After arriving at The Drug Store, I was directed into the small, vividly lit room behind the counter and sat down to stare at the row of mannequin faces that decorated the table counter. There is no set tables at The Drug Store, which I don't have an issue with myself, but anyone who's afraid of getting a bit squishy should be wary. The small space in the venue is reflected on the menu, with only 3 toasted sandwiches available for my visit. No problem - as long as they're a banging toastie. The one I ordered may very well have been, but I didn't get a chance to find out as they had run out of the 'quesidilla' - how can a cafe with only 3 items on its menu run out of one before the Sunday rush? Being relegated to the ham and cheese toastie, I was looking forward to my coffee. The Flat White came out oversteamed, with a bad texture and almost burnt milk. Not off to a good start. The 'free range' ham and cheese toastie that followed up was almost as disappointing. About as pedestrian as you can get, with no relish or anything to give it a reason for existing at its $9 price point. Price points are obviously not this cafés strong point, as the owner(?) overcharged my bill to the tune of $6, thankfully the best experience I had on the day was how the barista dealt with it, a quick refund.

The stony faced Sunday morning staff member taking orders doesn't seem make saying please or thank you a priority when taking orders. She also doesn't seem to think there is anything wrong with saying "oh" and turning back to what she was doing after getting your order wrong. I'm also getting tired of the owner deciding she's got something better to do and going off to do it, leaving you standing there wondering what's happening. Or she decides that the locals can just walk to the front of the queue like the entitled champagne socialists around here and serves them, leaving you waiting again. I'm a local too, so I guess I don't fit their criteria.

Have been to a number of coffee shops in Summer Hill. Would have to say that this one is at the top of my favourite list. Nice coffee (Campos Dark City)and mainly toasted sandwiches (eg peanut butter) and a few pastries (which I thought were dry and disappointing). Unusual decorations such as a bowl of plastic baby heads on a table or a row for dummy heads?!

If you’re in need of a delicious Campos coffee and a warm smile then The Drug Store cafe is where you need to head. Vivian & her staff are amazing greeting punters from 5am, 365 days a year. Vivian is a vital part of the village from her PIF coffee to fundraising for locals in need. Vivian & The Drug Store have become a Summer Hill institution.

This is one of the best coffee shops in Sydney. Vivian and her team are friendly and nice. They’ll make a coffee again if it not to your taste. The seating is around a large dinning table and one sits around it with strangers, sometimes leading to unexpected conversations.

Drugstore, Vivian and her team are a Summer Hill institution. Open before sunrise every day of the week, with delicious coffee, friendly service and quirky decor, you can't go wrong. Their support for the local community and those most in need is much appreciated.

One of the best coffees in Summer Hill. I drink long blacks and they do a great one here. The shop has quirky interiors and definitely worth a visit if you’re in the suburb. Just be mindful of their hours, they do not open as long as the other shops in the area.

Best coffee in the inner west! Never a let down and lovely family vibe. Interiors are a statement, if you don't have a sense of humour/just have a stick up your arse - don't sit inside. Otherwise- we love the Drug Store!

  • Mr Fox

Coffee is great but don’t bother texting your coffee order to avoid the queue I regularly txt mine and it’s not unusual to get there and everyone waiting is served first and whilst I wait up to and more than 10 mins.

The best coffee in Summer Hill. The owners are so friendly and support the Summer Hill community in more ways other than serving up great service and campos to kick off your day.

  • Greg Weaver

Good coffee, but I mainly come here for the great price on Campos beans. Dark City variety only, but I like this type for drip filter coffee brewed at home.

  • Lisa Casey

Great coffee, friendly staff and delicious cronuts. Everyone seems to be doing cronuts these days but these are up there with the best. Well worth a visit.

Very hipster cafe that is facing the sun in the morning. Buy a coffee and stand outside and enjoy it under the sun.

Fresh Campos coffee nicely made. Friendly staffs and the store is decorated in retro style (if not a bit strange.)
