The Greengate Hotel in Gordon, NSW, offers an average experience that has potential for improvement. While the location is convenient and the staff members are friendly, there are certain aspects that fell short of expectations. The hotel's exterior has a charming and traditional appeal, creating a cozy atmosphere. However, the rooms themselves feel dated, with decor and furnishings showing signs of wear and tear. Updating the rooms to enhance comfort and aesthetics would greatly enhance the guest experience. Cleanliness also needs improvement, as there were noticeable instances of dust and stains. Amenities at the hotel are limited, lacking a gym or pool on-site. Expanding the range of facilities would provide guests with more options for relaxation and recreation. The dining experience was satisfactory but didn't reach exceptional standards. While the menu offered a decent selection, the quality and presentation of the dishes were average. In summary, The Greengate Hotel in Gordon, NSW, provides an average experience with room for improvement. The staff is friendly, and the location is convenient. However, the dated rooms, cleanliness issues, limited amenities, and average dining experience prevent the hotel from standing out. By renovating the rooms, improving cleanliness measures, and enhancing amenities, The Greengate Hotel has the potential to elevate its guest experience and receive a higher rating.

I went there for dinner tonight and was sadly very disappointed. The exterior and interior are so so beautiful but the staff and food really need to step up there game! First of all the staff were rude. I forgot my license so I couldn’t show ID, even though all I was doing was sitting down having a glass of wine and some dinner inside with my partner and his parents apparently that wasn’t good enough. I showed a photo as proof and that wasn’t good enough, my Medicare, my myGov. I was suggested to try the NSW service app or the VIC equivalent (having a Victorian licence) and our app doesn’t even offer ID verification.. it’s still in testing. So that wasn’t even an option. They could OBVIOUSLY tell I was over age they just wanted to be difficult. The manager seemed annoyed at me that I was trying to problem solve this. The staff also forgot our drinks twice and we had to get up from our table to remind them, and the food was very ordinary. There’s much nicer places around where people will be much kinder and food tastier !! Best of luck.
I am absolutely disgusted in the poor management and quality of food and inexperienced staff. I ordered a steak medium rare and after 55 minutes it finally arrived and to my shock it was burnt to a crisp. My car tyre is softer to eat. The way they handled it was appalling. I showed them and they said sorry about that, it’s gonna be another 50 min wait or we can give you your money back What a joke your attitude is disgusting your meals are disgusting and you don’t even have staff to cook correctly and not making my steak a priority just shows the true management style you offer. You are a joke do not eat here at all you are going to get ripped off and very disappointed I’ll never ever come back and will let everyone I know to do the same.
This is a local hotel, one of the few places you can find food in Killara. There are $15 deals on most weekdays, including pizza on Monday, chicken parmigiana on Tuesday and Taco on Wednesday. I have tried both the pizza and parmigiana and they are both very tasty! I particularly like the salad from parmigiana. They are definitely great deal. They also have cool sparkling water you can self serve which is really nice, a very good reason for a visit too! There are also two sections in the hotel. If you order in the inner section, they will serve you rather than you need to pick up, which is also kind of nice too. There are also band that comes to play at times which is definitely a plus. Their main meals are slightly pricey though.
Think twice before ordering food. As a long time regular and someone who loves the venue, I’ve noticed the quality of the food has been on the decline for a while. I’m not sure what is happening in the kitchen but the last meal I ordered (fish and chips) was particularly disappointing. There was a minuscule amount of fish served that had more batter than fish. The salad included was also very ordinary, undressed and reminding me of what is usually served in a kids meal. I’ve tried to let the always friendly and attentive bar staff know but this is clearly beyond their control. I almost never bother to write reviews, however the Greengate remains one of my favourite pubs and it’s a shame to see.
This is a great pub. Large multi zone indoor and outdoor divided between smoking and non smoking. The pub seems to attract the right crowd too, as I had my daughter along and she spotted a famous TikToker a few tables away. The pub was busy, so the food service was a bit slower and we had to chase, as we were waiting 40 mins. But the service was friendly, and the girl collecting glasses was super friendly, chatting while she picked up the glasses. We dined outside until it started to rain, and as there was no cover we exited the pub when the rain came. All up not a bad place to stop for a drink or two, and some quality food,.reasonably priced
The atmosphere at the Greengate was great but the food and the service let it down slightly. The person who bought out our food was really snarky. The carrot salad was mostly rocket with a couple of bits of carrot in it and some small dollops of goats curd, it was really disappointing. My friend had the salmon salad and again that was mostly kale, with very little else. I have a table booked with more friends this week and I am really considering changing the booking.

