blends. The real highlight is the pastry case. They make INCREDIBLE home made Pop-tarts that stand the test of the real deal. Can’t emphasize enough how great they are. Casual 90’s coffee shop vibe, dark colors and nice staff.
Came here as it was advertised online as dog friendly. There is now a large sign on the door saying no pets. Food and coffee is okay, but should probably advertise they are no longer pet friendly as they are on almost every list of coffee shops to bring your dog in the city.
Great selection of desserts. Personal favorite: rice crispy treats in a variety of cereals! Golden Grahams, Lucky Charms, Cinn Toast Crunch...brings me right back to elementary school. Except now that I am an adult I can actually eat these! (no thanks to you, mom. lol)
Friendly staff and good coffee! If you are a student, you could get a discount Love the amenities: Wifi (with receipt or public nyc Wifi), wall plugs, plenty of indoor seating, and a bathroom.

I love the Bean and come here all the time but with the recent Covid spike I just want to let people know and bring it to the establishment's attention that the baristas here do not check for vaccine cards for indoor dining. At all. Extremely lax and dangerous.

Got an iced latte and bagel. Latte was good but not life changing. Bagel wasn’t really toasted but more like warmed up just enough to melt the butter. Other than that it was a good start to the morning. It was clean inside and out and the staff was friendly.
Low key, good coffee, and great sandwich lunch deal. Cushy benches are the best seats in the house, especially if you want to sit for a while to work or study or read or chat. Other seating leaves something to be desired, but that's really my only complaint.

Coffee is great but the service suck, everything is mad expensive, the food was too hot (microwave burrito was made of lava) and tasteless. It was right by my hotel so i went few times, the experience was the same each time. Again, good coffee.
Welcoming vibe, great coffee, and God bless their late opening hours in a post-pandemic period where most coffee shops shutter by early evening. Wish there was a place like that in my nabe!

It was a hot, muggy day. First and foremost, the customer service was excellent, friendly, and knowledgeable. Their iced coffee was strong without being muddy. They had the AC blasting, good tunes, and spacious seating inside. I left happy.
Seating can be scarce, but lots of dogs come in this Bean, so I can't complain. Service is "ehhhhh", but they have a bathroom that is always functioning. Pows and Wows of this place even out, but nonetheless I can always expect consistency.
Nice and cute - loved their old location in the east village but this spot is nice too! Love the window paintings and the aesthetic inside. can't speak to the coffee (more of a soda and tea girl myself) but I've never had a bad experience.
Lovely coffee shop. Great location, big enough to accommodate a lot of people. Free wifi, lots of places to plug in.. Which means there are lot of people camped out there for a long time. Good dessert selection if you are into that!
Coffee and bagel was okay! I was trying to get some work done but their wifi is on a two hour system so I moved halfway through my day. I also had to go into their silo pod thing for 4.99/30min bc music and blender was pretty loud.
The coffee is great, as well as the espresso drinks. However, the place is small and seating is minimal. However, in the summer the space on the inside matters little, as the benches outside provide a great people watching venue.
Classic coffee in a great place to people watch. Coffee is solid and there are outlets every where and a bathroom. Enough food to make a day of it if you’re looking to get some work done or have a marathon hang out session. More
Very cute and modern, yet, quaint coffeeshop located on the corner right off of 2nd. Standard coffee prices. Animal friendly. They have a jar of doggy treats. Also has a lovely bench with cushions for you to sit and get comfy.
I love The Bean. The coffee and food are great, very inviting coffee shop with many couches and free WiFi, and the staff is always very kind. Whenever I'm in the area I make sure to stop by The Bean; I suggest you do as well.
This location is one of the best in the East Village. It's comfy and bright and has great wifi and the best coffee and treats. I am a big fan of the reese's frozen coffee (Frozen Mother T) though the Mona Lisa is also 10/10.
Amazing food + service! Can't believe I've lived around the corner for so long and only tried their coffee until today. Had the grip bowl and no sugar added mocha frozen latte. Seriously amazing. Super friendly staff as well

