"It was quite difficult to find the museum"
"Located in the "cube" adjacent to Rivergate Towers (the round building) is the location site"
"Although it had beautiful pieces of art, I wish I would have seen more work from locals and I would've liked to have seen some pictures in the hall gallery blown up"
"The building looks modern and clean but once inside you quickly realize it's a facade"
It was my first experience at this wonderful smaller museum (to my surprise). It is clean and organized but does not offer a inhouse museum store for purchasing items it does however have a small wall counter with a few items for purchasing. I wanted some socks that were on sale but not available in my size. I also wanted a magnet for the refrigerator but they had none. The museum is setup on two floors and included a mixture of photos and canvas but mainly photos taken by several artist spanning decades. I enjoyed them all! The desk hostess was plensent and answered all my questions. If you have a SNAP or EBT card entry if FREE! Parking on the street is sparatic but available. I paid $3 for 2hrs. They also have a an underground parking location at the museum. I chose to park on the street two blocks away. It was a pretty day and I wanted to stretch my legs. I will visit again in the future. They were closed on Sunday but they do have a small coffee and snack cafe onsite in a lovely setting with seating on the first floor. Try them out for something different in a museum experience. Happy viewing!
It was quite difficult to find the museum. It's set inside of a big building that has a bistro and an office on the first floor with no real directions so it's not obvious exactly where the museum is from the outside, but it's on the second floor. Things I liked: The member photography section. It was actually kind of interesting. Though the gallery was small Things I didn't: The official galleries at the time I visited felt a little out of place. Although the gallery on gender expression was interesting and I'd recommend if you wanted to see a gender exploration through photos, the other gallery felt like a behind the scenes reel from a show I'd never seen before. Some of the photos were nice, but it was just behind the scenes photos from a show. The combination felt odd to me.

Located in the "cube" adjacent to Rivergate Towers (the round building) is the location site. It's worth the stop, if you might be facing some inclement weather and want to occupy some spare time. I would categorize this museum as "filler time", in other words, it would not be what draws me to area but would supplement my experience. If you are looking for a large collection of photographs with plenty of variety , this is NOT the place. Entry fee is average to high. The interior floor space is well designed with plenty of natural light entering the structure. They have a permanent exhibit and also periodic rotating exhibits so definitely check their website to see if the current featured exhibit is something intriguing.
Although it had beautiful pieces of art, I wish I would have seen more work from locals and I would've liked to have seen some pictures in the hall gallery blown up. Also, I understand gender exploration is interesting to some people, but I'm not sure it's a large amount so as to give it the emphasis it had. I had to catch my children before they went in and saw some nudity. It would be nice to be warned... And just as much as I respect and like Native Americans, I wish I could've seen more insightful pictures. It did have several pictures that show you a bit of their day-to-day, though. Could you include some high schoolers' work? The museum could be an outlet for the community. I didn't get that feel.
The building looks modern and clean but once inside you quickly realize it's a facade. The lobby area of the museum was kinda dirty. The galleries were small, cramped, warm. The quality of the photography and quality of prints and hangings sub-par. Even the signs for the photography were poorly cut, incomplete, and lacking vital information. The highlight of this museum was the Bruce Dale exhibit. His photos were impressive. Everything else was not. There are more impressive and better displayed stock photos at doctor's offices. The museum needs more attention to detail and someone in charge that cares about quality and museum experiences as much as they think they do about photography.
I had looked at other reviews in advance so I was not surprised by its smaller size. It actually ended up being larger than I expected because of that. I felt the price of admission is fair. We saw the Paul Caponigro and The Company We Keep exhibitions as well as the local section and the Community Animal Show and enjoyed them very much. It was nice having somewhere dedicated to photography, would love for them to have more space to showcase more styles of photography and artists. Parking in the underground garage was fine, although a little confusing at first to find for a tourist. The staff was friendly and informative.

