The Lobby is a true gem of Edmonton. Are you sick of scrolling through all your streaming subscriptions, paralyzed by choice? Are you looking for something different, obscure, and customized to your taste? More than just a throwback to days of old where video rental stores were a dime a dozen, it is easy to see why The Lobby has stood the test of time. If you are overwhelmed by the sheer amount of options available, DON'T BE! Take the plunge and owner Kevin will give you great recommendations based on exactly what you are into. Extremely reasonable prices and policies (he'll even knock off the price of the rental if you decide to buy a film after renting). But really the most important thing part of the experience is Kevin himself; as soon as I walked in for the first time I felt welcomed, and Kevin eagerness, passion and obvious breadth of knowledge was downright infectious. I could have spent hours chatting with him about 70s supernatural horror movies. Anyone who is a fan of horror, alternative, and cult films is doing themselves a disservice if they pass this place up, and this will surely be a place that I come back to time and time again.

Fantastic shop, even better owner. As far as I'm aware, this is the last remaining movie rental place in the city after Movie Studio shut down. They definitely specialize in horror and less than mainstream films, but I've always managed to find something interesting here. The owner is practically an Edmonton institution in the local film community, and will happily chat with you for hours about everything and anything film related. He's also a great guy as more than once I've returned things late and he's waived the fees as he was more interested in what I thought of the movie(s) than in making extra money. This really is a passion project for him and it shows. I can't recommend this place enough.

Even if DVD rental was at its height of its popularity no other store could compare to the Lobby, which is only more of a testament to how a rental and DVD shop could stay alive in the age of video streaming. This place has the kind of character and charm that only comes through passion and hard work. You won’t be able to find anywhere else that has this level of niche and obscure variety for every hardcore horror fan and cinema lover. With prices that destroy on demand renting and an owner that knows his movies and never misses a recommendation this shop offers an opportunity that movie fans can’t miss. I highly recommend!

I randomly came across this store on my first visit to Edmonton. It is truly a hidden gem. Kevin is one of the nicest guys and easily the most knowledgeable person I’ve ever met when it comes to movies. After taking about movies with him he recommended some amazing gems for me to buy based on my taste (Election, King of New York, Big Trouble in Little China, The 8 Diagram Pole Fighter). I will 100% visit this store every time I come to Edmonton in the future. Not just for the DVDs but for the experience. Thanks Kevin!

The Lobby is my happy place. I am a horror fanatic and I love movies. The depth of information I can get from physical media is unmatched by any streaming service out there. If you like movie talk and trivia, Kevin is your guy! He’s got a memory like Hannibal’s Mind Palace or Jonesy’s Memory Warehouse, and a head full of trivia that rivals IMDB. He will do everything he can to find you what you’re looking for. Atmosphere, movie memorabilia, great deals, great conversation , and the horror…the horror.

Browsing the shelves of a movie store is an experience you will not know how much you missed untill you're standing here. The owner is as friendly and helpful as you could need. Specializing in horror and the occult if its not on their shelves it can be brought in special for you with no trouble. Prices on movies are reasonable and the store is well worth the pilgrimage to Whyte to support a truly local and unique store.

The last video store is more that just a hold out against online streaming. Kevin’s encyclopaedic knowledge of the movie industry makes it worth the rental by itself. Weather it’s fascinating information about an old classics like Salem’s Lot or The Thing. Or takes on modern series from the Avengers to the Conjuring Kevin knows it all. This little dungeon with the old Mortal Kombat arcade game is well worth the visit!

The Lobby is my favourite place to go DVD or Blu ray shopping, I always leave with something interesting to enjoy afterwards. The owner clearly loves the genre of horror, and can tell you at least 10 interesting facts about any movie found in his shop. He is so laid back, and brings a very welcoming atmosphere to his store. Highly recommend checking it out.

As a horror fan and someone who misses going to video stores this store was already the perfect combination The selections are a nice mix of classics as well as obscure stuff which is a really nice variety . Kevin also knows so much about movies and shows so he will always know the perfect fit for you, also a very fun person to talk to.

They had a physical copy of a DVD that I was having a hard time finding anywhere else. When I inquired about the dvd via email he returned the email promptly (within a hour) and was friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