A lovely place to go have a meal with friends and family, normal price for normal formal meals. Good amount of food. Nice services. Just one little extra, they have extra special every week which is more affordable price around15~20 dollars, have a very nice quality food choice. We came on Monday special, which was the pizza choice, they have three flavours we ordered the veggie one. Taste delicious and fulfilled. Their beer and batter chips is also very nice. Nice place to come every now and then. Would love to try others dishes next time.
Lunch service was good for a low key work event. Nice pub with different spaces for different crowds - pool room, outdoor dining and drinking, bistro. Not a fan big of the space between bar and bistro that is often set up for long tables - feels like a thoroughfare and when seated in a line a line along a table not conducive to group interaction. Particularly if you stand and move around to talk to others it feels like you are obstructing doorway for people entering the pub or the thoroughfare of moving from one space to another
Nice venue, but noisy inside. Staff were polite. Our group meeting for a Christmas lunch was disappointed that there was no table service. We were informed on the day this hasn't been the case for some years here. Food was good. Very large portion of chips on the side, which is good or bad depending on your carb intake preferences. I should have asked for a salad with my burger, but I forgot to mention, and wasn't asked for a preference when I ordered at the bar. Not a regular, probably won't be back anytime soon.
The drinks were decent other than they didn't have any Ginger Beer (alcoholic) so I couldn't have my preferred beverage. The roast was poor - dry and tough roast pork; undercooked, hard carrots and roast potatoes. The roasted onion was lovely though. The fish in the battered fish and chips was not worth the $25, I've had better frozen fish from the supermarket. We've tried the Greengate 4 times in the last year hoping that each time it will be better, unfortunately tonight will be our last as it has not improved
We were booked as a table of 6 adults. There was a singer/guitarist; unfortunately, they were turned up to maximum volume (although talented). We couldn't have a conversation at all and no management intervened to ask them to play at background level. There was no host/manager, we found our own booked table, and food was ok (chips terrible). So not an enjoyable Xmas catch up at all and we won't return

Security was TERRIBLE AND RUDE. Simply waved to friend and said hello out the window and then went to go park. Then went to go check in to get stamped (completely sober) and were told to leave immediately by security because we were disrespectful and rude for saying hi to a friend outside. Disgusting behaviour which needs to be fixed and very unhappy customer who has been very loyal over the years.

Another delightful luncheon at our favourite pub. Good service in congenial surroundings. 3 of us had 300g of rump steak with peppercorn sauce, thin chips, salad. The steak was medium rare, cooked to perfection. 1 friend had fish and chips which which was battered and crispy. The servings were perfect. Bravo team!

Very disappointing. Where do I start. Staff not well trained, no smiling faces and had to reminded about how to do their job, e.g. "Would you mind clearing our plates?". The salt and pepper aren't on the table but are at the bar in little packets. The tomato sauce is elsewhere, which was only presented after a request to the server. Again, in packers. McDonald's. Roast pork came with no green veg, was lukewarm and tough. Sad.
Not good place for a quiet beer on Friday night at 7pm young and clearly over intoxicated group smashing glass several times within an hour, in the outdoor area. Security were ignoring it from close by, too busy petting someone's dog, but never approached the group to have a quiet word, settledown. Security and staff clearly find the behaviour acceptable. So not the kind atmosphere I was looking for. Won't be back
We dined last night as a group of four. We had the grilled halloumi, king prawns, calamari and the tomahawk. Everything was absolutely incredible and it was the perfect amount of food for the 4 of us. The tomahawk shared between was very cost effective Thanks guys!