The Florida Museum of Photographic arts is a experience you're going to enjoy if you ever decide to visit. I had the pleasure to visit this museum along with others on national museum day! I've got to say this exhibit delivers a great experience. The photography you will see, will be some of the best quality and inspiring photos. The staff is friendly and the architecture surrounding the exhibit is a experience within itself. As a real estate professional I try my best to keep up to date with all of the best spots to recommend to those new to the city. Make sure you go and bring the family, They will surely be happy you did
I wanted to like it! I appreciate the value our museums bring to the city. This museum is plagued by its extremely small venue and lack of descriptions on pieces and art movements. With less than 2 dozen pieces at any time you aren't left with a good impression of an artists or art history and their impact on it. Instead it feels more like seeing blown up National Geographic pictures. I think the passion for art is there, and Tampa has the desire for a photographic art museum. Perhaps in a larger space with emphasis on photographic art history, education, and creativity the museum could really flourish.
I was so excited to visit the so called "Museum of Photographic Arts" because I was hoping to see and learn a little bit more about Photographic Arts! As a lover of photography I was very disappointed with my visit. The poor selection and display of the images was rather sad. The Photographs were basically hung in three short hallways which they had a nerve to call a "Museum of Photographic Arts" and charge an entry fee! Save yourselves time and money and take your family to a real museum! As for photographs, you can see better photos on Flickr.
Ive been meaning to stop by the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts for a couple of years now. I just had never made time. The ladies running the front desk were nice. I was not impressed by their exhibits, and the layout of the museum is not the best, but I love that we have a museum in Tampa dedicated to photography. I just wish it was better. Despite my current 3-star rating, I will be back and reserve the right to update my rating in the future. FWIW, the museum is located in a great part of downtown.
This "museum" is an absolute joke, and I'm not laughing. There were cubicles right in the center of the exhibit, a very small amount of photographs to be accounted for, and absolutely no theme at all. I learned nothing about the history of photography, and I can see now why they ask for a donation, rather than a set admission. To be completely honest, if they had asked for the donation at the end rather than the beginning, I wouldn't have given them a cent. Such an odd place.
Not worthy of visit… remember to use the coupon for two dollars off. The coupon said 2 dollars off for each person, but we only get 2 dollars off for total... Also.... I do not understand why build this kind of building? Big empty space with huge elevators, and there are only very small space for each floor...... So wasteful... So U.S.......

Other than the Susan Camp Crosby display the Museum was underwhelming. Most of the pieces seem amateurish (especially the Members gallery). I am by no means an expert in photography, so I don’t judge the technical qualities of the work. I’m only stating that the photograph lacked character, interest, and imagination. Very disappointed!

Make sure you know what exhibits are on before you go. We did not enjoy it because one exhibit was super weird and beyond not what I expected. The other one was about a Civil Rights guy and although I didn't find the photographs to be anything special, it was at least relevant and interesting. I thought these would be Florida photographers and their works, I was wrong. It has a great location and the building is kinda cool. Get a groupon!
My experience here was one of the best while in Tampa. I am an avid photographer and love documenting trips and where I visit. This tour was free and we got an entire tour of the museum by our wonderful tour guide. We got to visit during the day and we were practically the only ones on the tour. 10/10 would recommend!

This museum is very nice and intimate. The people at the front desk are very friendly and welcoming. The galleries are interesting in design and the work that they show is also interesting. I'm not extremely knowledgeable about photography or photographers, so I like that they show artists with which I'm not familiar. They open a door for me to want to explore and find out more about the artists and other artists like them.
This is hardly a museum of photographic arts, or museum of anything. It is a gallery featuring photos, of historical significance at best but not a museum. The featured exhibit I saw was unimpressive and uninformative. My experience was very disappointing and I do not recommend visiting this facility. I really expected a museum with exhibits which described the history of photography. There is nothing at all like that here.
My wife and I are both into photography so we appreciated the art and took our time. That said it only took about an hour to see everything. There are 2 dead end wings. Maybe 50 to 60 photos? If you're in the Curtis Park area it's nice to come inside for a look around the lobby, which is very nice.