The wifi expires every 15 minutes, so you’d need to buy something new every 15 minutes to actually us the wifi. Otherwise it’s a fine space with decent coffee. It’d be good for reading or chatting with a friend.
if a place can't even get the regular coffee right, what hope is there for the more sophisticated drinks? perhaps they just drown the burnt flavor in lots of steamed milk. place is overrun with loitering people.
The manager is inconsiderate - it’s way too hot inside! Was sweating profusely, my entire visit was ruined by the incendiary conditions. Baristas are skilled and kind but I couldn’t focus on that with the HEAT

Really cool place! Very interesting and uniquely designed! Great customer service! You feel taken care of, when they help you! In addition, they have great coffee and a wide selection of drinks to choose from!
The environment is enjoyable and conducive to work/studying, if you can find a place to sit. The coffee is not the greatest. My americano was watered down. I'll come back to study, but I'll have tea.
Love this cosy working spot. Som.etimez the music is too loud, but it's part of the atmosphere. Yes, the chai lattes are amazing. Oh, and one of the only coffee spots with baristas who aren't snobs.
Usually good but the iced matcha is poorly made. I ordered a large with whole milk and the matcha was not properly mixed resulting in a grainy texture. Won't be ordering this again, unfortunately.

Employee gave me the "back off" for staying for four hours on my second visit. I was working on my laptop. Half the tables were empty. No receipt, but they knew how long I'd been there? Creeps
I live next door to this coffee shop and I love it. They have a great atmosphere to work and the staff is extremely friendly. I've had their hot tea and their bagel and both were really good!

I have to be honest. It’s a Nice spot but the latte I got and matcha were so bland. No flavor. Good service drinks I’ve ordered taste like warm milk. But smoothie bowls are definitely lit.
The bean needs to be more consistent with their bagels. Delicious when fresh, but sometimes not. Also, the cream cheese quantity is totally random! Almost never enough. Please help!!!
Coffee is really good. Diversity of selection of pastries and eats and the best smoothie and bowl selection! Macaroons too!! Awesome baristas. Bathrooms and tables could be cleaner.
Love the Bean! Super chilled and laptop-friendly (free, fast and reliable Wifi!) The Bean has tasty coffees, bagels, smoothies, and the staff are always attentive and very friendly.
Everyone who works here has always been extremely helpful and nice! They’re good, hard workers. Especially the closers and openers. People need to be nicer to these hard workers
The stuff just don't care about the customer / the place they work... the place can be Cleaner. The stuff more care about looking in to there phone ( mostly the cashier ).
favourite cafe in nyc, bring everyone I know here. Manager is so nice and friendly and all the staff are lovely! Food is great, drinks are great, perfect for studying :)
Decent coffeeshop with some good natural light for you to work in. Not sure who supplies their beans but its not a gourmet location. Just average ok cuppa for your day.
If you wanna have some quiet study time, don’t go there on Tuesday at 6pm... They have this trashy stand up comedy show every Tuesday night which is pretty annoying...

The Bean has great coffee and super friendly staff. It can be difficult to find a table if you're looking to hang out, but it's excellent for a morning cuppa.
Coffee was good. But my husband found a metal something at the bottom of his coffee (after he drank the whole thing...) and was only offered another coffee...
Been coming here for years. "Doctor is in" is the best tea. Sometimes it gets too hot inside, like today, so I took my tea and sat down on the bench outside.
Great place to charge your phone, laptop, do some studying, get a 3$ coffee and use the restroom. It's relatively quiet and the staff are extremely friendly.

I visit this cafe everytime I'm in the area in New York! It has some great healthy options, although a bit overpriced. Worth it for a quick pick up.
Good little coffee shop, comfy place to hang about if you've got a laptop or just to chill with a group. Wee bit expensive on the pastries, though.