Wonderful pub (well, the word 'pub' is an understatement) and besides its grand appearance, it has history that goes a long way back. Service is impeccable and atmosphere - a touch 1920's sophistication. Food, good pub grub and the kitchen churns it out like clockwork. Will go back there, again and again

Went here to have dinner on Friday night. The underground parking was a plus as you don't have to hassle trying to find a street park. Food was okay, although I think some were overpriced. Like the pork belly was not pleasant to eat without mash/chips or green Veggies which you had to order separately. The parmagiana and salmon salad were nice. Friendly staff. Clean facilities.
Great food, good selection of cold beers and dog friendly (in the outdoor courtyard). Our dog is part of our family and goes everywhere, so for a great pub that ticks off these three boxes and coupled with friendly service gets 5 stars. Oh and plenty of seating too, so room for everyone. Proof that doing a few things and doing them well is a win win. Well done Greengate Hotel.
In a sit down full dining room on a Friday night WHY is the a meat tray raffle so loud tha you need to go outside to think It's a shame there is no more table ordering so maybe get QR codes to order preventing a 10 minute wait at the bar and the lovely waitress miss out on tips

We were here on a Monday night for dinner. The food was good. Service was good. The dining room was freezing!! Everyone had to eat in the big coats and puffer jackets. We overheard a staff member explaining to other customers that complained that they can not shut the higher up louvres. This is a shame, and the heating of the space in winter needs to be sorted.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent set up for watching sport and nice food and cold beer. As a pub goer for many years, I reckon the Greengate is one of the best. Thanks Greengate staff for making my visit a nice experience.

A rainy day lunch made us realise that we missed the opportunity to dine outside here as it looked quite nice. Inside was just as pleasant with multiple options of areas to sit and eat. We opted for the Terrace section. The menu was vast and all dishes we had were fresh and delicious. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would love to head back again one day
Food was very good however the bar staff are very rude and the security guards were trying to size up every bloke walking in. A few easy fixes for management in my opinion and happy to adjust my rating if these issues are looked at.

Bar service was on point but the prices of food a ridiculous for what is delivered to the table. It can only lead people to assume business is struggling $34 for a sirloin, snow pea leaves & shoe string fries is basic and leads me to believe they only hire apprentices if this is how they disrespect customers.
An antique style hotel. The place has a good vibe, great lighting, clean, has good range of craft beers on tap and great food inc the special of the day. It is little pricey but worth it. Thanks to all the friendly staff

Have not been here for sometime but decided to have lunch with friends. Food was very good and surprisingly reasonably priced. Lots of different areas to eat, inside and outside so offers a wonderful selection of quiet or lively surrounds. I will definitely come back again soon. Well worth a visit.
I held a birthday party here with 55 people in the Heritage Room. The room was beautiful, the staff were friendly, the canapes were delicious and the drinks were very reasonably priced. The Events staff are so on the ball and a pleasure to work with. If I could give more stars, I would!
Great pub with lots of sunny beer garden spots out front and at the back. Sports bar along with some quieter spots. Food comes out super fast and great wine list. Chilled atmosphere that is both family and pet friendly. More places like this are needed. Full of character and atmosphere.

I went here to do a taste test, but would like to go one day for a meal. Killara is a beautiful suburb and it's a gorgeous old pub that would be great on a nice summer's day. Pity it's so close to the highway, which means the view isn't great, but the pub itself makes up for that.
- It feels un-Australian to charge $3 to SWAP out fries for mash potato for a chicken Parma dish that’s already $25. - The sandwich to chip ratio on the steak sandwich was disappointing. - The beef salad was also sadly disappointing. The beef was tough and it lacked flavour.
Best rump steak I've ever had. We came on new years eve as a family gathering and I was so impressed by the staff, the food and the atmosphere. If you're in the area and are stuck with deciding where to go in an evening for dinner, this place would be an excellent choice.
It's been close on 20 years between this visit and the just. The pub has lost its old appeal as local and feels more cookie cutter, with TAB located in the same part as main bar. Magherita pizza was as expected - fine. Tacos not recommended. Beer selection not bad. More

Brilliant. Impeccable. Biased review however, as enjoyed a romantic date with my partner on a Monday evening with the place to ourselves. Scallops and eggplant were exquisite. Perfectly matched with Margan Semillon
Clean, pleasant atmosphere, largely on one level. Food was good. Desserts were really good. Service was friendly and efficient. They had live music when we were there which was rather loud but easy listening.
Had the toughest rump steak in my life. Needed a chainsaw to chop it up. Come on Green Gate please put on a decent peace of rump, no chuck please!! Come here often, used to be great not impressed at all.
Got their meal of the day and wahoo, it was amazing. I was happily surprised for a pub. Service was great, the only downside is that it's next to Pacific Highway and I you are outside, it is very noisy.
First time attending the venue, nice setting, staff were great and helpful. Not impressed with the meat raffle though. Bought $15 worth of tickets, they drew 4 tickets and then cancelled the raffle