I actually had gone to an African Pop Up [Besida] here and it was very nice. The venue is in view of downtown and the water. The inside is very nice and myself and other women were able to view and purchase beautiful, handmade garments from Nigeria. I am looking forward to returning in September for more of Besida African garments. They are made of high-quality, breathable fabric, fit for everyday and special wear.
very friendly , knowledgeable staff .. great photos on display ..just wish it was a little bigger display of them.... they fid however have an amazing display of photos from the Vietnam War... very graphic and heart breaking..but very interesting! highly recommend before it goes away!!

The museum is a small but terrific venue for displaying photography as art. It apparently did not satisfy others but I would defy them to find ten photographs in an exhibit within 500 miles of Tampa to equal the brilliance of the photos of the great Iranian photographer Gohar Dashti that are currently on exhibit here. Tampa is blessed to have this opportunity. Congratulations on a fantastic exhibit.
I love coming for the classes and informative panels. I just recently completed the portfolio review with David, Pierre, and Brian who guided me through conceptualizing my work and my artist statement as well as formatting my photo pieces into a cohesive structure. Thank you! Glad to be a student member to FMOPA, I live in Spring Hill, FL and love that there is a community in Tampa I can work with.
This museum is wonderful! While it is a little tricky trying to figure out how to go to it just go up the escalator and elevators and someone will help you. The staff is absolutely amazing and they have wonderful programs and the artist come and talk about their work. There were some amazing pieces I saw and they always have returning exhibits and different exhibits every time so I will be back!
I love this place. The galleries on this trip beautifully captured families, New Orleans culture, and desert water. I love both the beauty of the photographs and how some of them capture the culture and personality of a time and place. The gallery consisted of four exhibits which took about an hour to see. One thing I love about this place is the exhibits are different every time I go.
Seems like a waste of time. Exhibits are small and there is little information about what you are seeing. It seems more like a small gallery than a museum. $20 for us to get in was steep for what we saw. It is a spectacular building but the facility and staff are significantly lacking. The Tampa Museum of Art right across the park was so much better. Very disappointed. Will not be back.
Love the work on display and reasonably priced for a small museum. It was hard to navigate where to park, where to exit the parking lot for the museum, and where to enter since there’s no signage on the outside doors to indicate where to enter.

Had an amazing time here with the ladies, Something I would love to do again learned a lot of interesting facts and history on many things while there. they have a beautiful little gift shop downstairs and Cafe. The view from the upstairs balcony is beautiful as well. One of the tours have fun little games that involve interactive exhibits. Pretty cool place
The FMoPA is a great experience to visit. The price was fair, and the woman at the desk, Simone, was very kind and helpful! The exhibits were informational and well-installed and the photographs were incredible. Bathrooms were clean too.

I love this museum. I wish there were more to offer... When you walk in- I expected to see walls of art lined up. But instead, you know a fact sitting area, with a coffee place and elevators. Then you go to the second floor and boom; there are a desk and a small office. The exhibitions are beautiful and it laid out nicely. Just, I wish there was more.
Enjoy exploring the many interesting exhibit s in the galleries had an awesome experience looking at the different sculpture pieces as well as different etchings I came across. You will definitely leave with a muse in your heart and inspiration in your mind.

One floor museum, Two exhibits, and a hallway with local and imported artists. Took us about an hour to walk around and look at each piece. Cost was $10 per person which is reasonable, not including parking at a local parking garage. Good way to spend some time in downtown Tampa if you enjoy art and photography on a budget.
This is a beautiful place for a photography museum, and I enjoyed the three exhibitions. One exhibit of local artists was surprisingly good. The two curated exhibits were both thoughtful and well displayed. The photographs were modern and stimulating. I would recommend to anyone interested in current photography.
I submitted for the 10th Annual Competition and didn't even receive a rejection email. I can't argue with the quality of winners shown on the website, but would like to see the whole body of works selected and know how the show was juried. I can find no way on the website to communicate directly to the Museum.
Cool photography museum. Free on last Friday of every month. Museum is supposed to be free but "donations" are demanded. Not really worth the $10 donation as it is very short but it is bigger than the Tampa museum of art by Curtis Hixon Park. They filmed the punisher and Edward scissor hands here!
Very pretty building, really nice lady at the service desk. I was expecting more, there were one and a half galleries open. It did not take very long to go through the whole thing which was slightly disappointing. The photographs were nice but it would have been nice to have more to look at.
Had a great time during an hour-long visit with my girlfriend. I wouldn't say that I know too much about photography, but I could definitely appreciate the small group of galleries that they have. It's a fairly small place with basic gallery rooms, but it's great for the amateur enthusiast.
This was my first time visiting this museum . I came to see the Langston Hughes collection . I was very satisfied with my experience there because the museum has a little bit of everything. They also showcase photographs from local artist as well as extrinsic artist as Roger Ballen (1950)
Had no idea this museum existed and have lived in Tampa for 20 plus years. Cool place to discover and their exhibits change often. Quick and cheap to explore downtown.

