Nice second-hand bookstore packed with lots of books in English, both older and newer titles. There are several fiction shelves (my favorite). To be honest I was expecting a few books to be cheaper than they actually were, but after visiting other bookstores in Amsterdam I have noticed that these are normal prices here. Also, seeing as most books are in perfectly fine condition it makes sense. (I noticed that sometimes you find a title twice, and if one book is in slightly "worse" condition it happens that it is 50 cents cheaper. Seems fair.) Like anywhere in Amsterdam you can pay by card. I bought four books here and am happy. Would definitely come back.

The Book Exchange, Europe's largest used English bookshop, is a hidden gem. It boasts a diverse collection of books in great condition, spanning various genres. The cozy atmosphere and labyrinthine cellars full of books create a delightful experience. Prices are transparent and more budget-friendly than new bookstores. I give it 3 stars because one of the books I bought here priced 8€ higher than on Amazon, even though it's the same edition and binding. Supporting physical bookstores is important, but when buying used, I expected lower prices. It might have been my luck, so you may still find appealing books at reasonable prices.

A really lovely second hand bookstore with a large literature collection. I found english titles here that arent carried in the usual Dutch bookstores. The 2 staff members were really lovely and I loved the 'blind book' setup they had. Each book was wrapped beautifully and the handwritten descriptions were very cute. I also brought in a few books to trade in for store credit. The pricing felt quite arbitrary - I wonder if theres a system for pricing the books/quality of books that we bring in? Nonetheless, I was just happy to use my store credits to get some new reads. Will be back soon!

I happened to pass by this shop and accidentally walked in absolutely not realising it was a bookshop. This is what second hand bookshops should look like. Just tons of books stacked so high you start feeling dizzy. I reckon the building is as old as some of its books. The only thing this place is missing is a cat. It could do with a cat. It is still a great place without one, but a cat would be like a rug that ties the room together.

Adorable shop of second hand books with extremely huge collections of literature with a particular propensity to English language. The place inside is way bigger than it might seem from outside and the range of books varies between every genre and subject. If not to buy books I recommend visiting this place just for the experience of exploring the various rooms hidden deep into the building and to witness the smell of ancient paper.

This was an experience. A small tucked away book store with tiny staircases and cellars filled to the roof with books - that's the dream. With "book blind dates" to grab and a HUGE, and I mean huge, availability. The guy at the front was funny and nice and you could feel that all visitors at the time were quite enjoying the time in there, just as I did! (btw. there is a nice little coffeeshop right next door)

Probably the best second-hand book store for english books in the Netherlands. Whenever I come here I find it difficult to not leave weighed down with my bag filled to the brim with books. I especially like scifi, and there's a huge selection. It is a little bit pricier than regular second hand stores (~5 euros per book), but you're so much more likely to find something you actually want to read.

This is an amazing book store full of used English books. The atmosphere of it alone is worth a visit and the prices are fair. The selection is vast, with titles new and old. However, I wouldn't go in for looking for a specific book, unless it's a very classic book. The genres included fiction, music sport, YA, poetry, plays, crime and more. One of the coolest book stores I've ever seen!

What a gorgeous find for book lovers! Glad to see it had a lot of customers. Friendly guy behind the counter helped me with my query. A great selection of books and of good quality. I felt the prices were reasonable. The space is a little cramped (you need to watch your head if going to the basement). This was part of the charm imo but good to mention. Definitely not wheelchair friendly.

The gentlemen in the front Is Extremely rude and knows nothing about customer service. He told me to go away because he didn't want me to come on a saturday at 4pm and sell my books, because that day Is supposedly very busy, while there were only 2 other people there. Overall, i Just Wish that he knew how to speak and behave with people Who try to bring him new books to sell.

I came back to the shop last week after 3 years of pause. I enjoyed as always every minute of the visit. It is always a pleasure to browse the several floors the shop has and discover some hidden gems. Prices are very reasonable. The owner is always very helpful and nice to chat with. It is always my first option to buy books in Amsterdam. Hopefully I can come back soon.

I mainly go here to resell my books and the prices they offer are trash. I sold 4 books and they offered me 8,50 cash. I can't even buy a new book for that price! They do offer a bit more for in store credit but they rarely ever have the books I'm looking for as they mostly stock older books. If you love that old book smell it's a great shop to get lost in.

What a cosy place! The prices are great, their selection is huge, and their staff still knows exactly what books they have. I've looked for specific books and they've helped me find them, they're really helpful. Can most definitely recommend it to any book lover who might be interested in one of the more personal book stores in Amsterdam!

This is paradise on earth for any book lover. There's a huge second-hand collection of books in every single section, and the sci-fi and fantasy section is my favourite. In this bookstore you can find old gems, new releases, box sets, paperbacks, hardcovers, and much more. And the owner is always so nice to chat with!

Amazing shop, nice prices and books, they have some wear and tear (as is expected) but not as much as I usually see in second hand book shops. Furthermore is everything pretty organised and there is a great atmosphere! I will most definitely return and recommend this great cozy shop to my fellow book loving friends!!

I was a bit overwhelmed by the sight of books stacked up to the ceiling. The extensive collection spans across various genres - you just gotta take time to browse through them all. The books available are in used condition rather than being somewhere close to new, and the prices are fair but not the best bargain.

THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. I've bought my new favourite book there for only 3 euros. The selection is huge from all genres. There are also books in German and French apart from English. On the more expensive side there are some beautiful editions. There are also packed surprise books with only a couple descriptions.

My best friend and me spent at least an hour in there - there are sooo many books over so many floors, we couldn't decide what to get. We settled for surprise books (see picture) and both got neat books we hadn't read yet, really happy with them! We had a great time and will be coming back. :)

My favourite bookstore in Amsterdam. It's a lovely mix of chaotic and structured. The staff is very friendly and helpful too. The store is only a short walk removed from city highlights, university and Rokin metro station. Price are fair with regards to age and condition of the books.

Één van de leukste plaatsen die ik bezocht tijdens mij bezoek aan Amsterdam! Enorm ruim assortiment, super authentiek en ongelofelijk vriendelijk personeel. Het is echt een aanrader de tijd te nemen om te verdwalen tussen de reusachtige boekenrekken.

Great location! So many to choose. Conditions range from really old to new and pristine. Some lovely rare books in all sorts of languages. Needs clearer section labels but eventually I found what I was looking for! Would reccomend!

I go here every now and then and always leave with one or two books. It’s such a cute and cozy place to walk around and look at all the books. There is no place in Amsterdam more quiet and calm than this store!