Smaller than expected and very hard to find in the office building it’s in. The man who checked us in was very friendly and courteous. I preferred the photos on the 3rd level more than the ones on the 2nd level. Cool concept to be able to buy some photos of the wall in the first section.
This is a smaller gallery but very nice. You'll be introduced to the gallery with an explanation of the work being displayed. This is a very nice addition to Ybor.

The opening exhibit at their new location in Ybor City is fantastic. Icons of black and white photography - among many works in familiar with, I greatly enjoyed learning new ones such as Lewis Hine. Highly recommend this art exhibit to enjoy photography greats close to home.
If you love photography hey, history, beautiful works of art. This is the place for you. The building has sweepingly beautiful spaces coupled with awesome intimate spaces that are well-lit and positioned for viewing the artwork. I highly recommend checking out this museum.
This was a disappointment. The Bruce Davidson exhibit was provoking and satisfying, HOWEVER, when we arrived, we were informed that the 3rd floor of the museum was closed. We should have been told of this on the website when buying tickets. In and out in about 15 minutes.
Very small not worth the price of admission . The front desk lady is friendly. They do not validate parking before 5pm even though they close at 7pm . So it cost me $9 for parking

Eh. That about sums it up. Not really our style. Very small for the price and most of the works looked more like photo-chopped paintings than actual photographs. If you enjoyed the Dali museum, you'd enjoy this, because they're along the same style.
A true hidden gem to hold an event! Not only is it a cool place to visit and learn history and see some awesome artwork, so much unique space to host an event. The event space is great for an open air concept and the staff is super! Great location!
This was a great museum experience, especially since I do photography in my spare time. Please visit and support the artists.

Disappointed in the small size of the museum. There were three exhibits today and they were very interesting, however was very disappointed to find there is no permanent exhibit of local photographers. Somewhat pricey for the size of the museum.
Hard to find gallery, tucked away on the second floor of an office building. Run by a not-for-profit organization and I'm sure they have to do they have to do. They were showcasing a few different photographers was worth the 10 bucks to get in.
Interesting venue with well-curated exhibitions. Gallery is on 2 floors which makes it a bit choppy, as opposed to being on one floor, but it works, in some ways because of the beautiful building and breathtaking lobby it is located in.
New place new space and better exhibit set up. I’m hoping to see frequent changing and interesting photography.

WASTE OF MONEY & TIME!!! Very very small exhibit and really poor choice in the photos. My local coffee shop displays local artists work which were more numerous and interesting that's FREE with my coffee!!
Had three exhibits that are self guided. Enjoyed one of the exhibits the most. Wish one exhibit had left out politics in its description but otherwise good place to visit. Staff was very helpful to us.
It’s in a cool building and the desk staff was very nice, but this was a total disappointment. There was almost no art on display, and what was on display was largely, well, bad art. Don’t go here.
Awesome museum... Great exhibits from the 1960s and 1970s... Very helpful and friendly staff... Facilities were clean and well organized... Nice place to spend an hour or so with the family...
Pleasant artsy metropolitan ambience, but the collection is small. If you don't have much time, but want an hour of something people call art these days in your life, definitely go.
Just a few exhibits showing a few photographers work....it might take you a good 45 minutes to an 1 hour to view all...it's just something different to do. Wish they had gift shop.
This was such a waste of time y'all like I couldn't stop laughing from how sorry it was. Like it looks all grand here but it's two floors of like three room exhibits. It's SO small
It was 8 dollars I think (military and student discount) otherwise it's 12 (?) Two storeys of photography. Some are very good...others are very interesting. (Eye of the beholder).
Really neat place to visit. If you are of the age where you rode these antiques it brings back fond memories. If you are young it is fun to ride back in history. Great for kids.
Well worth a visit. Some extremely Iconic photography.

Loved the Griff exhibition. Would like to have a print of the auspicious photos of Langston Hughes and especially the photo of Mr and Mrs Martin Luther King in Ghana, 1957.
I was very pleased with my first visit and the thought provoking and varied exhibits. Finding the entrance to the building was a bit trying. Consider some signage .. thx.
Really enjoyed this museum! There were 4 exhibitions, each very unique and interesting. I really enjoyed Noelle Mason's exhibit. The staff were helpful and welcoming.
Great experience, I went to a 70's fundraiser party there for The Tampa Bay Theatre Festival held by Rory & Kahlila Lawrence. Great food & music. Loved the museum
Being here was Amazing! I went to see the pictures and they were so cool! I also went to the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, And it was fun! 10/10 would go again
Very beautiful and clean inside, a friend of mine rented a floor and it was spacy with a dance floor. They have both valet and regular parking in the back.

Decent exhibit, some of the art didn't seem like it was photography related and I wish it had more to see. But a $10 cover isn't bad for what they offer
Their permanent selection is small but they have great exhibits that come into town. They also have some great community events for local photographers.
Extremely over priced! Unbelievably hot as if they purposely turned off the airconditoner Never would I recommend for a tiny gathering♨️ …
A lot smaller than the building suggests. There were three collections when I went. The content was good, but we were done in well under an hour.
I go to this museum everytime there is a new exhibit, so far I had never been disappointed, all of them had been beautiful. Highly recommended.
My wife and I enjoyed our time here. Very relaxing and serene which is exactly what I wanted. It took us about 90 minutes to complete our tour.

I love this Museum. Excellent curators, perfect size for a drop-in experience. So happy to have a museum dedicated to photographic arts.
Amazing exhibitions, every show was stellar, small so it's not a all day museum, it gets straight to the point, staff was very friendly
Amazing Photos!! Exquisite. Much smaller than I anticipated. Staff very knowledgeable and friendly. The X-Ray exhibit was incredible.
I wonder what the 3, 4 and 5 star reviews have seen what I have missed? Really, a museum and this entrance price? A complete Joke!
Great little spot to see amazing photography. The main issue is the size, as others have stated. Just be prepared that it is tiny!
What a wonderful place to visit if you love photography. The lobby is beautiful and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
Very small. Some really cool pics and some very lame ones. Overpriced. We took our time to see everything and it took 30-40 min
Interesting galleries, but overall not very much to see. Flew through it in about 2 hours. $8 for stidents and $10 for adults.
Do not waste $1 on this place.Very small unimpressive exibit. The two women working there knew nothing about photography.
The museum was very hard to find. There was not a sign on the door. I just started pulling doors open to find it. More
We had a great time checking out the exhibits and the space. We will definitely visit again when the exhibits rotate.
Small gallery but the photos are deep and thought provoking. Great place to spend an hour or two in downtown Tampa.
We rented this venue for a graduation party. I recommend FMoPA for a rental facility anytime. Beautiful location.
The museum is small , the galleries are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The staff is very friendly and helpful (:
Please don’t waste your time and $10. This place is dead, the space is disorganized and needs a renovation.
Enjoyed this Museum very much not only the photography but also the design of the building inside and out.
What a lovely museum, very aesthetic and peaceful. Well put together shows. Definitely a place to see!
An incredibly intimate museum with a lovely staff, and revolving exhibits that cater to many tastes!
